今天采访到的是来自英国的一支老牌Grindcore/Death Metal乐队Gorerotted，组建于1997年的Gorerotted乐队绝对是最具有影响力的一支英国乐队，也是当时英国最极端的乐队之一，1998年的Demo作品“Her Gash I Did Slash”便吸引了众多歌迷的关注，2000年他们与Dead Again Records厂牌合作发行了第一张正式专辑“Mutilated in Minutes”，这张专辑发行之后收到了更多和其他国家的歌迷关注，随后乐队也得到了美国著名厂牌Metal Blade Records的关注并且签约到自己厂牌，发行了2003 - 2005年的两张经典专辑，Gorerotted乐队最标志性的绝对是他们尖叫部分，与Ben的演唱配合绝对令人感到恶心，病态，给人一种非常恐怖的感觉，Gorerotted乐队不仅仅体现出演唱部分的特点，他们的编曲也是非常的出众，而且贝斯的部分非常突出，鼓手的表现也是非常的出众，随着时间的推移，2008年乐队更名为The Rotted并且发行了两张高质量的专辑，2014年乐队与荷兰的Grindcore/Crossover乐队Collision合作发行了一张Spilt专辑之后宣布解散，2022年歌手Ben和老友鼓手Junky组建了一支新的乐队Impurist，当时杂志也为这支乐队进行了一次采访，也正是这次的采访让我和Ben结识，当时也与Ben交谈过采访Gorerotted这支乐队的意愿，但是Ben说乐队解散了，如果有一天重新组建Gorerotted乐队，我们很愿意进行采访，于是2026年Gorerotted宣布重新组建并且参加一系列的音乐节演出，当我得知这个消息之后立刻与Ben取得联系进行了这次的采访，那么现在通过与Ben的聊天来更多的了解一下这支历史悠久的老牌乐队Gorerotted吧！

Today's interview was with Gorerotted, a veteran Grindrell/Death Metal band from the UK. Founded in 1997, Gorerotted is undoubtedly the most influential British band and one of the most extreme bands in the UK at the time. Their 1998 demo work "Her Gash I Did Slash" attracted the attention of many fans. In 2000, they collaborated with Dead Again Records to release their first official album "Mutilated in Minutes", which received more attention from fans in other countries. Later, the band also gained the attention of the famous American label Metal Blade Records and signed with their own label to release it. Two classic albums from 2003 to 2005, The most iconic feature of Gorerotted band is undoubtedly their screaming part, which, when combined with Ben's singing, is absolutely disgusting, pathological, and gives a very terrifying feeling, The Gorerotted band not only embodies the characteristics of the singing part, but their arrangement is also very outstanding. The bass part is very prominent, and the drummer's performance is also very outstanding. With the passage of time, the band was renamed The Rotted in 2008 and released two high-quality albums. In 2014, the band announced their dissolution after collaborating with the Dutch band Grindcore/Crossover Collision to release a Spill album. In 2022, singer Ben and old friend drummer Junky formed a new band Impurist. The magazine also conducted an interview for this band, and it was this interview that made Ben and I get to know each other. At that time, we also talked about Ben's willingness to interview the Gorerotted band, but... Ben said the band has disbanded, and if one day they were to rebuild the Gorerotted band, we would be happy to conduct an interview. So, in 2026, Gorerotted I announced the reorganization and participation in a series of music festivals. Upon learning of this news, I immediately contacted Ben for this interview. Now, let's chat with Ben to learn more about this long-standing band Gorerotted!

Hello Ben, let's meet again. This time I'm going to interview the Gorerotted band that you are a part of. Gorerotted band was formed in 1997 and is a long-standing band with a long history. How did you first form this band? What does the name Gorerotted mean?

B: 乐队是1997年由Fluffy和另外两个家伙组建的，当时只有吉他、主唱和鼓手，但很快阵容就扩充到了六人，后来又加入了一名第二吉他手、第二主唱和一名贝斯手。我们只是一群共同热爱恐怖电影和Death Metal的朋友，聚在一起即兴演奏玩玩，当时完全没想到我们会变得这么受欢迎，也没想到会在这么多不同的地方演出！Gorerotted是garrotted（绞死）一词的错拼，指的是用铁丝等工具勒死人的方式。我记得这在某些国家曾是一种流行的死刑方式。不过我们特意改了拼写，既是为了强调歌词中血腥的内容，也觉得这样听起来挺有意思。令我惊讶的是，竟然很少有人意识到，在美国人们会把我们读作“GORE-rotted”，意指“腐烂的血肉”。

The band was formed in 1997 by Fluffy and 2 other guys, so just guitar, vocals and drums, but it soon expanded to a 6 piece when a second guitarist, second vocalist and bassist were added to the lineup. It was just a bunch of friends with a mutual love of horror films and death metal jamming together for fun, we had no idea we would ever become as popular or play in as many different places as we did! Gorerotted is a misspelling of garrotted, which is when someone has been strangled to death with a device such as a wire. I think it was a popular form of capital punishment in some countries. We changed the spelling though to emphasise the fact that we had gore lyrics and we thought it sounded clever. I’m surprised how few people have realised that, in the USA they call us GORE-rotted, as in gore than has rotted.

Your band has reduced from six members in the early days to four members now. Rev. Trudgill just joined the band this year, and the other three members are all first generation members. How did Rev. Trudgill join the band? Are you satisfied with his job?

B: 他就是最合适的人选！我和Fluffy、Junky Jon是唯一参与过Gorerotted所有专辑录制的人。我们的贝斯手Wilson曾参与第二和第三张专辑的录制，但不幸于2024年去世；而第一张专辑的贝斯手如今下落不明，所以我们便邀请了Trudgill。早在2008年我们组建The Rotted乐队时，他就曾与Fluffy和我一起演奏，因此是乐队历史的重要组成部分。即便在Gorerotted时期，他始终陪伴我们巡演——有时是代表他原乐队Screamin’ Daemon（他们是我们最亲密的朋友）登台演出，有时则帮忙开车或销售周边商品。如果他拒绝参加这次重组，重组很可能根本不会发生，因为对我们来说，找一位从早期就一直陪伴我们的人比随便找个临时乐手重要得多。要把一群身负诸多责任、分散在英格兰各地的中年大叔聚在一起排练非常困难，所以我们决定这次以四人编制进行。增加第二位吉他手和主唱除了视觉效果外并无太大助益，我们现有的阵容已能胜任所有工作，而这只会给排练、出行以及协调时间安排带来更多麻烦。

He was the only man for the job! Me, Fluffy and Junky Jon are the only people who were on every Gorerotted album. Our bassist Wilson was on the second and third album but sadly died in 2024, and we have no idea where the bassist from the first album is, so we asked Trudgill. He played with Fluffy and me when we became The Rotted in 2008 so is an important part of the band’s history, but even in the Gorerotted days he was always with us on tour, either playing in his old band Screamin’ Daemon who were our closest friends, or just helping out with driving and selling merch. If he had said no to joining the reunion its very possible it never would have happened, because it was important to us that we had someone who was with us throughout the early days, rather than just getting a random session musician. It’s hard getting a bunch of middle-aged guys with many responsibilities who live all over England together to rehearse, so we decided to do it as a four piece this time. A second guitarist and second vocalist wouldn’t have added a lot apart from visually, we can handle everything as we are, and it would have just been more hassle for rehearsing, travelling and all being available at the same time.

Your return to the collection of old members this time will make you very adept at creating, as you are very familiar with each other. Can you introduce your creative process? I believe your creative experience will bring inspiration to more young musicians!

B: 以前的做法是，Tim和Jon会花一个周末一起喝酒即兴演奏，创作音乐，然后我们就会想出一些有趣的歌名和歌词。其实也就这么简单。这些歌曲采用的是摇滚乐队自1950年代以来一直沿用的传统主歌/副歌/主歌结构，只不过我们显然把这种风格演绎得更重、更响亮！虽然我们自2005年以来就没再一起写过歌了，但如果以后再创作，我相信方式应该还是一样。

The old way was Tim and Jon would just drink and jam together for a weekend writing music, then we’d come up with funny song titles and lyrics. There’s not much more to it than that. The songs have a traditional verse/chorus/verse structure that rock bands have been doing since the 1950s, we just obviously do it a lot heavier and louder! We’ve not all written together since 2005 but if we write more music I’m sure it will be much the same way.

V: The Wilson于2024年去世。他是一位伟大的音乐人。我相信他的离世对你影响很大。你能介绍一下The Wilson吗？

The Wilson passed away in 2024. He was a great musician. I believe his death has had a great impact on you. Can you introduce The Wilson?

Wilson was a friend from Scotland who played in a cool band called Regorge who Fluffy signed to his label. When the original bassist left he filled in for a few shows and ended up moving down to London and joining full-time when Regorge had quickly fallen apart. He was a real character, often very drunk and out of control. We have many great and a few not so great memories with him. He is sorely missed by all who knew him, a true one of a kind guy.

Your logo design is very unique. Who designed this logo for you? Your album artworks are also designed uniquely. Who designed these album artworks for you? What does his inspiration come from?

B: 这个标志是第二任吉他手设计的，我记得他只是随手画了一下，但看起来和大多数Death Metal乐队的风格都不一样，所以就保留了下来。它有一种粗犷随性的感觉，就像我们的音乐一样！前两张专辑的封面由一位名叫Jake的漫画家创作，他以前出版过一部名为"Tales From Uranus"的漫画，现在我记得他画的是"Fukitor"。他的风格非常适合我们和我们的音乐——病态、残暴、夸张又滑稽。他从我们的歌词和歌曲标题中汲取灵感，创作出了至今仍让我们爱不释手的作品。我们最近联系了他，但他现在专注于自己的漫画创作，所以很遗憾，我们无法再请他为我们绘制封面了。

The logo was the second guitarist, I think he just scribbled it down and it looked different to what most Death Metal bands were doing so it stayed. It has a rough and ready feeling to it, just like our music! The artwork for the first two albums was by a comic book artist called Jake, he used to put out a comic called Tales From Uranus, now I think he does one called Fukitor. He had just the right style for us and our music - sick, brutal, over the top, funny artwork. He took inspiration from our lyrics and song titles and created something we still love to this day. We contacted him recently and he focuses on his comics now so sadly we won’t be able to get any more artwork made by him.

V: 你们在2014年宣布了乐队解散，直到今年才宣布重组。当初是什么原因导致你们宣布解散的？又是出于什么原因决定重组的？

You announced the disbandment of the band in 2014 and only announced your comeback this year. What caused you to announce the disbandment of the band? What reasons led you to reorganize the band?

B: 我们觉得已经完成了想做的一切，而且有了新的生活重心。乐队必须全情投入，当我们意识到无法再为它付出应有的时间和精力时，就该停下来了。我决定去上大学，Trudgill刚开了家纹身工作室，Fluffy和妻子组建了新乐队，而当时的鼓手Nate则回到了祖国以色列攻读生物化学博士学位。我觉得我们确实都需要那段暂别乐队的时光，大家各自忙碌着，但这些年来，总有人催促我们复出。我想现在时机正好，因为我们都已安顿下来，彼此关系也重归融洽，回首那些快乐的时光，让我们不禁怀念起来。我其实也不太清楚接下来的计划，也许只是几场演出，也许我们会继续下去，甚至可能发行一张新专辑？？时间会告诉我们答案！

We felt we’d done everything we wanted to do and had new priorities. The band has to be all or nothing, and when we realised we couldn't give it the time and energy it deserved, it was time to stop. I had decided to go to university, Trudgill had just opened a tattoo studio, Fluffy had started a band with his wife and our drummer at the time Nate was moving back to his homeland Israel to start a PHD in biochemistry. I think we all needed the time away from it really, and we kept ourselves busy, but for many years people have been asking us to come back. I suppose the time is right now because we’re all settled, we get along really well again, and looking back at the fun times made us miss it. I don’t really know what the plan is from here, maybe just a few shows, or maybe we’re stay and perhaps even put out a new album?? Time will tell!

V: 你曾与Metal Blade Records、Deepsend Records、Relapse Records、Dead Again Records等厂牌合作发行专辑，这些都是非常优秀的厂牌。你是如何与这些厂牌建立联系并展开合作的？你对这些厂牌的工作满意吗？

You and Metal Blade Records, Deepsend Records, Relapse Records, Dead Again Records and other labels have collaborated to release albums, all of which are excellent labels. How did you establish contact with these labels for cooperation? Are you satisfied with the work of these brands?

B: Dead Again Records是Fluffy的厂牌，所以他发行了首张专辑"Mutilated In Minutes"的首批CD。后来由于我们大力推广、销量不错，而且在欧洲各地举办了大量演出，Relapse便提议在全球（欧洲以外地区）重新发行这张专辑。我记得Deepsend曾向我们索要2到3首歌曲用于合辑CD，这些曲目恰好是我们刚录制完的第二张专辑"Only Tools And Corpses"中剩余的，这在寻找新厂牌期间不失为一种发布作品的好方式；随后Metal Blade向我们提出了签约四张专辑的邀约。我们之所以选择他们而非其他报价，是因为他们长期致力于发行极端金属音乐，旗下有Slayer、Cannibal Corpse、Vomitory等乐队。他们为提升我们的知名度、让更多人听到我们的音乐付出了巨大努力，是一家非常棒的厂牌，特别是在英国和欧洲地区。首张专辑刚刚由Hammerheart Records重新发行了黑胶版本，而Junky Jon将通过他自己的厂牌Wasted Existence发行第二、三张专辑的CD版本，因此现在可以再次集齐这三张专辑了。

Dead Again Records was Fluffy’s label, so he put out the first pressing of the first album ‘Mutilated In Minutes', then due to how much we promoted ourselves, how well it sold and how many shows we played all over Europe, Relapse offered to re-release it worldwide outside Europe. I think Deepsend asked for 2 or 3 songs for a split CD which we had left over from the second album ‘Only Tools And Corpses’ we’d just recorded so it was a good way to put out some music while we looked for a new label, then Metal Blade offered to sign us for four albums. We went with them over the other offers due to their long history of putting out extreme Metal, bands like Slayer, Cannibal Corpse, Vomitory etc. They did a lot to help boost our profile and get our music to so many more people and were a great label to be a part of, particularly here in the UK and Europe. The first album has just been re-released on vinyl by Hammerheart Records, and Junky Jon will put out the second and third albums on CD via his own label Wasted Existence, so its possible to get them all again now.

V: 酗酒/吸毒是你们音乐的主题。为什么选择这个主题？想通过这个主题表达什么？歌词部分也是你们创作的，这些歌词是谁写的？他的灵感来自哪里？

Alcohol/drug abuse is your music theme. Why did you choose this music theme? What do you want to express through this music theme? You also created the lyrics section, who created these lyrics? What does his inspiration come from?

B: 那是我们在决定摒弃血腥恐怖歌词后的一段短暂时期。我觉得我们已经写够了这类内容，于是决定聚焦于更贴近现实生活的恐怖。当时乐队里的每个人都是酗酒者，还有不少吸毒者，The Rotted乐队专辑"Get Dead Or Die Trying"中的许多歌曲都讲述了我们曾经历过的糟糕处境，虽然并非直接关于酒精或毒品，但往往是酗酒和吸毒导致的后果。接下来的专辑则更具虚无主义色彩，主题围绕死亡展开，这一直是我着迷的题材，至今我仍在为我和Junky Jon共同组建的新乐队Impurist创作相关歌词。

That was for a brief period after we decided to drop the gore and horror lyrics. I felt like we’d done that enough and decided to focus on more real life horrors. Everyone in the band was a heavy drinker with various drug users in that particular time and a lot of the songs on the The Rotted album ‘Get Dead Or Die Trying’ were about some of the bad siuations we’d been in - not directly about drink or drugs but often as a result of drink and drugs. The next album was more nihilistic and about death in general, a subject I’ve always been fascinated by and that I still write lyrics for in mine and Junky Jon’s new band we also do called Impurist.

All of your works are very classic, with high-quality recording effects that can be considered perfect. Moreover, your works incorporate a lot of technical content and old school elements, and each album has made significant progress. Although your works are all very old works, they still left a deep impression on me, especially the lead singer's voice, screaming, roaring, and throat sounds alternating. The drummer's speed is amazing, and the instant explosion sound gives people a cruel feeling. What do you think of your own works?

B: 我对前两张专辑"Mutilated In Minutes"和"Only Tools and Corpses"感到非常自豪，时隔二十多年，人们依然如此喜爱它们，这让我深感谦卑！我觉得第三张专辑"A New Dawn For The Dead"因种种原因远未达到应有的水准，我本想把它忘掉，但很多人告诉我这是他们有史以来最喜欢的Death Metal专辑之一或是让他们爱上这种音乐的契机，所以至少这点意义还是有的。不过，我对后来以The Rotted名义发行的专辑"Get Dead Or Die Trying"非常满意。我们最后一张专辑"Ad Nauseam"至今仍是所有我参与过的乐队及所有发行作品中，我最引以为豪的时刻。它既残暴又沉重，却不失多样性——既有快节奏曲目，也有D-beat风格的曲目，还有慢速曲目以及带有Motorhead风格的曲目，整张专辑从头到尾都拥有流畅的连贯性。有太多平时不听这种音乐的人——Punk乐迷、Black Metal乐迷、Thrash乐迷等等，都告诉我他们有多喜欢这张专辑。我们倾注了全部的心血，直到今天我依然认为它是张劲爆之作。

I’m very proud of the first two albums 'Mutilated In Minutes' and 'Only Tools and Corpses' and it’s very humbling that people still love them more than 20 years later! I feel the third album 'A New Dawn For The Dead' was nowhere near what it should have been for various reasons and I try to forget about it, but I’ve had a lot of people say it’s one of their favourite Death Metal albums of all time or the one that got them into the music, so that’s something at least. But I’m very happy with the next album we did as The Rotted, 'Get Dead Or Die Trying'. The last album we did, 'Ad Nauseam' remains my proudest moment out of all the bands I’ve ever been in and everything thats been released. It’s brutal and heavy but has variety, so there’s fast songs, d-beat songs, slower songs, Motorhead sounding songs and it has a proper flow from start to finish. I’ve had so many people not usually into this kind of music, Punks, Back Metal fans, Thrashers etc. tell me how much they love it. We put the most amount of heart and soul into it and I still rate it as a banger to this day.

V: 你们今年回归了，那么回归后的第一年需要做些什么工作呢？你们计划创作或录制一些新歌吗？我非常期待你们的新作品！

You have returned this year, so what work do you need to do in the first year of your return? Are you planning to create or record some new songs? I am looking forward to your new works very much!

B: 我不确定我们是否会以Gorerotted的名义继续创作音乐，但如果真的要做，对我来说，要超越"Ad Nauseam"可得出一张非常棒的专辑才行！我毫不怀疑我们能制作出一张出色的专辑，但我不敢确定我们能否再做出像前两张专辑那样风格的作品，而我认为这正是大多数乐迷所期待的。我们只能走着瞧了。目前我们已确定11月将在英国参加欧洲最大的室内金属音乐节Damnation Festival，12月则会前往荷兰参加Eindhoven Metal Meeting，这也是个很棒的音乐节。明年我们已确定参加德国的Heidelberg Deathfest和美国的Maryland Deathfest。希望还能增加几场演出，让我们能去到上次巡演时未曾到访的地方。

I’m not sure if we will do more music as Gorerotted but if we do it will take a hell of a record to beat 'Ad Nauseam' for me! I have no doubt that we could make a great album, but I’m not sure we would be able to make another album that sounds like the first two, which I think is what most the fans will want. We will have to see what happens. So far we're booked to play Europe’s biggest indoor Metal festival Damnation Festival here in the UK in November, then in December we will play Eindhoven Metal Meeting in The Netherlands, which is a great fest also. Next year we're booked for Heidelberg Deathfest in Germany and Maryland Deathfest in the USA. Hopefully there will be a few more and we will get to places we never played the first time around.

V: 你们参加过许多重要的音乐节，哪些给你们留下了深刻印象？能介绍一下当时的现场氛围吗？

You have participated in many important music festivals, which ones have left a deep impression on you? Can you introduce the live atmosphere at that time?

B: 我觉得对我们乐队来说最重要的，是2000年在德国举办的“Fuck The Commerce”音乐节。那是我们第一次参加露天音乐节，当时我们在演出名单上排倒数第三，但一上台，尽管我们当时只有一张demo作品，观众席瞬间就坐满了！主办方后来告诉我，他把我们安排在前面，就是为了把大家从帐篷里拽出来哈哈。此后多年，人们总跟我说，那正是他们第一次看到我们的音乐节，也是Metal Bade唱片公司首次发现我们的地方，这很可能促成了几年后他们与我们签约。

I think the most important one for us as a band was Fuck The Commerce in Germany, back in 2000. It was our first ever open air festival, and we were only third from the bottom of the bill, but as soon as we hit the stage the crowd filled the arena even thougj all we had out waa one demo ! The promoter later told me he put us on earlier to get people out of their tents haha. That was the festival people kept telling me for years after that they first ever saw us at, and it was where Metal Bade first saw us, and probably led to them signing us a few years later.

Gorerotted is a great band, and I have always been a loyal fan of your band. I have been following your band closely and hope that through this interview, more Chinese fans will pay attention to and support your band. I also hope that your return can release a new album. At the end of the interview, do you have anything you want to say to Chinese fans?

B: 感谢所有一直支持我们的人，也欢迎新朋友的加入！如果有一天我们能在中国演出，那将是一件非常棒的事，希望很快能在那里见到大家！
