How did Victormonica first come together? Could you talk about the origin and meaning behind the band name?

We’re all based here in Staffordshire, and it started with a shared hunger to make something raw, heavy, and uncompromising. I’d been writing ideas and looking for people who wanted to play with real heart and aggression . We linked up through the local scene, jammed a few times, and instantly clicked: Jay Hellfire on vocals, Sean Willday on guitar, David Williams on bass, and Mike Ellis on drums. Right from the start, we knew we wanted to mix hardcore’s grit with death metal’s weight, and build something that hits hard live and hits hard on record. It’s been a journey of refining our sound, locking in as a unit, and pouring everything we’ve got into every track. We took two powerful words and merged them into one identity: Victor — from the Latin for “conqueror”, standing for resilience, overcoming every obstacle, and fighting until you stand tall; and Monica — representing strength, endurance, and the quiet fire that keeps you going when things get tough. Put together as ViCTORMONICA, it’s about the fight that never quits: victory isn’t just about winning — it’s about surviving the storm together, side by side. It sums up everything we stand for: disciplined chaos, unbroken spirit, and music that hits you like a force of nature.

Which bands first sparked each member’s passion for metal? Your sound fuses grindcore, death metal, metalcore and hardcore. How do you weave all these different elements naturally into your songwriting?

J: Slayer、Pantera、Hatebreed 和早期的Napalm Death等乐队最早吸引了我——那种原始的侵略性、仿佛要从胸腔里撕裂而出的嘶吼，以及那种直击心底、毫不妥协的厚重感。

It was bands like Slayer, Pantera, Hatebreed and early Napalm Death that grabbed me first — raw aggression, vocals that sound like they’re tearing out of your chest, and that unapologetic heaviness that hits you right in the gut.

Your discography centres on psychological decay, dark fantasy and the darker sides of human nature. What drives you to keep exploring inner mental anguish as your core lyrical theme? Where do you turn for inspiration when hitting creative blocks — literature, films, or real-life experiences?

We don’t force any of it — it all comes from what we love individually, and how we lock together as a unit:

• Grindcore gives us that sharp, fast precision and tight blast-beat energy.

• Death metal brings the crushing weight, dark atmosphere and guttural power.

• Metalcore adds those sharp, driving grooves, breakdowns and hook-heavy structure that hits live so hard.

• Hardcore is the backbone — the raw anger, the heart, the urgency and that never-say-die attitude.

We start with the feeling first, not a rulebook. We let riffs, rhythms and vocals flow where they naturally want to go — sometimes fast and chaotic, sometimes slow and crushing — and blend those styles until they sound like us. It’s all about controlled chaos: keeping it heavy, keeping it honest, and making sure every part serves the song and the energy we want to bring.

Which band has influenced your music the most? What other kinds of music do you enjoy listening to outside metal?

We focus on psychological struggle and the darker side of human nature because it’s honest, raw, and something so many people carry quietly. For me personally, (Jay Hellfire)horror films are my biggest influence — every song we write unfolds like a dark, intense horror story set to heavy sound. The ViCTORMONICA girl you see on all our artwork brings this to life visually: she acts out the themes and narrative of every single release, becoming the face of the music itself. We pull inspiration from real life experiences, horror cinema, and any story that digs deep into what drives or breaks us. When we hit creative blocks, we always come back to what feels true — that’s where the real power comes from

Critics describe your live shows as “controlled chaos”, stating you don’t merely perform metal, but weaponise it. What emotions do you feel while you’re onstage? What kind of experience do you hope to deliver to your audience?

If we had to pick one band that’s shaped us more than any other, it’s Hatebreed. That unbreakable mix of raw hardcore aggression, crushing weight, and that never-back-down attitude is exactly the fire we build everything around. They showed us that heavy music can hit hard and still carry real heart and purpose. Alongside them, bands like Napalm Death, Slayer and Machine Head have all played a huge part in how we craft our sound too. We don’t stick to just one style at all! We love gritty old-school punk, raw rock, and even some darker alternative stuff. I’ve got a soft spot for 80s. Horror soundtracks too — that eerie, tense sound feeds right into how I write. We all listen to whatever hits us with feeling, no rules at all

All of your single artwork features a consistent dark narrative aesthetic. Do you brainstorm these visual concepts within the band, or do you work long-term with a dedicated artist?

That description hits exactly right — and up there, it feels like every bit of us comes pouring out all at once. It’s pure adrenaline, raw fury, unbreakable brotherhood, and total focus all rolled into one. Everything we’ve lived, everything we’ve fought through, every word we’ve written — it all comes alive right there in that moment. We don’t hold back, we don’t play it safe; we turn every bit of that fire into something we share with everyone watching. We want people to leave feeling like they’ve been part of something real and powerful. We want them to step away from the weight of the world for a while, release everything they’re carrying, and walk out feeling stronger, fired up, and ready to stand tall. This isn’t just a show — it’s a shared fight, a shared release, and that “controlled chaos” is exactly how we turn music into something that hits you right in the soul

You combine grindcore, death metal, metalcore and hardcore in your music. Do you intentionally shift the balance between these styles to match different emotional themes? For example, in what moments will you lean further into the frantic pace of grindcore?

It’s a mix of both — all the core ideas come straight from us first. We sit down together and map out exactly what story, mood and feeling each track carries, then build the visuals around that. We work closely with one dedicated artist long-term too, someone who truly understands our world, our horror-inspired style, and exactly what the ViCTORMONICA girl represents. We make sure every piece links perfectly to the song’s lyrics and themes, so the music and the artwork tell one complete story from start to finish

Absolutely — it’s all driven by feeling first. We don’t force it, but we absolutely lean harder into different styles to match what the song needs:

• Grindcore speed and blasts come in when we’re capturing panic, chaos, rage boiling over, or that frantic, breathless feeling of everything falling apart — pure unfiltered urgency.

• Death metal weight takes over for moments of dread, crushing realisation, or slow, heavy inevitability.

• Metalcore groove and punch hits when we want that rallying, fists-up drive.

• Hardcore heart anchors it all — the defiance, the brotherhood, the fight that never quits.

We follow the emotion and the story, not a rulebook. If the lyrics scream panic and chaos, we hit that grind pace. If it’s about standing firm through the storm, we lock into that crushing, steady groove. It’s all about making the sound match exactly what we want you to feel.

On your newest single, what different tonal approaches were applied to vocals, guitars, bass and drums during mixing, to build that apocalyptic sense of despair compared to your earlier releases? Could you walk us through the creative process behind this track?

Working with Owen Davies at Loud Noise Production, we went for something bigger, darker and more atmospheric than before — built to feel like the end of everything.

• Vocals: I pushed harder, rawer, with more hardcore grit and layered depth — less controlled, more like a voice screaming through the chaos, with subtle reverb to make it feel vast and lonely.

Guitars: We tuned slightly higher than before — giving us extra clarity, energy and bite, so every riff stays crisp and cuts through perfectly. This keeps them sharp and alive, never getting buried or muddy against the deep bass weight.

• Bass: Massive, dominant low end that anchors everything — heavy enough to rattle through you, but tight enough to never get lost.

• Drums: Hit harder, deeper, with sharper attack and huge room space — blasts feel frantic and breathless; slower sections feel slow, heavy and inevitable — exactly that apocalyptic dread we wanted.

We started with the core feeling: the calm before collapse, the fight when all hope is fading. Riffs and rhythms were written to match that rising tension — building from brooding unease into total all-out fury. Every part was shaped to serve the story, not just show off. Once we locked the arrangement, Owen helped us sculpt every tone until it sounded exactly like the world tearing itself apart — heavier, darker, and more desperate than anything we’ve made before.

V: 后续乐队会发完整的全长专辑吗？会不会形成完整的歌曲故事线？

Do you have plans to release a fulllength album in the future? Would you aim to craft a continuous narrative storyline running through a body of songs?

Absolutely — a full concept album is already written and ready to go: “The Burning Girl – Vengeance Unbound”. It tells one complete, unbroken story of this figure on a path of relentless vengeance — literally a horror movie laid down on record. It centres perfectly around the same character you see as the ViCTORMONICA girl on all our artwork, with every track building the next chapter of her tale. Everything we’ve released so far has been building toward this. It’s dark, cinematic, and exactly the kind of heavy, immersive experience we’ve always wanted to create — and we can’t wait to bring this whole epic story to life

V: 英国金属场景氛围如何？你们印象最深的一场演出给你们带来什么感觉？

What is the atmosphere like within the UK underground metal scene? Could you share how your most memorable live performance made you feel?

It’s raw, real, and built on pure brotherhood — especially here in the Midlands, where heavy music runs deep in our blood. It’s not about trends or fame; it’s about grit, passion, and everyone pulling together: bands helping bands, promoters putting everything on the line, and crowds turning up ready to lose themselves completely. It’s sweaty, loud, unpolished, and fiercely loyal — a place where you earn your place through blood and fire, not hype. For me, it was when we played a packed room and the whole place didn’t just watch us — they became part of us. Every scream, every fist in the air, every movement matched exactly what we were putting out. It felt like time stopped, like all the struggle and all the hours we’d put in just exploded right there in front of us. I felt humbled, electrified, and absolutely unstoppable — like we weren’t just playing music, we were fighting side by side with every single person in that room.
