今天采访到的是来自葡萄牙的Lucky XIII乐队,这支乐队是Melkor和D‑Void多年前组建的乐队,组建不久之后并没有发布作品,而是沉寂了多年,甚至连Melkor和D‑Void都忘记了这支乐队的存在,某一天D‑Void在电脑里找到了关于Lucky XIII乐队一些旧资料,所以Melkor和D‑Void决定重新为这支乐队创作作品,前不久Melkor和D‑Void发行了Lucky XIII这支乐队的最新作品“Fortune’s Curse”,阴暗,冰冷的氛围,残暴的Death Metal Riff让这张专辑得到了更多人的关注,前不久乐队的创始人Melkor与1乐队取得联系进行了一次专访!

Today we're interviewing Lucky XIII, a band from Portugal formed by Melkor and D-Void years ago. Shortly after its inception, the band remained dormant for many years without releasing any material—so long that even Melkor and D-Void forgot about its existence. One day, D-Void stumbled upon some old Lucky XIII files on his computer, prompting the duo to recommit to creating new work for the band. Recently, Melkor and D-Void released Lucky XIII's latest album, “Fortune's Curse.” Its dark, icy atmosphere and brutal death metal riffs have garnered significant attention. Not long ago, the band's founder, Melkor, connected with the band for an exclusive interview!

Hello Melkor, we meet again. This time we are going to interview the Lucky XIII band that you participated in. Was this band formed in that year? Does this name have any meaning?


M: Lucky XIII是一个存在多年的项目,虽然我实在说不清具体年头。我只记得它曾长期沉寂——硬盘损坏后被遗忘,埋没在记忆的阴影里。我和D-Void都忘了它的存在,直到某天他在电脑里偶然翻出旧文件。那次重逢如同开启密封的坟墓:吉他即兴段落、创作灵感、沉寂多年的歌曲片段,全都静静等待着重见天日。自此我逐块重建项目,将其重塑为比过往更阴暗沉重的存在。“Lucky XIII”之名自带矛盾性——十三既是恐惧之数,亦是崇拜之数。于我们而言,它化作命运与叛逆的象征,诅咒蜕变为力量的印记。乐队诞生于这种张力:一度消亡,偶然复苏,如今屹立为明证——即便是厄运也能点燃新火。


Lucky XIII is a project that has existed for some years, though I honestly can’t say exactly how many. What I do know is that it was lost for a long time, forgotten after a hard drive failure, buried in the shadows of memory. Neither I nor D‑Void remembered it existed, until one day he stumbled across the old files on his computer. That rediscovery was like opening a sealed tomb: riffs, ideas, fragments of songs that had been waiting in silence. From there, I rebuilt the project piece by piece, reshaping it into something darker and heavier than it ever was before. The name Lucky XIII carries its own contradiction, thirteen is feared by some, revered by others. For us, it became a symbol of fate and defiance, of curses turned into strength. The band is born from that tension: lost once, resurrected by chance, and now standing as proof that even misfortune can ignite new fire.

How many members does the band have now? How did they join the band? Are you satisfied with their work?


M: Lucky XIII本质上是我独立打造的项目,从零开始构筑于我的个人愿景与创作方向之上。但这次我再度有幸与D‑Void合作——他精湛的吉他技艺将整部作品提升至全新境界。他的即兴独奏精准穿透黑暗,旋律营造出令人心悸的氛围,与“命运诅咒”的核心概念完美契合。他以极其自然的方式融入项目——当我分享早期草稿时,他瞬间领悟音乐背后的灵魂,随即开始构思自己的演奏部分,仿佛自始便参与其中。这并非招募成员,而是寻觅能与诅咒共鸣的完美声线。我对他的作品自然极为满意。D-Void的贡献不仅在于技术上的精湛,更在于情感的深度。他为项目赋予了第二维度,将孤独的构想升华为更宏大的存在——它承载着我们双方的能量而呼吸。音乐之外,D-Void更是我珍视的挚友,这份情谊让合作更具意义,他的存在为我们共同创作的一切注入信任、情谊与真实。


Lucky XIII is essentially my project, built from the ground up with my own vision and direction. But once again I’ve had the privilege of working with D‑Void, whose mastery on the guitar elevates the entire work to another level. His solos cut through the darkness with precision, and his melodies bring a haunting atmosphere that perfectly matches the concept of Fortune’s Curse. He joined the project in a very natural way, when I shared the early drafts with him, he immediately understood the spirit behind the music and started shaping his parts as if he had been there from the beginning. It wasn’t about recruiting a member; it was about finding the right voice to complement the curse. I am, of course, extremely satisfied with his work. D‑Void’s contribution is not just technical brilliance, but emotional depth. He gave the project a second dimension, turning it from a solitary vision into something greater, something that breathes with both our energies. And beyond the music, D‑Void is a great friend of mine, which makes the collaboration even more meaningful, his presence adds trust, camaraderie, and authenticity to everything we create together.


V: 你是如何进行创作的?能否谈谈你的创作历程?


How do you create? Can you introduce your creative experience?


M: 说实话,我甚至不太记得这个项目是如何成形的。最初构思Lucky XIII时,我本质上是以摇滚为根基,但这些年来我在录音、制作、母带处理乃至个人声线方面都积累了更扎实的功底。这种成长让我有信心为项目注入更深厚的底蕴,将风格推向金属乐的领域。我的创作过程是:将已录制素材拆解重组。重新录制贝斯与吉他声部,赋予鼓组全新音色,并重塑整体氛围以契合心中更暗黑的构想。D-Void的独奏部分未作改动——他始终秉持一次到位的严谨态度,其音色卓越非凡,编曲更是无可挑剔。此后制作过程近乎仪式化:我常在深夜工作,层层叠加乐句与音色,直至歌曲仿佛拥有了呼吸。灵感时而骤然降临,我便争分夺秒捕捉转瞬即逝的火花;时而需耐心聆听、反复打磨,将声音雕琢至恰到好处的分量。最终这场创作之旅,与其说是创造,不如说是复苏:让被遗忘的元素重获新生,更沉重、更黑暗,更贴近Lucky XIII本应有的模样。


To tell the truth, I don’t even fully remember how this project came together. My original vision for Lucky XIII was essentially rooted in rock, but over the last years I’ve developed stronger skills in recording, production, mastering, and even with my own voice. That growth gave me the confidence to add more weight to the project and push the style closer to metal. My creative experience was to take what had already been recorded, strip it down, and rebuild it. I re‑recorded my bass and guitar parts, gave the drums a new sound, and reshaped the atmosphere to match the darker vision I had in mind. The solos from D‑Void remained untouched, he has always had the discipline to get things right the first time, and his sound is excellent, his composition immaculate. From there, the process became almost ritualistic. I worked late at night, layering riffs and textures until the songs felt like they were breathing. Sometimes inspiration struck suddenly, and I would rush to capture it before it faded. Other times it was about patience, listening, refining, sculpting the sound until it carried the right weight. In the end, the creative journey was less about invention and more about resurrection: taking something forgotten and giving it new life, heavier, darker, and truer to what Lucky XIII was meant to be.


V: 这张专辑的录音效果非常出色。你还是在自己的工作室录制的吗?


The recording effect of this album is excellent. Did you still record it in your own studio?


M: 是的,我始终在自己的工作室——Studios13完成所有录音。唯一例外是D-Void的独奏部分,他会在自己的工作室录制。这从未让我担忧,因为他提交的作品总是完美无瑕,我只需将音轨导入我的工程文件,与我的部分进行混音即可。尽管我的设备数量有限,更谈不上顶级配置,但我始终竭尽全力从现有器材中榨取最佳音质。对我而言,关键在于用耳朵仔细聆听,雕琢声音,修正瑕疵,将混音提升到我所能达到的最高品质。归根结底,这并非取决于设备,而是取决于背后的专注与愿景。


Yes, I always record everything in my own studio - Studios13. The only exception are the solos by D‑Void, which he records in his own studio. That never worries me, because his work always arrives perfectly executed, I just have to drop the tracks into my session and mix them with mine. Even though I don’t have a huge amount of gear, and certainly not the most high‑end equipment, I always push to get the best possible sound out of what I do have. For me, it’s about using my ears carefully, sculpting the sound, correcting any flaws, and elevating the mix to the highest quality I can achieve. In the end, it’s not about the gear, it’s about the dedication and the vision behind it.


V: 你的Logo设计非常精美。是谁为你设计的这个Logo?你的专辑封面设计也相当出色。是谁为你设计的这套封面?


Your logo design is very beautiful. Who designed this logo for you? Your album artwork is also beautifully designed. Who designed this artwork for you?


M: 这次我依然全程独立完成。如同我多数项目那样,它始于人工智能构筑的愿景——我仅将其作为收集与整合创意的工具。在此基础上,我通过Photoshop反复修改并重新定义每个细节,才开始构思手册的装帧方案。由于预算有限无法聘请艺术家实现构想,我几乎必须独自处理所有环节。这迫使我不仅要钻研音乐,还得学习视频剪辑、Photoshop操作,甚至要处理新闻稿这类行政事务。当然我更希望不必亲力亲为,但若不自己动手,一切都不会发生。所以从标志到封面设计再到册子,都是我双手与构想的延伸。


Once again, I did everything myself. As with most of my projects, it began with a vision shaped through A.I., which I used only as a tool to gather and merge ideas. From there, I modified and redefined every detail in Photoshop before even starting to think about assembling the booklet. I have to handle almost everything on my own, because I don’t have the budget to pay artists to realize my vision. That forced me to learn, not only sound, but also a bit of video, Photoshop, and even the bureaucratic side of things like press releases. Of course, I would prefer not to have to do it all myself, but if I don’t, nothing happens. So the logo, the artwork, the booklet, they are all extensions of my own hands and vision.


V: 这张专辑是通过你自己的厂牌发行的吗?有CD版本吗?


Did you release this album on your own label? Does he have a CD version?


M: 是的,这张专辑通过我自己的厂牌发行,目前仅提供数字版本。有趣的是,它恰好在我从事噪音创作三十周年之际问世,同时标志着我个人第五十张专辑的诞生——不仅包含个人作品,也涵盖与其他乐队及厂牌合作的成果。目前暂无CD版本,但数字发行能让音乐即时触达听众,这正是我追求的速度与独立精神——用行动而非等待实体制作来纪念里程碑。不过实体唱片始终是地下音乐的仪式感载体,未来或许会推出CD或特别版以致敬这份传承。这次发行更具象征意义:它证明历经三十载,我依然不安分,仍在创作,仍在前行。Lucky XIII不仅是又一个项目,更是明证——即便发行了五十张专辑,那团火焰依然未熄。


Yes, this album was released through my own label, and it is available only in digital format. Curiously, it comes out in the same year that I celebrate 30 years of making noise, and it marks my 50th album overall, counting not only my solo releases but also the ones I’ve done with other bands and labels. There is no CD version at the moment, but the digital release felt like the right way to make the music available immediately. For me, it was important to underline the milestone with speed and independence rather than wait for physical production. Still, I see physical editions as part of the underground ritual, so perhaps in the future there could be a CD or even a special edition to honor the legacy.This release is also symbolic: it shows that after three decades, I am still restless, still creating, and still pushing fo rward. Lucky XIII is not just another project, it’s proof that even after 50 albums, the fire hasn’t burned out.


V: 你的音乐主题是什么?为何选择这个主题,又想通过它表达什么?歌词部分也是你创作的,这些歌词出自谁手?创作灵感来自哪里?


What is the theme of your music about? Why did you choose this music theme, and what do you want to express through this music theme? You also created the lyrics section. Who created these lyrics and what inspired them?


M: 是的,所有歌词皆出自本人之手。Lucky XIII的主题围绕命运、诅咒与叛逆展开,探讨着幸运与厄运永恒的张力。选择这个主题不仅因其映射十三这个数字的神话,更因它映照着我自身的旅程:三十载在地下世界中嘈杂、伤痕累累却顽强生存的岁月。歌词灵感源于个人经历的碎片,亦汲取自机遇的象征——骰子、锁链、镜面、火焰。它们诉说着命运的沉重、幸运的残酷,以及通过反抗实现的破茧而出。每首歌都是仪式,每个词都是刻入声波的伤痕。对我而言,这个主题不仅是叙事,更是表达。我想展现的是:即便命运背弃你,拥抱诅咒并将其转化为力量依然能获得力量。Lucky XIII讲述的是将厄运铸造成身份认同的故事,而歌词正是这种蜕变的呐喊。


Yes, I created all the lyrics myself. The theme of Lucky XIII is built around fate, curses, and rebellion, the eternal tension between fortune and misfortune. I chose this theme because it reflects not only the mythology of the number thirteen, but also my own journey: thirty years of noise, scars, and survival in the underground. The lyrics were inspired by fragments of personal experience, but also by symbols of chance, dice, chains, mirrors, fire. They speak about the weight of destiny, the cruelty of luck, and the act of breaking free through defiance. Each song is a ritual, each word a scar carved into sound. For me, this theme is not just storytelling. It’s expression. I wanted to show that even when fortune turns against you, there is strength in embracing the curse and transforming it into power. Lucky XIII is about turning misfortune into identity, and the lyrics are the voice of that transformation.


V: 首先恭喜你今年发行了新专辑。您的作品融合了经典摇滚的粗犷与现代金属的厚重,以即兴重复的雷霆节奏和充满力量的声线为特色。您如何评价自己的创作?


First of all, congratulations on the release of your new album this year. Your work blends the ruggedness of classic rock with the heaviness of modern metal, with thunderous rhythms of improvised repetitions and powerful vocals. What is your opinion on your work?


M: 非常感谢大家的祝贺。我将这张专辑视为身份宣言。它融合了经典摇滚的粗粝质感与现代金属的厚重感,因为这种双重性始终是我创作愿景的核心——一面是原始能量,另一面是压倒性的重量。对我而言,雷霆般的节奏与即兴重复不仅是音乐选择,更是将混沌转化为秩序的途径。在演唱方面,我刻意尝试突破以往在其他项目中惯用的声线模式。但有时仍会不自觉地回归那种唱法。最终呈现的效果既充满力量又独具特色,在控制与激情间取得平衡。我为这张作品感到自豪,因为它充满真诚。它并非精雕细琢的完美之作,而是用信念雕琢而成的艺术。它既映照我的过往,也折射当下——根植摇滚的根基,演变为金属的轨迹,以及永不妥协的信念。最终,“Fortune’s Curse”不仅是一张专辑,更是我音乐征程的镜像,它以最忠实的方式捕捉了Lucky XIII乐队的精髓。


Thank you very much for the congratulations. I see this album as a statement of identity. It blends the grit of classic rock with the heaviness of modern metal because that duality has always been part of my vision, raw energy on one side, crushing weight on the other. For me, the thunderous rhythms and improvised repetitions are not just musical choices; they are a way of channeling chaos into structure. With the vocals, I deliberately tried to do something different this time, not to fall into the same type of voice I use in many of my other projects. Still, from time to time I end up going back to that approach, almost instinctively. The result is powerful but distinct, a balance between control and intensity. I am proud of this work because it feels honest. It is not polished to perfection, but carved with conviction. It reflects both my past and my present, the roots in rock, the evolution into metal, and the refusal to compromise. In the end, Fortune’s Curse is more than just an album; it is a mirror of my journey, and I believe it captures the essence of Lucky XIII in a way that is true to its spirit.


V: 新专辑发行后还有哪些新工作要做?能否和大家分享一些信息?


What new work do you have to do after the release of the new album? Can you share some information with everyone?


M: 一如既往,我手头有许多项目在推进。明年计划放缓节奏,投入更多时间打磨音色、钻研制作技术,追求更臻完美的成果。为此需要稍作退后,专注阅读、研究并深入探索声音的本质。可以透露的是Necro Algorithm的第三张专辑正在创作中,Terra Mortis也有新素材在筹备。明年有两张专辑准备发行,其中一张将通过唱片公司以CD形式发布。Nekromatics的新专辑也已进入后期制作阶段。所以即便放缓脚步,明年依然会有许多动态。今年的账目已结清,新周期将聚焦于成长、精进,以更深邃精准的姿态让这些项目焕发生命力。


As usual, I have many projects in progress. Next year I plan to work at a slower pace compared to this one, taking more time to refine the sound, study production techniques, and aim for even better results. For that, I need to step back a little, dedicate time to reading, researching, and learning more about sound itself. I can already share that the third album of Necro Algorithm is being created, and there is also new material for Terra Mortis. I have two releases ready for next year, one of which will be released on CD through a label. The new album of Nekromatics is also well advanced. So even though I am slowing down the pace, a lot will still happen next year. This year’s accounts are already closed, and the next cycle will be about growth, refinement, and bringing these projects to life with more depth and precision.
