历史的长流 - 乌克兰Progressive Thrash Metal乐队Violent Omen专访

今天采访到的是来自乌克兰的Progressive Thrash Metal乐队Violent Omen，组建于2009年的Violent Omen，由Faunus，FloodsZAI12009年组建并且2009年发行了第一张Demo作品，随后乐队开始大量的创作发行作品，2013年的专辑“L.U.N.A.C.Y.”让更多人关注了他们，他们也放弃了早期带有Death Metal和Black Metal的元素，转而成为了一支技术型的乐队，大量Progressive的元素展现出乐队成员之间精湛的技术，今年乐队发行了他们的最新专辑“Locomotive of Chaos”，在新专辑发行之际杂志与乐队取得联系进行了一次专访！

Today, we are interviewing Violent Omen, a progressive thrash metal band from Ukraine. Formed in 2009—the same year they released their debut demo—the band subsequently embarked on a prolific period of songwriting and releases. Their 2013 album, *L.U.N.A.C.Y.*, garnered significant attention; by this time, they had moved away from the death and black metal elements of their early days to embrace a more technical style, showcasing the band members' superb musicianship through complex progressive elements. With the recent release of their latest album, *Locomotive of Chaos*, we reached out to the band for an exclusive interview.

Hello there—it’s a pleasure to meet you, and thank you so much for taking part in this interview. I believe this is the first time your band has been interviewed by a Chinese magazine. To start things off, please say hello to all your Chinese fans. Violent Omen is a long-standing band formed back in 2009; how did the band originally come together?

M: 向所有的中国乐迷问好！能有机会与大家交流，我们深感荣幸；也希望通过这次采访，能让更多中国听众了解 Violent Omen 以及我们的新专辑"Locomotive of Chaos"。

Violent Omen是由我和FlooDs在2009年共同组建的。我们之前曾在一支名为Crucifix的乐队共事并因此相识，但在那里我们无法完全实现自己的音乐构想。我们都不愿放弃音乐创作，所以在离开Crucifix大约一个月后，我决定组建Violent Omen。

乐队起初演奏的是Black/Thrash Metal。我们与Lucifugum乐队前主唱Faunus合作录制了最初的几首demo，并于2010年发行了首张专辑"Infernal Express"。不久之后，鼓手Yuriy Sinitsky 加入了我们，他精湛的技术为乐队开辟了全新的可能性。正是在那时，我们的音乐开始迅速向Technical Thrash Metal的方向发展。

Hello to all our Chinese fans! It’s a great honor for us to have the opportunity to speak to you, and I hope this interview will help more people in China discover Violent Omen and our new album Locomotive of Chaos.

Violent Omen was formed in 2009 by me and FlooDs. We had previously played together in a band called Crucifix, where we met, but we couldn’t fully realize our musical ideas there. Neither of us wanted to stop making music, so about a month after leaving Crucifix, I decided to form Violent Omen.

At first, the band played black/thrash metal. We recorded our first demos with Faunus, the former vocalist of Lucifugum, and in 2010 released our debut album Infernal Express. Shortly afterwards, Yuriy Sinitsky joined us on drums, and his technical abilities opened completely new possibilities for the band. That’s when our music began developing rapidly toward technical thrash metal.

In 2011 we released Lunatic’s Revenge, and in 2013 came L.U.N.A.C.Y.. Those albums established the musical direction that we are returning to now with Locomotive of Chaos.

V: Metal Priest 目前是乐队唯一的元老级成员，其他成员均已离队。当初元老成员为何离开？新成员又是如何加入的？你对他们的表现满意吗？他们给乐队带来了哪些变化？

Metal Priest is currently the only original member of the band; the others have all left. Why did the original members leave? How did the new members join? Are you satisfied with their work? What changes have they brought to the band?

M: 最初的阵容最终解体，原因在于长期积累的个人误解、分歧以及对乐队未来发展方向的不同构想。在"L.U.N.A.C.Y."之后，我们着手创作新作品，但我感觉音乐风格偏离了我们既定的Thrash Metal定位，转而向着Progressive Modern Death Metal的方向发展。这成为了导致乐队内部矛盾激化的因素之一。

2014年，当内部矛盾达到临界点时，我离开了Violent Omen并组建了Bestial Invasion。该乐队在与其他乐手合作一段时间后，最终陷入了停滞状态。

乐队的重组完全出乎意料。2024年，我与Yuriy Sinitsky在阔别多年后偶然重逢。我们进行了交谈，化解了旧日的矛盾，并最初组建了一个全新的乐队——Tria Prima。后来在合作过程中，我们萌生了重启Violent Omen的想法。

我们最初考虑过恢复旧阵容，但FlooDs无意参与。于是我决定亲自担任主唱，并邀请Evgeniy Maestro担任吉他手。Evgeniy自2014年起就是我长期的音乐伙伴，我们曾在不同的项目中合作录制过许多专辑。

因此，新阵容由三人组成：我负责主唱和贝斯，Evgeniy负责吉他，Yuriy负责鼓。

我对他们为乐队带来的贡献感到非常满意。Evgeniy的演奏显著提升了我们的吉他表现水准，尤其是吉他独奏部分；而Yuriy依然是一位经验丰富且技术精湛的鼓手。

与此同时，在离开Violent Omen的这些年里，我们三人都成长为更加成熟的音乐人，因此新作品在构思和编曲上也更加完善、出色。

The original lineup eventually fell apart because of accumulated personal misunderstandings, disagreements and different visions for the band’s future. After L.U.N.A.C.Y., we started working on new material, but I felt that the music was moving too far away from our established thrash-metal identity and toward progressive modern death metal. This became one of the factors that contributed to the problems within the band.

In 2014, after our problems had reached a critical point, I left Violent Omen and formed Bestial Invasion. The band continued for a while with other musicians but eventually became inactive.

The reunion happened completely unexpectedly. In 2024 I accidentally met Yuriy Sinitsky again after many years. We talked, resolved our old conflicts and initially started a completely new band, Tria Prima. Later, while working together, the idea of resurrecting Violent Omen appeared.

We originally considered returning to the old lineup, but FlooDs wasn’t interested in participating. So I decided to take over the vocals myself and invited Evgeniy Maestro to play guitar. Evgeniy has been my longtime musical partner since 2014, and we’ve recorded many albums together in different projects.

The new lineup is therefore a three-piece: me on vocals and bass, Evgeniy on guitar, and Yuriy on drums.

I’m extremely satisfied with what they have brought to the band. Evgeniy’s playing has raised the level of our guitar work considerably, especially the solos, while Yuriy remains an exceptionally experienced and technically capable drummer.

At the same time, the three of us have become more mature musicians during the years away from Violent Omen, so the new material is more developed and better arranged.

V: 能跟我们聊聊你们的创作过程吗？新专辑的制作进展顺利吗？

Could you tell us about your creative process? Is the process of creating the new album going smoothly?

M: "Locomotive of Chaos"的创作过程相当独特，因为这张专辑汇集了我人生不同阶段写下的音乐素材。

起初，我手头有四五首歌，原本是为“Cosmic Jaguar”乐队相关的一个个人项目而构思的。由于该乐队当时处于无限期停滞状态，我打算把这些素材用于一张个人专辑。但后来我意识到，这些歌曲蕴含着更大的潜力，其实更适合“Violent Omen”乐队。

我向Yuriy提出了这个想法，尽管他起初持怀疑态度，但最终还是同意了。随着Evgeniy的加入，一切便水到渠成地推进起来。

与过去相比，我们的创作方式发生了一些变化：一方面，过去十多年间，我在音乐人和作曲方面都有了长足进步；另一方面，Evgeniy 是一位出色的编曲家。这使我们能够在保留“Violent Omen”音乐精髓的同时，打造出更为精妙的编曲。

我们在2025年录制了专辑中的七首歌曲，整个过程总体上非常顺利。

The creative process for Locomotive of Chaos was quite unusual because the album came together from material written during different periods of my life.

I originally had four or five songs that I had been developing for a solo project connected with Cosmic Jaguar. Since that band was on an indefinite hiatus, I was planning to use the material for a solo album. But eventually I realized that the songs had much greater potential and would be better suited to Violent Omen.

I presented the idea to Yuriy, and although he was initially skeptical, he eventually agreed. Once Evgeniy became involved, everything started coming together naturally.

Our approach has changed somewhat compared with the old days because I’ve grown considerably as a musician and composer during the past ten-plus years, while Evgeniy is an excellent arranger. This allowed us to create more sophisticated arrangements without losing the essence of Violent Omen.

We recorded seven songs for the album in 2025, and overall the process went very smoothly.

V: 你们乐队在每一张新专辑的录音质量上都取得了显著进步。请问你们使用了哪些录音室？由谁担任制作人？新专辑的录制过程顺利吗？

Your band has made significant strides in recording quality with each successive album. Which studios did you use, and who produced the albums? Did the recording process for the new album go smoothly?

M: 对于"Locomotive of Chaos"这张专辑，我们在Zhytomyr的Morrison Studio进行了录音，而混音和母带处理则由Zaporizhzhia的Nuts4all Studio负责。

我们此前已与这些录音室合作过数张专辑，因此彼此之间建立了良好的合作关系与沟通机制。在Morrison Studio，我们主要录制鼓和人声；吉他和贝斯则是在家中录制“干信号”，随后发送给Nuts4all，由那里的工程师打造最终的音色。

这一次，我们的主要目标是呈现出一种既自然又极具侵略性的音色。我们希望专辑听起来尽可能接近现场演出的质感，因此特意避免使用采样和鼓触发器，力求保留那种老派的风格。

制作technical thrash颇具难度，因为既要保证清晰度，又要兼顾侵略性。我认为我们成功实现了这种平衡，并且对最终的成品感到非常满意。

Zhytomyr, while mixing and mastering were handled by Nuts4all Studio in Zaporizhzhia.

We’ve already worked with these studios on several albums, so there is a very good working relationship and communication between us. At Morrison Studio we record the drums and vocals, while guitars and bass are recorded at home with clean signals and then sent to Nuts4all, where the engineers create the final sound.

This time our main goal was to achieve a very natural and aggressive sound. We wanted the album to sound as live as possible, so we deliberately avoided samples and drum triggers and tried to preserve an old-school feeling.

Technical thrash is difficult to produce because you need both clarity and aggression. I think we managed to achieve that balance, and we’re very happy with the final result.
