今天采访的是来自意大利的Heavy/Groove Metal乐队Darkhold，组建于2022年的Darkhold乐队是一支非常年轻的乐队，由Methedras和Nefastis等乐队的成员组建，在组建不久之后乐队便发行了第一首单曲，2023年发行了第二首单曲以及他们的第一张正式专辑“Tales from Hell”，这张专辑由意大利厂牌Ghost Record Label发行，Darkhold的作品结合了Heavy/Groove Metal的元素，让这支乐队在旋律方面更加的吸引人，也更加的具有活力，再加上Heavy Metal的元素让这支乐队迅速成为目前意大利最炙手可热的乐队之一，今年乐队在意大利的另外一家厂牌Nadir Music发行了他们的第二张正式专辑“Centuries of Purgatory”，在新专辑发行之际杂志与Darkhold取得联系进行了一次专访！

Today, we are interviewing Darkhold, a Heavy/Groove Metal band from Italy. Formed in 2022, Darkhold is a very young group established by members of bands such as Methedras and Nefastis. Shortly after their formation, they released their debut single, followed in 2023 by a second single and their first full-length album, *Tales from Hell*, released via the Italian label Ghost Record Label. Darkhold’s music blends Heavy and Groove Metal elements, resulting in a sound that is both melodically engaging and highly energetic. This distinctive style has quickly propelled them to become one of Italy's hottest bands. This year, they released their second album, *Centuries of Purgatory*, through another Italian label, Nadir Music; to mark the occasion, we caught up with Darkhold for an exclusive interview!

Hello there—it’s a pleasure to meet you, and thank you so much for taking part in this interview. I believe this is the first time your band has been interviewed by a Chinese magazine. To start things off, please say hello to all your fans in China. Darkhold is a young band formed in 2022; how did you all come together to form the group?

D: 大家好，非常感谢这次机会，这是一种荣幸……Darkhold是一个诞生于2022年的原创音乐项目，它是我们第一个项目——Testament的欧洲唯一致敬乐队The Preachers——的自然延续，因此成员阵容保持不变。当然，我们深受Testament的影响，但也为能在这个新项目中融入我们个人的音乐风格及更偏向Classic Heavy的特质而感到自豪；正是这些特质促成了我们 2023年首张专辑"Tales From Hell"以及2026年最新专辑"Centuries Of Purgatory"的创作与制作。

Hello everybody and thank you so much for this opportunity, it’s an honour… Darkhold is an original project born in 2022 as a natural prosecution of our first project named The Preachers, the only european triubte band to Testament, so members remained the same. Of course we are influenced by them but we are also proud to have marked this new project with personal musical influences and a more classic heavy oriented vein, that help us to create and produce our debut album Tales From Hell in 2023 and our last Centuries Of Purgatory in 2026.

Your band has maintained its original lineup, which makes the process of creating new songs much smoother since you know each other so well and understand the kind of work everyone aims to produce. Could you tell us a bit about your creative process?

D: 两张专辑之间的创作过程略有不同，因为它们的概念诞生于我们人生的不同阶段，且可用的时间周期也各不相同。"Tales From Hell"中的歌曲历经多年创作，与致敬乐队时期的活动是同步进行的；而"Centuries Of Purgatory"的创作、录制和制作则是在不到两年的时间里完成的，节奏紧迫，且带有一种强烈的紧迫感——我们要借此宣告这是对我们当下状态的全新表达，因为我们都沉溺于“罪恶”之中。尽管如此，两张专辑的创作流程基本一致，有时从吉他 Riff或人声旋律切入；不过这一次，我们的创作不再那么杂乱无章，也不再盲从80和90年代金属乐的既定教条，而是更具技术性，也更专注于最终呈现的效果。

Creating process between our two albums changed a little bit, because their concepts have been created in two different times of our life, and with two different timings available. If Tales From Hell songs have been composed through many years and in the same times of tribute band existence, Centuries Of Purgatory was composed, recorded and produced in less than two years, with choking composition rhythms and an insane urgence to declare itself as a new manifest of our personal present situation, as we are all Sins addicted. Our creative process had been the same for both albums, sometimes starting by a guitar riff or a vocal lines, but this time less disorganized and slaves of historical of 80’s and 90’s metal dogmas, more technical and more focused on final results.

V: 你们迄今为止已经发行了两张专辑，而且两张专辑的音质都非常出色。这些作品是在哪些录音室录制的？由谁担任制作人？新专辑的录制过程顺利吗？

You have released two albums so far, and both feature outstanding sound quality. At which studios were they recorded, and who produced them? Did the recording process for the new album go smoothly?

D: "Tales From Hell"是在Genus Ordinis Dei乐队鼓手Nicola Pedrali拥有的Factory Studio录制并制作的。那是一家年轻的录音室，配备了优秀的音频引擎和处理器，非常契合我们当时想要呈现的理念，以及我们希望向世界讲述的关于Infernal Sins的故事。我们对最终的成品感到非常自豪，因为它不仅是我们的首张专辑，更让我们有机会共同迈向一个新的音乐高度——一种与我们以往个人经历截然不同的音乐视角。到了"Centuries Of Purgatory"，我们在音色和风格上实现了巨大的飞跃，并在Nadir Studio进行了全新的录制，全程由Sadist乐队的灵魂人物 Tommy Talamanca亲自操刀指导。一股全新的金属乐风暴从我们的手中与脑海中迸发而出，而我们的新作正是这一蜕变的见证。

Tales From Hell was recorded and produced at Factory Studio of Genus Ordinis Dei drummer Nicola Pedrali, a young studio with good music engines and processors, useful at that time for the concept we wanted to show and for the Infernal Sins tales we liked to explain to the world: we are very proud of the final result because it was not only our debut album but also because it gave us the chance to step up us all together in a new musical viewpoint, so many different from our previous personal experiences. With Centuries Of Purgatory we made a huge forward jump to a new sound, a new flavour and new recording sessions at Nadir Studio, under the magical supervision of Tommy Talamanca, mastermind of Sadist. A new metal wind blowed out of our hands and heads and our new stuff is here to witness it.

V: 你们音乐的主题是什么？为什么选择这个主题？你们希望通过它传达什么？关于歌词创作，是谁负责撰写的？灵感来源是什么？

What is the theme of your music? Why did you choose this theme, and what do you wish to convey through it? You also wrote lyrics for the music; who penned them, and what was the inspiration behind them?

D: Darkhold首先是一支概念型乐队，因为是Book Of Sins借由我们的思想与口吻在进行表达。正因如此，每一首歌都是对不同“罪恶”的诠释；虽然创作灵感源自Dante Alighieri的"神曲"三部曲（地狱、炼狱、天堂），但我们对“罪恶”这一概念的探讨深深植根于现实世界与浩瀚宇宙之中，这也意味着我们的音乐生涯与“罪恶之路”不会局限于但丁的作品或灵感。所有的歌词与概念均由我（主唱Claudio）构思撰写，而乐队的其他成员则负责打造专辑中那些震撼人心的音乐。 Tales From Hell乐队推出的"Sins"是一部关于"uchronia"的诠释之作，其构思源于一个全球性的“如果……会怎样”的假设，并将这一视角投射到我们童年熟知的经典故事角色身上——如匹诺曹、彼得·潘、汉塞尔与格蕾特、小红帽或花衣吹笛人。这是一段漫长而黑暗的旅程，探讨了这些角色如何试图从各自的罪孽中寻求救赎；然而，他们本质上即是“罪”的化身，因此对于改变其虚假存在的状态并无真正意愿。在"Centuries Of Purgatory"这张专辑中，我们将焦点转向人类的存在本身及其“七宗罪”。尽管人类不断努力，却始终无法摆脱这些恶习的纠缠；他们沦为了某种“煎熬”的奴隶——这种煎熬潜行于肌肤之下，深入骨髓，与神经交织融合，形成了一种令人无法逃脱的彻底依附关系。我们深知，“罪”是一位古老的君主，它伴随着人类日常生活的点滴而生存、滋长；但真相在于，“罪”是一切渴望自我演化之物的种子——它宛如一种无视时空界限、肆意蔓延的癌症，正因如此，它绝非仅仅局限于人类的存在范畴之内。

Darkhold is first of all a concept band, because it is the Book Of Sins that speaks through our minds and mouth. For this reason all songs are a manifest of different sins, based upon Dante Alighieri’s trilogy (Hell, Purgatory and Heaven) but with Sin concept deep rooted in earth and universe, reason why our musical career and Sins Path will not be restricted by Dante’s work or inspiration. All lyrics and concepts are created and written by me (Claudio, the singer) and other guys members think about powerful music you can listen to on our albums. Sins out by Tales From Hell are the explanation of a “Ucrony”, based upon a global “what if” process applicated on famous tales characters of our childhood, as Pinocchio, Peter Pan, Hansel & Gretel, Red Riding Hood or The Piped Piper: a long, dark trip across possibilities of redemption by their personal sins, but in the end they are sins themselves, so really not interested to value a new way for their fake existence. With Centuries Of Purgatory we focused more on human existence and its Seven Deadly Sins, vices that humans, despite of their persistent efforts, are unable to move away from their daily lives, slaves of an “Agony” that crawls under their skins, inside their bones, melted up with their nerves, in a total dependence that leaves no escape. We know that Sin is an ancestral lord that lives and grow up with its constant application on humanity daily life, but the truth is that Sin is the seed of everything that wants to evolve himself, something like a cancer with no boundaries, across time and space, and for this reasons it’s not confined by humanity existence.

V: 你们的两张专辑分别由Nadir Music和Ghost Record Label发行——这两家都是非常出色的厂牌。你们是如何与他们建立联系并展开合作的？对他们的工作表现满意吗？

Your two albums were released by Nadir Music and Ghost Record Label, respectively—both excellent labels. How did you connect and collaborate with them? Are you satisfied with their work?

D: Ghost Record是一家规模虽小却力求做到极致的厂牌；在推广"Tales From Hell"专辑时，选择与他们合作对我们而言是一次尝试，我们也感谢他们为我们争取到的乐评和采访机会。不过，我们深知作为一支乐队，我们还能做得更好，因此在新专辑的制作上，我们彻底改变了方向。其实，通过以往的音乐经历以及曾与他们合作过的乐队朋友，我们早就了解 Nadir 团队了；但真正进入他们的录音室、每周与他们紧密协作并共同开启项目的新篇章，这还是头一回。我们对这次合作感到非常满意——这一点，只要听听"Centuries Of Purgatory"

这张专辑就能印证。

Ghost Record is a very little label that tried to make its work at the best, it has been a bet for us during Tales From Hell promotion and we thank it for reviews and interviews it found out for us, but we knew that as a band we could do it better, so we completely changed direction for our new album; we already knew Nadir family by previous musical experiences and friend bands that teamed up with them in the past, but it was the first time for us in their studio, cooperating with them weekly and building up a new chapter of our project, and we are hugely satisfied of this partnership, and you can confirm it listening to Centuries Of Purgatory.

V: 你们乐队的标志和专辑封面设计得非常精美，是谁为你们创作的？

Your band's logo and album artwork are beautifully designed; who created them for you?

D: 乐队的标志和符号是在我们指导下，由意大利纹身艺术家Andrea Rota设计创作的；他还绘制了我们首张专辑"Tales From Hell"的完整双折页插画，随后由Sabnock Design进行了数码勾线处理。"Centuries Of Purgatory"的封面艺术则由优秀的意大利艺术家Sheila Franco创作并上色，其风格在延续上一张专辑的基础上，融入了更具古典油画质感的色调，令我们为之倾倒。

Band’s logo and symbol were designed and created under our supervision by italian tattoo artist Andrea Rota, who also drew the whole two folds panel of our debut album Tales From Hell, then digitally inked by Sabnock Design; Centuries Of Purgatory artwork was created and coloured by fine italian artist Sheila Franco, with a style that evolve the previous album but with more classical canvas shades that drove us completely crazy.

V: 首先，恭喜你们今年发行了第二张全长专辑。你们在传统重金属的基础上融入了更多Groove Metal元素，使音乐听起来更具旋律感和节奏魅力。你们的演奏技术非常出色——每一个Riff都经过精心打磨，乐器间的配合也天衣无缝。对于这部作品，你们有何感想？

First of all, congratulations on the release of your band's second full-length album this year. You’ve incorporated more groove metal elements into a traditional heavy metal foundation, making the music sound more melodic and rhythmically engaging. Your technical proficiency is outstanding—every riff has been meticulously crafted, and the interplay between instruments is flawless. What are your thoughts on the work you’ve created?

D: 首先，非常感谢您对我们作品的评价：这是我们多年来不断练习与切磋技艺的结晶——不仅是在排练室里的磨合，更是我们在动荡疯狂的时代洪流中，作为性格迥异的音乐人相互碰撞融合的产物。当然，我们都是重金属传统的拥趸，也都有各自崇拜的金属偶像，绝无背离传统或偶像之意；但我们也深知，Darkhold的音乐首先属于我们自己：它是我们留给后代的“见证”，是注入音乐的灵魂，也是我们对世界的愿景——这个世界完全有能力、也必须比过去和现在做得更好。我们将音乐交到乐迷和听众手中，希望他们能为自己及子孙后代的未来而战，否则“罪恶”将永远主宰他们的世界。显然，我们对目前的专辑感到非常满意，但也深信下一张专辑总会更胜一筹，如此循环往复，直至时间的尽头……

First of all thank you so much for your words about our work: it’s the final result of years and years of practice and technical exchanges between us, not only in rehearsal room but also as so different musical spirits in the meltdown of these crazy times. Of course we are all fans of heavy metal tradition, we have all our personal metal idols and we don’t want to betray it or them, but we are also aware that first of all Darkhold music is our: it’s our “testament” for next generations, it’s our souls inside music, our vision of a world that can and must do better than what it had done in the past and it’s doing in the present; we give it in the hands of our fans and listeners, hoping they will fight their battles for them and their sons, otherwise Sin will be always the master of their universe. Obviously we are very satisfied of our albums by now but we also know that the next one will always be the best one, and so one ‘till the end of times...

V: 你们参加过哪些音乐节或现场演出？哪些演出给你们留下了深刻印象？能否描述一下当时的现场氛围？2026年又有哪些新的演出在等待着你们？

Which music festivals or live performances have you attended? Which ones left a deep impression on you, and could you describe the atmosphere at the time? What new performances await you in 2026?

D: 过去三年里，我们有幸在意大利各地的许多俱乐部以及一些精彩的意大利金属音乐节上表演，比如2024年的Isola Rock和Metal For Emergency、2025年的Rock Inn Somma，以及2026年的Luppolo In Rock和Rock and Bol。这些都是令人惊叹的经历，台下的观众总是充满激情，随时准备投入到moshpit、circle pits和walls of death之中，与我们一同歌唱、跳跃，至少在我们的演出期间，让灵魂从Sins中得到释放。我们为2027年制定了丰富的现场演出计划：已经确定参加另一个很棒的意大利音乐节，另外两个也在洽谈中，同时我们还计划在意大利及其他地区举办多场俱乐部演出。不过，当务之急是在2026年12月之前的几场即将到来的演出中为乐迷们献艺——那将是六场火力全开、震撼全场的演出。

During last three years we had the amazing chances to play our music in many clubs across Italy and on such wonderful italian metal festivals: Isola Rock and Metal For Emergency in 2024, Rock Inn Somma in 2025 and Luppolo In Rock and Rock and Bol in 2026; all astonishing experiences with a crazy crowd in front of us, always ready for moshpit, circle pits and walls of death, singing and jumping with us, letting thier souls free from Sins at least during our shows. We have so many live plans for 2027, another beautiful italian festival is already coonfirmed, two others are on the way and we are planning many others in clubs not only in Italy, but first of all we need to play for our fans during next upcoming gigs until december 2026, 6 firebombs shows that will take no prisoners.

V: 你们为2026年安排了哪些新项目？比如创作新歌？能否与大家分享一些细节？

What new projects do you have lined up for 2026? For instance, will you be creating new songs? Could you share some details with everyone?

D: 我们的新专辑诞生至今才三个多月，因此在未来至少一年半的时间里，我们的重心将放在现场演出和专辑的全面推广上。不过，我们也计划在2027年着手创作一些新作品；这主要取决于我们在音乐之外的个人生活以及灵感迸发的情况，但对于未来的创作理念，我们已经明确了方向。

Our new album born a bit more than three months ago, so we are and we will be focused an live performances and promotion of it everywhere for at least one year and a half, but we also had in our plans to start creating some new stuff across 2027, it will mainly depends on our personal lives out of music and on our inspirations, but we already know which path to follow for our future concepts.

V: 你们是一支非常出色的乐队，我会继续关注并支持你们。也希望这次采访能鼓励更多中国乐迷关注并支持你们的音乐。在采访结束之际，你们有什么话想对中国的乐迷说吗？

You are an outstanding band, and I will continue to follow and support you. I also hope that this interview will encourage more Chinese fans to take an interest in and support your music. As we wrap up, is there anything you would like to say to your fans in China?

D: 我们衷心感谢中国乐迷的支持，希望能尽快造访贵国并现场演绎我们的音乐；我们真心希望这一讯息能传达给当地的演出主办方，从而促成一次全国范围的小型巡演，或者至少能在某个主要城市举办一场与当地金属乐队同台的金属之夜——那将是梦想成真的时刻。所以，别再犹豫或失去信心，让金属乐的热血奔涌起来，共同实现这个梦想吧——我们敢保证，那绝对会是一场震撼人心的盛会。还有，别忘了向Darkhold忏悔你的罪孽，它正注视着你……

We are simply grateful to our Chinese fans for their support, we’d like to visit your country and play our music there as soon as possible; we really hope that our messagge will reach your local promoters, in order to have a chance for creating a mini tour across your country or at least a metal night in one of your main cities with your local metal scene bands, it would be a dream come true. So don’t loose time and hopes, let the metal flows and realize this common dream, it will be a total blast, we can really promise it.
