说到印度尼西亚我想大家一定都会想到Brutal Death Metal的乐队，的确印度尼西亚的Brutal Death Metal这种风格在中国非常受到关注，但是在印度尼西亚也有很多其他风格的乐队也值得大家关注，今天我就为大家介绍一支来自印度尼西亚的Progressive / Thrash Metal乐队Mika Rafello，这支来自印度尼西亚的单人乐队的Mika Rafello在2020年用自己的名字创建了这支乐队，Mika Rafello在创建这支乐队的时候只有16岁，虽然Mika Rafello无论是乐队还是成员都是非常年轻，但是Mika Rafello却是非常成熟的，如同剃刀一般的Riff，再加上Progressive的元素，让Mika Rafello的作品非常独特，目前Mika Rafello已经发行了五首单曲，每一首单曲都受到了广泛的好评和关注，可谓是非常的成熟，在前不久Mika Rafello与我取得联系进行了一次专访，还要说到的是Mika Rafello与中国也有渊源，他的家人来自中国！

Hi Mika Rafello it's nice to meet you and thank you for contacting me for this interview, I guess this is your first interview with a Chinese magazine, first of all say hello to your Chinese fans, Mika Rafello the band was created using your name, why do you use your own name as the band name? The band will be formed in 2020, how did you come up with the idea for the band?

Thanks for the opportunity for the interview. Yes, it is my first time with a Chinese magazine. I would like to say hello to all chinese metal fans, i'm sure there's many metal heads out there. Mika Rafello actually it's not a band name, it's a solo project for me. The story behind the projects was I cannot get everybody when i started to make music, it was started when covid 19 spread. I didn't play music before covid even though I was in the family of music, my father's one of the most recognized producer / sound engineer in Indonesia and he was a metal head when he was young but later he did many styles of music from pop to death metal. I only started learning guitar at the start of covid, since I cannot go anywhere, so I picked up the guitar and tried to play. I learned from YouTube that I tried to play Slipknot and Metallica. When my father knew I played guitar he told me to try to make my own music.

You're the only one in the band, I think that makes it very easy in terms of songwriting, you don't have to think about what other people are thinking, you just create the music the way you want it to be, how do you create the songs, can you describe the process?
M: 为了给我创作一首歌，我开始演奏一些Riff，然后根据我的感觉创作了歌曲的整个部分，所以对于每个音乐家来说，从基本的Riff开始，然后构建整个部分基本上都是相同的。我还演奏了我歌曲中的所有乐器，因为在新冠病毒期间没有人可以走出家门，而且当时我没有演奏音乐的朋友。这使得这个过程比我在乐队中很多人参与歌曲时更快。
In Order to make a song for me, I started playing some riffs and then I created the whole part of the songs based on my feel, so it's mostly the same for every musician starting with a basic riff and then building the whole part. I also played all instruments in my songs since nobody can get out of the house during covid and I don't have friends who play music at that time. This makes the process faster than if I'm in the band when many people are involved in the songs.
V: 你的歌曲在录音方面非常出色，你的作品是在哪个录音室录制的？哪位制作人制作了你的歌曲
Your songs are excellent in terms of recording, what studio did you record your work in? Which producer produced your song
M: 我很幸运，因为我父亲经营着一家名为soundSATiON的录音室。我用的都是我父亲工作室的东西，他入行大概有30年了，但他没有告诉我过程；他只是给了我他所有关于从头开始到完成产品的书籍，我们对此进行了很多讨论。 我觉得很幸运，他让我学习了录音过程并学会了自己制作。所以我最终成为了自己的制作人，我还录制了所有乐器，混合并设计了所有歌曲，我父亲完成了母带制作过程，我想我可以说我父亲是幽灵联合制作人，因为如果我不这样做的话 明白一些事情我总是要求他解决，但他不想碰任何东西，他只是给出解释，让我自己思考和解决。
I'm lucky enough since my father runs a recording studio called soundSATiON. I used all the stuff from my father's studio, he's been in the industry for about 30 years, but he didn't tell me the process; he just gave me all his books of the recording process from scratch to finish the product and we had a lot of discussion about it. I felt lucky he made me learn the recording process and learn to produce by myself. So I ended up as a producer for myself, also I recorded all the instruments, mixed and engineered all the songs, my father did the mastering process, I think I could say my father is the ghost co-producer since if I don't understand something I always ask him to solve it but he didn't want to touch anything, he only gave the explanation and make me think and solving by myself.

The band's logo is a typical Thrash Metal style, who designed this logo for you?Your album artwork is really beautiful, who designed this artwork for you?
M: 是的，这是一个典型的Logo，它是由我父亲的朋友设计的。他也是印度尼西亚Thrash先驱之一Rotor的前歌手，我们称他为Ungki。他几乎为我所有的单曲创作了艺术作品。他是印度尼西亚最受欢迎的乐队艺术艺术家之一。
Yes it's a typical logo, it was designed by my father's friend. He is also an ex-singer from one of the Indonesia thrash pioneers called Rotor, we called him Ungki. He did artwork for almost all of my singles. He is one of Indonesia's most popular artists for band artwork.

What is the theme of your music about? You didn't compose the lyrics part? What do you get your inspiration from?
M: 我的音乐主要是关于我的表达，尤其是当时我因为不能出去、上学、和朋友一起玩等而感到愤怒。我不写所有的歌词。"Twisted Minds"是我的第四张单曲，也是我第一次写歌词。这是关于政府和政治的事情。我的第一首单曲“Ketika Aku di Ketika”歌词由Roy Jecovox创作。他是这里的摇滚传奇人物之一，我父亲早在2000年就曾和他一起工作过。他写了关于我的歌词，这很令人惊讶。他是第一个要求我父亲为我的歌曲配音的人，他写到我很生气，对新冠期间的所有情况感到恼火。第二首单"Temporal Sequence"是一首与印尼碎纸机之王Ezra SImanjuntak合作的器乐歌曲。第三张单曲是我与印度尼西亚Instru Mental传奇Getah的Oddie主唱合作。他写了关于贪婪政客的歌词。
Mostly my music is about my expression, especially at that time I was angry about not being able to go out, school, playing with friends, etc. I don't write all the lyrics. Twisted Minds, my 4th single was the first time I wrote the lyrics. It's about the government and political stuff. My first single "Ketika Aku di Ketika" lyrics written by Roy Jecovox. He is one of rock legends here, my father used to work together with him back in the 2000. He wrote the lyrics about me, which is surprising. He's the first one asking my father to lay down the vocals for my song, he wrote about me being angry, annoyed with all the conditions during covid. The second Single "Temporal Sequence" is an instrumental song with Indonesia king of shredder, Ezra SImanjuntak. Third single I collaborate with Oddie frontman from indonesia industrial metal legend Getah. He wrote the lyrics about greedy politicians.
V: 你目前没有与任何唱片公司签约，你的所有作品都是以数字形式发行的，你有考虑过与唱片公司合作吗？
You're not currently signed to any labels, all of your work is released digitally, have you considered working with a label?
M: 是的，我现在没有与任何唱片公司签约，因为在印尼，对金属音乐感兴趣的唱片公司并不多，而且我父亲是业内资深人士，他说最好自己发行，然后等待是否有唱片公司对我的音乐感兴趣，希望有一天会发生。
Yes I don't signed by any label right now, because in Indonesia not many label interested in metal music, also because my father is a veteran in the industry he said better to releases it by ourself and waiting if any label interested in my music, hopefully someday will be happened.
V: 您获得了2021年AMI奖提名，这个奖项是关于什么的？能跟我们说说这个奖项吗？获得提名后有什么感受？
You've been nominated for an AMI award in 2021, what is this award about? Can you tell us a little bit about the award? How did you feel after being nominated?
M: AMI奖是印尼最大的音乐奖项，2021年有4645首歌曲注册该奖项。我父亲注册了我的第一首单曲，出乎意料的是，我获得了金属类的提名。我很高兴，因为这是我的第一首单曲，当时我14岁，这首歌是我13岁时写的，我从未想过自己会获得如此权威奖项的提名，因为我只是一个刚刚开始玩音乐的小孩子。因为这首歌，很多印尼金属界的人都认识了我。
AMI Award is the biggest music Award in Indonesia, in 2021 there were 4,645 songs registered for the award. My father registered my first single and surprisingly I was nominated for the Metal category. I was happy because it's my first single and I was 14 years old at that time, the song was written when I was 13 years old, I never thought I would be nominated for such a prestigious award, because I was just a little kid and just started playing music. Many Indonesian metal communities knew me because of that song.

I've just finished listening to your work and I'm very happy with it, although you're only 17 years old, your compositions really don't match your age, you're completely beyond your years, sharp, continuous aggressive riffs with some Progressive elements to make your arrangements even more complex, the drums are very rich in terms of both tempo and variations, and you've got one of the most recognizable voices out there, powerful and powerful, it's really hard to imagine that you're only 17 years old, what's your opinion about your work?
M: 其实我才16岁，我学唱歌是因为我已经准备好了15首歌，但我必须等一些人来配音，在和我父亲讨论之后，他告诉我你为什么不试试唱歌呢？过了一段时间，我开始有了唱歌的信心，当然我也需要为我的歌曲填词。这就是我开始唱歌的原因，我一直在等待有人为我填词。
Actually i'm stil 16, I learned to sing because I had like 15 songs ready but I have to wait for some people to lay down the vocals, and after some discussion with my father, he told me why don't you try to sing, so my father brought me to one of his friend place to learn basic singing including growling etc. After a while I started to grow my confidence to sing and of course I need the lyrics for my songs. That's the reason I started singing, I was waiting too long for someone to lay down the vocals.
V: 你在2024年有什么新的工作计划吗？比如创作、录制一些新歌，能透露一些信息吗？
Do you have any new work coming up in 2024? Like writing, recording some new songs, can you reveal some information to people?
M: 实际上，在covid的时候，我已经完成了整张专辑的音乐或者说不止一张专辑，我已经写完并完成了15首歌曲，但就像我之前写的那样，有些歌曲还没有歌词。然后covid就结束了，我每天都要上学，时间不多了，但我还在创作，只是没有以前那么紧张了，我希望明年我能完成这张专辑，这样它就能很快发行了。
Actually when it as covid I completed music for the whole album, or I say more than 1 album, I have written and finished 15 songs, but like I wrote before some songs don't have lyrics yet. And then covid is over, I have to go to school everyday, I don't have much time anymore but Im still working on it, but not as intense as before, I hope next year I will be completing the album so it can be released soon.
V: 对于中国乐迷来说你的乐队还是一支全新的乐队，并没有很多人认识你，但是我希望通过这次的采访能够让更多的中国歌迷认识和关注你的乐队，在最后你有什么想和中国歌迷说的吗？
Your band is still a brand new band to Chinese fans and not many people know you, but I hope that this interview will help more Chinese fans to know and pay attention to your band, do you have anything you would like to say to your Chinese fans in the end?
M: 对于中国的金属乐迷来说，做你自己，你想做什么就做什么，永远不要屈服。我可以这么说，因为我从未放弃过对乐器的尝试，最终我可以演奏任何我想演奏的乐器，做我喜欢的音乐，耐心是学习的关键。我从未想过自己能得到国际公司的认可，但这在我演奏音乐仅仅一年后就实现了。我的代言人是日本 Aria 吉他公司。
