今天采访的是来自葡萄牙的Black / Death / Thrash Metal乐队NecroFlagelo,组建于2025年的NecroFlagelo乐队是一支非常年轻的乐队,由Melkor一个人组建并且在2025年发行了第一张正式专辑“Liturgia do Apocalipse”,浓重的黑暗气息,凶残的Death MetalRiff,充满了力量的Thrash Metal元素,让这支乐队在今年众多同类型专辑中脱颖而出,在新专辑发行之际杂志与老朋友Melkor再次取得联系进行了一次专访!

Today's interview is with Black/Death/Thrash Metal band NecroFlagelo from Portugal. Founded in 2025, NecroFlagelo is a very young band formed by Melkor alone and released their first official album "Liturgia do Apocalypse" in 2025. The strong dark atmosphere, ferocious Death Metal Riff, and powerful Thrash Metal elements make this band stand out among many similar albums this year. On the occasion of the release of the new album, the magazine contacted old friend Melkor again for an exclusive interview!

Melkor hello again we meet again today for an interview with your own band NecroFlagelo, what year did you form this band and does the name NecroFlagelo mean anything?
M: NecroFlagelo在被诅咒的2025年被召唤出来,诞生于个人崩溃、精神衰败和内心需要为毁灭后的沉默发声的融合。这个名字本身就是两种原始力量的融合——死灵,死亡的本质,不仅是物质的,而且是精神和宇宙的以及Flagelo,在我们的母语中,意思是祸害或神圣的惩罚。总之,NecroFlagelo不仅仅是一个名字,而是一个预言——死亡之灾,一种吞噬所有光,只留下神圣灰烬的力量。它象征着一个已经被评判、已经迷失的世界。
NecroFlagelo was summoned into existence in the cursed year of 2025, born from a convergence of personal collapse, spiritual decay, and a visceral need to give voice to the silence that follows annihilation. The name itself is a fusion of two primal forces - Necro, the essence of death, not merely physical but spiritual and cosmic; and Flagelo, which in our native tongue means scourge or divine punishment. Together, NecroFlagelo is not just a name, but a prophecy - the Scourge of Death, a force that devours all light and leaves nothing but sacred ash. It’s a symbol of a world already judged, already lost.
V: 这个乐队还是你一个人的吗?
Is this band still on your own?
M: 目前,NecroFlagelo完全是我自己的创造,是在孤立中锻造的。然而如果瘟疫必须被带到舞台上——如果有足够扭曲的灵魂来作证——那么是的,我会考虑邀请其他人现场表演礼拜仪式。不是乐队成员,而是管道。肉携带声音。如果人群中存在饥饿感,仪式就会显现出来。
For now, NecroFlagelo is entirely my own creation, forged in isolation. However, if the time comes when the plague must be brought to the stage - and if there are souls twisted enough to bear witness - then yes, I would consider summoning others to perform the liturgy live. Not as bandmates, but as conduits. Flesh to carry the sound. If the hunger from the crowd exists, the ritual will manifest.

Can you describe the creative process of this band?
M: “Liturgia do Apocalipse”背后的创作过程是纯粹的混乱——未经过滤、原始和暴力。没有结构,没有方法。有些歌曲是从吉他中诞生的,有些是从低音线中出现的,感觉就像埋在瓦砾下的心跳,还有一些是从鼓声开始的——不稳定的、部落的、末日般的节奏,在其他任何东西存在之前就决定了气氛。唯一不变的是混乱。整个器乐作曲和录音都是在一周内完成的——就像世界正在崩溃,我必须在它变成尘埃之前记录下来。声音应该是最后一个。它不需要从头脑中出现,而是从伤口中出现。这又花了五天时间,对着虚空尖叫,直到虚空尖叫起来。结果不是抛光的,而是被附身的。
The creative process behind Liturgia do Apocalipse was pure chaos - unfiltered, raw, and violent. There was no structure, no method. Some songs were born from the guitar, others emerged from a bassline that felt like a heartbeat buried beneath rubble, and a few began with the drums - erratic, tribal, apocalyptic rhythms that dictated the atmosphere before anything else existed. The only constant was disorder. The entire instrumental composition and recording were done in a single week - it was like the world was collapsing and I had to document it before it turned to dust. The voice came last, as it should. It needed to emerge not from the mind, but from the wound. That took five more days, screaming into the void until the void screamed back. The result isn’t polished, it’s possessed.

The recording of this album is excellent, did you still record the album in your own studio? Or did you produce the album yourself?
M: “Liturgia do Apocalipse”的每一个片段都是在我自己的圣所里伪造的——我称之为工作室的一个破旧的小房间,墙壁湿漉漉的,光线永远不会长时间亮着。我自己录制、混音和制作了整张专辑。没有外部的手接触到这场瘟疫。我想完全控制声音——不仅仅是雕刻它,而是让它在我手中腐烂,直到听起来像是末日,装备是适度的,但重要的是意图,我的纯粹是亵渎。每一个扭曲,每一层污垢,每一次呼吸都被精心地放置,听起来像是土壤下古老的觉醒。我不想要清晰度——我想要重量、腐烂和氛围。
Every fragment of Liturgia do Apocalipse was forged in my own sanctum - a small, decrepit room I call a studio, where the walls bleed damp and the light never stays on for long. I recorded, mixed, and produced the entire album myself. No external hands touched this plague. I wanted full control over the sound - not just to sculpt it, but to let it rot in my hands until it sounded like the end of days. The gear is modest, but what matters is the intent, and mine was pure desecration. Every distortion, every layer of filth, every breath was meticulously placed to sound like something ancient awakening beneath the soil. I didn’t want clarity - I wanted weight, decay, and atmosphere.

This band has a beautiful logo design. Did you design this logo yourself? The artwork for the album is also beautiful. Did you design the artwork yourself?
M: 是的,Logo和艺术品都是我亲手制作的或者更确切地说,是我的头脑通过机器过滤,然后用火雕刻而成的。这个过程始于通过人工智能生成的原始、混乱的草图——我所携带的视觉的原始回声。从那里,我把这些最初的片段放入Photoshop中,在那里我一层一层地对它们进行了改进。这个Logo的形状像一个印记,感觉就像是从一个被禁止的污垢中出土的东西。这件艺术品遵循了类似的路径,颜色扭曲,纹理腐蚀并添加了数十种微妙的元素来赋予它深度和折磨。血迹斑斑的天空,神秘的符号,腐烂的轮廓……一切都是精心建造的,以反映声音:启示录、神话和腐烂。这不仅仅是一个封面,也是一扇了解瘟疫的窗户。
Yes, both the logo and the artwork were born from my hands, or rather, from my mind filtered through machines and then carved by fire. The process began with raw, chaotic sketches generated through AI - primitive echoes of the vision I carried. From there, I took those initial fragments and plunged them into Photoshop, where I refined them layer by layer. The logo was shaped like a sigil, meant to feel like something unearthed from a forbidden grimoire. The artwork followed a similar path, colors twisted, textures corroded, and dozens of subtle elements added to give it depth and torment. Blood-soaked skies, cryptic symbols, decaying silhouettes… everything was meticulously built to reflect the sound: apocalyptic, mythic, and rotting. It’s not just a cover, it’s a window into the plague.

On an album or on your own label?

Liturgia do Apocalipse was released digitally through Supergoat WreckWhordes / Studios13, a label I own and operate. Much like most of my projects, this one found its home there, a space where I have complete control over the darkness I create. It’s a label built on freedom, chaos, and a refusal to conform to industry standards. It allows me to push boundaries, to release whatever twisted creation I forge, without anyone questioning the madness. The album was released with no compromise, as it should be.

What is the musical theme of the album? Why did you choose such a musical theme and what do you want to express through such a musical theme? You composed the lyrics section, what inspired these lyrics?
M: “Liturgia do Apocalipse”的主题围绕着腐朽、毁灭和永恒的痛苦循环的必然性。这不仅仅是关于世界末日,也是关于定义存在的永无止境的崩溃螺旋。Black, Thrash和Death Metal的结合使音乐能够传达伴随这种愿景的原始侵略、混乱和虚无主义。我希望声音能给人一种无情的感觉,就像一股不可阻挡的力量吞噬一切,而这些流派最能捕捉到那种末日般的恐惧感。至于歌词,我选择用我的母语葡萄牙语写作和唱歌,因为它增加了一种其他语言无法达到的强度和发自内心的原始感。在我的语言中,单词的流动方式有一种原始而残酷的感觉,我希望表达方式能与主题的暴力和痛苦相匹配。用葡萄牙语唱歌给了这张专辑更直接、更发自内心的能量,一种更个人化、更真实的愤怒和绝望感。歌词的灵感来自古代神话、大自然的破坏力和我自己对生活黑暗真相的沉思。我试图表达一种深刻的徒劳感,一种没有尽头的痛苦感以及人类陷入永久衰败状态的残酷现实。这些主题一直困扰着我,我想把这种恐惧转化为有形的东西。每首歌都描绘了人类痛苦的不同层面,从战争的残酷到存在的空虚,语言感觉就像是放大黑暗的完美媒介。
The theme of Liturgia do Apocalipse revolves around the inevitability of decay, destruction, and the eternal cycle of suffering. It’s not just about the end of the world, it’s about the never-ending spiral of collapse that defines existence. The combination of black, thrash, and death metal allows the music to convey the raw aggression, chaos, and nihilism that accompany such a vision. I wanted the sound to feel relentless, like an unstoppable force consuming everything, and these genres best captured that sense of apocalyptic dread. As for the lyrics, I chose to write and sing in my native language, Portuguese, because it added a level of intensity and visceral rawness that couldn’t have been achieved in any other tongue. There’s something primal and brutal about the way words flow in my language, and I wanted the delivery to match the violence and anguish of the themes. Singing in Portuguese gave the album a much more direct, heartfelt energy, a sense of fury and despair that feels more personal and real. The inspiration for the lyrics came from a mix of ancient mythologies, the destructive forces of nature, and my own contemplation of life's darker truths. I sought to express a profound sense of futility, of suffering that has no end, and the harsh reality that humanity is caught in a perpetual state of decay. These are themes that have always haunted me, and I wanted to channel that dread into something tangible. Each song paints a different layer of human anguish, from the brutality of war to the existential void, and the language felt like the perfect medium to amplify that darkness.

It's a very extreme piece of work, full of Black / Thrash / Death Metal elements, evil icy vibes, vintage riffs full of power and brutality, and your vocals are very evil, what do you think of your work?

I see Liturgia do Apocalipse as a true reflection of the chaos that dwells within me. It’s dark, brutal, and unapologetically extreme. The blending of Black, Thrash, and Death Metal was necessary to convey the kind of raw, unrelenting energy I wanted. I wanted it to sound like a storm, like an avalanche of sound crashing down on the listener, something that pulls you into the abyss and doesn’t let go. The vintage riffs are there as a tribute to the old-school spirit of metal, but with an updated ferocity that pushes everything to the extreme. The vocals are definitely a key part of that evil atmosphere. I wanted them to feel like an invocation of dark forces, something that feels not just angry, but almost inhuman. There’s a certain icy, sinister quality to the delivery that matches the themes of death, decay, and ruin. The goal was never to simply make music, but to create an experience, a ritual. In terms of my work, I’m deeply satisfied. This album isn’t for everyone, it’s brutal, it’s confrontational, and it’s harsh. But for what it is, it’s exactly the kind of cathartic release I wanted to capture. It’s a sonic embodiment of the darkness that defines us all.

Is there anything new this band is going to be working on in the next little while?

Yes, at the moment, I’m working on something a bit different. I’m currently filming and producing a playthrough where I’m playing all the instruments myself. The idea is to show the audience how the sound of each instrument comes together and how the music evolves as I add or remove elements from the mix. It’s a behind-the-scenes look at how the compositions come to life, and it allows people to hear the individual layers that make up the full sound of the album. It’s an exciting project because it gives a deeper insight into the creative process and lets fans experience the music in a new way. I’m really looking forward to sharing it soon!
