今天采访到的是来自瑞典的Technical Death Metal乐队Retromorphosis，2020年成立的Retromorphosis乐队虽然是一支很年轻的乐队，但是乐队的成员都是经验丰富的音乐家或者说Spawn of Possession乐队的重生，乐队的·大部分成员都是来自Spawn of Possession乐队，如果说你了解，喜欢Spawn of Possession这支乐队的话，那么Retromorphosis今年刚刚发布的这张“Psalmus Mortis”一定会给你很大的惊喜，阴森恐怖的氛围，有一些段落并不是很复杂，但是并没有失去Technical Death Metal的特点，首先这张专辑在技术性方面给人留下了深刻印象，这也是人们对Technical Death Metal专辑的首要期待。通过复杂的旋律和低音、激烈的鼓点和高难度的独奏，Retromorphosis的成员们几乎可以毫不费力地展示他们的音乐水平。乐队的作曲、配器和编曲与技术一样精妙，结构变幻莫测，对哪些时刻最激烈、哪些时刻最简单有很强的判断力，制作是“Psalmus Mortis”的另一个亮点。尽管该唱片追随现代潮流，尽可能地提高音量，但一切都非常清晰。贝斯的音色非常悦耳动听，与吉他相得益彰。虽然Retromorphosis的作品与Spawn of Possession时期的作品相比较有一定变化，但是“Psalmus Mortis”这张专辑绝对是2025年最出色的Technical Death Metal专辑，在新专辑发行之际杂志也与Retromorphosis乐队取得联系进行了一次专访！

Today's interview is with Sweden's Technical Death Metal band Retromorphosis. Formed in 2020, Retromorphosis is a very young band, but the band is made up of experienced musicians or Spawn of Possession reborn, and most of the members are from Spawn of Possession, if you know and like the band, then Retromorphosis just released this year's “Psalmus Mortis” of the members of Retromorphosis are from Spawn of Possession, and if you know and love Spawn of Possession, then Retromorphosis' “Psalmus Mortis”, released this year, is sure to be a big surprise. The eerie atmosphere, some passages are not very complex, but the character of Technical Death Metal is not lost, first of all the album impresses with the technicality, which is the first thing one expects from a Technical Death Metal album. Through intricate melodies and basslines, intense drumming and difficult solos, the members of Retromorphosis are able to showcase their musicianship almost effortlessly. The band's compositions, orchestrations and arrangements are as subtle as they are technical, with unpredictable structures and a strong sense of which moments are the most intense and which are the simplest, and the production is another highlight of “Psalmus Mortis”. Despite the fact that the record follows the modern trend of raising the volume as much as possible, everything is very clear. The bass has a very pleasant tone that complements the guitars. Although Retromorphosis' work has changed somewhat from the Spawn of Possession period, “Psalmus Mortis” is definitely the best Technical Death Metal album of 2025. On the occasion of the release of the new album, the magazine got in touch with Retromorphosis for an interview!

Hello brother nice to meet you and thank you very much for participating in this interview, I think this is the first time your band has been interviewed by a Chinese magazine, first of all say hello to all the Chinese fans, what year did Retromorphosis form and how did you form the band?
J: 你好！是的，我不记得我们以前接受过中国杂志的采访，所以这可能是对的。我决定在2019年下半年写一张专辑，然后在2020年正式成立乐队。我问Dennis是否有兴趣做主唱，他答应了。不久之后，KC、Erlend和Christian joined也加入了乐队。因此这基本上就是我们在 SOP时的阵容。因为我们已经互相认识，所以一切都很顺利。
Hello! Yes, I can't remember us being interviewed by a Chinese mag before, so that's probably right. I decided to write an album in maybe late 2019 and in 2020 I made it official. I asked Dennis if he would be interested in doing vocals, and he was, and soon after that KC, Erlend, and Christian joined. So it is basically the same line-up we had in SOP. It went smoothly since we already knew each other and so on.

Your band is made up of members from your previous band Spawn of Possession, you know each other very well and I think that makes it easier when it comes to songwriting because you know each other and what you want to create, can you describe your songwriting process?

I wrote the songs on my own this time around, so the songs were already complete when they joined, but they had to add their stuff to the songs. Dennis wrote all the lyrics and vocal patterns, Christian did his solos, and Erlend used my basslines and added his ideas to them, the same with KC on the drums.

I've just sampled your new songs on the bandcamp website and it's very impressive in terms of recording, what studio did you record the album in? Which producer made the album for you? Is the recording process for the new album going well?
J: 我们在录制Spawn of Possession的所有专辑时，都是在同一个制作人和同一个录音棚完成的，他就是帕马录音棚的Mankan Sedenberg。因为我们彼此都很熟悉，所以合作起来没有问题，录音也很顺利。由于使用了大量合成器，混音过程有点麻烦，但我们一路都在想办法解决。不过下次我可能会少用一点，因为混音太耗时了。
We went to the same producer and studio we had on all Spawn of Possession albums, Mankan Sedenberg at Pama Studios. And since we already know each other well it was no problem working together, the recording went well, it was a little bit tricky to mix it due to all the synthesizers, but we figured that out along the way. But next time I might use a little bit less of that since it's so time-consuming to mix.
V: 你们乐队的Logo非常漂亮，是谁为你们设计的Logo？新专辑的封面非常独特，是谁为你们设计的封面？
Your band's logo is very beautiful, who designed the logo for you and the artwork for the new album is very unique, who designed the artwork for you?

Thanks! I designed the logo and the cover art was done by Arif Septian (Poisondust) he based it on my idea about a man escaping death. I found him on Instagram I believe. I was looking for an artist who could work with very few colors and still make detailed artwork. I wanted something that looked a little bit rougher than the usual Death Metal covers which very often look very colorful, detailed, and smooth. Those types of covers are very common so I knew we needed to have something slightly different.

Your new album is on Season of Mist, which is a great label, how did you get in touch with the label to collaborate? Are you happy with the label's work?
J: 我是通过Ophidian I的Ragnar介绍认识Season of Mist的老板的，然后我把试听的专辑寄给了他，我们就签约了。这家唱片公司很不错，人脉很广，对所有事情都很有帮助。
I was introduced to the boss at Season of Mist by Ragnar from Ophidian I, and I sent the demoed album to him and we got signed. The label has been great, very good contacts and they are very helpful with everything.
V: 你们的音乐主题是什么，为什么选择这个主题，想通过它表达什么？你写过歌词吗？
What is your musical theme about, why did you choose it, and what do you want to express through it? Did you write any lyrics and who wrote them?
J: 所有的歌词都是Dennis写的，其中一些是根据我的想法写的。这是一些短小的恐怖故事，用来隐喻我在2019-2021年经历的一段非常糟糕的时期。那段时间压力很大，问题很多，有时我觉得自己快要疯了。但事情最终还是好转了。
Dennis wrote all the lyrics, some of them are based on my ideas. It's short horror stories that work as metaphors for a really bad period I had in 2019-2021. A lot of stress and problem-solving during that period and sometimes I thought I was about to lose my mind. But things got better eventually.

First of all, congratulations on the release of your band's latest album “Psalmus Mortis” this year, it's a high level of work, complex, fast, continuous riffs, which show the guitarist's skill, and the drummer's performance is very stable, and the fast, steady hits are the biggest highlights of the work, and your work reminds me of a lot. I'm reminded of Spawn of Possession, what do you think of your work?
J: 谢谢，是的，我知道它有时会让我想起SOP，这是我的创作和演奏风格以及其他成员的表演方式造成的。SOP和Retromorphosis之间的区别在于，Retromorphosis的技术含量较低，主要是基于Oldf School Death Metal的氛围。为此我们将乐器的音量调低到了A。与SOP相比Retromorphosis更黑暗、更动感、更多变。复古并不依赖于在任何时候都表现出超级紧张和技术性，而是更注重情绪和氛围。
Thanks, yes I know it sometimes reminds me of SOP, and that's due to my writing and playing style and all the other member's ways of performing. The difference between SOP and Retromorphosis is that Retro is less technical and it's mostly based on the old-school Death Metal vibe. And we tuned down the instruments even more for this, to A. Which makes it sound much darker. It's darker, groovier, and more varied than SOP. Retro doesn't rely on being super intense and technical at all times, its more about mood and atmosphere.
V: 在发行新专辑后，你们还会有什么新的工作要进行？你会参加任何节日演出吗？可以透露给人们吗？你将来会接受邀请来中国为中国球迷表演吗？
What are some of the other things you're working on after the release of the new album? Will there be any festival appearances that you can reveal to people? Would you accept an invitation to come to China to play for Chinese fans in the future?
J: 关于现场演出，我们还得再等等看，因为我们生活在不同的国家，所以必须提前计划好。
当然为什么不在中国演出呢？我的主要任务是尽快重新开始写作。
We have to wait and see about playing live, that is something that has to be planned way ahead since we live in different countries and so on. Yeah sure, why not play in China? My main focus is to start writing again as soon as possible.
V: 虽然你们是一支非常年轻的乐队，但你们已经是一支非常成熟的乐队，我会一直支持你们，我也希望通过这次演出让更多的中国歌迷关注、支持你们的乐队，最后你有什么话想对中国的歌迷朋友们说吗？
Although you are a very young band, but you have been a very mature band, I will always support, pay attention to your band I also hope that through this only let more Chinese fans to pay attention to, support your band, in the end you have what you would like to say to Chinese fans friends?
