The band we interviewed today is Hangover in Minsk from Poland. This band is also a side project of the doom metal band Dymna Lotva. Hangover in Minsk was formed after a performance. After that, the band began recording, releasing albums and going on tour. The band's debut album "Party is Over" was also very popular among a large number of depressed black metal fans. Today, we have also invited the band's main creator for an exclusive interview.

Hello Hangover in Minsk, thank you for accepting this interview. Before we begin, could you please briefly introduce yourselves? You are all members of Dymna Lotva, so how did this project (Hangover in Minsk) come into being? Does its musical philosophy differ from that of Dymna Lotva?

H: 你好，Nokt（主唱）和Jauhien（创作）都在Dymna Lotva 和Hangover in Minsk。那天晚上我们全喝醉了，正从慕尼黑的Dark Easter Metal Meeting音乐节开车回去。然后我们玩笑般地提出了“Hangover in Minsk”的想法。之后我们就创作，录音然后发行了一张专辑。至于理论呢，确实，它确实和Dymna Lotva所传递的信息是不一样的，它比Dymna Lotva要简单一些，没有任何复杂的历史背景，没有复杂的旋律和编排，像酒会上的简单的音乐一样。

Hi. Nokt (vocalist) and Jauhien (composer) for the bands Dymna Lotva and Hangover in Minsk. We were driving back from the Dark Easter Metal Meeting festival in Munich with a hangover. As a joke, we came up with the Hangover in Minsk project. Then we wrote, recorded, and released an album. As for philosophy, yes, it's different music with a different message. Simpler than Dymna Lotva. Without any complex historical background. No complex melodies or arrangements. Simple music for drinking parties.

V: 我们来谈谈你的新专辑吧，这张专辑的封面很简约，仅仅是一个打碎的酒瓶子，那么你为什么选择这个封面呢？它在某种程度上象征着什么吗？

Let's start with your new album. The album cover is quite minimalist—just a shattered wine glass. Why did you choose this as the cover? Does it symbolize something to a certain extent?

H: 这不仅仅是一块碎了的酒杯，而是一块心形的玻璃杯，上面有红色的葡萄藤，被子弹击碎了。我们认为这张图片非常契合专辑的概念和歌词。没错，它看起来简约，但制作起来并不容易。我们不想用颜料绘制，也不想用3D生成或人工智能。所以一切都是真实的。子弹、葡萄藤和手工玻璃杯。老实说，这是我们十多年来最昂贵的专辑封面设计。我们迫不及待地想用它制作黑胶唱片，CD格式太小，无法展示所有细节。

It’s not just a shattered wine glass. It’s an anatomic heart-shaped glass with red vine, which was shot by a bullet. We think that this image really fits the album concept and lyrics. Yes, it looks minimalistic, but it was not so easy to make. We didn’t want to paint it or use 3D generation or AI. All was real. The bullet, the vine, and the handmade glass. Honestly, it is the most expensive cover artwork during our 10+ years of career. We can’t wait to make vinyls with it, the CD format is too small to show all the details.

V: 你能否谈谈这张专辑歌词背后的灵感？这张专辑是在讲述某种故事吗？能否给我们举些例子详细说明一下？

Could you talk about the inspiration behind the album's lyrics? Is this album telling some kind of stories? Could you give us examples to elaborate?

H: 是的，这些歌词都是基于个人经历创作的。大多源自我们主唱的生活。比如，"Till soberness do us part"讲述的是在葬礼过后她喝得烂醉，竟看到了已故亲人的幻影。"Drunk&Beautiful"则是关于她年轻时的Crush，他不喜欢她，但喝醉时却常常亲她。"The cow was stolen from the bar"则是关于我们最喜欢的酒吧，我们乐队在Minsk生活时，常在那里相聚。

yeah, the lyrics are based on personal stories. Mostly from our singer’s life. For example, ‘Till soberness do us part’ is about drinking so hard after the funeral that she saw hallucinations with the close person who was dead. ‘Drunk&Beautiful’ is about her young years crush who didn’t like her as a woman but often kissed her when they were drunk.‘The cow was stolen from the bar’ is about our favourite bar, where our whole band loved to gather when we lived in Minsk.

V: 你邀请了两位著名的Black Metal音乐家Kim Carlsson和Deha为这张专辑录制一些人声。是什么让你想到邀请这两位嘉宾参与录制？

You invited two famous black metal musicians, Kim Carlsson and Déhà, to record some vocals for this album. What made you think of inviting these two guests to participate in the recording?

H: 我们已经提前计划了给一些嘉宾留一部分人声，而Kim和Deha帮助我们很好地实现了这点。他们是我们的朋友。我们知道他们是很棒的歌手，不好好用一用是一种罪过。

We had planned tracks for guests in advance. Kim and Deha helped us make them happen. They're our friends. We know they're great singers. It would be a sin not to take advantage of that.

V: 你的音乐总是传达出一种绝望的压迫感。你能分享一下你是如何创作音乐的吗？你认为它在某种程度上继承了Dymna Lotva的音乐风格吗？

Your music always conveys a sense of desperate oppression. Could you share how you create your music? Do you think it inherits the musical style of Dymna Lotva to some degree?

H: 我们不能说HiM的音乐直接继承了Dymna Lotva的风格，这毕竟事不同的音乐。但要完全避免某些风格上的细微差别是不可能的，因为它们都是由同一个人完成的。一般来说，在HIM和DL中编写音乐的方法都是相同的。Jauhien来编写并制作Demo。后来，Nokt写了歌词和人声。在那之后，一切都定稿了，然后就是——歌曲弄好了。

We cannot say that the music directly inherited the style of Dymna Lotva. It's different music. But it's impossible to completely avoid certain stylistic nuances, considering that it's all done by the same people. As a rule, the method of writing music in both HIM and DL is the same. Jauhien writes tracks and makes demos. Later, Nokt writes lyrics and vocals. After that, everything is finalized, and voilà - the track is ready.

V: 你的音乐让我想起了著名的Black Metal乐队Psychonaut 4。你认为你的音乐是否受到了 Psychonaut 4的影响？你能推荐一些你也喜欢的乐队吗？

Your music reminds me of the famous black metal band Psychonaut 4. Do you think your music has been influenced by Psychonaut 4 in any way? Could you recommend some bands that you also enjoy?

H: 我们不能说有哪支乐队对我们产生了影响。我们很清楚自己会遵循一种接近标准的DSBM的风格。这是一个相当狭窄的音乐类型，在这个类型里，每个人都会对其他人产生影响。如果我们开始试图去弄清楚谁影响了谁，可能会搞得一团糟。但我们很喜欢Psychonaut 4。他们是我们的老朋友，我们还一起参加过很多场演出。至于推荐的话，在 DSBM 的范畴内，我们可以推荐一些经典作品，比如Nocturnal Depression, Lifelover和Silencer。

We can't say that any bands have influenced us. We had a clear understanding that we would be doing something close to standard DSBM. And that's a fairly narrow genre in which everyone has already influenced everyone else. If we start trying to figure out who influenced whom, we could go crazy. But we love Psychonaut 4. They are our old friends. And we have played many concerts together with them. As for recommendations, within the context of DSBM, we can recommend classics such as Nocturnal Depression, Lifelover, and Silencer.

V: 我注意到你今年参加了很多演出。你能分享一下你的感受吗？当你从Dymna Lotva转向Hangover in Minsk的时候，你有没有感觉到不和谐？

I noticed you've played numerous shows this year. Could you share your feelings about that? Did you feel any sense of incompatibility when transitioning from Dymna Lotva to Hangover in Minsk?

H: 完全没有问题。唯一需要注意的是，我们尽量不在同一晚同时演这两个乐队。可以说，Hangover in Minsk比Dymna Lotva要有趣得多。节奏更快，动作更多。有时甚至会有各种疯狂的情节。但Dymna Lotva在情感表达上要深刻得多。它是一个严肃的音乐，能让人感动落泪。我们可以说，这两个乐队完全是不同的音乐。这很好。多样性的内容让我们不会感到厌倦。

Absolutely no problems or incompatibilities. The only thing is, we try not to play both shows on the same night. We can say that Hangover in Minsk is more fun to play than Dymna Lotva. Faster music, lots of action. Sometimes even all sorts of crazy stuff. But the show Dymna Lotva is much deeper in terms of emotions. It is a serious show that makes people cry. We can say that these are completely different shows. And that's great. Variety keeps us from getting bored.

V: 你对乐队未来的发展有什么想法？明年你会有更多的演出吗？

What are your thoughts on the band's future development? Will you be playing more shows next year?

H: 我们已经在 2026 年 1 月安排的演出比 2025 年全年都要多。所以，没错。我们会举办更多的演出，并且让我们的演出更加精彩。同时，我们还会着手制作一张新专辑。

We already have more concerts planned for January 2026 than for the whole of 2025. So yes. We will play concerts and make our shows even better. And at the same time, we will work on a new album.
