Today we’re interviewing Elisirius, a young band from France. The band was originally formed in 2021 by musician Steve Skies, who wrote all the songs himself and established the band’s melodic atmospheric black metal style. In 2023, as Steve continued to meet musicians who shared his artistic vision, Elisirius gradually evolved into a full-fledged band. In 2024, Elisirius released their debut EP, At the End of the Age of the Common Man. This half-hour EP not only showcases Elisirius’s exceptional songwriting but also demonstrates the band’s mature production standards. The band has maintained a steady creative pace, continuously refining new material. In late 2026, Elisirius will release their debut full-length album. The magazine conducted an exclusive interview with the band’s founder, Steve Skies, about the band’s creative process and their upcoming release.

Hello brother, nice to meet you and thank you very much for participating in this interview. I think this is the first time your band has been interviewed by a Chinese magazine? First of all, let me say hello to all Chinese fans. Elisirius band was founded in 2021 and is a very young band. How did you form this band in the first place?

S: 你好！很高兴见到你，我们很荣幸能第一次接受中国杂志的采访。我们也向在中国的所有听众致以问候，感谢你们的支持。是的，Elisirius仍然是一个年轻的乐队。实际上，我在2021年自己开始了这个项目，起初更多的是作为个人创意渠道。我在写音乐，塑造乐队的身份，试图建立一种对我来说诚实而感性的声音。然后在2023年，我开始遇到其他真正与这一愿景联系在一起的音乐家。我们很快意识到，我们有着相似的影响，也有着共同创造有意义事物的愿望。就在那时，Elisirius真正成为了一个完整的乐队。

Hello! It’s a pleasure to meet you, and we’re really honored to be doing our first interview with a Chinese magazine. We’d also like to send our greetings to all the listeners in China—thank you for your support. Yes, Elisirius is still a young band. I actually started the project myself in 2021, at first more as a personal creative outlet. I was writing music and shaping the identity of the band, trying to build a sound that felt honest and emotional to me. Then in 2023, I began to meet other musicians who really connected with that vision. We quickly realized that we shared similar influences and the same desire to create something meaningful together. That’s when Elisirius truly became a full band.

V: 你的乐队现在只有一个第一代成员Steve Skies，所有其他成员都已被替换。为什么第一代成员离开了乐队？新成员是怎么加入乐队的？你对新成员的工作满意吗？

Your band now only has one first generation member, Steve Skies, and all other members have been replaced. Why did the first generation member leave the band? How did the new members join the band? Are you satisfied with the new member's job?

S: 这个问题问得好。从一开始，Elisirius实际上是我在2021年开始的一个个人项目，所以传统意义上并没有一个固定的“第一代”阵容。在早期阶段，我独自工作，塑造项目的音乐身份。2023年，我开始引入其他音乐家。我通过音乐界和人脉认识了他们，最重要的是找到真正理解Elisirius背后愿景的人。这不仅仅是技术技能，还有感觉和化学反应。从那时起，乐队就成为了一个真正的集体。每个成员都带来了独特的东西，这有助于音乐以一种更有机、更强大的方式成长。我对事情的发展非常满意——目前的阵容感觉很强大，很有灵感并且与项目的方向保持一致。

That’s a good question. From the beginning, Elisirius was actually a solo project that I started in 2021, so there wasn’t really a fixed “first generation” lineup in the traditional sense. In the early phase, I was working alone and shaping the musical identity of the project. In 2023, I started to bring in other musicians. I met them through the music scene and through connections, and what mattered most was finding people who truly understood the vision behind Elisirius. It wasn’t just about technical skill, but about feeling and chemistry. Since then, the band has become a real collective. Each member brings something unique, and that has helped the music grow in a more organic and powerful way. I’m very satisfied with how things have developed—the current lineup feels strong, inspired, and aligned with the direction of the project.

V: 你能介绍一下你的创作过程吗？新成员给乐队带来了什么新的创作灵感？

Can you introduce your creative process? What new creative inspirations did the new member bring to the band?

S: 我基本上是乐队的唯一作曲者。我将音乐样带发送给每位成员，让他们先学习，然后来到录音室进行录制。我的灵感来源于我所居住的地区——该地区位于法国布列塔尼的“神话与传奇森林”（Broceliande Forest）附近。

I am basically the sole writer of the band. I send demos of the music to each member for them to learn and then come to the studio to record. My inspirations come from the area I live which is surrounded by the Mythic and legendary Forest of Broceliande in Britanny, France.

V: 你们乐队的专辑作品录音效果很好。你在哪个录音室录制了这张专辑？哪位制作人为你制作了这张专辑？

Your band's album works have excellent recording effects. Which studio did you record the album in? Which producer made the album for you?

S: 非常感谢，我们所有的音乐都是由我自己在Sirius Sound Studio制作和录制的。

Thank you very much, all of our music is Produced and recorded at Sirius Sound Studio, by myself.

V: 你的音乐主题是什么？你为什么选择了这个音乐主题？你希望通过这个音乐主题表达什么？你是否也创作了歌词？这些歌词是由谁创作的？是什么启发了他？

What is the theme of your music about? Why did you choose this music theme, what do you want to express through this music theme, and did you also create the lyrics? Who created these lyrics and what inspired them?

S: 所以我们的第一张EP"At the end of the age of the common man"并没有一个“主题”的前奏，而是一组我认为足够强大的歌曲，可以发行。我有一个硬盘，里面装满了至少3张完整专辑的歌曲。所有的歌词都是隐喻性的，意思是任何人都能找到适合自己的意义。除了"The Descent"，我想这是一个关于堕落天使的故事。我们将于2026年底发行的新专辑更像是一张概念专辑，主题更多地围绕着黑暗森林等..

So, baiscally our first EP "At the end of the age of the common man" doesnt hold a "theme" pre sé, but is a collection of songs that I thought were strong enough for a release. I have a harddrive full of songs for atleast 3 more full length albums. All the lyrics were written to be Metaphorical, meaning anyone and everyone can find some sort of meaning that suits them. Apart from aybe "The Descent" which is I suppose a story about a fallen angel. Our new album due out at the end of 2026 is more of a conceptual album and is themed more around the dark forests etc..

The logo design of your band is very simple, it doesn't seem like the logo of a black metal band to me. Who designed this logo for you? Why did you choose this design concept when all of your album artworks are based on natural photographs?

S: 是的，我完全同意。我为未发行曲目创作的第一幅艺术作品与"At the end of the age of the common man"的艺术作品截然不同，标志就是为此而设计的。在我从未考虑过更改它之后，它一直保留到第一个版本。我们已经为新专辑重新设计了它，如果你查看我们的社交媒体，你会看到一些宣传视频上漂浮着新的标志。

Yes, i totally agree. My first arworks for unreleased tracks were very different to the artwork of "At the end of the age of the common man" and the logo was designed for that. After i never thought about changing it and so it stayed for this first release. We have since redesigned it for the new album and if you check our socials you will see the new logo floating about on some promo videos.

V: 你们乐队的EP专辑是你们自己发行的数字版。你有没有考虑过与唱片公司合作发行实体专辑？你目前联系过任何制造商吗？

Your band's EP album is a digital version released by yourselves. Have you considered collaborating with a label to release a physical album? Have you contacted any manufacturers currently?

S: 所以，我们也有这张专辑的实体版本，可以在音乐会上购买，也可以在我们的Bandcamp页面和其他商品上购买。目前，我们选择独立发布音乐，因为它给了我们充分的创作自由并允许我们以一种非常个人化的方式构建Elisirius。由于该项目最初是独立的，因此继续朝着这个方向发展感觉很自然。当然，我们已经考虑过与唱片公司合作，如果有合适的机会，我们对此持开放态度。我们过去有过一些接触，但没有真正发展成真正的合作。对我们来说，重要的是找到真正理解我们愿景并尊重乐队艺术方向的合作伙伴。

So, we do also have physical versions of the album aswell which are available to buy at concerts and also from our Bandcamp page along with other merch. For now, we’ve chosen to release our music independently because it gives us full creative freedom and allows us to build Elisirius in a very personal way. Since the project started as something independent, it felt natural to continue in that direction. Of course, we have considered working with labels, and we’re open to it if the right opportunity comes. We’ve had some contact in the past, but nothing that truly developed into a real collaboration. For us, it’s important to find partners who genuinely understand our vision and respect the artistic direction of the band.

V: 首先，祝贺你的乐队在2024年发行了他们的第一张EP专辑。你的作品主要突出了氛围，但你没有使用键盘作为乐器来达到氛围的感觉。相反，你使用传统的吉他、贝斯和鼓来营造强烈的氛围。缓慢而沉重的重复段，以及歌手低沉而令人窒息的歌声都是你的特点。你对你的工作有什么看法？

First of all, congratulations to your band for releasing their first EP album in 2024. Your work mainly highlights the atmosphere, but you did not use keyboards as instruments to achieve the feeling of atmosphere. Instead, you used traditional guitars, bass, and drums to achieve a strong atmosphere. Slow, heavy riffs, and the singer's low and suffocating singing are all your characteristics. What is your opinion on your work?

S: 非常感谢你！是的，乐队中没有键盘手，但歌曲中有键盘部分。例如，"13 realms"和"Across The Expanse"一样非常注重合成，但是的，一切都是为了提出主要的乐器和人声而写的。我发现我们到目前为止的工作很好地代表了未来的发展和更多。我们的嗓音不是传统的“Black metal”，而是更混合了“Death”风格的咆哮，形成了鲜明的对比，希望我们能从其他乐队中脱颖而出。

Thank you very much! Yes we have no keyboardist in the band but there are keyboard parts in the songs. "13 realms" for example is very synth heavy as is "Across The Expanse", But yes everything is written to put forward the main instruments and vocals. I find our work so far is a good representation of whats to come and more. Our vocals are not traditional "Black metal" but a more mixed with "death" style growling which gives a great contrast and hopefully makes us stand out from other bands.

V: 你参加过哪些现场表演，哪些给你留下了深刻的印象？你能介绍一下当时现场表演的气氛吗？2026年有什么现场表演等着你？

What live performances have you participated in, and which ones left a deep impression on you? Can you introduce the atmosphere of the live performances at that time? What live performances are waiting for you in 2026?

S: 到目前为止，我们的现场表演很少，因为我们的风格很难融入我们所在的音乐界。但是，给我们留下深刻印象的必须是我们在“2024年萨敏节”上的第一场演出，支持腐烂的基督和博尔克纳加。我认为没有什么能比得上这样的顶级音乐会。到目前为止，我们已经预订了2026年4月的一场演出，但我们主要将在2026年底发行我们的专辑，并预订2027年的演出。

So far, live performances for us have been few as its difficult for our style to break into the music scene where we are. But, the one that did leave its impression on us has to be our First show which was at "Samaïn Fest 2024" supporting Rotting Christ and Borknagar. I dont think anything can top a premier concert like that. We have 1 show booked so far for 2026 in april but we are mainly going to be working on the release of our album at the end of 2026 and booking for 2027.

V: 2026年你有什么新工作要做？例如创作、录制新作品或发行全新专辑？你能和大家分享一些信息吗？

What new work do you have to do in 2026? For example, creating, recording new works, or releasing a brand new album? Can you share some information with everyone?

Well, as i think ive dropped enough hints so far we have a new album coming towards the end of 2026 called "And the Path Before Us..." and a first single that is hitting the waves on April 15th entitled "Branches Of The Soul". You are a very young band, but indeed a very promising band. I will always pay attention to and support your band. The interview is coming to an end. Do you have anything to say to your Chinese fans and friends at the end?
