昨天说到挪威作为Black Metal风格最重要的国家，就如同一个摇篮一样孕育了大量世界闻名的乐队，说到亚洲呢？其实在亚洲日本绝对是一个重要的国家，在日本摇滚，重金属文化非常丰富，同时在日本也有很多经典的Black Metal的乐队，如果这两个国家的音乐家结合在一起会碰撞出什么样子的火花？那么咱们今天就来介绍一支这两个国家成员组建的MorteMutta乐队，一支Symphonic Black Metal氛围的Black Metal乐队，组建于1999年的MorteMutta乐队绝对是一支非常有资历的乐队，2000年代录制了三张正式专辑并且在2007举办了唯一一场音乐会，然后便开始他们多年的沉寂时间，2026年乐队再次复苏并且发行了三首新的作品，MorteMutta的作品给人一种怪异扭曲的感觉，令人感到匪夷所思的旋律，加上键盘的使用，让他们的作品在氛围方面非常的突出，歌手的清澈干净高亢的嗓音加上邪恶的黑金属演唱方式，相互出现让我想起了Dimmu Borgir的作品，也让更多歌迷开始期待他们的新作品，新作品发行之际杂志与乐队取得联系进行了一次专访！

Yesterday, we discussed how Norway—the most pivotal nation for the Black Metal genre—served as a cradle for numerous world-renowned bands. But what about Asia? Japan is undeniably a key player in the region; the country boasts a rich rock and heavy metal culture and is home to many classic Black Metal acts. What kind of sparks might fly if musicians from these two nations joined forces? Today, we introduce MorteMutta, a band formed by members from both countries. A group characterized by a symphonic black metal atmosphere, MorteMutta is a seasoned act established back in 1999. They recorded three full-length albums during the 2000s and performed a solitary concert in 2007 before entering a long period of silence. The band re-emerged in 2026, releasing three new tracks. MorteMutta’s music evokes a sense of eerie distortion; their baffling melodies, combined with the use of keyboards, create a highly distinctive atmosphere. The vocalist’s ability to switch between clear, soaring tones and sinister black metal shrieks brings to mind the work of Dimmu Borgir, further heightening fan anticipation for their new material. To mark the release of these new tracks, we reached out to the band for an exclusive interview!

Hello there—it’s a pleasure to meet you, and thank you so much for taking part in this interview. I believe this is the first time your band has been interviewed by a Chinese magazine, so perhaps we could start by having you say hello to all your Chinese fans. MorteMutta was formed in 1999, making you a long-standing, veteran band; how did the band originally come together? And is there any specific meaning behind the name "MorteMutta"?

M: 向我们所有的中国听众和读者致以问候。很荣幸能首次在中国进行宣传。MorteMutta成立于1999年，是来自挪威和日本的两股创作力量的交汇。从一开始，这个项目就是围绕着北国风光、古老神话与日本民间传说之间的碰撞而构建的。MorteMutta这个名字代表着万物终结之所——情感的终结、时间的终结、空间的终结。宇宙自身向内坍缩，迎来最终时刻。当一切都消逝殆尽，唯有MorteMutta依然存在。在早期的岁月里，我们在2000年代录制了三张专辑，并于2007年进行过一次现场演出。在沉寂多年之后，MorteMutta再次苏醒。

Greetings to all our Chinese listeners and readers. It is an honor to be featured in China for the first time. MorteMutta was formed in 1999 as a meeting between two creative forces from Norway and Japan. From the beginning, the project was built around the collision between northern landscapes, ancient mythology and Japanese folklore. The name MorteMutta represents the place where everything ends. Feelings end. Time ends. Space ends. The universe itself folds in on itself and reaches its final moment. When everything else has disappeared, only MorteMutta remains. During the early years, we recorded three albums in the 2000s and performed live once in 2007. After many years of silence, MorteMutta awakened again.

V: 你们乐队只有两位成员，分别来自挪威和日本。你们是如何创作歌曲的？

Your band has only two members, and you come from different countries—Norway and Japan. How do you go about writing songs?

M: MorteMutta 的诞生源于两个世界的交融。挪威的元素带来了寒冷的风景、峡湾和古老的北方力量；日本的元素则带来了神话、传统以及对历史和混沌的另一种视角。音乐的创作是通过声音、即兴演奏、旋律和氛围的交流，最终融合为一体。这种世界间的对比是 MorteMutta 的基石，也是我们独具特色的峡湾金属乐的精髓所在。

MorteMutta is created through the meeting of two worlds. The Norwegian side brings the cold landscapes, fjords and ancient northern forces. The Japanese side brings mythology, tradition and another perspective on history and chaos. The music is created through an exchange of sounds, riffs, melodies and atmospheres until they become one expression. This contrast between worlds is the foundation of MorteMutta and our own form of Fjordmetall.

V: 你们今年发行了三首歌；都是在家录制的吗？能跟我们说说录制过程吗？

You released three songs this year; were they all recorded at home? Could you tell us a bit about the recording process?

M: MorteMutta 的新时代至今已发行了四张作品："進軍 (Shingun)"、"To Tusen Aldre"、"死まんこ (Shimanko)"和"På Markene"。这些录音是在各种不同的环境中完成的。有些声音是在幽暗的森林里录制的，有些是在阴冷的地下室里录制的，还有一些是在录音棚里录制的。录音地点本身就成为了氛围的一部分。我们追求的不仅仅是完美的录音，而是合适的感觉。"Fjordmetall"是由对比构成的：寒冷的风景、极端金属、传统元素和电影般的黑暗。

The new era of MorteMutta consists of four releases so far: 進軍 (Shingun), To Tusen Aldre, 死まんこ (Shimanko), and På Markene. The recordings were created in many different environments. Some sounds were captured in dark forests, some in cold basements, and some in studio environments. The location itself becomes part of the atmosphere. We do not search only for perfect recordings, but for the right feeling. Fjordmetall is built from contrasts: cold landscapes, extreme metal, traditional influences and cinematic darkness.

V: 你们乐队成立于1999年，但今年只发行了三张单曲；为什么新作品发行间隔这么长？

Your band was formed in 1999, yet you only released three singles this year; what is the reason for such a long gap before releasing new material?

M: MorteMutta早在现在的作品发行之前就已经存在了。在2000年代，我们录制了三张专辑，并在2007年举办了唯一一场现场演出。之后，大部分早期作品都消失了，MorteMutta的两位创作核心成员也各自发展了一段时间。这次回归并非简单的延续，而是一次重生。新时代的首张作品《進軍 (Shingun)》讲述了从坟墓中苏醒的故事。

MorteMutta existed long before the current releases. During the 2000s, we recorded three albums and performed our only live show in 2007. After that, much of the original material disappeared, and the two creative forces behind MorteMutta walked separate paths for a period. The return was not planned as a simple continuation, but as a rebirth. The first release of this new era, 進軍 (Shingun), tells the story of awakening from the grave.

V: 你们乐队的标志设计得非常精美是谁设计的？专辑封面也很漂亮，又是谁设计的？

Your band's logo is beautifully designed who created it for you? The album artwork is also beautiful; who designed it?

M: 视觉识别是 MorteMutta 的重要组成部分。标志和最初的草图均在 MorteMutta 的世界观中创作而成。之后，它们经过数字化处理，最终呈现出完整的艺术作品。音乐、视觉效果和神话传说紧密相连，它们是同一个故事的不同篇章。

The visual identity is an essential part of MorteMutta. The logo and original sketches were created within the MorteMutta universe. They were then digitally enhanced and transformed into the final artwork. The music, visuals and mythology are all connected. They are different pieces of the same story.

V: 您目前是否与任何唱片公司洽谈合作发行未来作品的CD版本？

Are you currently in contact with any labels regarding a partnership to release CD versions of future works?

M: 我们正在探索各种实体发行的可能性。黑胶唱片对于MorteMutta来说非常合适，因为唱片封面和整体氛围都是体验的重要组成部分。我们的目标是找到能够理解我们项目理念的合适合作伙伴。

We are exploring different possibilities regarding physical releases. Vinyl would be a very fitting format for MorteMutta, as the artwork and complete atmosphere are important parts of the experience. Our goal is to find the right partner who understands the vision behind the project.

V: 你的音乐以北欧和日本神话以及宇宙毁灭等主题为中心。你为什么选择这些主题？你想通过它们表达什么？你的音乐中包含歌词吗？歌词是谁写的？创作灵感是什么？

Your music focuses on themes like Norse and Japanese mythology and the annihilation of the universe. Why did you choose these themes, and what do you aim to express through them? Do you include lyrics in your music? Who wrote them, and what was the inspiration behind them?

M: 当北欧和日本的文化、历史和神话相遇时，便会创造出独一无二的作品。一种无法用其他方式存在的魔力油然而生。MorteMutta 就存在于这两个世界之间。毁灭和万物终结的主题源于唯一确定的真理：万物终将走向终结。文明消亡，记忆褪色，星辰陨落，甚至宇宙本身也有终结。歌词是来自更大谜团的碎片、象征和回响。它们旨在被体验，而非被解释。

When Nordic and Japanese culture, history and mythology meet, something unique is created. A kind of magic appears that cannot exist in any other way. MorteMutta exists between these worlds. The themes of destruction and the end of everything come from the only certainty that exists: everything eventually reaches its final moment. Civilizations disappear. Memories fade. Stars die. Even the universe itself has an ending. The lyrics are fragments, symbols and echoes from a larger mystery. They are meant to be experienced rather than explained.

V: 你们的作品气势恢宏，氛围营造得精妙绝伦——黑暗、冷峻、史诗般壮阔。编曲也经过精心考量；人们能真切感受到你们为这三首单曲倾注的心血。能否分享一下你们对这些曲目的看法？

Your work has a truly epic feel, with an atmosphere that is brilliantly crafted—dark, cold, epic, and grand. The arrangements are also meticulously considered; one can really sense the dedication you both poured into these three singles. Could you share your thoughts on these tracks?

M: MorteMutta 的作品不仅仅是歌曲，它们构成了一个宏大世界的一部分。完整的歌词永远不会公之于众，因为文字只是叙事的一环；作品的深意还蕴含在声音、氛围、旋律、艺术设计与视觉元素之中。这里没有标准答案，听众通过串联种种碎片，也成为了创作过程的一部分。

進軍 (Shingun) —— 这是一次觉醒。古老的力量从 Eijefjorden 的深处与日本的崇山峻岭间苏醒，向着那不可避免的终局进发。

To Tusen Aldre —— 一首关于漫长沉睡的歌。讲述了被追猎、掩埋与遗忘的经历，以及在黑暗中静候复仇与报应时刻到来的心境。

死まんこ (Shimanko) —— 一个黑暗的民间传说，讲述了一名女子因被指为女巫而遭放逐的遭遇。她遁入古老的森林，归来时已化身为某种更为古老、更为黑暗的存在。该曲汲取了挪威与日本民间传说的灵感，探讨了背叛、复仇以及森林那永无止境的饥渴。

På Markene —— 描绘了一段架空历史，讲述了挪威与日本之间一场被遗忘的战争——这两个国家是垂死世界中仅存的强权。

这场冲突摧毁了大地本身。留下的只有一片超越生死的战场，在那里，胜利已无意义，而人类早已注定败亡。

The songs of MorteMutta are not only songs. They are parts of a larger world. The complete lyrics will never be released. The words are only one part of the story. The meaning is also carried through sound, atmosphere, melodies, artwork and visual elements. There is no single answer. The listener becomes part of the creation by connecting the fragments.

進軍 (Shingun) - Shingun is the awakening. Ancient forces rise from the depths of Eijefjorden and from the highest peaks of Japan. It is a march toward the inevitable end.

To Tusen Aldre - A song about a long sleep. About being hunted, buried and forgotten, waiting for the moment of revenge and retribution.

死まんこ (Shimanko) - A dark folklore tale about a woman cast out and condemned as a witch. She disappears into the ancient forest and returns as something older and darker. Inspired by Norwegian and Japanese folklore, it explores betrayal, vengeance and the hunger of the forest.

På Markene - An alternate history and a forgotten war between Norway and Japan, the last remaining great powers in a dying world.

Their conflict has destroyed the earth itself. What remains is a battlefield beyond life and death, where victory no longer has meaning and humanity has already lost.

V: 除了发行单曲，你们今年还有什么其他新计划？比如发行首张完整专辑？

Apart from releasing singles, what other new projects do you have lined up for this year? For instance, releasing your first full-length album?

M: 接下来最重要的项目，是完成“MorteMutta”新纪元的首张完整专辑。我们还在筹备一个仅发行实体版本的作品"Slutten"；这是一段时长19分57秒的音乐旅程，并邀请了多位客座歌手献声。它不仅仅是一首歌，更是一张EP，也是一个自成一体的传奇故事。觉醒才刚刚开始，更多来自 MorteMutta 世界的音乐、视觉内容与故事即将呈现。愿峡湾苏醒。

The greatest project ahead is the completion of the first full-length album of the new MorteMutta era. We are also preparing a physical-only release: "Slutten", a 19:57-minute journey featuring several guest vocalists. It is not only a song, but an EP and a saga of its own. The awakening has only begun. More music, visuals and stories from the world of MorteMutta will emerge. May the fjords awaken.
