Today we are introducing the technical Brutal Death Metal band Unbirth from Italy. Founded in 2005, Unbirth is a highly qualified and established Italian band, initially proposed by guitarist Emanuele Ottani. Singer Alberto Dettori and drummer Mirko Virdis also joined the band. In 2007, they released a Spill album with the Italian band Death Metal/Grindcore Recreation. In 2011, they released a demo work, which showcased the talents of the band members. In 2013, they released their first official album "Deracidated" on the famous Japanese label Amputated Vein Records. Celestial Oligarchy "is deeply loved by many fans and has also gained more attention. In 2018, the band debuted on the American label New Standard Elite They have released their second official album "Fleshforged Columns of Deceit", which is a more mature and stable work. In their works, you can feel the deep influence of Suffocation, Decapitated, and Severe Torture bands on them, as well as some Old School influences, such as Malevolent Creation. This year, the band released their latest work "Asomatous Bersmirch" on the New Standard Elite label, and the magazine also contacted the band for an exclusive interview on the occasion of the release of the new album!

Hello, brother. It's a pleasure to meet you and thank you very much for participating in this interview. I think this is the first time that your band has been interviewed by a Chinese magazine. First of all, I would like to say hello to all Chinese fans. Unbirth was founded in 2005 and is a long-established band. Who proposed to form this band? What is the meaning of this name?

Hello, it's our pleasure! This is the first time we've been interviewed by a Chinese magazine, and thank you for this opportunity to better introduce us in your wonderful country. Greetings to all who know and follow us. The band was born from the shared idea of Emanuele Ottani (guitar), Mirko Virdis (drums), and Alberto Dettori (vocals) to create a brutal death band with a purely late '90s inspiration. Their reference bands were "suffocation," "decapitated," "severe torture," "malevolent creation." The name comes from a sexual fetish that implies the desire to be swallowed alive" by female genitalia. Aside from the meaning, which remains secondary in interest, we liked the way it sounded:solid, dark, iconic.

You only have the drummer as the first generation member now, and all the other members have been replaced. Why did the first generation member leave the band? How did the new members join the band? Are you satisfied with the new member's job?

Actually, only Emanuele Ottani (guitar, composer) remains of the first generation, as Mirko Virdis (drums) passed away in a tragic car accident in 2020. He had been with the band since its creation in 2005. Alberto Baroni (guitar) joined the band a year later in 2006. So currently the oldest members remain Emanuele and Alberto. We met Michele, the singer, through frequenting the same circles; we'd meet at concerts. It was 2013, we were without a singer and had an album ready to be recorded. We wanted to hear what he was capable of, and we found the definitive voice and a great traveling companion. Luca Marmi (bass) was proposed by Mirko (former drummer). We were looking for a bassist who believed in the project, and Luca demonstrated his passion for the genre and his instrument. He's a solid and serious musician The latest addition to the band is Riccardo Valenti (drums). We lost our friend and co-founder Mirko. Riccardo is a longtime friend of ours and an experienced musician in the genre, actively playing in other bands—"Demiurgon," "Darkend," and "Rejectdeath." He welcomed our request to bring his experience to the band. I'd also like to mention Davide Farabegoli (drums), who created and recorded the drums for our third and final album. He helped us with this endeavor since we were temporarily without a drummer. He did an excellent job, and we will always be grateful to him.

Each member of your band is a musician with rich creative experience, and you have participated in numerous bands. Can you introduce your creative experience? I believe your creative experience will bring inspiration to more young musicians.

I currently have two active projects: Unbirth, of course, and Demiurgon, with Riccardo we just released a new album, "Miasmatic Deathless Chamber."

Every album of your band has excellent recording effects. Which studio did you record the album in? Which producer made the album for you? Is the recording process of the new album progressing smoothly?

We recorded our first album, "Deracinated Celestial Oligarchy," at a friend's studio. It's a very homemade setup, but we had it mixed and mastered by Stefano Morabito at 16th Cellar Studio. He gave the album an iconic sound; we love it. For our second album, "Fleshforged Columns of Deceit," we followed a more professional process at Art Distillery Studio, an excellent studio in our city. However, we decided to have it finished at 16th Cellar Studio to ensure we always have that iconic reference sound. Our new album, the third, just released, "Asomatous Besmirchment," was recorded, mixed, and mastered by Claudio Mulas at his Art Distillery Studio. He did an exceptional job, bringing a powerful, scathing, yet iconic sound; it's exactly what we were looking for.

Your logo is very beautiful. Who designed this logo for you? Your album artwork design is also very beautiful, especially this year's new album artwork design is very beautiful. Who designed these artworks for you?

Our logo was designed by the band's original singer (Alberto Dettori). Obviously, the current one is a refined version of the first prototypes. We've continued to update it over time, maintaining the classic style. The artwork for the first two albums was drawn by an Italian illustrator (Federico Musetti), and the third album by a Greek artist (Giannis Nakos).

You have collaborated with Amputated Vein Records and New Standard Elite to release all your albums, both of which are excellent labels. How did you get in touch with these two labels to collaborate? Are you satisfied with the work of these two brands?

As for amputated vein, we were at the first album, so we simply sent a round of emails to the labels that we thought were suitable for our formula and Masakatsu (owner of the label) made us the best proposal. With NSE, however, things went differently, we looked for Daniel (owner of the label at the time) considering the beautiful work he was doing regarding the creation of a roster of bands that reflected a certain type of sound... Yes, we're very satisfied. They're two labels that have a strong presence in the scene, and they bring bands that have a lot of visibility and credibility. Obviously, being so far away brings with it several complications, such as obtaining material and organizing concerts

The lyrics of "Deracinated Celestial Oligarchy," written by Emanuele and Alberto Dettori (first singer), explore themes of suffering, loss of identity, and the consequences of destruction. The phrase "deracinated celestial oligarchy" itself suggests an elite ruling class, uprooted from its foundations and now exercising power in a chaotic, perhaps apocalyptic, context. The lyrics also speak of "mental torture," a "scourge" corrupting souls, and a search for salvation amidst the ruins. The imagery evokes a world devastated by a catastrophic event, where the ruling power is implicated in the suffering. The phrase "bleeding skies above the ruins of our pride" further emphasizes the sense of loss and

destruction.

For the lyrics, I wrote those of the second and third album. I can say that the lyrics choose me and not vice versa, I find inspiration in the apocalyptic visions that sometimes cross my mind. For the second album Fleshforged Columns Of Deceit I tried to express the concept of man emptied of his own humanity, describing all those facets that make up that kaleidoscopic nightmare erroneously called "life", for the new one Asomatous Besmirchment instead I focused on two elements (State-Church) that have the ultimate goal of keeping us anchored on this existential plane thus preventing us from evolving

First of all, congratulations to your band for releasing their third official album "Asomatous Bersmirchment" this year. Your three albums have left a deep impression on me. Your arrangements are complex and very cruel, and each Riff is carefully selected and arranged. The drumming is clean, and the compactness is very radical. The guitarist's skills are superb, and the singer's singing is also very passionate. What is your opinion on the new album? What are the changesbetween the new album and the old album?

Basically the creative process we adopt is always the same: we meet in the rehearsal room and it is composed, mainly this "process" happened between Emanuele (guitars, also the supreme evil mastermind behind this project) and Mirko (drums R.I.P.) after Mirko passing everything changed, so for the third one the times have dilated a lot first of all looking for a valid substitute, and then to start meeting regularly in the rehearsal room again. We didn't seek a different outcome from the old and new albums; we always try to write songs we like, always following the same guidelines: heavy, technical riffs, but with a structure that sticks in your head, singable, and gets your head moving. For the new album I am very satisfied, I think we have left our testimony in the world of music again in a marked and recognizable way. We also recovered old riffs that had been discarded over time, rewrote them, and adapted them to the new songs.

V: 作为一支经典且经验丰富的乐队，你们曾参与众多音乐节。哪些音乐节给你们留下了深刻的印象？你能介绍一下当时的氛围吗？2025年还有哪些音乐节邀请你们参加？如果将来中国主办方邀请你们来到中国为中国歌迷表演，你们愿意来到中国吗？

As a classic and veteran band, you have participated in numerous music festivals. Which ones left a deep impression on you? Could you describe the atmos phere at those events? Are there any music festivals in 2025 that have invited you to perform? If Chinese organizers invite you to China to give a wonderful performance for Chinese fans in the future, would you be willing to come?

U: 从2013年开始，我们很幸运地参加了在意大利的众多节日和欧洲音乐节。..难忘的是BerlinDeathfest的经历“Severe Torture”和“Prostitute Disfigurement”等乐队令人难忘的是，今年我们参加了Karlsruhe Deathfest（第一届活动的精彩版本）和Berlin Desecration Fest（前身为BerlinDeathfest）在雅典参加比赛真是太棒了“Brutality over sanity”，伟大的Death乐队之地。然而，我可以告诉你，明年将会有一个美好的惊喜。…显然，对我们来说，这将是一种荣幸和荣幸访问中国，因为我们从未去过那里，这将是我们的最高荣誉一个重要的目标。

Having started in 2013 we have been lucky enough to take part in numerous festivals and kermesses in Italy and Europe...unforgettable was the experience at BerlinDeathfest with bands like "Severe Torture" and "Prostitute Disfigurement" unforgettable, this year we took part in the Karlsruhe Deathfest (first incredible edition for this event) and the Berlin Desecration Fest (formerly Berlin Deathfest,) It was wonderful to play in Athens at “Brutality over sanity”, land of great deathmetal bands. I can however tell you that next year there will be a nice surprise....obviously for us it would be a pleasure and an honor to visit China as we have never been there, it would be the crowning of an important goal.
