今天采访到的是来自芬兰的Thrash / Heavy / Alternative Metal乐队Kamala，组建与2005年的Kamala由前鼓手Päivi和Karita组建，Kamala这个名字在芬兰语中代表的是可怕的意思，一位朋友开玩笑说："激流金属太可怕了，但如果让女孩来玩，那就更可怕了。Kamala的音乐受到了Thrash / Heavy / Alternative Metal等风格的影响，听起来像是新金属与简单而非焦虑和另类摇滚的奇怪混合，如果你喜欢现代摇滚乐和金属乐，那么它就非常适合你。2025年乐队发行了最新单曲“Sota sisällä”，在新单曲发行之际

Today's interview is with Kamala, a Thrash / Heavy / Alternative Metal band from Finland. Formed in 2005 by ex-drummers Päivi and Karita, the name Kamala stands for scary in Finnish, and a friend joked, “Thrash Metal is scary, but it's even scarier if you let girls play it. it's even scarier if you let girls play it” Kamala's music is influenced by styles such as Thrash / Heavy / Alternative Metal and sounds like a strange mix of neo-metal with simplicity rather than angst and alternative rock, which is perfect for you if you like modern rock and metal.In 2025 the band released their latest single “Sota sisällä” and on the occasion of the release of the new single the magazine got in touch with the band's Karita Kivioja for an exclusive interview!

V: 你好好朋友很高兴见到你，也非常感谢您接受我们的采访。我想这是你们乐队第一次接受中国杂志的采访。首先向中国的所有乐迷问好。Kamala乐队成立于2005年，今年也是你们乐队成立的第20个年头。最初是谁提议组建这个乐队的？Kamala这个名字有什么含义吗？

Hello, good friend. Nice to meet you and thank you very much for your participation in this interview. I think this is the first time for your band to be interviewed by China magazine. First of all, I would like to say hello to all the fans in China. Kamala band was founded in 2005, and this year is also the 20th year of your band's establishment. Who originally proposed to form this band? Does the name Kamala mean anything?

K: 感谢你邀请我们的采访！是的，这是第一次接受中文杂志的采访。乐队是由两位音乐教师学生Karita和Päivi前鼓手组建的，他们希望通过金属音乐来缓解学习压力和表达自我。Kamala 在芬兰语中的意思是”可怕的"。在一次Black Sabbath乐队的演出中，我们在为乐队取名字时想到了这个名字。我们想要一个单词、三个音节的名字。一位朋友开玩笑说："Thrash metal太可怕了，但如果让女孩来玩，那就更可怕了。

Thank You for the interview! Yes, this is the first interview for a Chinese magazine. The band was founded by two music teacher students Karita and Päivi (former drummer) as a way relief stress of studying and for self expression through metal music. The finnish word “kamala” means “awful” in english. The name came up during a Black Sabbath show when trying to figure out a name for the band. We wanted a one word, three syllable name. One friend said as a joke “Thrash metal is awful but it´s even more awful if you make girls play it”

V: 你们一直保持着目前的三人阵容。Timo Ruunaniemi和Karita Kivioja是Oblivion Beach乐队的队友。我认为这样在写歌时会更方便，因为你们对彼此都很感兴趣，知道对方想创作什么样的作品。能谈谈你们的创作经历吗？

You have always maintained the current three-person lineup. Timo Ruunaniemi and Karita Kivioja are teammates from the Oblivion Beach band. I think it will be more convenient when writing songs, because you are very interested in each other and know what kind of works the other wants to create. Can you tell us about your creative experience?

K: 一开始，歌曲是由整个乐队在排练时创作的。Karita带来歌词和旋律，然后由整个乐队确定歌曲的结构和编曲。现在我们没有那么多时间排练了，所以Karita会事先写好歌和歌词，一些编曲则由乐队完成。贝斯手Minttu Minkkinen负责伴唱，Timo Ruunaniemi负责打鼓。顺便提一下，Timo和Karita在2012年开始成为乐队成员，现在已是一对夫妻。

At the beginning songs were made during rehearsals by the whole band. Karita brought in lyrics and riffs and then the song structure and arrangement was made by the whole band. Nowadays we don´t spend so much time rehearsing so Karita writes songs and lyrics beforehand and some arrangements are made by the band. Backing vocals are done by bassist Minttu Minkkinen and drum parts are done by Timo Ruunaniemi. By the way Timo and Karita started out as bandmates in 2012 and are now a married couple.

Each of your works has made obvious progress in recording. Of course, this has a lot to do with the development of the era. Now the recording technology is more comprehensive. In which studio did you record the album? Who produced the album for you? Is the recording of the latest single going well?

K: 单曲“Sota sisällä”与专辑于2013年在同一录音棚录制。它们是在SN-Audio Production录制的，由Sami Niittykoski制作。母带制作在Alho Audio Mastering完成。我们花了大约三个月的时间录制这首单曲，因为我们想为乐队建立一种全新的声音。也有可能为下一张专辑打造全新的声音。我们试图偏离 “Modern Metal”的声音，使用真正的吉他放大器，而不是模型或仿真，录制真正的鼓，而不是所有的采样。因此我们在录音方面有点Old School。

The single “Sota sisällä” was recorded in the same studio as the album in 2013. They were recorded in SN-Audio Production and produced by Sami Niittykoski. Mastering was done in Alho Audio Mastering. We spent about three months recordind this single because we were trying to establish a brand new sound for the band. And possibly a new sound for the next album. We tried to deviate a little bit from ”modern metal” kind of sound by using actual guitar amps instead of modelling or emulation and recording real drums and not all samples. So kind of going old-school in recording.

V: 你们乐队的音乐主题是什么？为什么选择这样一个音乐主题？你想通过这样的音乐主题表达什么？你们还创作了歌词部分，这些歌词是谁写的？他的灵感来源是什么？

What is the music theme of your band? Why did you choose such a music theme? What do you want to express through such a musical theme? Did you write the lyrics? Who wrote these lyrics? What was his inspiration?

K: 歌手兼吉他手Karita是听着Metallica、Slayer、Anthrax、Sepultura和Pantera 的早期唱片长大的并受到这些乐队的启发。这种重型音乐是她表达自我、发泄情感和攻击性的一种方式。

Singer and guitarist Karita grew up listening to early records by Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax, Sepultura and Pantera and was inspired by these bands. This kind of heavy music was a way for her to express herself and let out emotions and aggression.

V: 你们的所有作品都在Inverse Records唱片公司出版，这是芬兰的一个优秀品牌。你是如何接触到这个品牌并与之合作的？你对他们的工作满意吗？

All of your works are published in the Inverse Records brand, which is an excellent brand in Finland. How did you get in touch and cooperate with this brand? Are you satisfied with their work?

K: 我们位于芬兰的同一个城市于韦斯屈莱，在Jaakko Tarvainen创办这个品牌之前，我们就已经是朋友了，所以对我们来说这是一个显而易见的选择。是的，我们对Inverse Records非常满意。

We are located in the same city of Jyväskylä in Finland and we were friends with Jaakko Tarvainen before he started the lable, so it was an obvious choice for us. Yes we have been very happy with Inverse Records.

V: 你们的Logo设计非常简单，但这种设计形式是我个人最喜欢的方式，因为我很容易就能记住你们的名字。谁为你们设计了这个Logo？你们的专辑设计非常抽象。是谁为你们设计了这些专辑作品，是什么激发了他的灵感？

Your logo design is very simple, but this design form is my personal favorite way, because I can easily remember your names. Who designed this logo for you? Your album artworks are designed very abstractly. Who designed these album artworks for you and what inspired him?

K: Logo是前乐队成员在制作我们的第一张照片时无意中创造的，所以并没有什么故事。它简单干净，所以我们就保留了下来。专辑的画是由歌手Karita创作的。新单曲的封面是芬兰艺术家Jani Kaunisto创作的。

Logo was created kind of accidentally by former band member when making our first pictures so there´s not much of a story there. It was simple and clean so we just kept it. The pressing iron artwork for the album was created by singer Karita. For the new single artwork is a painting made by Finnish artist Jani Kaunisto.

V: 你们的乐队在2013年发行了第一张正式专辑"Kamala akka"之后，就再也没有发行过新作品。直到今年你们才发行了最新单曲"Sotasill"是什么原因导致你们多年没有推出新作品？

After your band released its first official album "Kamala akka" in 2013, no new works have been released. Until this year, you just released the latest single "Sotasill". What caused you not to release any new works for many years?

K: 一个词生活。因为个人和工作的原因，第一支乐队解散了。在那之后我们每年只和新乐队一起演出几场。我们没有新歌，也不确定是否会继续组建乐队。

One word. Life. The first line-up disbanded because of personal and work related stuff. After that we just played a couple of shows per year with the new line-up. We didn´t have new songs and weren´t sure if we would continue with band.

V: 首先祝贺你们今年发行的最新单曲“Sota Sisll”。你们的作品听起来像是Nu Metal和Simple Rock的奇怪混合体，带着突如其来的无情、黑暗和愤怒。你们的新作品给人的感觉是歌曲中仍有一些 Goove 元素，但整体主题是 Thrash/重金属。你对自己的作品有何看法？新作品和旧作品之间有什么变化吗？

First of all, congratulations on your latest single "Sota Sisll" released this year. Your works sound like a strange mixture of new metal and simple rock, with a sudden sound of ruthlessness, darkness and anger. Your new works feel that there are still some Goove elements in the songs, but the overall theme is Thrash/Heavy Metal. What do you think of your works? Is there any change between the new work and the old one?

K: 谢谢！我们对新歌非常满意。我们音乐的基本元素始终来自于Old-School Thrash Metal和Pantera-Style Groove Metal。然后我们尝试保持简单但沉重的风格。当你在其中加入女声时，听起来就像Kamala。我们也喜欢歌曲的多样性。

Thank you! We are really happy with new song. The fundimentals in our music always comes from that old-school thrash metal and Pantera-style groove metal. Then we just try to keep it kind of simple but heavy. And when you add female vocals into the mix it sounds like Kamala. We like to have variety in the songs too.

V: 作为一支老牌乐队，你们参加过很多音乐节。哪些音乐节给你们留下了深刻的印象？能谈谈当时的气氛吗？2025年你们还会参加哪些音乐节？

As an old band, you have participated in many music festivals. What music festivals left a deep impression on you? Can you tell us about the atmosphere at that time? What other music festivals are you going to attend in 2025?

K: 大型音乐节不多，但我们参加过2009年的 Nummirock。这是芬兰历史最悠久的金属音乐节之一，因此对我们来说非常重要。作为一支新成立的乐队能与这些大乐队在同一个音乐节上演出真是太棒了。当然小型音乐节对我们来说也非常重要。目前我们还没有任何演出计划。我们仍在考虑乐队的下一步。

Not alot of the big festivals but we did play in Nummirock 2009. One of the oldest metal festivals in finland so that was very important to us. As a starting up band playing in the same festival with all these big bands was awesome. Of course smaller festivals for us are very important too. Currently we don´t have any shows coming up. We are still thinking about what is the next step for the band.

V: 除了发行新单曲，你2025年还有哪些新工作要做？发行这首单曲是否意味着你的最新专辑即将发布？你能透露一些信息吗？

What new work do you have to do in 2025 besides releasing a new single? Can the release of this single indicate that your latest album will be released soon? Can you tell us some information?

K: 现在我们还没有什么新歌的想法，所以我们可能会一次只发行一首歌，也许将来会把它们编入一张专辑。我们也有几首翻唱歌曲，我们很希望有一天能录制出来，所以我们会拭目以待。

Right now we have few ideas for new songs so were probably going to release one song at a time and maybe in the future compile them into an album. We also have couple of cover-songs that we really would like to record some day so we´ll see.

V: 你们是一支优秀的乐队，我会一直支持和关注你们的乐队。我也希望通过这次采访有更多的中国歌迷关注和支持你们的乐队。最后有什么话想对中国歌迷说吗？

You are an excellent band. I will always support and pay attention to your band. I also hope that more China fans will pay attention to and support your band through this interview. Do you have anything to say to China fans at the end?
