未来军团 - 芬兰Death Metal乐队Messiah Paratroops专访

今天采访到的是来自芬兰的Death Metal乐队Messiah Paratroops，成立于1989年的Messiah Paratroops由Janne Roima、Pekka Laasanen、Mikko Vainikainen、Niku Oksala和Aku Oksala，不久之后其他的成员也加入了乐队，最初乐队取名为Aeon并且以Aeon的名义发行了一些作品，1996年乐队更名为现在的名字Messiah Paratroops，但是更换了名字之后乐队宣布解散，直到2015年才重新组建，直到2025年乐队才发行新的单曲“Painful Sleep”，这首单曲的发行也预示着乐队的第一张专辑发行，不久之后芬兰的著名厂牌Inverse Records宣布与Messiah Paratroops签约并且发行他们的第一张正式专辑“Legions of Tomorrow”，在新专辑发行之际杂志也通过Inverse Records厂牌与乐队取得联系进行了一次专访！

Today's interview is with Finnish Death Metal band Messiah Paratroops, formed in 1989 by Janne Roima, Pekka Laasanen, Mikko Vainikainen, Niku Oksala and Aku Oksala. Oksala, and soon after other members joined the band, initially named Aeon and released some material under the name Aeon, the band changed its name to its current name Messiah Paratroops in 1996, but after the name change the band announced that it was disbanding and did not reform until 2015, and the band did not release a new single until 2025 “Painful Sleep”, the release of which heralded the release of the band's first album, was soon followed by the announcement that the Finnish label Inverse Records had signed Messiah Paratroops and released their first official album. On the occasion of the release of their first album “Legions of Tomorrow”, Inverse Records contacted the band for an interview!

V: 你好兄弟很高兴见到你，非常感谢你接受我们的采访。我想这是你们乐队第一次接受中国杂志的采访。首先向所有中国歌迷问好！Messiah Paratroops乐队成立于1989年，谁是乐队的发起人？

Hello brother, nice to meet you and thank you very much for participating in this interview. I think this is the first time your band has been interviewed by a Chinese magazine. First of all, say hello to all the Chinese fans! Messiah Paratroops was formed in 1989，who was the initiator of the band, and do you remember what it was like back then?

M: 你好！我以前从未接受过中国杂志的采访。乐队成立于1989年秋天，成员包括Janne Roima、Pekka Laasanen、Mikko Vainikainen、Niku Oksala和Aku Oksala。Janne, Pekka和Mikko已经在一起演奏过，我们兄弟俩也加入了进来，于是就有了Messiah Paratroops这个名字。

Hello! I’ve never been interviewed by a Chinese magazine before. The band started in the autumn of 1989 by Janne Roima, Pekka Laasanen, Mikko Vainikainen, Niku Oksala, and Aku Oksala. Janne, Pekka, and Mikko had already been playing together, and the two of us brothers joined in and we developed the name Messiah Paratroops.

V: 你们的乐队最初叫Aeon直到1996年才正式改成现在的名字。与此同时你们的风格也从Industrial Melodic Death Metal转变为现在的Old School Death Metal。你们为什么决定改变乐队名称和风格？

Your band was originally named Aeon, and it wasn’t until 1996 that you officially changed to your current name. At the same time, your style changed from Industrial Melodic Death Metal to the current Old School Death Metal. Why did you decide to change your band name and style?

M: 我们的名字一直叫Messiah Paratroops，准确地说我们原来叫Necrophiliac，但巴西已经有一支乐队叫这个名字了，所以我们决定改成Messiah Paratroops。

Our name has always been Messiah Paratroops, and to be precise, we were originally called Necrophiliac, but there was already a band with that name in Brazil, so we decided to change it to Messiah Paratroops.

V: 你们乐队只剩下两位原成员，Aku和Niku其他成员都换了。原成员为什么离开乐队？新成员是如何加入的？你对新成员的工作满意吗？

There are only two original members left in your band, Aku and Niku, the rest have changed. Why did the original members leave the band? How did the new members join? Are you satisfied with the work of the new members?

Janne Roima has never left or been kicked out of the band. Pekka Laasanen wanted to play lighter music, so we decided to let him go. Mikko Vainikainen lost interest in this kind of music, and in his place, we got Sam Jämsen. With Sam joining, we began evolving more toward our current style. Sam Jämsen left after the 2017 Finnish Death Metal Maniacs festival. We've always gotten new members whenever someone left, thanks to our good network. For a while, it was just me and Jani Vartiainen, or sometimes just the two of us, as Niku is sort of a long-distance member. Before Jani, we had Ville Vesterinen and Antti Sinikangas on guitar, and Jouni Korhonen on drums. Pete Airaksinen replaced Antti, and Vilho Kananen replaced Jouni. Also, Jari Bäck joined as a second bassist, but he is a full member. The new members have integrated very well and are highly skilled professionals.

Your band’s work has improved a lot with the development of recording technology. What studio did you record your album in, and who produced it for you? How are the recordings for your upcoming album going?

M: 鼓是在库奥皮奥音乐学院录制的，其他都是在我们的排练场完成的。Jari “Tupi” Tuomainen制作并混音了我们的专辑。录音速度相对较慢，需要反复录制多次。有些录音出乎意料的丢失等等。

The drums were recorded at the Kuopio Conservatory, and everything else was done at our rehearsal space. Jari “Tupi” Tuomainen produced and mixed our album. The recordings were relatively slow, and they had to be done several times. Some recordings, surprise surprise, went missing at times, and so on.

V: 你们乐队的Logo设计独特，是谁为你们设计的？它看起来像一只鹰。你们的专辑封面设计也很精美，这些图案是谁设计的？

Your band’s logo is uniquely designed, who designed it for you? It looks like an eagle. Your album artwork is also beautifully designed, who was responsible for these graphics?

M: J-P Kontinen设计了我们的防毒面具盾牌Logo。专辑封面由Niko Anttila设计。

J-P Kontinen designed our gas mask shield logo. The album artwork was created by Niko Anttila.

V: 你乐队的音乐主题是什么，为什么选择它？你希望通过音乐表达什么？歌词是你自己写的吗，背后的灵感是什么？

What is the musical theme of your band, and why did you choose it? What do you want to express with your music? Did you write the lyrics yourself, and what was the inspiration behind them?

M: 我们的主题是神圣的伞兵从太空降临，摧毁和奴役人类。我们是超凡脱俗的存在。我们表达了人性的简单和脆弱。歌词主要由我们自己创作，但专辑中有四首歌是由Markus Laakso创作的。我们从周围的世界、电影等中汲取灵感。

Our theme is divine paratroopers descending from space to destroy and enslave humanity. We are otherworldly beings. We express the simplicity and weakness of humanity. We mainly write the lyrics ourselves, but on the album, there are four tracks written by Markus Laakso. We draw inspiration from the world around us, movies, etc.

V: 你们的乐队通过Inverse Records和Seraphic Decay Records这两个知名唱片公司发行过专辑。你们是如何与这些唱片公司取得联系并进行合作的？你们对这些唱片公司的工作满意吗？

Your band has released albums through Inverse Records and Seraphic Decay Records, both well-known labels. How did you get in touch with these labels for collaboration? Are you satisfied with the work of these labels?

M: 我们给Seraphic寄去了我们的"Lost Soul Domain"的Demo，他们想发行“The Past”这张EP。我只看过那张唱片一次，我们并没有从中获益多少。这有点像敲竹杠。与Inverse的合作非常顺利。我们向他们发送了一个全面的宣传资料包与他们取得了联系。

We sent Seraphic our Lost Soul Domain demo, and they wanted to release The Past EP. I’ve only seen that record once, and we didn’t benefit much from it. It was a bit of a ripoff situation. With Inverse, things have worked very smoothly. We got in touch by sending them a comprehensive promo package.

V: 祝贺你们乐队发行首张正式专辑"Legions of Tomorrow"和新单曲"Painful Sleep"！这首单曲是你们1991年Demo中一首曲子的重新录制版本。你们如何描述自己的作品？新专辑与旧专辑相比有什么变化吗？

Congratulations on the release of your band's first official album "Legions of Tomorrow" and the new single "Painful Sleep"! The single is a re-recorded version of a track from your 1991 demo. How would you describe your work? Has the new album changed compared to the old ones?

M: 除了音色和演奏技巧，我们并没有什么变化，我们的声音还是和以前一样真实。歌曲的创作过程从吉他手制作的旋律开始，然后我们再对其他部分进行编曲。Jani主要负责专辑中的新歌。专辑发行后我们开始创作新歌，Pete也带来了很多可用的旋律。

We haven’t really changed except for our sound and playing skills. We still sound as authentic as before. The song creation process starts with riffs made by the guitarists, and then we arrange the rest. Jani has mainly taken responsibility for the new songs on the album. After the album, we’ve started working on new songs, and Pete has brought in many usable riffs.

V: 作为一支经典老牌乐队，我相信你们参加过很多音乐节。哪些音乐节给你们留下的印象最深氛围如何？2025年你们还受邀参加过哪些音乐节？

As a classic veteran band, I’m sure you’ve been to many festivals. Which festivals have impressed you the most, and what was the vibe like? What other festivals have you been invited to in 2025?

M: Old Farts Rock令人难忘，因为它给了我们新的能量，我们现在仍在乘风破浪。明年秋天的Kuolio Fest，我们还在考虑其他可能性。

Old Farts Rock was unforgettable, as it gave us new energy, and we’re still riding that wave.

Kuolio Fest next fall, and we’re looking into other possibilities as well.

V: 自1994年的试听曲目“Jesus Christ Cyberseed”之后，你们就再也没有发行过任何新作品。这么多年没有发行新歌的原因是什么？

You haven’t released any new material since your demo “Jesus Christ Cyberseed” in 1994. What is the reason for not releasing any new material for so many years?

M: 1994年之后我们录制了多张唱片并于1997年更名为Aeon。然而Messiah Paratroops从未停止过存在。2014年我们在 Old Farts Rock重新启动。2014年我们重新录制了一些老歌。2018 年我们录制了“Evil Lives Among Us”、“Madness Incarnate”和“Murders of the Lake” 等歌曲。

After 1994, we made various recordings and changed our name to Aeon in 1997. However, Messiah Paratroops never ceased to exist. We reactivated in 2014 at Old Farts Rock. In 2014, we re-recorded some old songs. In 2018, we recorded songs like "Evil Lives Among Us," "Madness Incarnate," and "Murders of the Lake."
