Today's interview is with the Italian alternative metal band Maysnow. Maysnow, formed in 2016, was originally a music project created by Daniele Rini (Silvered, Ghost of Mary) in memory of his friend Mimmo Angelini. The close artistic collaboration with guitarist and project co-founder Roberto Vergallo (formerly Silvered) immediately formed a clear musical path: to make music writing a profound instinct and necessity, a way to convey pain and heal the darkness of the soul. The band's approach is heartfelt, sometimes nostalgic, rooted in alternative metals with strong junk rock and progressive influences, all immersed in a dark atmosphere. The band just released their latest single this year, and on the occasion of the release of the new single, the magazine contacted the band's singer Daniele for an exclusive interview!

Hello Maysnow, thank you for taking part in this interview. This should be your first interview with a Chinese media outlet—could you start by telling us when the band was formed, and how the members met?

Hi there, I am Daniele, singer of Maysnow. Thank you for inviting us to this interview! Yes, it's a pleasure to be here with a Chinese media outlet. Maysnow was formed in the late 2016, when I and Rob (guitarist) met together again after years (we played in the band Silvered from 2008 to 2010), creating a sound that was unique and reflected our passions and experiences, working hard to write songs that connect with people and leave a lasting impression. In 2018 my friend Nicola Lezzi (bass, ex-Ghost of Mary) joined Maysnow and Graziano Marra (ex-NonToccateMiranda) became our new drummer in the early 2023.

V: 你们最近发布了歌曲“Hare (Extended Vision)”的新版本。是什么让你决定为这首歌创作一个不同的版本？为什么选择这首特定的歌曲？

You recently released a new version of your song “Hare (Extended Vision)”. What made you decide to create a different version of this song? Why did you choose this specific track?

D: 我们非常激动地发布了"Hare"的新版本，因为这是为我们的第二张专辑"A Dream Within A Dream"创作并发布的首支歌曲。这个扩展版本实际上是这首歌的第一个完整版本，包括一个宏伟的开场（由大提琴手兼朋友Luca Basile编排，他目前正在中国巡演），这个开场之前因为广播原因被删减了。"Hare"很快成为乐队最标志性的歌曲之一，象征着精神升华和吉祥物（我们有一款名为“H”的精彩面具，出现在大多数音乐视频和现场演出中）。

We are very excited to have released the new version of “Hare”, because it was the first song written and published for our second album “A Dream Within A Dream”. This extended version is actually the first and full version of the track, including a majestic intro (arranged by the cellist and friend Luca Basile, on tour in China right now) that was previously cut for radiophonic reasons. Hare became soon one of the band's most iconic songs, a symbol of spiritual elevation and masquotte (we have a fantastic mask called "the H" that appears in most of our music videos and live shows).

Last year, you released the album “A Dream Within A Dream”. It's a very interesting and rich album, and I heard many fascinating sounds in it. Can you tell us about your creative process? How did you manage to make the music so layered and diverse?

On october 2024 we released “A Dream Within A Dream” via Sleaszy Rider Records. As done for the first album “The Unexpected”, we tried to be free from genre’s limits, trying to write music in the most spontaneous way possible. The creative process is not always the same. We can start to write from a guitar riff or a piano loop, sometimes from an acoustic guitar melody. We make together all our different inspirations, taken from our musical backgrounds. We love metal music, but also classical music, progressive, grunge, a melting of genres that creates our sound.

V: 你在歌词中通常会探索哪些主题？你认为在表达情感或想法时，歌词比音乐本身更重要吗？

What themes do you usually explore in your lyrics? Do you think lyrics are more important than the music itself when it comes to expressing emotion or ideas?

D: 我于2014年5月失去了最好的朋友，因此我选择将这份痛苦转化为新的音乐。"Maysnow"是我宣泄情感的出口，至今歌词仍如一面镜子，映照着我内心深处的感受。音乐与歌词同等重要，音乐应能描绘情感，而歌词则需表达这些思想。歌词关乎梦想、记忆、痛苦与希望。我们努力在歌词与音乐之间创造协同作用，以尽可能有效地传达我们的情感与思想。音乐具有主观性且开放解读，因此歌词能提供背景并赋予更清晰的含义。同时，音乐也能影响歌词的解读，营造更具情感共鸣与沉浸感的体验。

I lost my best friend in may 2014, so I prefered to channel the pain into new music. Maysnow was the catharsis and still now lyrics represent the mirror of deep feelings. Music and lyrics are both important, music should be able to describe the emotions as well as lyrics should express those ideas. Lyrics are about dreams, memories, pain and hope. We strive to create a synergy between lyrics and music to convey our emotions and ideas as effectively as possible. Music can be subjective and open to interpretation, so lyrics can help provide context and a clearer meaning. At the same time, music can also influence the interpretation of the lyrics and create a more emotional and engaging experience.

V: 在加入Maysnow之前，你们都曾在其他乐队中演奏。在Maysnow创作的音乐中，最吸引或激励你们的是什么？

Before joining Maysnow, you all played in other bands. What is it about the music you create in Maysnow that attracts or inspires you the most?

D: 对我来说，最吸引我的正是创作音乐的过程本身。我热爱尝试不同的声音和创意，看着我们的艺术构想如何融合，最终创造出独一无二的作品。我同样受到通过音乐自由表达情感与思想的启发，无需受制于任何束缚或限制。能够与他人分享这些情感并建立联结，正是音乐创作令人倍感满足之处。乐队成员间的创意默契以及我们共同创造新颖有趣作品的能力，正是Maysnow独具魅力的核心所在。

It's the process of creating music itself that appeals to me the most. I love experimenting with different sounds and ideas, and seeing how our artistic visions merge to create something unique. I'm also inspired by the freedom to express my emotions and thoughts through music, without constraints or limitations. Being able to share these emotions with others and connect with them is what makes it even more rewarding. The band’s creative chemistry and our ability to work together to create something new and interesting is what makes Maysnow so special.

V: 到目前为止，你们参加过哪些现场演出？有没有哪场演出给你们留下了深刻的印象？

What kind of live performances have you done so far? Is there any particular show that left a deep impression on you?

D: 我们曾在意大利及海外的多家俱乐部和音乐节举办过多场现场演出。每场演出都独具特色，让我们得以尝试不同的音乐风格并与观众进行多样化的互动。其中一场给我留下深刻印象的演出是我们以Maysnow名义举办的首场演出。看到我们的音乐能以那样的方式与人们产生共鸣，真是令人难以置信的体验。我们也有机会与其他有趣的乐队合作，这为我们提供了成长和进步的机会，我们对迄今为止获得的经验深表感激。

We've played several live shows at various clubs and festivals, both in Italy and abroad. Each show was unique and allowed us to experiment with our sound and interact with the audience in different ways. One of the performances that left a deep impression on me was our first show as Maysnow. It was an incredible experience to see how our music could connect with people in that way. We've also had the opportunity to play with other interesting bands, it has been an opportunity to grow and improve, and we're grateful for the experience we've gained so far.

V: 你有没有特别喜欢的乐队？你认为哪些艺术家或乐队对你的音乐影响最大？

Do you have any bands you personally love? Which artists or bands do you think have influenced your music the most?

Yes, there are several bands I personally love. Among my favorites are bands like Anathema (we write and record “Another Chance” with Daniel Cavanagh), Pain of Salvation (Ragnar Zolberg sings and plays guitar on “Still Bleeding”), Alice in Chains, In Flames, Paradise Lost. Their music has a depth and complexity that really inspires me. Regarding the influences on our music, I think Maysnow has been influenced by a variety of artists and bands. we all have different musical tastes, so our music reflects a combination of different influences. from grunge music to prog metal, from symphonic metal to djent Our music has an alternative metal sound that's influenced by various bands, but we try to put our own spin on it and create something unique.

V: 乐队接下来有什么计划？近期是否有新音乐或现场演出安排？

What are the band’s upcoming plans? Do you have new music or live shows scheduled for the near future?

D: 我们正致力于通过采访、乐评以及与乐迷互动的方式推广专辑，此过程得到了Sleaszy Rider Records、IDIA管理公司和Wanikiya经纪公司的鼎力支持。我们很快将宣布新的现场演出。与此同时，我们正在创作新音乐。未来几个月内将发布新歌曲。

We are focusing on promoting the album through interviews, reviews and engaging with our audience with the help of Sleaszy Rider Records, IDIA management and Wanikiya agency. We will announce new live shows very soon. In the meantime we are working on new music. We will publish new songs in the next months.
