超前意识 - 芬兰Melodic Death Metal乐队Dimman专访

今天采访到的是来自芬兰的Melodic Death Metal乐队Dimman，2014年由Jaakko Yli-Sorvari和第一任鼓手一起组建了这支乐队，随着乐队的成长，乐队也开始招募其他的成员加入乐队，让乐队的阵容更加的完整，2016年乐队的第一首单曲“Shattered”，这首单曲发行之后便受到了所有芬兰歌迷的好评，这首单曲发行之后乐队收获了芬兰著名厂牌Inverse Records的关注，从2017年开始到现在Dimman乐队所有的作品都是在这家厂牌发行的，2025年乐队也即将发行他们的第二张正式专辑“Consciousness”，在新专辑发行之际杂志与乐队吉他手Jaakko Yli-Sorvari取得联系进行了一次专访！

Today's interview is with the Melodic Death Metal band Dimman from Finland, the band was formed in 2014 by Jaakko Yli-Sorvari along with the first drummer, as the band grew the band started recruiting other members to join the band to make the lineup more complete, in 2016 the band's first single “Shattered” was released to critical acclaim by all Finnish fans, and after the release of this single the band gained the attention of the famous Finnish label Inverse Records, where all of Dimman's releases have been released since 2017, and the band will soon be releasing their first single in 2025. With their second official album “Consciousness” due out in 2025, the magazine got in touch with guitarist Jaakko Yli-Sorvari for an interview on the occasion of the album's release!

Hello brother nice to meet you and thank you very much for participating in this interview, I think this is the first time that your band has been interviewed by a Chinese magazine, first of all hello to all the Chinese fans, Dimman was formed in 2014 and is a band with a long history, who initiated the formation of this band in the first place?

J: 嘿！你说得对这可能是我们第一次接受中国杂志的采访、迟到总比不到好，哈哈！想想都觉得疯狂，是的乐队早在十多年前就已经成立了，我和我儿时的朋友Samppa一起组建了这支乐队。他是Dimman多年来的原鼓手。慢慢地我们积累了更多的演奏经验并邀请了更多的成员，使乐队的声音更加饱满。经过几年的磨炼，我们于2016年发行了首支单曲“Shattered”，2025年我们将发行第二张录音室专辑“Consciousness”重见天日。

Hey! You’re right, this might be the first time we’ve been interviewed by a Chinese magazine, better late than never haha! It’s crazy to think, but yes, the band was formed already over ten years ago. I formed the band together with my childhood friend Samppa, who was the original drummer of Dimman for many years. Slowly we gathered more experience of playing together and invited more members to make the soundscape fuller. After sharpening our skills for a few years, we released our first single “Shattered” in 2016. From then on, we’ve released something almost every year and now in 2025, our second studio album, “Consciousness”, will see the daylight.

V: 你们乐队在2020 - 2022年更换两名成员，为什么老成员要退出乐队？你对新成员的工作满意吗？

Your band is replacing two members in 2020 - 2022, why did the old members quit the band? How did the new members join the band and are you happy with what the new members are doing?

J: 和大多数乐队一样，我们也经历了一些阵容变动。原因很由于生活中的其他活动，每个人都没有足够的时间为乐队奉献。我很满意我们现在的阵容！最大的变化是我们的主唱Valtteri 决定在担任主唱的同时担任另一把吉他手。我认为这极大地改变了我们的音乐结构。

We’ve had some line-up changes along the way as most bands. The reasons were pretty standard, everyone didn’t have enough time to give out to the band due to other activities in

life. I’m really happy with our current line-up! The biggest change was when our singer, Valtteri, decided to grab the other guitar in conjunction with the vocal duties. I think this changed the structure of our music in a great way.

V: 你们乐队的录音效果非常好，这张专辑是在哪个录音室录制的？哪位制作人制作了你们的专辑？你们今年的新专辑的录制进展如何？

our band is very good when it comes to recording results, what studio did you record the

album in? Which producer produced your album? You have a new album coming out this

year, how is the recording of this new album coming along so far?

J: 谢谢！这张专辑由我们的瑞典朋友Mattias Ohlsson负责混音和母带制作，制作人是我和Mattias。鼓是在水堡工作室录制的，其他部分都是在我的家庭工作室Yllikkiyy Studios录制的。我们希望尽可能多地自己动手。录制吉他、贝斯和人声的录制工作，这样我们就能真正专注于紧凑而精彩的表演，而不必过多地担心日程安排。整张专辑已经准备了一段时间，将于二月底发行！

Thank you! The album was mixed and mastered by our friend from Sweden, Mattias Ohlsson and produced by myself and Mattias. Drums were recorded in Studio Watercastle but everything else was recorded in my home studio, Yllikkiyy Studios. It was clear from early on that we wanted to do as much as possible by ourselves. It was wonderful to record the guitars, bass and vocals on our own so we could really focus on tight and great performances without needing to worry about the schedule too much. The whole album has been ready for quite some time already and comes out at the end of February!

V: 你乐队的每个成员都是创造极端金属的资深音乐家，你能描述一下你的创作过程吗？新专辑的写作过程是怎样的？

Each member of your band is an experienced musician in creating extreme metal, can you describe your creative process? How did the writing process for the new album progress?

J: 我们和Valtteri（主唱、吉他手）一起创作，但大部分歌曲都是我自己写的。创作过程通常如下：我想出一个想法（旋律或节奏），然后我或多或少地独自完成整首歌曲，包括每件乐器。然后我们一起在排练场排练新作品，必要时进行修改，当然每个人都可以在曲目中加入自己的元素，但在最初的小样创作完成后，所有的东西90%在写完最初的样带后，一切都已经完成了90%。无论是由我创作还是由Valtteri创作，过程都非常相似。专辑中有些歌曲的部分是我们在排练室里共同创作的。但感觉总是更特别一些。

We write everything with Valtteri (vocals, guitars), but most of the songs are written by me. The writing process usually goes as follows: I come up with an idea (melody or riff) and then I more or less finish the whole track on my own including every instrument, after that we rehearse the new creation together in the rehearsal place and make some changes if necessary. Of course everyone can put their own spin on the track but everything is 90% there already after the initial demo writing. The process is very similar whether the demo was composed by me or Valtteri. Some songs on the album have parts that we’ve created together in the rehearsal room, which always feels a bit more special though.

V: 你的音乐主题是什么？为什么选择这个音乐主题？你想通过这个音乐主题表达什么？你是否写过歌词？这些歌词是谁写的？他的灵感来自什么？

What is the theme of your music about? Why did you choose this musical theme and what do you want to express through this musical theme? Did you write any lyrics parts, who wrote these lyrics and what was his inspiration?

J: 每首歌的主题略有不同，但总的来说歌词都是关于人的复杂心理的。人类思想的复杂性。例如，歌词的灵感来自于顺境变逆境的时候，但困难也是可以克服的，即使人们不得不暂时在深渊中匍匐前进。大部分歌词都是瓦尔特里写的，我们通常会和他一起润色歌词，尤其是注重歌词的时间安排。

The themes vary a bit from song to song but in general the lyrics are about the complexity of the human mind. For example the lyrics are inspired by times when good periods turn worse and difficulties try to take over the mind, but also how difficulties can be overcome, even if one has to momentarily crawl through the depths. Valtteri writes the majority of the lyrics, but we usually polish everything together with him, especially focusing on the timing of the words.

V: 你们乐队的Logo非常简单，但这种设计形式是我个人最喜欢的，因为我可以很容易的记住你们的名字，是谁为你们设计的Logo？你们的专辑艺术品设计的很漂亮是谁为你们设计的这些艺术品？

Your band's logo is very simple, but this form of design is my personal favorite because I can easily remember your band's name, who designed this logo for you? Your album artwork is really beautiful, who designed the album artwork for you?

J: 谢谢！Logo是我们的贝斯手Elias设计的，这张专辑的所有插图也是他设计的，乐队里能有这样的人才真是太好了。因为我们也制作自己的音乐录影带，Valtteri是这些视频的策划者。

Thank you! The logo was made by our very own bassist, Elias, as well as all the artworks for this album cycle. It’s wonderful to have that kind of talent in the band. We keep everything “in the family” when it comes to the album creation because we make our own music videos

too. With those, Valtteri is the mastermind.

V: 你们的所有作品都是在Inverse Records唱片公司发行的。Inverse Records是贵国一家非常优秀的唱片公司，你们是如何与这家唱片公司取得联系并进行合作的？你对他们的工作有多满意？

All of your work is released on Inverse Records, which is a very good label in your country, how did you get in touch with the label to collaborate? How did you get in touch with the label and how satisfied are you with their work?

J: 我们的合作可以追溯到2016年，当时我们只发行了第一首正式单曲“Shattered“，他们问我们是否想通过他们的厂牌发行一些作品。而下一张EP”Guide My Fury"则是 Inverse Records 的首次合作。我们对这家公司一直很满意，你不必担心他们会像当年的一些唱片公司那样抢你的钱。就像70年代的某些唱片公司那样，哈哈！

Our collaboration goes way back in 2016 when they asked if we wanted to release something through their label. At that point we had only released our first proper single “Shattered” and the next EP “Guide My Fury” was the first collaboration with Inverse Records and us. We’ve been satisfied with the company, you don’t have to fear they rob you like some labels did back in the 70s haha!

V: 首先祝贺你们乐队的新专辑"Consciousness"将于今年发行。包括独特的主音吉他和粗犷的喉音。在旋律和笨拙交错的节奏中，乐队一定会有许多真正迷人的片段。令人难忘的Solo和鼓手的精彩表演给我留下了深刻的印象。你对自己的作品有何看法？新专辑和旧专辑之间有什么变化吗？

First of all, congratulations on your band's new album "Consciousness" to be released this year. You can master the melody structure more firmly, so as to form a proper contrast and excel in this style, including the unique lead guitar and rough throat. In the melody posture and clumsy staggered rhythm, the band is sure to have many really fascinating fragments. I was deeply impressed by the beautiful melody, the unforgettable Solo and the wonderful performance of the drummer. What do you think of your work? Is there any change between the new album and the old one?

J: 非常感谢，我们非常感激！我们对“Consciousness”非常满意。与我们的第一张专辑相比，这次这张专辑与我们的第一张专辑相比，无疑更加精炼和连贯、但谱写优美的旋律一直是我们的强项之一。我们的第一张专辑风格更加多样和复杂，这主要归功于我们放弃了清唱。多样化通常是件好事，但我认为即使在没有两位歌手的情况下，我们也能制作出一张多才多艺的专辑。因为 Valtteri 可以发出多种不同类型的咆哮声和尖叫声。

Thank you so much, we appreciate that! We are really satisfied with “Consciousness”, the album is definitely more polished and coherent compared to our first album. This time the focus was maybe a bit more on the riffs than melodies which resulted in an energetic album, but writing beautiful melodies has always been one of our strong points. Our first album had a more diverse and complex style, mainly due to the clean vocals which we abandoned since. Diversity is usually a great thing but I think we managed to make a really versatile album even without two singers since Valtteri can deliver so many different types of growls and screams.

V: 作为一支老牌乐队，你们参加过很多音乐节。哪些音乐节留下了深刻的印象？能否谈谈当时的氛围？2025年你们还会受邀参加哪些音乐节？

As an old band, you have participated in many music festivals. What music festivals left a deep impression on you? Can you tell us about the atmosphere at that time? What other music festivals will you be invited to attend in 2025?

J: 我认为印象最深的是第一次有人真正来看我们的现场表演。观众喜欢我们的音乐，而且已经知道了我们的一些歌曲。今年我们还没有任何大型的音乐节计划。让我们拭目以待！

I think the deepest impressions were the first times when someone actually came to see us perform live. It was a wonderful feeling to play to an audience which liked our music and already knew some of our songs. For this year, we don’t have any huge plans when it comes to music festivals, let’s see what the future brings!

V: 除了在2025年发行新专辑之外，你们还有什么新的工作要做？能告诉我们一些信息？

Do you have any new work to do besides releasing new albums in 2025? Can you tell us some information?

J: 这张专辑的创作是一个漫长而细致的过程，所以我们还没有过多地讨论下一步的旅程。不过我们已经准备好了很多新材料，而且我们在作曲方面很有成就感，所以谁知道我们什么时候会再推出新的作品呢？让我们先欣赏一下“Consciousness”吧！

The creation of the album has been a long and meticulous process so we’ve not discussed our next adventures too much yet. However, we have already a lot of new material ready and we’re fairly productive when it comes to composing so who knows when we’re releasing something new again. Let’s enjoy “Consciousness” first though!

V: Dimman是一支优秀的乐队。我会一直支持和关注你们的乐队。我也希望通过这次采访能有更多的中国乐迷关注和支持你们的乐队。最后你有什么话要对中国的歌迷朋友们说吗？

Dimman is an excellent band. I will always support and pay attention to your band. I also hope that through this interview, more China fans will pay attention to and support your band. Do you have anything to say to your fans and friends in China at the end?

J: 非常感谢！向中国所有的老粉丝和新粉丝问好，我们很想去中国。在不久的将来将在那里演出！！
