今天采访到的是来自芬兰的Death Metal乐队Wretched Path，组建于2020年的Wretched Path是一支非常年轻的乐队，最初由吉他手Teemu和歌手Esa，不久之后贝斯手Nico，鼓手Seppo，吉他手Tapio加入完成了他们的阵容，虽然Wretched Path是一支很年轻的乐队，但是乐队的每一位成员都是经验丰富的音乐家，参加过很多芬兰知名乐队，2022年乐队发行了第一首单曲“16 Stabs”，这首单曲发行之后迅速成为了新生代乐队中的佼佼者，2023年乐队在芬兰的年轻厂牌Kuri Records发行了第一张正式专辑“Heavy Lies the Crown”，这张专辑发行之后引起了芬兰以及其他国家歌迷的关注，也是2023年最出色的一张Death Metal作品，今年乐队也刚刚发布了最新的单曲“Release of Violence”，由芬兰另外一家厂牌Meara Music发行，芬兰的著名厂牌Inverse Records也为Wretched Path乐队的新作品进行了宣传，前不久杂志同年通过Inverse Records厂牌的协助与Wretched Path乐队的歌手Esa，吉他手Teemu取得联系进行了一次专访！

Today's interview is with Finnish Death Metal band Wretched Path. Formed in 2020, Wretched Path is a very young band, initially consisting of guitarist Teemu and vocalist Esa, with bassist Nico, drummer Seppo, and guitarist Tapio joining soon after to complete the lineup. Although Wretched Path is a very young band, each member of the band is an experienced musician and has played in many famous Finnish bands. 2022 saw the release of the band's first single “16 Stabs”, which quickly became one of the leading bands of the new generation. In 2023 the band released their first official album on the young Finnish label Kuri Records, “Heavy Lies the Crown”, which caught the attention of fans in Finland and beyond and was one of the best Death Metal releases of 2023! This year the band has also just released their latest single “Release of Violence” on another Finnish label, Meara Music, and the famous Finnish label Inverse Records has also promoted Wretched Path's new work. Inverse Records has also been promoting Wretched Path's new release, and recently the magazine got in touch with Wretched Path's singer Esa and guitarist Teemu through Inverse Records for an interview!

Hello brother nice to meet you and thank you very much for participating in this interview, I think this is the first time your band has been interviewed by a Chinese magazine, first of all hello to all the Chinese fans, Wretched Path was formed in 2020 and is a very young band, who initiated the formation of the band in the first place?

E: 我们乐队的雏形可以追溯到一次与Teemu的灵感对话，当时我们都对Old School Death Metal非常感兴趣。起初只有我们两个人在制作音乐，但很快就发现我们强大的创造力需要一个完整乐队的全力配合。

The inception of our band traces back to an inspiring conversation with Teemu about our shared passion for Old School Death Metal. Initially, it was just the two of us crafting music, but it quickly became evident that our powerful creations deserved the full force of a complete band.

All five members of your band are first generation members, you know each other very well and know what kind of work each other wants to create, can you describe your creative process?

Teemu lays down the foundation of our music with his incredible compositions, which are then elevated by my vocals and Tapio’s electrifying solos. We leverage our deep understanding of each other’s strengths and weaknesses to create a cohesive and powerful sound. Excitingly, our talented drummer Seppo will also be contributing his composing skills in the future.

Your band is very good when it comes to recording results, which studio did you all record the album in and which producer produced the album for you? I know you've just released a new single, did the recording process go well for this one?

We’ve recorded both of our albums in our own studio, handling all the production work ourselves. Our upcoming second album, ‘Sea Of Death,’ took longer to create and record than our debut, ‘Heavy Lies The Crown,’ because we focused intensely on every detail and nuance. Despite the extra time, the process was smooth and enjoyable thanks to our great workflow.

Your logo design is very unique, who designed this logo for you? Your album artwork is also very beautiful especially the 2022 album artwork, who designed this artwork for you?

Our talented friend Kimmo Hyvönen created the logo and the cover art for our upcoming album, ‘Sea Of Death.’ The stunning artwork for our debut album, ‘Heavy Lies The Crown,’ was crafted by the local artist Saila Leskinen. We’re thrilled to hear that you appreciate these artworks, as we are incredibly proud of the contributions from these amazing artists!

What is the theme of your band's music about, why did you choose it and what do you want to express through it? Do you have a lyrics section, who writes these lyrics and what inspires him?

Our music is rooted in Old School Death Metal, but with a modern twist that updates the sound for today’s listeners. This genre is our passion, having grown up with it, and it’s what drives us. I (Esa) write all the lyrics, drawing inspiration from a variety of sources, including true stories from Finnish history involving killings, war, and diseases, as well as everyday life and the darkest corners of the human mind. Our music is a powerful blend of the past and present, delivering a raw and intense experience

We’re thrilled to collaborate with such fantastic companies. Although our partnerships are relatively new, each one has gone above and beyond to support us. Their exceptional work has been invaluable, and we’re excited about the future of these collaborations

Firstly congratulations to your band on the upcoming release of your latest album, you have one song released so far, I'm a big fan and I've been following your band for a while now, your band's work is excellent, beautiful, wicked melodies, I'm very impressed with the guitar parts, the drummer's fast, precise strikes are excellent and the singer's vocals are fantastic, low and powerful, what do you think of your work? What do you think? Has the new album changed from the old expert?

E: 首先感谢你的赞誉！我们很高兴您喜欢我们的音乐。我们为自己所创造的一切感到无比自豪并由衷地相信我们正走在一条伟大的道路上（尽管有点凄凉😉）。我我们即将发行的专辑"Sea Of Death"将比首张专辑"Heavy Lies The Crown"更加黑暗和快速。我们将在各方面进一步提升自己，力争把标准抬得更高。

First of all, thank you for your kind words! We’re thrilled that you’ve enjoyed our music. We’re incredibly proud of what we’ve created and genuinely believe we’re on a great path (albeit a bit Wretched 😉). Our upcoming album, ‘Sea Of Death,’ promises to be darker and faster than our debut, ‘Heavy Lies The Crown.’ We’ve pushed ourselves further in every aspect, aiming to raise the bar even higher.

What festivals have your band played, what festivals have impressed you, can you describe the atmosphere and what other festivals have you been invited to in 2025?

T: 2023年，我们在芬兰的Nummirock音乐节上度过了一段难忘的时光。这个音乐节在仲夏庆典期间举行，真正体现了庆祝和节日的精神。虽然我们还没有确定2025年的任何音乐节，请敬请关注我们即将举行的演出的最新消息，我们迫不及待

We had an incredible time performing at the Nummirock Festival in Finland in 2023. This festival, held during the mid-summer celebrations, truly captures the spirit of celebration and festivity. While we haven’t confirmed any festivals for 2025 yet, stay tuned for exciting updates on our upcoming gigs. We can’t wait to bring our music to more stages and share the experience with all of you
