重获新生 - 芬兰Death / Thrash Metal乐队Indemon专访

今天采访到的是来自芬兰的Death / Thrash Metal乐队Indemon，2020年由鼓手Patrik和吉他手Santeri Liesmala组建，两人从2006年认识之后再多支乐队合作，2022年乐队发行了第一首单曲“Ground Zero”便吸引了芬兰歌迷的关注，单曲发行不久之后乐队发行了EP专辑“Fear of Living”，这张混合着Death/Thrash Metal的元素，犀利，残暴的Riff，让这支乐队迅速成为了目前芬兰最炙手可热的Death/Thrash Metal乐队，今年乐队在Inverse Records厂牌发行了第一张正式专辑“Reclaiming Chaos”，在新专辑发行之际，杂志与乐队的鼓手Patrik取得联系进行了一次专访！

Today's interview is with Finnish Death/Thrash Metal band Indemon, formed in 2020 by drummer Patrik and guitarist Santeri Liesmala, who met in 2006 and have played in a number of bands since. Zero“ attracted the attention of Finnish fans, and shortly after the release of the single, the band released the EP ”Fear of Living", a mix of Death/Thrash Metal, sharp, brutal riffs that quickly made the band one of the most popular bands in Finland. This year the band released their first official album “Reclaiming Chaos” on Inverse Records, and on the occasion of the release, the magazine got in touch with the band's drummer, Patrik On the occasion of the release of the new album, the magazine got in touch with the band's drummer Patrik for an interview!

Hello Patrik, it's nice to meet you and thank you very much for participating in this interview. I think this is the first time your band has been interviewed by a Chinese magazine. First of all, let's say hello to all Chinese fans and friends. Indemon was founded in 2020 and is a long-standing band. Who proposed the formation of this band? What does the name Indemon mean?

P: 向所有中国读者问好！乐队最初是由我和吉他手Santeri Liesmala组成的。自2006年以来我们曾在许多项目中一起演奏过音乐，但Indemon绝对是我们最引以为豪的一个项目。

Greetings and a big hello to all your readers in China! The band was originally formed by myself and our guitar player Santeri Liesmala. We have played music together in many previous projects since 2006, but Indemon has definitely shaped out to be our proudest one yet.

V: 你们乐队都是第一代成员，这为你们的创作提供了更多便利，因为你们可以根据自己的想法创作歌曲。能介绍一下你们的创作过程吗？

Your band is all first generation members, which makes it more convenient for you to create works because you can create songs according to your own ideas. Can you introduce your creative process?

P: 我们的吉他手 Santeri 是我们歌曲背后的主要创作力量，我们让他来回答这个问题：

我个人的创作进展比较简单，因为我只写旋律和创作样曲。我尝试创作自己喜欢的东西，然后将这些歌曲的想法录制到电脑上。之后我把这些样曲发给其他成员，征求他们的意见，然后我们一起在排练场完成这些歌曲。在创作方面我尝试不拘一格地创作音乐，尽量不模仿其他乐队或流派。我创作的音乐是我音乐品味的混合体。当然，生活、电影和其他已创作的艺术作品也给了我创作灵感。

Our guitarist Santeri is the main creative force behind our songs, we’ll let him answer this one:

My personal creative progress is kind of simple because I write only riffs and create demo songs. I try to create stuff that I like and then record those song ideas to my computer. After that I send those demo songs to other members and ask about their opinion and together we finish those songs at the rehearsal place. What comes to creativity I try to create music without rules and try not to copy other bands or genres too much. Music that I create is a mix of my musical tastes I guess. Of course life, movies and other already created artworks gives me inspiration to do our stuff.

V: 你们乐队的录音效果很好，每个细节都听得很清楚。你们的专辑是在哪个录音棚录制的？哪位制作人为你们制作专辑？你们乐队的新专辑在2025年发行，录制过程顺利吗？

Your band's recording effect is excellent, and every detail can be heard clearly. Which studio did you record your albums in? Which producer made the album for you? Did the recording process of your band's new album release smoothly in 2025?

P: 我们在芬兰图苏拉的Lammaskallio工作室录制了这张专辑。这是一个著名的录音室，对我们来说绝对是正确的选择。它是一个旧谷仓，被改造成了一个正式的录音室，所以有一种与众不同的氛围。如果在录音过程中遇到困难，需要休息片刻呼吸一下新鲜空气，那么走出录音棚，一边欣赏乡村美景，一边整理思绪，也是不错的选择。这真是一次很棒的录音体验。在制作方面，我们的录音师Jussi Ruohola给了我们很多帮助并给了我们很多有意义的反馈。

We recorded the album at “Lammaskallio Studios” in Tuusula, Finland. It’s a well-known studio that definitely was the right choice for us. It’s an old barn that has been turned into a proper studio, so it has a different vibe. If you hit a wall during recording and need a few moments to get some fresh air, it’s good to step outside and just gather your thoughts whilst looking at the countryside. Truly a great recording experience. Production wise our sound engineer Jussi Ruohola helped us a lot and gave us meaningful feedback for sure.

What is the theme of your music about? Why did you choose this music theme? Do you want to express yourself through this music theme? You also created the lyrics section, who created these lyrics? What does his inspiration come from?

P: "Reclaiming Chaos"是一张非常激烈的专辑，专辑的主题是在没有他人帮助的情况下失去控制并最终重新获得控制，从这个意义上说，"Reclaimin Chaos"促进了内在的力量和对自己在这个疯狂世界中茁壮成长的能力的信念。这张专辑从头到尾都有一个歌词和音乐主题的故事。我们的歌手Joose Riihelä创作了这张专辑的所有歌词。我不能代表他说他的灵感来自哪里。但我们作为一个团队，能够以抒情和音乐的方式表达这些主题，我们绝对感到自豪。

Reclaiming Chaos is a pretty intense album and the main theme of the album is about losing control and eventually gaining back control without the help of others, in this sense Reclaiming Chaos promotes inner strength and belief in your own abilities to thrive within this crazy world. The album has a lyrically and musically themed story from start to finish for sure. Our singer Joose Riihelä created all the lyrics to this album. I can’t speak on his behalf where he gets his inspiration from. But we definitely feel proud as a group to be able to express these themes lyrically and musically.

Your previous works were all in a company called M.U.S.I.C. Records, an excellent French label. How did you establish contact and collaborate with this label? This year's new album, you have chosen to release it on Inverse Records in your country, which is also anexcellent label in your country. How did you get in touch with Inverse Records to collaborate? Are you satisfied with the work of these two brands?

P: 是的，我们确实是从Valentin和他的品牌开始我们的旅程的。这无疑是一次很棒的经历，尤其是因为我们只是想在芬兰以外的地方得到一些东西，能够在这么早的阶段得到他们的帮助是巨大的。很明显我在网上找到了Valentin的厂牌并把我们的“Fear Of Living”EP发给了他们，幸运的是，他们从一开始就很感兴趣。在"Reclaiming Chaos"中，我们这次真的很想与国内合作伙伴合作，Inverse的Joni一直在帮助我们，我们选择Inverse Records来制作这张专辑非常高兴。

Yes indeed we started our journey with Valentin and his label. It was a great experience for sure, especially since we were just trying to get something, anything, going outside of Finland and to be able to get their help at such an early stage was tremendous. I found Valentin’s label online obviously and sent our Fear Of Living EP to them, and luckily they were interested from the get go. With Reclaiming Chaos, we really wanted to work with a domestic partner this time around, and Joni from Inverse has been helping us out a lot and we could not be happier about choosing Inverse Records for this album.

Your logo design is very simple, but this design form is my personal favorite because I can easily remember your name. Who designed this logo for you? Your album artworks are also very unique in design, especially the 2022 EP album artworks that are inspired by frozen corpses. Who designed these artworks for you?

P: 我们衷心感谢您的积极反馈！Logo和乐队名称相关的事情总是很棘手，尤其是在组建新乐队并试图以某种方式创造令人难忘和突出的东西时。我们的Logo是由我们的歌手Joose设计的。是的如果你问我，我们的专辑艺术品非常壮观！“Fear Of Living”EP和“Reclaiming Chaos”是由芬兰伟大的Sakari Vinko设计的。我强烈建议你也去看看他的其他艺术作品。

We sincerely appreciate the positive feedback! Logo and band name related matters are always tough especially when starting a new band and trying to create something that is memorable and sticks out, in some way or another. Our logo was designed by our vocalist Joose. And yes, our album artworks are spectacular, if you ask me! The Fear Of Living EP and Reclaiming Chaos were designed by the great Sakari Vinko here in Finland. I highly recommend checking out his other artistic work as well.

First of all, congratulations to your band for releasing their first official album "Reclaiming Chaos" this year. The album features a wonderful Death/Thrash Metal, fast and neat Riff, reflecting the characteristics of Thrash Metal. In addition, some of the fierceness of Death Metal makes your work easy to remember. The unforgettable melody also enhances the listening experience of the entire album. What is your opinion on your own work?

P: 在我看来这张专辑是快、慢、旋律、攻击性和传统金属的一个非常有趣的混合体。这是八首歌的经典概念，其中一首是器乐，我们觉得这个概念与歌曲及其结构非常契合。这不是一个艰难的聆听，也不会花很长时间才能完成，相反我们提供了一种大约需要30多分钟的扎实金属体验。

In my view, the album is a really interesting mixture of fast, slow, melodic, aggressive and traditional metal. It’s the classic concept of eight songs with one being an instrumental, and we feel this concept really works well with the songs and their structure. It’s not a difficult listen, and will not take ages to finish, instead we are offering a solid metal experience that will take about 30+ minutes.

V: 你的乐队参加了哪些音乐节，哪些给你留下了深刻的印象？你能介绍一下当时的现场气氛吗？你的乐队计划在2025年参加哪些音乐节？

Which music festivals have your band participated in, and which ones have left a deep impression on you? Can you introduce the live atmosphere at that time? Which music festivals are your band planning to participate in 2025?

P: 我们计划在芬兰进行一次俱乐部巡演，庆祝"Reclaiming Chaos"的上映并可能在国外举办几场演出。

We are planning a club tour here in Finland to celebrate the release of Reclaiming Chaos, and potentially a few gigs abroad as well.

V: Indemon是一支优秀的乐队，我将永远支持和追随你们的乐队。我也希望通过这次采访吸引更多的中国歌迷关注和支持你们的乐队。最后你有什么想对中国球迷说的吗？

Indemon is an excellent band, and I will always support and follow your band. I also hope to attract more Chinese fans to follow and support your band through this interview. Do you have anything you want to say to Chinese fans in the end?
