今天采访到的是来自英国的Melodic Heavy Metal乐队Dovorian，2020年由Adam一个人组建并且在2021年发行了第一张正式专辑“The Light & Dark”，Adam一个人包揽了所有的创作，录制和后期工作，优美的旋律，精彩的Solo和刚劲有力的Riff赢得了歌迷们的关注，随后2022- 2023年发行的两张专辑也同样得到了关注和好评，2026年乐队发行了第四张正式专辑，在新专辑发行之际杂志与乐队的Adam取得联系进行了一次专访！

Today we interviewed Dovorian, a melodic heavy metal band from the UK. Formed by Adam in 2020, they released their first studio album, "The Light & Dark," in 2021. Adam handled all the songwriting, recording, and post-production himself. Their beautiful melodies, brilliant solos, and powerful riffs garnered attention from fans. Their two subsequent albums, released in 2022 and 2023, also received critical acclaim. The band will release their fourth studio album in 2026, and the magazine contacted Adam for an exclusive interview to coincide with the album's release!

V: 你好Adam，很高兴见到你，非常感谢你接受这次采访。我想这应该是你第一次接受中国杂志的采访吧。首先，请代我向你的中国粉丝们问好。你在2020年创立了Dovorian乐队。你是怎么想到要组建这支乐队的呢？

Hello Adam, it's a pleasure to meet you and I'm very grateful that you could participate in this interview. I think this is your first time being interviewed by a Chinese magazine. First of all, please say hello to all your Chinese fans. You founded the band Dovorian in 2020. How did you come up with the idea of forming this band?

A: 谢谢你们的采访！是的，这确实是我第一次接受中国杂志的采访——所以向中国粉丝们问好，希望你们一切都好！🙂 Dovorian是在疫情封锁期间成立的。我想当时大家都有很多空闲时间去尝试一些新事物或者做一些以前从未做过的事情！我弹吉他已经很多年了，从来没有真正认真地练习过，也没有创作过什么作品——大多只是为了好玩！我脑海里一直有个“如果……会怎样？”的问题——如果我真的认真对待这件事，一首歌会是什么样子呢？当时正巧Tom Englund（Evergrey乐队成员）在YouTube上发布了一段视频，表示愿意为乐队的音乐项目献唱——疫情期间音乐行业举步维艰！我当时觉得他指的不是像我这样的人，但我刚刚录制了一段纯音乐演奏视频（后来这段演奏视频成为了我们首张专辑"Lost"的第一首歌），所以我想着就把视频发给他吧。Tom与了那首歌的演唱，我想他很喜欢，所以我们又录制了几首歌！之后，他安排Jonas Ekdahl（前Evergrey乐队鼓手）负责录制不错的鼓点，并混音和母带处理了第一张专辑。

Thank you for interviewing me! Yes, this is absolutely by first interview for a Chinese magazine - so hello to you all over there, I hope you are well! 🙂 So Dovorian started during pandemic lockdown. I think everyone had plenty of time on their hands to try new things or things they'd never got around to previously! I've been noodling around on the guitar for years, never really seriously or writing anything - mostly just for fun! There was always the "what if?" question - what if I actually put some effort into it, what could a song sound like? This was timed with Tom Englund (Evergrey) posting a video on YouTube offering his services to sing on band's musical projects - the pandemic was a tough time in the music industry! I didn't think he meant people like me but I'd just recorded a youtube playthrough of an instrumental (which actually went on to become track 1 on the first album "Lost") so figured I'd send that. Tom sung on that, and I guess enjoyed it enough that we did a few more tracks!! He then organised for Jonas Ekdahl (former Evergrey drummer) program decent drums, mix and master the first album.

V: 乐队前三张专辑的所有歌曲都是你一人创作的。今年的新专辑，你邀请了一位新成员加入。你能介绍一下这位新成员吗？他的加入给乐队带来了哪些新的创作灵感？

You wrote and wrote all the songs for the band's first three albums yourself. For this year's new album, you invited a new member to join the band. Can you introduce the new member? What new creative inspiration has his addition brought to the band?

A: 这四张专辑的核心部分都是我和Tom共同创作的。我把伴奏发给他，他会根据需要进行重新编曲/施展他的魔法，并创作人声/旋律。你提到的新成员或许是Johan Niemann（Evergrey乐队的贝斯手），他为最新专辑创作了所有精彩的贝斯部分；又或许是Vikram Shankar（Within Temptation、Silent Skies乐队的成员），他参与了专辑的联合制作、混音和母带处理。

At their core all 4 albums are written by myself and Tom. I send instrumentals to him then he rearranges if necessary/works his magic and writes the vocals/vocal melodies. Perhaps the new person you are thinking of is Johan Niemann (Evergrey Bassist) who wrote all the killer bass lines on the latest album, or maybe Vikram Shankar (Within Temptation, Silent Skies) who co-produced, mix and mastered it

V: 你们四张专辑的录音质量都非常棒。请问是在哪个录音棚录制的？谁担任制作人？新专辑的录制进展顺利吗？

The recording quality of your four albums is excellent. Which studio did you record them in? Who produced them? Is the recording process for your new album going smoothly?

A: 谢谢！我是在我家的录音棚里录的，我管它叫“厨房”，哈哈。Tom的人声部分当然是在他自己的专业录音棚里录的。专辑由我制作，Tom也参与了一些制作，但真正让专辑臻于完美的还是Vikram。他通常会重新编排鼓组，添加一些额外的制作元素并进行混音。Vikram让专辑听起来如此出色 🙂 嘘，新专辑（第五张）是个秘密，不过录制进展顺利，我很满意，目前正在努力录制一些“真正的”鼓。

Thanks! For my part I recorded them in my home studio I call "The Kitchen" haha. Tom obviously has his professional home studio for the vocals. They are produced by myself, within input from Tom but it's really when Vikram comes along that the polish gets put on them. He re-programs the drums in most cases, adds additional production stuff and mixes them. It's Vikram that makes them sound so great 🙂 Shhh, the new (5th) album is a secret, but yeah it's gone well, really happy with it and just in the process of working to get some 'real' drums laid down.

V: 你的音乐主题是什么？你为什么选择这个主题？你想通过它表达什么？歌词也是你写的；这些歌词的灵感来自哪里？

What is the theme of your music about? Why did you choose this theme, and what do you want to express through it? You also wrote the lyrics; what inspired these lyrics?

A: 音乐主题并非我原创，Tom负责所有的演唱部分，并决定歌曲的主题。我想我唯一做的就是用我创作的器乐部分设定歌曲的初始基调。对我来说，这只是将一些我能产生共鸣的音符/和弦串联起来的过程，而这些音符取决于我当时的心情！之后就由Tom来完成。

I can't take any credit on the theme of the music, Tom writes all the vocals and decides the subject of the tracks. I guess the only thing I do is set the intial tone of the song with the instrumental I write. For me that's just a process of stringing some notes/chords together that I connect with, and those notes depend on my mood at the time! Tom then takes it from there.

V: 你的logo设计非常简洁，但我个人很喜欢这种风格，因为它让我很容易记住你的名字。这个logo是谁设计的？你的专辑封面也设计得非常漂亮。这些专辑封面是谁设计的？

Your logo design is very simple, but I personally really like this style because it makes it easy for me to remember your name. Who designed this logo for you? Your album art is also beautifully designed. Who designed these album artworks for you?

A: 很高兴你喜欢这个简洁的logo！我觉得它是我在尝试不同字体的时候偶然想到的。我甚至都记不清到底用了哪种字体，真是太烦人了！住在多佛（英国）的人被称为多佛人（Dovorian）（有点像住在伦敦的人被称为伦敦人）。我住在多佛，所以这很贴切🙂 我为所有的专辑封面都感到非常自豪，它们完全出自@john_kaimakamis之手，他是汤姆最初介绍给我的。约翰非常棒，他总是投入大量的时间和精力在专辑设计上——这些设计风格也延续到了他参与制作的歌词视频中。

I'm glad you like the simplicity of the logo! I think I came up with it just mucking around with different fonts. I can't even remember which font it it which is annoying! A person who lived in Dover (UK) is called a Dovorian (bit like people living in London being Londoners). I live in Dover so it makes sense 🙂 I'm super proud of all the album artwork and they are completely down to @john_kaimakamis who Tom originally introduced to me. John is super cool and always puts so much effort and time into the album designs - designs which then carry through to the lyric videos which he does too.

V: 你发行的四张专辑都是独立发行的CD，没有与任何唱片公司合作。为什么选择自己发行专辑而不是与唱片公司合作呢？

All four albums you released were self-released CDs; you did not collaborate with any label to release them. Why did you choose to release your own albums instead of collaborating with a label?

A: 唱片公司对我没有任何兴趣，而且独立发行很酷，因为你不用对任何人负责，可以随心所欲🙂 我纯粹是出于兴趣爱好，虽然梦想是以此为生，但这并非我的日常工作🙂

I've had no interest from record labels, and there's something cool about independantly releasing as you answer to no one and can do whatever you want 🙂 I purely do this for fun and whilst the dream of course would be to do it for a living, it's not my day job 🙂

V: 首先，恭喜你今年发行了新专辑。你的作品旋律优美动听，每个乐段的编排都非常精雕细琢。显然，你在创作歌曲上倾注了大量心血。你对自己的作品有什么看法呢？

First of all, congratulations on releasing your new album this year. Your works are very melodious and pleasant to listen to, and every riff arrangement is also very meticulous. It's clear that you put a lot of effort into creating your songs. What are your thoughts on your own work?

A: 谢谢你的赞美。正如我所说，这对我来说是一份充满爱的劳动。我为我们所做的一切感到自豪，并且我认为/希望专辑的质量能够有明显的提升——也许并没有，哈哈。但是，你知道——我会买来听，我想这才是最重要的🙂

Thank you for saying such nice things. As I say it's a labour of love for me. I'm proud of the stuff we've done and I think/hope there's a noticeable progression of quality through the albums - maybe there isn't lol. But, y'know - I'd buy it and listen to it and I guess that's what counts 🙂

V: 除了发行新专辑，你2026年还有哪些新计划？能透露一些细节吗？

Besides releasing a new album, what other new projects do you have planned for 2026? Can you share some details?

A: 今年余下的计划是完成第五张专辑的收尾工作，并在冬季来临前多出去进行一些桨板运动。一位朋友邀请我为他的音乐项目录制一首单曲的独奏部分，这对我来说是一次全新的尝试，也非常有趣。除此之外，大概就是随时记录灵光一闪的吉他连复段或旋律，以便日后将其发展成完整的作品！

Plans for the rest of this year are putting the finishing touches on the 5th album and to get out and do more paddleboarding before the weather turns for winter. I've been asked by a friend to do a guest solo on a track for his musical project, so that was something new to do and super fun. Other than that, I guess just recording the riffs/melodies as they come to me to make something of them down the line!

Your work is outstanding, and I will continue to follow and support your band. I also hope that through this interview, more Chinese fans will pay attention to and support you. The interview is about to end. Is there anything you would like to say to your Chinese fans?
