Necro Algorithm is a project built on a clear vision and the contributions of incredible collaborators who brought unique elements to the music. Jeroen was invited to play the drums, Catherine crafted the lyrics, and Pedro D-Void, a close friend since adolescence and an exceptional musician, handled the solos. Regarding your question about band members, there haven’t been any changes in the line up because the project is rooted in collaboration rather than a traditional band setup. Each collaborator has brought something truly special, and their contributions have been essential in shaping what Necro Algorithm has become. Jeroen’s dynamic drumming, Catherine’s lyrical depth, and Pedro’s powerful solos have elevated the project to new heights. There is also the possibility of Necro Algorithm performing live, where exceptional musicians would be carefully selected to bring the music to life on stage. In that scenario, we envision delivering an intense and emotional performance, with the focus fully on capturing the energy and essence of the songs.

Can you describe your creative process?

Our creative process for Necro Algorithm is deeply centered around the vision we have for the project. It begins with the conceptual framework, where we explore themes such as technological dominance, existential struggle, and humanity's place in a machine-driven world. Once we have a clear idea of the atmosphere we want to create, we move on to developing the music. The initial stage involves crafting raw, improvisational guitar riffs, spontaneous bursts of energy that form the foundation of our sound. These ideas are then brought to Jeroen, who transforms them with his drumming, capturing the intensity and rhythm that drive the music. From there, we layer additional instruments, carefully constructing each element to align with our vision. Once the instrumental groundwork is laid, we collaborate closely with Catherine to develop the lyrics. Her input is invaluable in translating complex themes into words that resonate with the music's intensity. After both the music and lyrics are finalized, we focus on mixing and production, ensuring that every nuance is captured and that the final product delivers both the raw power and philosophical depth that define Necro Algorithm. Throughout the entire process, our goal is to create something that is both sonically punishing and intellectually thought-provoking, a reflection of the struggles and chaos of existence itself.

Your first album released in 2024 was excellent in terms of recording results, what studio did you record the album in? Which producer produced your album?

Thank you very much for the kind words about our first album! The recording process for Necro Algorithm was entirely crafted by Melkor, who handled every aspect of the production. From the rhythm guitars, bass, keyboards, and samples (when needed) to creating all the initial ideas and the lyrical concept, everything stemmed from his creative vision. The lyrics were later refined in collaboration with Catherine, ensuring the themes were articulated with depth and precision. All recordings took place at Studios13, where Melkor also oversaw the mixing and mastering, maintaining full control over every detail to ensure the final sound aligned perfectly with the project's vision. The result is a fully self-produced album that captures Melkor's intent and the complex themes explored through Necro Algorithm, presenting a cohesive and deeply personal work.

The theme of Necro Algorithm revolves around the existential struggle between humanity and the overwhelming forces of technology and a machine-driven future. It explores how we are shaped and controlled by the systems we create, while confronting humanity's place in a universe that often feels indifferent and hostile. The music reflects this chaos and sense of powerlessness, blending brutal sounds with profound philosophical introspection. We chose this theme because it resonates deeply with our reflections on the current state of the world. In an era where technology serves as both a tool and a dominating force, we aim to explore the tension between human agency and the ever-growing power of machines. Through Necro Algorithm, we seek to express not only existential despair but also defiance against this dominance. As for the lyrics, the initial concepts were developed by Melkor, and Catherine Theodore brought them to life. Her writing captures the complex themes we wanted to convey, transforming abstract ideas into something tangible and emotionally powerful. The inspiration for the lyrics stems from both personal and collective experiences, touching on questions about existence, the fear of losing control to the systems surrounding us, and the search for meaning in a seemingly indifferent world. Catherine’s lyrical depth adds a layer of philosophical reflection that perfectly complements the intensity of the music.

Your first album was released on your home label Supergoat Wreck-Whordes / Studios13, a label that specializes in releasing Portuguese bands, how did you get in touch with this label to work with them, and were you satisfied with their work? Do you plan to release your album on CD?

Actually, Supergoat Wreck-Whordes / Studios13 isn’t a traditional label but rather a Bandcamp page created by Melkor to release all his projects digitally. It serves as a platform for sharing music, including Necro Algorithm, as well as other bands and projects entirely crafted by him. Essentially, every band featured there represents Melkor's work and vision. The process of releasing and promoting these projects is entirely managed by us, and it’s a monumental, time-consuming effort. From creation to promotion, everything requires immense dedication. In just the last three months of 2024, Melkor released 14 new albums, in addition to re-recording and remastering two older releases he wanted to refine. When these earlier works were first created, the technical knowledge for mixing and mastering was limited, but through persistence, experimentation, extensive research, and many sleepless nights, Melkor was able to enhance his skills and achieve significantly improved results. Regarding physical formats, there is a plan to release albums on CD in the future, but this depends on building a larger fanbase and attracting the interest of major labels. For now, digital releases remain the primary format, as they suit the current stage of these projects. However, physical releases are definitely something we aim to explore when the time is right.

First of all, congratulations on the release of your first official album “Eternal Echoes” this year. I was impressed by the clean sound, the fast, continuous riffs, and your melodies are very easy to remember, they are the most classic ones, and your drums are wonderful, the even speed of the percussions is really great! Outstanding, the singer's vocals are low and powerful, very penetrating, what do you think of your work?

We’re truly honored by your kind words about the album. Positive feedback is always inspiring, as it motivates us to keep improving and pushing boundaries. Negative feedback is equally important, as it helps identify areas for growth and refinement. For the sound of this album, the goal was to create something powerful and raw, yet memorable. The fast and relentless riffs were crafted to evoke a sense of urgency and struggle, perfectly aligning with the album’s overarching themes. The melodies, as noted, carry a classic touch because we believe in creating music that sticks with the listener, aggressive yet evocative. The vocals are undoubtedly a central element of the album. They were designed to be as low and powerful as possible, cutting through the intensity of the music to convey the raw emotion behind the existential themes. Melkor, who handles all vocals for Necro Algorithm, ensured they matched the ferocity and depth of the music. The result is a vocal performance that is fierce, penetrating, and impactful, embodying the weight of the lyrics and complementing the album’s brutal sound. In 2024, Necro Algorithm has not performed any live shows yet, and there haven’t been invitations or offers for live performances so far. Because of this, the focus has primarily been on the studio and creative process. However, if opportunities for live shows arise, they will be seriously considered, and the idea of bringing the project to the stage is definitely on the table. Plans for live performances are already in development. Discussions have taken place with a drummer and a bassist, and there’s hope that Pedro D-Void will also be available to join if needed. Additionally, other talented guitarists are being considered to complete the lineup, ensuring a strong and cohesive live presence. When it comes to live shows, the atmosphere will embrace a simple, old-school approach while maintaining a carefully crafted and cohesive image. The priority will always be on delivering a powerful musical performance, with minimal errors and maximum intensity, creating a truly engaging experience for the audience. The essence of a live performance lies in the energy exchanged with the crowd, and if the opportunity arises, Necro Algorithm will aim to ensure that every show is both impactful and memorable.
V: 2025年你们还有什么新计划？比如创作、录制一些新歌或者发行新专辑，能透露一下吗？
What other new ones do you have going on in 2025? Like writing, recording some new songs or releasing a new album, can you shed some light on that?

Since December 2024, work has already begun on a significant amount of new music and projects. The collaboration with the exceptional guitarist Pedro D-Void has been a highlight, with his extraordinary solos perfectly complementing Melkor's vision while bringing his own distinct flair. Progress has been steady, and before long, a new Necro Algorithm album will be released, along with other projects currently in development. The immediate priority is the split album Doomed Algorithms with Cult Of Alcaeus, which is set to be released soon. It was Cult Of Alcaeus who initiated the collaboration, selecting Necro Algorithm as the partner for this project. Their support has been invaluable, especially in terms of promotion, where their guidance has made a significant impact. The gratitude for their time, effort, and patience in this endeavor is immense. Thanks are also due to Nova Era Records for their dedication and belief in the split album. Their hard work has been crucial in bringing this vision to life and ensuring it reaches its full potential.
