今天采访到的是来自意大利的Industrial/Thrash Metal乐队Infection Code，组建于1999年的Infection Code乐队是意大利一支非常有资历的老牌乐队，从2000年开始乐队频繁发行专辑，Infection Code的作品混了Industrial/Thrash Metal等元素，冰冷，无情，机械化的Industrial元素，加上快速，疯狂的Thrash Metal让这支乐队迅速成为意大利最炙手可热的乐队之一，他们的作品仿佛在讲述地球上人类文明的毁灭和衰退，如果你是Godflesh、Ministry、Fear Factory、Sepultura、Red Harvest和Meshuggah等乐队的歌迷的话，那么一定要关注这支乐队了。今年乐队在Nadir Music厂牌发行了他们的最新EP专辑“De Reptilium Arcanis”，在新专辑发行之际杂志与乐队的歌手Gabriele取得联系进行了一次专访！

Today, we are interviewing Infection Code, an Italian industrial/thrash metal band. Formed in 1999, Infection Code is a seasoned veteran of the Italian scene; they have been releasing albums frequently since 2000. Their sound blends industrial and thrash metal elements—combining cold, ruthless, and mechanical industrial textures with the speed and frenzy of thrash—propelling them to become one of Italy's hottest acts. Their music seems to narrate the decline and destruction of human civilization on Earth. If you are a fan of bands like Godflesh, Ministry, Fear Factory, Sepultura, Red Harvest, or Meshuggah, this is a band you definitely need to check out. They recently released their latest EP, *De Reptilium Arcanis*, via the Nadir Music label, and to mark the occasion, we caught up with the band's vocalist, Gabriele, for an exclusive interview.

Hello there—it’s a pleasure to meet you, and thank you so much for taking part in this interview. I believe this is the first time your band has been interviewed by a Chinese magazine. To start things off, please say hello to all your Chinese fans. INFECTION CODE is a long-standing, veteran band formed back in 1999; how did the band originally come together?

Hello, this is Gabriele, vocalist of the band. First of all, thanks a lot for your support and for giving an Italian metal band the opportunity to be heard.Yes, this is the first time we've been interviewed by a Chinese metal magazine, and it's a great pleasure and honour for us to be featured in Volcano Magazine.We hope to gain some Chinese fans and spread our noise throughout the Chinese underground metal scene. A big hello from Infection Code to all the Chinese metalheads!The band was formed in 1999, following an idea shared by Ricky, Enrico (our former bassist), and me. The goal was to play loud and fast and develop a sound that combined modern thrash metal and industrial metal, drawing inspiration from bands such as Godflesh, Ministry, Fear Factory, Sepultura, Red Harvest, and Meshuggah.

Since your inception, the only lineup change occurred in 2023 when you brought in a new bassist; the other members are all original members. Why did the first bassist leave the band? How did the new bassist join? Are you satisfied with the new member's work? What changes has the new member brought to the band?

G: 抱歉，你的问题中存在一些误解。遗憾的是，多年来乐队的阵容经历过多次变动，特别是在2002年，我们遭遇了第一次人员更迭——乐队的创始吉他手Macha离队了。不久之后，我们又失去了一位吉他手；在随后的岁月里，又有几位吉他手和两位贝斯手相继离开。自建队之初至今，Ricky和Gabriele一直是乐队的核心创始成员。

I'm sorry, but there are a few mistakes in your question. Unfortunately, the band's lineup has changed many times over the years, especially since 2002, when we suffered our first lineup change. Macha, the band's founding guitarist, left the band. Shortly afterwards, we lost another guitarist, and over the years we've had several more guitarists and two bass players leave the band.Since the early days, Ricky and Gabriele have been the founding members.

You are all long-time friends, so the creative process comes very naturally to you; you know each other well and understand the kind of songs the others want to create. Could you tell us a bit about your creative process? You released a new album this year—did the creative process go smoothly?

G: 我们的创作过程其实很容易解释。我们有很多灵感，正处于一段重要且精彩的创作期——这种状态年复一年，每天都在持续。我们会把这些想法带到排练室，然后开始演奏。很多时候，这些想法会被舍弃，但有时也会涌现出值得进一步打磨的有趣版本。我们每个人都融入了自己的音乐背景和品味，目标是让歌曲不断演变并赋予其特定的内涵。我们在制作"De Reptilium Arcanis"以及其他专辑时，都采用了同样的方法。我们属于老派风格，依然钟情于排练室和录音棚。

Our creative processi s very easy to explain. Weh ave many ideas and we live an important and grat crative period. It happens every day for every yares. So We bring these ideas to the rehearsal room and we start to play. Many times, these ideas are discarded, but sometimes interesting versions emerge that are worth working on. Each of us brings our own musical influences and tastes, with the goal of helping the song evolve and giving it a certain meaning.We used the same approach for “De Reptilium Arcanis” and for our other albums as well. We're old school. We still love rehearsal rooms and recording studios.

V: 你们每一张专辑的录音质量都有显著提升——当然，随着时间的推移，技术进步在其中也起到了重要作用。你们在哪些录音棚录制专辑？由谁担任制作人？新专辑的录制过程顺利吗？

There has been a noticeable improvement in the recording quality of each of your albums—though, of course, technological advancements over time have played a significant role in that. Which studios did you use for your albums, and who produced them? Is the recording process for the new album going smoothly?

G: 是的，我们在职业生涯中用过许多录音棚，但对于《De Reptilium Arcanis》，我们选择了 Tommy Talamanca 的 Nadir Studios。他不仅是一位技艺精湛、才华横溢的音乐家，更是一位懂得如何激发乐队最佳状态的制作人。我们之前的专辑《Culto》也是由他操刀的。我们对他的工作成果感到无比满意。无论是《De Reptilium Arcanis》还是《Culto》，在制作层面都经过了精心的打磨。

Yes we have used many recording studios during our career but for “De Reptilium Arcanis” we We chose Tommy Talamanca's Nadir Studios. Besides being a skilled and brilliant musician, he is also a producer who knows how to bring out the best in a band. We chose him for our previous album, “Culto”, as well. We couldn't be happier or more satisfied with the work he has done. Both “De Reptilium Arcanis” and “Culto” are albums that have been meticulously crafted in terms of production.

V: 关于人类及其衰亡的个人见解——这些构成了你们音乐的主题。为什么选择这些主题？你们希望通过它们表达什么？关于歌词创作，是谁负责撰写的？灵感又源自何处？

Personal visions regarding humanity and its decline—these are the themes of your music. Why did you choose these themes, and what do you aim to express through them? You also wrote the lyrics; who penned them, and what was the source of the inspiration?

G: 在我们音乐生涯的早期，创作的主题主要围绕社会议题，探讨在一个充斥着不公、社会矛盾、冲突以及经济与政治问题的技术高度发达的资本主义社会中，人类生活的种种争议。我一直负责作词，可以说，直到2018年发行的第六张专辑"Dissenso"，歌词内容都聚焦于这些主题。从"In.R.I."这张专辑开始，我决定稍微转变一下方向，试图为听众提供不同的视角，并引入了一些受我其他文学兴趣（如科幻小说）启发的元素。事实上，我们的最新专辑中就包含了一些对中国作家刘慈欣的巨著"三体"的致敬与引用，同时也借鉴了H. P. Lovecraft的哥特与恐怖文学、Stephen King的惊悚小说、Valerio Evangelisti的作品以及其他作家的风格。我们近期的专辑在风格上融入了许多我读过的书籍与故事的影子，这些阅读经历为我的歌词创作提供了巨大的助益。

At the beginning of our career, the main themes were society and the controversies surrounding human life within a highly technological, capitalist society plagued by injustice, social tensions, conflicts, and economic and political problems.I have always been responsible for writing the lyrics, and I would say that up until Dissenso, our sixth album, released in 2018, the lyrics focused on these themes.Starting with In.R.I., I decided to change direction a little, in order to offer the listener a different perspective, introducing elements inspired by some of my other literary influences, such as science fiction. In fact, our latest album contains a reference to the great novel The Three-Body Problem by Chinese author Liu Cixin, as well as to the Gothic and horror literature of the great H. P. Lovecraft, Stephen King's thrillers, Valerio Evangelisti, and other writers.Our latest albums contain many stylistic references to books and stories I have read, which have helped me enormously in writing the lyrics.

V: 你们曾与Beyond Productions、New LM Records、2KK Records和Nadir Music等优秀厂牌合作发行专辑。你们是如何与他们建立联系并达成合作的？对他们的工作表现满意吗？

You have collaborated with excellent labels such as Beyond Productions, New LM Records, 2KK Records, and Nadir Music to release your albums. How did you connect and partner with them, and are you satisfied with their work?

G: 我们曾与Tommy Talamanca、Eraldo Bernocchi和Billy Anderson等众多艺人及制作人合作，也与2KK Records、Beyond Productions、Time To Kill Records、New LM Records和Nadir Music等多家唱片厂牌有过往来。这些合作经历都很愉快。虽然有些合作本可以进一步深入挖掘，但这就是常态。对于最近两张专辑，我们一直与Nadir Music合作进行宣传，同时也恢复了与他们在专辑录制方面的合作。早在21世纪初，我们就是在Nadir Studios与Tommy Talamanca一起起步的。后来几年我们辗转于不同的录音室，但随着"Culto"这张专辑的推出，我们终于“回家”了！"De Reptilum Arcanis"的制作水准极高，我们对最终成果感到无比满意！！

We have worked with numerous artists and producers, such as Tommy Talamanca, Eraldo Bernocchi, and Billy Anderson, as well as with several record labels, including 2KK Records, Beyond Productions, Time To Kill Records, New LM Records, and Nadir Music. All these experiences have been positive. Some of them could have been explored further, but that's how things go.For our last two albums, we have been working with Nadir Music, who handle our promotion, and at the same time, we have resumed our collaboration with them when it comes to recording our albums.We were born at Nadir Studios with Tommy Talamanca back in the early 2000s. Then, for a few years, we moved around to different recording studios, but with Culto, we finally came back home!De Reptilum Arcanis has an amazing production. We couldn't be happier with the result!!

V: 你们的标志设计非常简洁，但这恰恰是我个人最喜欢的风格，因为它让乐队名字很容易被记住。是谁为你们设计的？你们的专辑封面艺术也非常独特——这是由谁创作的？设计背后有什么特殊含义吗？

Your logo design is very simple, yet it is the style I personally like best because it makes your name easy to remember. Who designed it for you? Your album artwork is also very unique—who created it, and is there any specific meaning behind the designs?

G: 我们的标志虽然简洁，但我认为它具有很强的视觉冲击力。它不像典型的死亡金属或激流金属乐队标志那样，很难将其归入某种特定类别，也不完全局限于极端金属的美学风格。我们的专辑封面（尤其是从"In.R.I."开始的作品）都是由Simone创作的，他是一位非常有才华且专业的意大利艺术家。我们非常欣赏他的个人风格，这与我们歌词中探讨的主题完美契合。我们的封面不仅描绘了歌词中的内容，还极力突显了每张专辑独特的氛围。

Our logo is very simple, but I think it has a strong visual impact. It's not the typical death metal or thrash metal logo. You could say it's difficult to categorize and isn't strictly tied to the aesthetics of extreme metal.Our album covers, especially from In.R.I. onwards, have all been created by Simone, a very talented and professional Italian artist. We really like his personal style, which fits perfectly with the themes explored in our lyrics.Our covers portray what's described in the lyrics and strongly emphasize the atmosphere of each album.

First of all, congratulations on the release of your latest album this year. You are a classic, long-standing band; your music combines the ferocity and viciousness of death/thrash metal with the coldness of industrial metal—featuring heavy guitar riffs and ruthless melodies that pack a powerful punch. What are your own thoughts on your work? How does the new album differ from your previous ones?

G: 首先，感谢你们对我们音乐风格及特质的赞赏。我认为"De Reptilium Arcanis"是我们迄今为止创作的最为成熟、完整的专辑。这很大程度上归功于我们历经多年风雨后，终于拥有了一支稳定且团结的阵容；如今，我们所有的创作努力都旨在服务于歌曲与整张专辑的整体呈现，而"De Reptilium Arcanis"正是这一理念的完美体现。专辑中既保留了我们标志性的Industrial Metal元素，又融入了Death Metal与Thrash Metal的影响。我们对最终的成果感到非常满意。

First of all, thank you for your compliments regarding our sound and our musical identity. I think “De Reptilium Arcanis” is the most complete album we have written so far, also because, after many years and many ups and downs, we finally have a stable and cohesive lineup, where all our creative efforts have to serve the song and the album, and “De Reptilium Arcanis” represents all of this. There are distinctive elements of our industrial metal sound, along with death metal and thrash metal influences. We are really satisfied with the result.

V: 作为一支资深乐队，你们参加过许多音乐节的演出。哪些音乐节给你们留下了深刻印象？能否描述一下当时的现场氛围？此外，你们计划在 2026 年参加哪些音乐节？

As a veteran band, you have performed at numerous music festivals. Which ones have left a lasting impression on you, and could you describe the atmosphere at those events? Also, which festivals do you plan to play at in 2026?

G: 在我们的职业生涯中，我们参加过无数场演出，其中很大一部分是音乐节。遗憾的是，受限于工作安排等各种原因，我们从未进行过大规模的巡演，但我们对此并无怨言。演出经历中既有令人捧腹的趣事，也有因主办方组织不善而导致的糟糕状况。相比于单一的专场演出，我们其实更偏爱音乐节这种形式。在音乐节上，你能真切地感受到一种独特的氛围：那里汇聚了无数金属乐迷，还有数不胜数的乐队可以结交、交流观点与灵感。当然，还有喝不完的啤酒和琳琅满目的周边商品可以选购！今年夏天，我们在意大利最重要的两个音乐节——“Luppolo In Rock”和“Kaptura Fest Metal Midnight Forest”——进行了演出。目前，我们正与唱片公司 Nadir Music 合作，筹划 2027 年夏天的演出事宜。在此期间，我们将在秋冬两季继续在各类 Livehouse（俱乐部）进行演出。

We have played many shows throughout our career, and many of them have been festivals. Unfortunately, for various reasons, including our work commitments, we have never organized any major, extensive tours, but we really can’t complain. There have been some funny situations, and others that were rather tragic because of the way certain events were organized. Festivals are always the kind of situation we prefer much more than a single show. You can really feel a unique atmosphere. There are so many metalheads, countless bands to make friends with and exchange opinions and ideas. And then there’s always plenty of beer and lots of merchandise to buy!!! This summer we played at Luppolo In Rock and Kaptura Fest Metal Midnight Forest, two of the most important festivals in Italy. We are currently working together with our record label, Nadir Music, on some other opportunities for summer 2027. In the meantime, throughout the autumn and winter, we will continue playing clubs.
