Today's interview is with Pestilent Scars, a Melodic Death Metal band from Finland, formed in the winter of 2022 - 2023 by Captured's drummer A.K and guitarist Elias, in 2023 singer Pasi joined the band, then Topi and Sampo joined the band as bass and guitarists to complete the lineup. After completing the lineup, the band released five singles between 2023 and 2024, and the band's icy melodies, complex arrangements, great solos and powerful vocals have quickly made the band one of the hottest bands in Finland right now, and this year the band is about to release their first official album! “Meadows of Misfortune” is released on the famous Finnish label Inverse Records, and on the occasion of the release of the new album the magazine contacted Pestilent Scars through Inverse Records for an interview!

Hello brother nice to meet you and thank you very much for taking part in this interview, I think this is the first time that your band has been interviewed by a Chinese magazine, first of all hello to all the Chinese fans, what year did Pestilent Scars form? How did you form the band?
P: 你们好！首先感谢你们邀请我们！Pestilent Scars乐队成立于2022年和2023年之间的冬天，我（Pasi）是在2023年春天加入的。乐队是在 A.K（鼓手）和Elias（主音吉他手）的前乐队 Captured的废墟上组建的，当时他们决定把乐队变成一个双人项目，但仍想以全乐队的形式演奏这种音乐，只不过采用了一些不同的方式。
Hello guys! Thanks for having us, first of all! Pestilent Scars was formed in the winter between 2022 & 2023, and I (Pasi) joined later in the spring of 2023. The band was formed through the ashes of A.K’s (drums) and Elias’ (lead guitar) former band called Captured, after they decided to make it a two-man project but still wanted to play that kind of music in a full band setting, but with a little bit of a different approach.

You guys are all first generation members of the band, you know each other very well and I think that makes it easy when it comes to songwriting because you know what kind of songs each other need to create, can you describe your songwriting process?
P: 我们的歌曲创作过程有两种：一种是我们一口气写完一首歌的基础，然后把想法交给Elias，他再把这些想法转化成音乐形式，之后再把这些想法完善成他自己的东西；另一种是Elias或 A.K.自己写歌或者他们自己写歌，等我们对作品满意后再教给我们。
Our songwriting process can go one of two ways; we write the foundation of a song in one sitting and give ideas to Elias who then puts them into musical form, later refining those ideas to something of his own, or it's just Elias and/or A.K. writing the songs by himself or themselves and teaching it to us once satisfied with the product.
V: 你们乐队的作品在录音效果方面令人印象深刻，你们是在哪个录音棚录制的专辑？哪位制作人制作了你们的专辑？新专辑的录制过程如何？
Your band's work is very impressive in terms of recording results, what studio did you record the album in? Which producer produced your album? How was the recording process for the new album?
P: 我们在Oulu的Space Wolf工作室录制了这张专辑，由我们自己制作，音响师提供了一些混音意见。这张专辑的制作过程最初让人感觉相当仓促，但最终显然取得了很好的效果。
We recorded the album at Space Wolf Studios here in Oulu, and produced it by ourselves with some mixing input by the sound guy. The process of making the album initially felt quite rushed, but it obviously worked out great in the end.

What is the theme of your music about? Why did you choose this musical theme? What do you want to express through this musical theme? Did you write the lyrics, who wrote the lyrics and what inspired them?
P: 我们的主旋律是忧郁和经常被压抑的情绪，如悲伤和愤怒。我们之所以选择这些主题，是因为这些情绪对我们来说，就像对每个人一样，与生活息息相关，我们希望通过我们的音乐，将我们的情绪宣泄给其他有共鸣的人。我们的歌词深受Taneli Jarva、David Gold、Mark Lanegan和Jay Munly等艺术家的启发。
Our main themes are melancholy and often bottled emotions like grief and rage. We chose these themes because those emotions are to us, as with everyone, really relevant in life, and through our music, we wish to lend our emotional outlet to other people who can relate. Our lyrics are heavily inspired by the lyricism of artists like Taneli Jarva, David Gold, Mark Lanegan and Jay Munly.
V: 你们的Logo非常独特，是谁为你们设计了这个Logo？你们的专辑封面设计也非常精美，是谁为你们设计了这个封面？
Your logo is very unique, who designed this logo for you and your album artwork is beautifully designed, who designed this artwork for you?
P: 我们所有的封面设计都是由我们的节奏吉他手Topi设计完成的，有时Pasi也会加入一些创意。
All of our artwork is designed and done by our rhythm guitarist, Topi, sometimes with creative input by Pasi.
V: 你们的所有作品都是由Inverse Records唱片公司发行的，这是贵国一个很好的唱片公司，你们是如何与这个唱片公司取得联系并进行合作的？你们对他们的工作满意吗？
All of your work is released on Inverse Records, a great label in your country, how did you get in touch with this label to collaborate? Are you satisfied with their work?
P: 在我们开始与Inverse Records合作之前，我们非常迫切地想找到一个能让我们加入的唱片公司，而Inverse是第一个如此兴奋地回应我们的唱片公司，这给我们留下了非常深刻的印象，从那时起我们就一直很高兴能与他们合作。
Before we started working with Inverse Records, we were really desperate to find a label to get under, and Inverse was the first one to answer to us with such excitement, which really made a great impression on us and we've been happy to work with them ever since.

First of all, congratulations on the upcoming release of your first official album “Meadows of Misfortune”, it's a powerful piece of work, fast, continuous, great playing, ferocious vocals impressed me, the drummer's performance is also great, fast, steady strikes, what do you think of your work? What do you think of your work?
P: 我们对这张专辑的自豪感和满足感真的无法形容。终于能让大家听到这张专辑了，我们感到非常激动。
The pride and satisfaction we have with this album is really indescribable. We are absolutely stoked to finally have it out for people to hear.
V: 你参加过哪些现场演出，哪些现场演出给你留下了深刻印象，你能描述一下现场的气氛以及你计划在2025年参加哪些其他现场演出？
What live shows have you been to, what live shows have impressed you, and can you describe the atmosphere, and what other live shows are you planning to attend in 2025?
P: 这是Topi说的；在我参加过的所有演出中，印象最深刻的是Ghost世界级的戏剧表演，Sabaton的活力、舞台表现力和迷人的幽默，Alice Cooper的摇滚光环，当然还有Rammstein 的整场演出。
This one’s from Topi; Through all the shows I've been to, the most impressing were Ghost with their world-class theatrical performance, Sabaton with their energy, stage-presence and charming humor, Alice Cooper’s Rock ‘N’ Roll aura, and of course Rammstein in their entirety.
V: 除了发行你的第一张专辑外，你们在2025年还计划做哪些新工作，能透露一些信息吗？
What are some of those new things you guys are working on in 2025 besides releasing your first album, and can you shed some light on that?
P: 嗯，今年上半年会更偏向于媒体，因为我们乐队的一半成员都要去服兵役，但一旦我们回到日常生活中，我们就会专注于制作大量新音乐，而且肯定会登上很多舞台！
Well, the first half of this year will be more media oriented, as half of our band are attending their mandatory army service, but as soon as we get back to our everyday life, we’ll be focusing on making a whole lot of new music and definitely hitting a lot of stages!

Pestilent Scars is a very young band, but a very good and promising band, I will always support and pay attention to your band, and I hope that through this interview more Chinese fans will pay attention to and support your band, what would you like to say to your Chinese fans in the end?
