今天采访到的是来自法国的单人Black Metal, Dark Ambient乐队Lugubre Cenacle，2006年组建的Lugubre Cenacle乐队最初由Wulfrost和他的一位好友组建的，2008年发行了一张发行了一张7首歌曲的Demo引起高度关注，2011年乐队在Foedus Aeternus厂牌发行了他们的第一张正式专辑“Désillusion”，这张专辑拥有着它自己独特的美感，在运用了Black Metal的基础上加入了大量的Dark Ambient的元素这样更加突出乐队黑暗的本质，也更加的突出了作品整体的氛围感，不过这张专辑发行之后乐队开始长达13年的“休眠期”，直到2024年Wulfrost才开始创作新作品并且在2024 - 2026年期间发行了4首单曲，在今年发行新单曲之际杂志与乐队的Wulfrost取得联系进行了一次专访！

Today we’re interviewing Lugubre Cenacle, a one-man Black Metal and Dark Ambient band from France. Formed in 2006, Lugubre Cenacle was originally founded by Wulfrost and a close friend. In 2008, they released a 7-track demo that garnered significant attention. In 2011, the band released their first full-length album, Désillusion, on the Foedus Aeternus label. The album possesses a unique aesthetic, blending Black Metal with extensive elements of Dark Ambient to further highlight the band’s dark essence and enhance the overall atmospheric quality of the work. However, following the album’s release, the band entered a 13-year “hiatus.” It wasn’t until 2024 that Wulfrost began creating new material, releasing four singles between 2024 and 2026. With the release of their new single this year, the magazine reached out to Wulfrost for an exclusive interview!

Hello, Wulfrost. It’s a pleasure to meet you, and thank you very much for participating in this interview—I believe this is your first time being interviewed by a Chinese magazine. To start things off, please say hello to all your Chinese fans. In which year was the band Lugubre Cenacle formed, and how did you go about establishing it?

W: 你好，感谢邀请，能与地球另一端的乐迷交流真是太高兴了！乐队其实是在2006年左右成立的。当时，我正在创作我的第一批作品，我的一位好友——一位贝斯手兼主唱——提议我们一起启动一个新项目。Lugubre Cénacle这个名字其实就是他起的。

Hello, thank you for having me, it's a pleasure to reach fans on the other side of the globe! The band actually started around 2006. Back then, I was writing my first compositions, and a good friend of mine, a bassist and singer, suggested we start a new project together. The name Lugubre Cénacle actually came from him.

V: 既然你是“一人乐队”，创作过程应该会更加顺其自然，因为你可以完全按照自己的构想进行创作。能跟我们聊聊你的创作过程吗？今年发布的新单曲是怎样创作出来的？

Since you are a one-man band, you likely find the songwriting process flows more naturally, as you can create exactly according to your own vision. Could you tell us a bit about your creative process? How did the creation of the new single you released this year unfold?

W: 我通常从一个即兴段落或旋律开始，一旦感觉扎实了，就会围绕它构建歌曲结构，并思考这首歌如何从最初的灵感发展出来。我会尽量快速完成一个粗略版本，之后再对每个部分进行打磨和充实。每首歌都是在考虑人声之前就写好的，所以一旦开始写歌词和录制人声，我就得为人声留出更多空间。就"Sealed Shell of Existence"这首歌而言，最后两分钟的部分与初版相比改动很大。在四分钟左右出现第一个高潮之后，曲子回到了早期的一段吉他即兴段落，感觉似乎失去了本应将听众带向最终即兴段落的势头。因此，为了确保一切都能朝着我想要的情感氛围推进，我愿意舍弃整段内容，尝试完全不同的处理方式。

I usually start from a riff or a melody, and once it feels solid, I build a structure around it and figure out how the song can evolve from that first idea. I try to get a rough version done quickly, then refine and flesh out every part afterward. Every song was written before I thought about vocals, so I had to make more room for the voice once I started writing and recording vocals. For 'Sealed Shell of Existence' specifically, the last two minutes changed a lot from the first version. After the first climax around the four-minute mark, the track went back to one of the earlier guitar riffs, and it felt like it lost the momentum that was supposed to carry the listener to the final riff. So to make sure everything builds toward the emotional feeling I want, I'm willing to scrap a whole section and try something completely different.

V: 你的作品音质出众，每个细节都处理得无可挑剔。是在哪家录音棚录制的？制作人是谁？新单曲的录制过程顺利吗？

Your work boasts outstanding audio quality, with every detail handled impeccably. Which studio did you record at, and who was the producer? Did the recording process for the new single go smoothly?

W: 谢谢，我真的很感激。与首张专辑不同，我现在在自家录音棚录制所有内容时感觉轻松多了，主要是因为这样我可以在需要时花上几周甚至几个月的时间反复打磨各个部分。而且因为这次项目中我负责主唱，需要空间和隐私，所以在家里录音对我来说更合适，哈哈。至于重新放大、混音和母带处理，我与位于法国的Conkrete Studio的Mobo合作。我对他在最近几首单曲中完成的出色工作非常满意，和他合作总是很顺利且愉快。

Thank you, I really appreciate that. Unlike the first album, I'm now much more comfortable recording everything at my home studio, mainly because it lets me work and rework parts for weeks or even months if needed. And since I'm singing on this project, I need space and privacy, so recording at home works much better for me, haha. For reamping, mixing, and mastering, I work with Mobo at Conkrete Studio, based in France. I'm really happy with the outstanding work he's done on these last few singles, and it's always smooth and enjoyable working with him.

V: 你在2011年发行首张专辑后便淡出公众视野，直到2024年才重新开始创作并发布新作品；是什么原因让您缺席了这么多年？

You disappeared from the public eye after releasing your first album in 2011 and only resumed creating and releasing new work in 2024; what caused you to step away for so many years?

W: 由于生活中发生了许多事情，我花了很长时间才重新回归。我忙于事业，辗转各地，而且我觉得自己也需要时间来汲取新灵感，并向不同的音乐方向发展。在某个时刻，我也意识到自己真的需要通过创作再次绽放光彩，再次以这种方式表达自我。其实早在2017年我就开始创作新作品了，但那时我刚从法国搬到魁北克，需要学习如何唱歌——这是我之前从未练习过的。

It took me a long time to come back to this because of a lot of things happening in my life. I was busy with my career, moved around a lot, and I think I also needed time to gather new ideas and grow into a different musical direction. At some point, I also realized I really needed to flourish again through composition, to express myself in that way again. I actually started composing the new material back in 2017, but I moved from France to Quebec around then, and I needed to learn how to sing, something I'd never practiced before.

V: 你的标志已经重新设计了；原来的标志采用的是风格化的字体和一只手，而新的标志则采用了更简洁的设计。我个人更喜欢新标志，因为它让你们的名称非常容易记住——是谁为你们设计的？你们的专辑封面通常采用暗黑风格，但最新单曲的设计却相当清新新颖；是谁为你们创作了这些视觉设计？

Your logo has been redesigned; the original featured stylized lettering and a hand, whereas the new one employs a much simpler design. Personally, I prefer the new logo because it makes your name very easy to remember—who designed it for you? Your album artwork usually has a dark aesthetic, but the design for your latest single is quite fresh and novel; who created these visuals for you?

W: 很高兴新标志更符合你的期待，这正是我的初衷。我希望摆脱极端金属乐队标志一贯的风格，让名字更易于辨识和记忆。如今作为一名艺术家，要吸引人们的注意力并不容易，所以每一个细节都至关重要。至于标志本身，我只是不断寻找能体现这个项目精髓的字体，直到找到感觉对的那一款。至于封面艺术，我平时在动画行业担任3D/纹理师，所以所有内容都是用2D/3D软件创作的。从单曲"Mental Jail"开始，我还开始融入AI生成的元素，以探索创作流程中的新方法。

I'm glad the new logo works better for you, that was exactly the goal. I wanted to move away from the usual extreme metal logo style to make the name easy to read and remember. It's not easy to catch people's attention as an artist today, so every detail matters. For the logo itself, I just searched for fonts that reflected the project until one felt right. As for the artwork, I work as 3D/texture artist in animation, so I create everything using 2D/3D software. Since the 'Mental Jail' single, I've also started incorporating AI-generated elements to explore a new approach in my process.

V: 你与Foedus Aeternus合作发行了首张专辑；这次合作是如何促成的？你对厂牌的工作满意吗？

You released your first album in collaboration with Foedus Aeternus; how did that partnership come about? Are you satisfied with the label's work?

W: 没错，其实是我的朋友Mz（Arvakh、Helel）帮我在他的录音室录制了这张专辑，并完成了混音和母带处理。他当时与Foedus Aeternus（Eymeric）有联系，便把专辑发给了他。Eymeric非常喜欢这张专辑并提出了合作邀请，这让我倍感荣幸，因为他最初正是两支对我影响深远的乐队（Wolok/Devilish Era）的幕后推手。我对厂牌当时的工作处理非常满意，而且在那段时间获得几家网络杂志的好评也极大地提振了我的动力，这确实增强了我对这个项目的信心。

That's right, it was actually my friend Mz (Arvakh, Helel) who helped me record the album and mixed/mastered it at his studio. He was in touch with Foedus Aeternus (Eymeric) and sent him the album. Eymeric really liked it and offered a collaboration, and I was really flattered by that, since he was originally behind two bands that inspired me a lot (Wolok/Devilish Era). I was very satisfied with how the label handled things at the time, and getting good reviews from a few webzines around that period was also a huge motivation boost, it really strengthened my confidence in the project.

V: 忧郁，炼金术这是你音乐的主题。你为何选择这个主题，又希望通过它表达什么？歌词也是由你创作的，创作灵感来自哪里？

Melancholy, Alchemy this is the theme of your music. Why did you choose this theme, and what do you wish to express through it? You also wrote the lyrics; what inspired them?

W: 对我来说，这其实关乎我们如何看待自己、他人以及所处的世界，以及作为这一切介体的身体之间的关系。身体自带物理过滤器，这些过滤器塑造并染色了我们的感知，从而在某种程度上造成了一种心理上的禁锢。"Sealed Shell of Existence"实际上就是这一现象的直接例证：被困在自身血肉之躯中的挫败感，既无法真正把握他人的内心现实，他人也无法把握你的。这也是我探索自身经历中所承载的疑问与恐惧的一种方式。

For me, it's really about the relationship between how we perceive ourselves, other people, and the world we live in, and the human body that acts as an interface for all of that. The body comes with its own physical filters, and those filters shape and color our perception, in a way that conditions a kind of psychic confinement. 'Sealed Shell of Existence' is actually a direct example of that: the frustration of being locked inside your own flesh, unable to truly grasp someone else's inner reality, and them unable to grasp yours. It's also a way for me to explore questions and fears I carry from my own experience.

V: 首先，恭喜你今年发行了最新单曲；这首歌真的非常棒。你将清澈的唱腔——偶尔穿插着黑金属风格的嘶吼——与优美的旋律以及丰富多层次的声色完美融合。鼓点稳健而精准，而你对氛围感的强烈强调，使你的作品在众多黑金属作品中脱颖而出——这种独特性很大程度上归功于你融入了Dark Ambient的元素。你对自己的作品有何看法？新作品与早期的作品相比有哪些不同？

First of all, congratulations on releasing your latest single this year; the music is truly fantastic. You combine a clean vocal style—occasionally punctuated by black metal-style vocals—with beautiful melodies and a rich, textured vocal timbre. The drumming is steady and precise, and your strong emphasis on atmosphere sets your work apart from much of the black metal genre—a distinction largely due to your incorporation of Dark Ambient elements. What are your thoughts on your work? How do your new releases differ from your earlier material?

W: 非常感谢，我很高兴我的音乐能打动你。我对迄今为止的创作成果非常满意。我觉得自己在歌曲创作上达到了一个新的高度，作品更加凝练，情感也更加丰富。现在我对自己的创作更有信心了，而且因为我可以亲自演唱自己的歌曲，感觉终于能够将脑海中的构想完美呈现出来。我依然热爱自己的早期作品，看到自"Désillusion"以来音乐风格的巨大演变，我感到非常满足。这其实也是我的创作准则：我总是希望探索并尝试与上一首歌不同的东西。我知道粉丝们发现一位艺人后却要等待很长时间才能听到新作品，这可能会让人失望，但我不想重复制作同一张专辑。

Thank you so much, I'm really glad my music reached you. I'm very happy with what I've done so far. I feel like I've reached a new level in songwriting, more condensed and more emotional. I'm more confident in my composition now, and since I can sing on my own songs, I feel like I can finally reach what I have in mind. I still love my older work, and it's satisfying to see how much things have evolved since 'Désillusion.' That's actually my guideline: I always want to explore and try something different from the previous song. I know it can be disappointing for fans to discover an artist and then have to wait a long time for new material, but I don't want to make the same album twice.

V: 除了发行新单曲外，你2026年还有哪些其他计划？例如，你是否打算发行第二张全长专辑？能否和大家分享一些细节？

Apart from releasing new singles, what other projects do you have lined up for 2026? For instance, are you planning to release your second full-length album? Could you share some details with everyone?

W: 是的，实际上下一首单曲已经在制作中了，我希望能在今年发行。之后，我计划在2028年前发布最后三首曲目，包括那段纯器乐结尾曲。这将是我长期倾注心血创作的一个篇章的高潮，也将真正象征着我心中酝酿已久的艺术愿景得以实现。能够最终达成这一目标，对我来说意义非凡。此外，我也希望能找到一家唱片公司，将整张专辑以实体形式发行。

Yes, actually the next single is already in production, and I'm hoping to release it this year. After that, I'm planning to release the last three tracks, including the instrumental outro, by 2028. That will be the culmination of a chapter I've worked on extensively, and it'll really symbolize the accomplishment of an artistic vision I've had in mind for a long time. It will really mean a lot to finally get there. I'd also love to find a label to release the full album on physical formats.

Your work is incredibly captivating—truly outstanding. I will continue to follow and support both you and your band, and I hope this interview helps more fans in China discover and support you as well. As we wrap up, is there anything you’d like to say to your Chinese fans?

W: 再次感谢大家的关注，这对我来说意义重大，如果我的音乐能触动大家，我会非常开心。我只想说：敬请期待，我正在努力创作新作品，感谢大家一直以来的支持！
