Today, we are interviewing Ibridoma, a heavy/power metal band from Italy. Formed in 2001, Ibridoma is a seasoned veteran of the Italian metal scene. After releasing their debut EP in 2005, the band went on to release several albums in collaboration with the Italian label SG Records. However, following the label's closure, Ibridoma parted ways with SG Records and signed with another prominent Italian label, Punishment 18 Records. This year marks the release of their latest—and seventh—studio album, *Sangue Innocente*. The band first garnered global attention with their second album, *Night Club*, released in 2012. Heavily influenced by the heavy and power metal genres, they deliver authentic, classic heavy metal characterized by seamless guitar and bass interplay; the vocalist's distinctive voice is a standout feature that truly sets the album apart. We recently caught up with Ibridoma for an exclusive interview!

Thank you very much for joining our interview. First, please introduce the history of the band. When was Ibridoma formed? How did the members meet each other?

I: 谢谢你们的邀请！Ibridoma成立于2001年。多亏了共同的朋友，鼓手Alessandro M.得知了老同学Christian对重金属音乐和吉他的热爱，于是联系了他。不久之后，他们便开始在 Alessandro家的阁楼里一起排练。Christian当时也尝试了演唱……结果这成了他在乐队里的主要角色。后来，他们招募了贝斯手Lorenzo以及吉他手Simone和Pietro，他们都来自同一个小镇Trodica di Morrovalle。Pietro过去曾与Alessandro合作过，而Simone则是Christian的侄子。由于来自同一个小镇，他们在组建乐队之前就彼此非常熟悉；他们之间深厚的友谊甚至早于对音乐的共同热爱。

Thank you for having us! Ibridoma were formed in 2001. Thanks to mutual friends, drummer Alessandro M. got in touch with Christian, a former schoolmate, after learning about his passion for heavy metal music and guitar. Shortly after, they started playing together in the attic of Alessandro’s house. Christian also tried his hand at singing... which turned out to be his future in the band. Later, they brought in bassist Lorenzo and guitarists Simone and Pietro, all from the same town (Trodica di Morrovalle). Pietro had already played with Alessandro in the past, while Simone is Christian’s nephew. Being from the same town, they all knew each other well long before the band; the strong friendship between them was born even before their shared passion for music.

As you were growing up, which bands or musicians had a relatively big influence on you in forming your own style—whether in terms of songwriting or playing style?

I: 在我们的音乐成长过程中，对我们影响最大的乐队包括：Iron Maiden、Bon Jovi、Scorpions、Megadeth、Metallica、Helloween、Stratovarius、Pantera、Death、R.J. Dio……

The bands that most influenced us during our musical growth are: Iron Maiden, Bon Jovi, Scorpions, Megadeth, Metallica, Helloween, Stratovarius, Pantera, Death, R.J. Dio...

V: 能介绍一下你们的创作过程吗？对于Ibridoma来说，谁是负责写歌的核心成员？一首歌从最初的构思到最终完成，需要经历哪些步骤？

Could you introduce your creative process? For Ibridoma, who are the core members responsible for writing songs? What are the steps a song goes through from an idea to a complete song?

I: 在创作过程中，每个人都会贡献自己的想法。对于这张专辑，大部分歌曲由Marco和 Andrea 创作，随后在排练室进行深化，每个人负责打磨自己的声部。之后，我们会共同构建曲式并设计人声旋律，而歌词则由主唱负责。至于歌词的主题，则是在歌曲基本成型后由大家共同商定。

Everyone contributes with their ideas during the songwriting process. For this album, Marco and Andrea wrote most of the songs, which were then developed in the rehearsal room where each of us worked on our own parts. After that, we structure the tracks together and work on the vocal melodies, while the lyrics are entrusted to the singer. The themes to be addressed in the lyrics are decided collectively once the songs are fully fleshed out.

V: 今年8月28日，你们发行了最新专辑"Sangue innocente"。这张专辑既像是对你们过往历程的一次总结，又像是一次新生。在坚守传统重金属风格的同时，你们在歌曲中融入了许多新元素。能谈谈你们是什么时候开始创作这张专辑的吗？背后的创作初衷是什么？

On August 28 this year, you released your latest album Sangue innocente. This album feels like both a summary of your past and a renewal. While staying true to traditional heavy metal, you incorporated many new elements into the songs. Could you talk about when you started writing this album? What was the motivation behind it?

I: 我们是在2024年着手制作这张专辑的。我们觉得有必要创作新音乐来保持乐队的活力；当新的Riff和灵感涌现时，你会产生一种想要及时捕捉它们的冲动，而录制新专辑正是实现这一点的最佳方式。随着新节奏吉他手Andrea Marresi的加入，我们将彼此的风格进行了融合，这也是这张专辑听起来与以往作品略有不同的原因。新成员会带来新鲜的创意，并以不同的方式诠释他人创作的乐曲。每个人都有自己的音乐品味，因此当乐队更换吉他手时，创作过程难免也会随之发生变化。

We started working on this album in 2024. We felt the need to write new music to keep the band alive when new riffs and ideas come up, you feel the urge to capture them in time, and the best way to do that is by recording a new album. With the arrival of our new rhythm guitarist, Andrea Marresi, we blended our style with his, which is why this album sounds a bit different from our previous ones. A new member brings fresh ideas and interprets songs written by others in a different way. Everyone has their own taste, so when a guitarist changes in a band, the songwriting process inevitably shifts too.

V: 新专辑"Sangue innocente"中的部分歌词采用了意大利语，这赋予了你们的歌曲一种独特的风格。为什么选择部分使用意大利语创作呢？

Some of the lyrics on the new album Sangue innocente are in Italian, which gives your songs a distinctive feel. Why did you choose to write partly in Italian?

I: 多年来，我们发现歌词所传达的信息有时未能真正触动当地听众；事实上，人们在谈论我们或我们的专辑时，往往根本不提及歌词。使用意大利语创作能让身在意大利的听众更直接地理解歌词含义，同时我们也保留了英语歌词，以维持一种更具国际化的风格。

Over the years, it has happened that the message behind our lyrics didn't quite reach our fellow townspeople; in fact, when talking about us or our albums, some people never even mentioned the lyrics. Writing in Italian makes the message more direct for those living in Italy, but we also include the lyrics in English to maintain a more international feel.

V: 在创作"Sangue innocente"的歌曲时，你们会考虑现场演出的可行性并因此删减某些段落吗？还是说你们更看重录音室专辑的音效，力求在音乐中呈现尽可能多的细节与创意？

When writing the songs for Sangue innocente, do you consider the possibility of performing them live and cut some sections for that reason, or do you prioritize the sound of the studio album and try to bring out as many details and ideas as you want to show in the music?

I: 我们认为，现场演出应尽可能忠实于录音室专辑。我们在舞台上不使用伴奏音轨；而在录音室里，我们会运用更多的叠录技术来充分表达创意，打造音质更佳的唱片。现场演出时，唯一可能缺失的或许是和声部分——因为专辑中的和声全是由我们的主唱在录音室里录制的。

We believe that in a live concert, we should stay as faithful as possible to the studio album. We don't use backing tracks on stage; in the studio, we use more overdubs to fully express all our ideas and create a better-sounding record. In a live setting, perhaps the only thing missing is the backing vocals, which are all recorded by our singer in the studio.

I really like the album cover of Sangue innocente. On your Instagram I learned that it was created by the well-known metal artist Gustavo Sazes. Could you talk about how you collaborated with Gustavo?

We’re glad you liked it! Our collaboration with Gustavo Sazes has been going strong since 2014, and this is the fifth cover he has created for us. We initially reached out to him on social media to tell him about our project; he loved the idea and decided to work on it. That’s how the cover art for Goodbye Nation, our third full-length album, came to be. Since then, it turned into a friendship and a professional bond that has lasted for 12 years. He’s top-tier, and it’s a huge honor for us to collaborate with him!

V: 意大利厂牌 Punishment 18 Records负责发行你们的新专辑"Sangue Innocente"。据我所知，你们之前的专辑"City of Ruins"也是由他们发行的。能介绍一下这家厂牌吗？你们为何选择与他们合作？

The Italian label Punishment 18 Records is handling the release of your new album Sangue innocente. As far as I know, your album City of Ruins was also released by them. Could you introduce this label? Why did you choose this label?

I: Punishment 18 Records 通常合作的乐队风格比我们更重型，所以他们为我们破例了一次——不过最近他们也开始发行与我们风格相近的乐队的作品了。他们非常擅长驾驭音乐市场，并拥有稳固的全球发行渠道。我们之间建立了一种基于合作与相互尊重的牢固关系。事实上，他们已经发行了我们的三张专辑："City of Ruins"、"Norimberga 2.0"以及最新的"Sangue Innocente"。

Punishment 18 Records usually works with heavier bands than us, so they made an exception for our group—though lately they’ve also been releasing albums by bands similar to our style. They navigate the music market well and have solid worldwide distribution. We’ve built a strong bond based on collaboration and mutual respect. In fact, they’ve released our last three albums: City of Ruins, Norimberga 2.0, and our latest one, Sangue Innocente.

V: 如果要用三个词来形容"Sangue innocente"这张专辑，你会想到哪三个词？

If you had to describe the album Sangue innocente in three words, which three words would come to mind

I: 紧凑、直接、犀利。

Compact, direct, and razor-sharp.

V: 我看到你们已经把新专辑里的歌加入到现场演出了。目前观众对新专辑反响如何？你们最喜欢现场演绎哪一首歌？

I see you have already added songs from the new album to your live shows. How has the audience responded to the new album so far? Which song is your favorite to play live?

I: 观众似乎真的很喜欢我们的新专辑，这让我们非常开心！我们最喜欢现场演出的曲目是同名主打歌"Sangue Innocente"。如果能像录制专辑那样，与Giacomo Voli同台演绎这首歌，那绝对太棒了。

It seems like the audience is really enjoying our new album, and we’re super happy about that! Our favorite track to play live is the title track, Sangue Innocente. It would definitely be awesome to share the stage with Giacomo Voli on it, just like we did for the studio version.

V: 你们乐队成立于2001年，如今已是一支拥有超过25年历史的资深乐队。与25年前相比，你们觉得在音乐创作方式上最大的变化是什么？

You were formed in 2001, so this year you are a veteran band with more than 25 years of history. Compared with who you were 25 years ago, what do you think is the biggest change in how you approach music creation?

I: 如今，我们聆听的音乐风格比年轻时更加广泛，这为我们带来了许多新鲜的灵感。我们在创作时，既努力体现我们所热爱的音乐流派的演变，又坚持我们一贯的音乐风格。即使有人带了一首完整的歌来排练室，我们也会一起进行打磨和调整，力求让作品达到最佳状态——这是一个真正的团队协作过程，也让我们每个人都从中获益。

Nowadays, we listen to a wider variety of music genres than we did when we were younger, and that enriches us with fresh ideas. We try to write songs that reflect the evolution of the genre we love, while still staying true to the sound we've always played. Even if someone brings a finished song to the rehearsal room, we always try to tweak it together to make it as strong as possible, making it a true team effort that enriches all of us.

V: Ibridoma今年接下来的演出安排有哪些？你们打算如何推广新专辑？

What shows does Ibridoma have confirmed for the rest of this year? How do you plan to promote your new album?

I: 我们在年底前已在当地安排了几场演出，大家可以通过我们的官方渠道获取最新动态。此外，我们也在寻找演出代理机构，希望能协助我们在意大利国内及海外争取更多演出机会。

We have several shows lined up in our region before the end of the year, and by following our official channels you can stay updated. We will also be looking for a booking agency to help us secure gigs across Italy and abroad.
