今天采访到的是Melkor组建的Erzsebet Nadasdy乐队,组建于2009年的Erzsebet Nadasdy乐队最初是想和来自葡萄牙Death/Black/Thrash Metal乐队Martelo Negro成员Simão Santos创建的一支Old School Black Metal风格的乐队,但是由于双方时间上的问题,最终被搁置多年,直到2024年Melkor重新启动这支乐队并且由早期的Old School Black Meatl风格改变成为,带有浓重旋律色彩的Melodic Black Metal风格,Melkor重新录制了所有的作品,最终在2024年发行了第一张正式专辑“Bloodbound Desires”,冰冷,无情的氛围迎面而来,冷酷无情的旋律,带有一丝丝沮丧的情感,给人一种不安的感觉,在新专辑发行之际乐队的创始人Melkor也再次和杂志和取得联系进行了一次专访!

Today's interview was with Erzsebet Nadasty, a band formed by Melkor. Erzsebet Nadasty, formed in 2009, initially intended to create an Old School Black Metal style band with Sim ã o Santos, a member of Martelo Negro, a Portuguese Death/Black/Thrash Metal band. However, due to time constraints between the two parties, the band was eventually shelved for many years until Melkor restarted the band in 2024 and changed from the early Old School Black Meatl style to a Melodic Black Metal style with strong melodic colors, Melkor re recorded all of their works and ultimately released their first official album "Bloodbound Desires" in 2024. The cold and ruthless atmosphere greeted them with a cold and ruthless melody, carrying a hint of frustration and giving off a sense of unease. On the occasion of the release of the new album, the band's founder Melkor also contacted the magazine and conducted an exclusive interview!

Hello Mr. Melkor, today I am going to interview the Erzsebet Nadasdy band that you participated in forming. In which year was this band formed and how did you form it? Does this name have any meaning?

Erzsébet Nadasdy was originally formed back in 2009. At that time, the idea was to create a raw and old-school black metal project with my bandmate from Martelo Negro, Simão Santos. We were both deeply inspired by the dark and grim essence of early black metal, and we wanted to channel that energy into something raw, visceral, and uncompromising. However, due to the lack of time on both sides, the project ended up being shelved for many years. The initial recordings just sat there, gathering dust, until 2024, when I finally decided to pick it up again. This time, I re-recorded everything from scratch, guitars, bass, and vocals, handling the entire production, mixing, and mastering process myself. It felt like it was finally time to bring this project to life in the way I had always envisioned. The name Erzsébet Nadasdy holds significant meaning. It is inspired by the legendary figure of Countess Elizabeth Báthory, known for her dark and brutal reputation in history and folklore. By using her lesser-known married name, Nadasdy, I wanted to evoke a deeper, more personal connection to the historical narrative, not just the legend of blood, but the tragic and complex tale of power, obsession, and downfall. It perfectly fits the grim and dark atmosphere we aim to create with our music.

This band is still controlled solely by you, completely dominated by yourself. Can you introduce your creative process?

Yes, Erzsébet Nadasdy is entirely my creation now. When I decided to revive the project in 2024, I took full control over every aspect, from composition and instrumentation to production, mixing, and mastering. It's a deeply personal process, where I try to capture a raw, dark atmosphere that reflects both the historical narrative and the grim emotions behind it. My creative process usually starts with the riffs. I focus on cold, aggressive guitar work that brings that old-school black metal essence to life. Once the structure is in place, I add haunting keyboard melodies to create an eerie, melancholic atmosphere, as if the music itself is telling a story soaked in blood and despair. These melodies are crucial to evoke the dark, oppressive mood I want the listener to experience. After finalizing the instrumentals, I work on the vocals. The lyrics explore themes of obsession, violence, and the darkest corners of human nature, inspired by the blood-soaked legends surrounding Countess Bathory. I aim for poetic but impactful phrasing, where every line feels like a dagger, leaving a lasting mark. Once the vocals are done, I handle the mixing and mastering myself, ensuring the final sound is raw yet powerful, staying true to the old-school black metal spirit. In the end, Erzsébet Nadasdy is about channeling raw emotion, rage, despair, and obsession, into the music. It’s not about perfection; it’s about intensity, atmosphere, and authenticity.

This album was still recorded by yourself. Can you introduce the recording process?

The recording process for this album was quite simple and straightforward. I already had the drum tracks from the original sessions, so I decided to keep them. However, I re-recorded all the guitars using a better audio interface and a proper, well-tuned guitar. This alone made a huge difference in the overall sound, giving it more clarity and weight while maintaining that raw, old-school black metal feeling. For the keyboards, I used my MIDI piano, carefully selecting the sounds to fit the dark, haunting atmosphere I wanted to create. I spent a good amount of time experimenting with different tones before settling on what felt right. These melodies play a crucial role in setting the eerie, oppressive mood that reflects the blood-soaked themes of the album. Once the instrumentals were ready, I focused on the vocals. It was important to me that the voice carried both aggression and a sense of anguish, as if the lyrics were being spat out in pure rage. I recorded everything at my home studio, Studios13, where I could take my time and really capture the raw energy I was looking for. Mixing and mastering were the final steps. I wanted to keep the sound rough but powerful, ensuring that nothing felt overproduced. The idea was to create an immersive experience, something that feels like it drags you into the dark world of Erzsébet Nadasdy. In the end, it was all about bringing these old ideas back to life with the tools and skills I have today, making the album sound the way I originally envisioned.

The logo design of this band is very unique, simple yet revealing responsibility. Did you design this logo yourself? Your album art design is also very unique. What is the meaning of this artwork?

The logo was originally created back in 2009 using an Old English font that perfectly fits this style of music, raw, cold, and traditional. I wanted something simple yet impactful, carrying a sense of timelessness that reflects the dark historical themes of the project. Even after all these years, I saw no reason to change it. It holds the weight and responsibility of the music and the concept itself. As for the album artwork, it is heavily inspired by the character of the Countess and her dark legend. The predominant use of deep red and black tones represents the overwhelming presence of blood and death in her story. I wanted the cover to feel visceral, almost as if drenched in the horrors she is known for. The contrast between shadows and crimson hues reflects the duality of beauty and brutality, the elegance of nobility clashing with the savagery of her alleged crimes. Every element on the cover is there to immerse the listener in this macabre atmosphere. It’s not just a visual; it’s an extension of the music, designed to evoke emotion before the first note is even heard.

This band is still released under your own label, and you have the right to release all albums. Have you considered contacting other labels to release physical album versions?

Yes, Erzsébet Nadasdy was released under my own label, Supergoat Wreck-Whordes / Studios13, giving me full creative control over every aspect of the release, from composition and recording to mixing, mastering, and promotion. Releasing it independently allowed me to keep the raw and authentic sound I envisioned without any external constraints. This album is also accompanied by an exclusive ebook filled with dark stories that inspired the lyrics. It delves deeper into the lore and the macabre atmosphere behind each song, offering listeners a richer and more immersive experience. Anyone who purchases the album on Bandcamp receives a copy of the ebook in both English and Portuguese. It’s something I wanted to include to make the album more special, giving fans the opportunity to explore the concepts and narratives beyond the music itself. I have considered working with other labels to release a physical version, as I believe this album deserves a tangible format, something fans can hold, with the artwork and lyrics adding to the overall experience. However, it's not just about printing CDs or vinyl; it's about finding the right label that truly understands the essence of the project. For now, I’m focused on building a stronger fanbase, and when the time is right, I’ll definitely explore physical releases or limited-edition pressings.

What is the music theme of this band about? Why did you choose this music theme? Do you want to express yourself through this music theme? You also created the lyrics section. What inspired these lyrics? I have always been curious whether your lyrics are written in English or Spanish?

The theme of Erzsébet Nadasdy revolves around the dark, tragic, and mysterious life of the infamous Countess Elizabeth Bathory. Her story, steeped in legends of blood, immortality, and unearthly obsession, serves as the foundation for the band's entire concept. The music explores the complexities of her life, the pain, the obsession with youth and beauty, and the horrifying rituals associated with her legend. It’s not just about glorifying her actions, but more about delving into the mind of a person consumed by dark desires and the consequences of those actions. I chose this theme because I find the tale of Elizabeth Bathory incredibly fascinating. Her story represents the destructive power of obsession and vanity, and it intertwines perfectly with the black metal aesthetic of exploring the grotesque and the tragic. Through this project, I wanted to express the darker aspects of the human psyche, the shadowy desires and fears that many of us keep hidden. It felt natural to pour those emotions into a project like Erzsébet Nadasdy, where I could really explore the macabre. The lyrics are an integral part of this project, and I find them incredibly meaningful. They aren’t just about Bathory’s life, but they also touch on themes of suffering, guilt, and a distorted perception of beauty and power. Inspiration came from historical accounts, mythology, and the emotions I felt while researching her life, as well as the emotions I wanted to convey through the music itself. As for the language of the lyrics, I primarily write them in English, as it allows for a broader reach to an international audience, but I also write in Portuguese when I feel that a particular phrase or emotion flows better in my native language. For Erzsébet Nadasdy, I wanted the lyrics to feel raw and authentic, so it really depends on the mood of the song. It’s not so much about choosing between languages, but about choosing which one best captures the feeling I want to convey.

It can be seen that you have put a lot of effort into this album. Do you have any personal opinions on this album?

Thank you for the congratulations! Bloodbound Desires is very special to me, and I’m glad that the effort I put into it is noticeable. This album is a journey through the tragic and dark history of Elizabeth Bathory, and I wanted to make sure the music conveyed the right emotions and atmosphere. It’s melancholic, yes, but also intense and haunting, the kind of feeling that lingers after listening. Personally, I’m proud of how it turned out. It’s a very personal album, one where I was able to explore a deeper side of my creativity, especially with the composition of melodies and the way the music flows from one song to the next. I spent a lot of time fine-tuning the arrangements, especially with the keyboards and guitar work, to create a haunting yet beautiful sound. I wanted it to feel cinematic in a way, like a soundtrack to Bathory's own tragic tale. There were moments during the creation of this album where I felt as though I was actually stepping into her world and emotions, almost as if I was channeling her energy. It was intense, but it also felt cathartic. The process of blending melancholy with powerful, almost ritualistic elements helped me express the complexity of her story. Every song tells a different chapter, but they all tie into the central theme of obsession, guilt, and the consequences of indulgence. I’m satisfied with how it reflects both the history of the Countess and my own musical vision, and it’s been really rewarding to see others connect with it as well. The album is a bit of a dark mirror, reflecting a part of human nature that can be difficult to confront, but I think that’s what makes it resonate.


V: 这张专辑发行后,你有什么新的工作要做吗?例如创作或录制新歌时,你能与每个人分享一些信息吗?


Do you have any new work to do after the release of this album? For example, when creating or recording new songs, can you share some information with everyone?

For now, I don’t have any immediate plans for new work with Erzsébet Nadasdy, as I’m focused on other projects at the moment. I have a lot going on, especially with my other bands and solo work. However, I do have some ideas brewing in the back of my mind, and I could see myself returning to this project in 2026, but only if the inspiration hits. If I do continue with Erzsébet Nadasdy, I’d like to maintain the concept of blending the music with an ebook, offering a deeper connection to the themes of the album. The storytelling element is something that really excites me, and I think it adds a unique dimension to the music. But again, it all depends on the creative energy that comes my way. For now, though, I’m focusing on what’s currently in front of me and making sure the other projects get the attention they deserve. But, rest assured, if the right inspiration strikes, Erzsébet Nadasdy will rise again with more dark stories to tell.
