深海回响 - 波兰先锋实验黑金属乐队Echo Zero专访

今天我们邀请到的是来自波兰的实验黑金属大师IHS（Biesy、Gruzja），就在今年六月份，IHS的新企划Echo Zero由国内知名金属厂牌Pest Productions发行首张专辑《E0》。在延续了波兰实验黑金属一贯的怪诞气质的同时，IHS在这张专辑中大胆加入新的声音实验——通过独特的吉他演奏，变幻莫测的合成器以及丰富的采样，IHS将《E0》专辑里关于深埋在海底3904公尺的埃尔塔宁天线的概念以极其生动沉浸的方式展现给听众。《E0》专辑的科幻神秘气质让这张专辑在众多实验黑金属中脱颖而出，IHS也在先锋的音乐表达上更进一步探索了概念专辑的创作。这次的采访中，我们与IHS一同探讨了《E0》专辑的概念，创作内核以及IHS对实验音乐创作的独到见解。

Today we’re joined by IHS (Biesy, Gruzja), the masters of experimental black metal from Poland. Just this past June, IHS’s new project, Echo Zero, released its debut album, “E0”, on the renowned Chinese metal label Pest Productions. While maintaining the characteristic bizarre atmosphere of Polish experimental black metal, IHS boldly incorporates new sonic experiments on this album—through unique guitar playing, ever-shifting synthesizers, and rich sampling, IHS presents the concept of the Eltanin antenna, buried 3,904 meters beneath the ocean floor, to listeners in an incredibly vivid and immersive way. The sci-fi and mystical atmosphere of “E0” sets this album apart from the vast landscape of experimental black metal, and IHS has taken their avant-garde musical expression a step further by exploring the creation of a concept album. In this interview, we sat down with IHS to discuss the concept behind “E0”, the creative core of the album, and IHS’s unique insights into experimental music composition.

Hello IHS! It's an honor to have an interview with you. Although this interview will mainly focus on your new band, Echo Zero, many black metal fans in China know you from Biesy's album “Golem”. When did you start planning your new band, Echo Zero? Why did you decide to form Echo Zero after Biesy, Gruzja, and your other music projects?

I: 嗨，感谢你们邀请我！组建新乐队或新项目的冲动源于选定的主题和音乐理念。“Echo Zero”本应是一个围绕各种阴谋论展开的项目。

Hi, thanks for having me! The urge of starting a new band / project results from the chosen theme and musical assumptions. Echo Zero is supposed to be a project about various conspiracy theories.

V: 我们先把时间往回拨一些，你是从什么时候开始接触到黑金属音乐的，又是什么时候接触到先锋黑金属的？是什么让你意识到“这就是我想做的音乐”？

Let's rewind a bit. When did you first come into contact with black metal music, and when did you come into contact with avant-garde black metal? What made you realize, "This is the music I want to make"?

I: 我想我是在14岁时第一次听了黑金属。当时我周围没有金属乐迷朋友，而且刚接通互联网。我通过last.fm发现了许多音乐。最早听到的黑金属乐队有：Darkthrone的《Eeart’s last picture》（收录于专辑《Total Death》）、Gorgoroth的《Crushing the scepter》（收录于专辑《Pentagram》）以及Mayhem的《The mysteriis dom sathanas》（必须的）。那感觉真是令人陶醉，我并没有觉得这种音乐可怕或类似的感觉，我只是为有人能创作出如此令人望而却步的（比如Darkthrone）音乐而兴奋不已，而且这种音乐在情感上与我内心的混乱和愤怒产生了共鸣。至于前卫音乐，一年后我接触到了Coil和Nurse with Wound。

I think I was 14 when I listened to black metal for the first time. I didn’t have any metalhead friends at this time and I just got the Internet connection. Lots of music I discovered thru last.fm. And first BM bands I heard were: Darkthrone - Eeart’s last picture from the album Total Death, Gorgoroth - Crushing the scepter from Pentagram and Mayhem - The mysteriis dom sathanas (ofc). It was really extatic, I hadn’t found this music scarry or anything like that, I was just thrilled someone would make music so anti-inviting (Darkthrone) and emotionally connected to the chaos and anger I felt. As for avant-garde music; one year after that I got to know Coil and Nurse with wound.

V: 2026年6月15日，Echo Zero的首张全长专辑《E0》发行，这张专辑的听感延续了在你之前的作品中标志性的怪诞和不和谐，同时又有许多新鲜的元素，从头到尾的都像是一场听觉盛宴。这张专辑是从何时开始筹备的？是什么让你想要创作这样一张专辑？

On June 15, 2026, Echo Zero's debut full-length album, “E0”, was released. The album continues the signature bizarre and discordant feel of your previous work, while also incorporating many fresh elements, making it a true auditory feast from beginning to end. When did you start preparing for this album? What inspired you to create such an album?

I: 大概是在2023年或2024年，我已经为Echo Zero的首张专辑写好了所有曲目。我在创作音乐的同时构思了主题，这对我来说是惯常的做法——我很少甚至从不为了没有具体理由而创作音乐。我读到了关于埃尔塔宁天线（Eltanin’s Antenna）的介绍，于是灵感便由此延伸开来。

It was 2023 or 2024 when I had all the music already composed for Echo Zero debut album. I came up with the theme alongside making the music, it’s common pratice for me, I rarely or never make music without a specific reason in mind. I read about Eltanin’s Antenna and one thing led to another.

Besides you, this album also features lyrics by Dominik from Gruzja, drums by Maeceli from Heresy Denied, and bass by Deimos from Kult Mogił. Could you share your creative process?

I: 说实话，这个过程本身没什么特别有趣的。专辑由我创作，Dominik负责填词，在将所有内容录制成试听带后，我邀请了Marceli和我最好的朋友Filip（Deimos）来录制鼓和贝斯。我对最终成品感到很满意。

There is nothing interesting about the process itself really. I wrote the album, Dominik wrote the lyrics and after having it all recorded as a demo I asked Marceli and my good buddy Filip (Deimos) to record drums and bass. And I’m happy about the final product.

V: 专辑的第一首歌《Antena》听起来像是某种着陆前的地理位置，歌词里的“南纬59°7′，西经105°3′深度：3904米”指的是什么？为什么要为专辑做这首Intro？

The album's first song, "Antena," sounds like some kind of pre-landing geography. What does the lyric "59°7′S, 105°3′W, depth: 3904 meters" refer to?

I: 是指埃尔塔宁天线（据推测）的坐标。

To the coordinates of Eltanin’s Antenna (supposedly).

V: 第二首歌《Nie dla wiernych》用奇特的音色以及不和谐的旋律走向将听众带入E0的世界，这首歌曲为整张专辑定下了诡异且怪诞的听感。“Nie dla wiernych”指的是什么？你是如何为歌曲设计出这些不同寻常奇特吉他音色的？

The second track, “Nie dla wiernych,” draws listeners into E0’s world with its unique tones and dissonant melodies, setting an eerie and bizarre tone for the entire album. What does “Nie dla wiernych” refer to? How did you design these unusual and distinctive guitar tones for the song?

I: 这张专辑就像是一本日记，记录了一个站在船上、目睹潜水员在水面上下浮沉的男人所写下的文字。至于吉他——我也不知道，那只是我本能的演奏方式。

The album is some kind of a journal written by a man on the ship watching divers go up and down the water surface. As for the guitar - I don’t know, it’s just my instinctive grip.

V: 我非常喜欢《Pierwszy szczebel》这首歌，特别是这首歌里不寻常的吉他音色。这首歌听起来就像是还款与混乱的完美结合。可以分享一下这首歌背后的故事吗？

I really love the song “Pierwszy szczebel,” especially the unusual guitar tone in it. The song sounds like the perfect blend of intensity and chaos. Could you share the story behind this song?

I: 这首歌描绘了这样一幅画面：天使化身为海洋生物，像一群没有思想的群羊一样，围攻着雅各天梯的第一级。

It’s about imagining angels as sea creatures besieging the first rung of Jacob’s ladder like mindless flock.

V:《Zorza》是专辑里唯一一首没有歌词的歌曲，这首歌冰冷的合成器给人感觉就像是在海中缓慢下潜至阳光无法到达的深海。可以分享一下这首歌是如何创作出来的吗？歌曲中采样的声音是怎样制作的？

"Zorza" is the only instrumental track on the album; its cold synthesizer tones evoke the sensation of slowly descending through the ocean into the sunless depths. Could you share how this track was created? How were the sampled sounds produced?

I: 你的感受与我的创作意图完全契合，这真是太好了。主旋律使用了合成器，背景噪音则采用了环境录音，而那道刺耳的噪音墙主要通过录制洗脸盆中敞开的水龙头流水声制作而成。

Your senses align perfectly with the intent so that’s a win. There are some synthesizers for the main theme and field recordings for the background noises and harsh noise wall made mainly with recording of an open water tap in washbasin.

V:《Przypłyną z wszystkich mórz》这首歌在四月份提前作为单曲发布，为什么选择这首歌作为《E0》专辑的预告？

The song "Przypłyną z wszystkich mórz" released as a single in April, why you choose this song as a teaser for the album "E0"?

I: 我认为这首歌很好地体现了整张专辑的精神——旋律朗朗上口、风格别具一格且充满活力。

I think it captures the spirit of this album as a whole - it’s catchy, twisted and energetic.

V:《E0》由中国金属乐迷都非常熟悉的Pest Production发行，这并不是你第一次和Pest合作了，是什么让你再次选择了由Pest Production负责发行你的专辑？

“E0” is released by Pest Production, which is very familiar to Chinese metal music fans. This is not the first time you have collaborated with Pest. What made you choose Pest Production to release your album again?

I: 他们是少数几家敢于发行这种“猎奇”音乐的厂牌之一——这种音乐其实没有人会需要，哈哈。而且我们之前（也是第一次）在Biesy - Golem专辑的合作里留下了很好的印象，他们的CD、黑胶、唱片内页以及周边商品的整体质量都是顶级的。

They are one of the few who are brave enough to release ‘bizarre’ music no one needs haha. And the previous (and the frist) time we collaborated with Biesy - Golem left a good aftertaste, the quality of CDs, LPs, inlays and merch overall was top notch.

V: Echo Zero的Logo是由Furia乐队的Sars设计的，我很喜欢这个Logo，你是怎样向Sars描述你想要的Logo的？除了这个Logo，Sars在这张专辑中还有哪些参与吗？

The Echo Zero logo was designed by Sars of the band Furia, and I really like it. How did you describe the logo you wanted to Sars? Besides the logo, what other contributions did Sars make to this album?

I: 我自己画了一张草图（与最终的logo不同），并向Sars解释了其中包含的元素。我希望它看起来像一个钥匙形状的扫描器，正在扫描地球，并留下混乱的星形轨迹。而他完美地捕捉到了这个意象。

I had a drawing made myself (different from the actual logo) and explained Sars the elements it contained. I wanted it to look like a key-shaped scanner signal scannig the Earth leaving chaos star-shaped trail. And he captured it perfectly.

V: 你来自波兰克拉科夫，你认为成长于克拉科夫这座城市有没有对你的创作产生特殊的地域影响？

You are from Krakow, Poland. Do you think growing up in Krakow has had a special regional influence on your creative work?

I: 完全没有，因为我是米莱茨长大的，后来为了上学才搬到克拉科夫的。

Not at all because I grew up in Mielec, I moved to Kraków to study.

V: 如果要用一个在波兰语语境里独有的词语形容Echo Zero的音乐，你认为会是哪个词？

If you had to use a word unique to the Polish language to describe Echo Zero's music, what word would it be?

I: “Falowanie”.

V: 许多粉丝都很喜欢《E0》的专辑封面，画面的蓝紫色调让人有一种平静的感觉，而封面与这张专辑疯狂的听感形成的反差也很令人着迷。这个封面是由谁设计的？封面描绘的是一个怎么样的场景？你想通过这个封面向听者传达一个怎样的世界？

Many fans love the album cover for E0. The blue-purple tones evoke a sense of calm, and the contrast between the cover and the album's intense sound is captivating. Who designed this cover? What kind of scene does it depict? What kind of world did you want to convey to listeners through this cover?

I: 我希望它呈现出宁静和谐的氛围，而非冷峻阴暗。这是一幅扭曲空间的画面，描绘了“一厢情愿”的幻想——想象我们所熟悉的事物转变为我们不熟悉的事物，反之亦然，无论如何都无所谓。我称之为“阴谋论式思维”。

I wanted it to be calm and harmonic, rather cold and dark. It’s a space-bending picture depicting fantasy of wishful thinking as imagining something we know morphing into something we don’t, and the other way around, no matter. I call it conspiratorial thinking.

V: 已经有不少中国的乐迷收到了《E0》的实体CD，我也刚刚收到我的。CD的做工真的很棒，之后你是否有为《E0》这张专辑发行黑胶版本的计划？

Many Chinese music fans have already received their physical CDs of "E0," and I just received mine too. The CD's build quality is truly superb. Do you have any plans to release a vinyl version of the "E0" album later?

I: 我不知道，这不由我决定。这张专辑销量并不高，所以可能永远都不会有黑胶版本。也许等我们开始举办现场演出时会有，但我们每个人的日程安排都相当紧凑。

I don’t know, it doesn’t depend on me. It is not a top selling album so there might never be a vinyl version. Maybe when we start performing live but everyone of us has rather tight time schedule.

V: 在创作《E0》这张专辑的过程中，你听得最多的音乐都来自哪些流派？有哪些你认为给《E0》专辑的创作产生了比较重要的影响的乐队或者音乐家吗？

During the creation of the album "E0", what genres of music did you listen to the most? Which bands or musicians do you think had a significant influence on the album "E0"?

I: 噢，我不知道／记不清了。每个人都会从某些事物中获得灵感，可能是另一首歌曲、一款游戏，甚至只是你在街上偶然看到的一幕，它不知怎么的就在你的大脑皮层里刻下了某种独特的印记。我想我只是想通过歌曲，描绘出水流、冰块和外星生物的景象，并赋予它们一个具体而完整的故事。

Oh I don’t know / remember. Everyone gets inspired by something, it might be another piece of music, a game or even something random you just saw on the street and it somehow managed to engrave a specific taste in your cerebral cortex. I think I just wanted to depict flow of water, ice and alien creatures enclosed in songs with specific, complete story.

V: 你是全职音乐家吗？在不做音乐和演出的时候，你都有哪些爱好？

Are you a full-time musician? What are your hobbies when you're not making music or performing?

I: 我不是。我喜欢打游戏、读书、看动漫、电视剧、看电影、健身、以及时不时嗑点西方树叶。

I am not. I like playing video games, reading, watching anime, tv series and catching up on movies, working out and doing drugs every now and then.

Can you share your latest playlist? Besides metal, what other genres of music do you like?

I: 我已经为下一张专辑想好了开场曲和构思，但我现在正忙着构思其他想创作的音乐。没错，我很想现场演绎《E0》。

I have an opening track and idea for the next album but I am busy thinking about other music I want to make. And yes, I would like to play E0 live.
