今天采访到的是来自德国的Death Metal乐队Belligerence，组建于2022年的Belligerence乐队目前发行了两张EP专辑，虽然是一支很年轻的乐队，但是两张作品非常的成熟，获得了高度评价和关注，Belligerence也迅速成为德国新乐队当中炙手可热的乐队之一，新作品当当中一些Groove的元素，既有富有律动的轮拨，也有闷音段落，在Belligerence乐队的作品当中可以感受到类似于Black Metal的段落，还有类似于Brutal Death Metal的段落，而且乐队在氛围方面做的恰到好处，2026年的EP专辑“Liturgies of the Vile Ones”是2026年非常出色的作品之一，Belligerence乐队的吉他手Harry是来自咱们中国Blood of Life乐队的成员，前不久杂志通过Harry的协助与乐队的主唱Carlos取得联系进行了一次专访！

Today, we are interviewing the German death metal band Belligerence. Formed in 2022, the band has already released two EPs; despite being a young group, their material is remarkably mature, garnering significant acclaim and attention. Belligerence has quickly emerged as one of the hottest new bands in the German scene. Their music incorporates groove elements, featuring both rhythmic tremolo picking and palm-muted sections. Listeners can detect passages reminiscent of black metal alongside others akin to brutal death metal, all while the band strikes the perfect balance in atmosphere. Their EP *Liturgies of the Vile Ones* stands out as a truly exceptional release. Notably, Belligerence’s guitarist, Harry, is a member of the Chinese band Blood of Life; with Harry’s assistance, we recently connected with the band’s vocalist, Carlos, for an exclusive interview!

Hello Mr. Carlos, it's nice to meet you and thank you very much for participating in this interview. I think this is the first time your band has been interviewed by a Chinese magazine. First of all, let me say hello to all Chinese fans and friends. Belligerence was founded in 2022 and is a very young band. How did you form this band in the first place?

C: 你好！也很高兴认识你！也向中国读者们问好！是的，我们之前从未接受过中国杂志的采访，所以非常感谢这次采访。2022年，我在柏林的一场音乐会上结识了Johan（贝斯手）和Richard（鼓手）。当时正值疫情刚结束，我们大家都迫不及待地想再次去现场看演出。约翰和理查德是同学，当时他们所在的乐队正处于短暂的休整期。当时我刚搬到柏林，正想找乐手一起搞个音乐项目，另外两人也是如此。在演唱会上相识后，一周后我给他们听了一首自己创作的歌，我们便开始排练了。剩下的就是历史了。

Hello! Nice to meet you too! And hello to the Chinese readers! Yeah, we've never been interviewed by a Chinese magazine, so thank you for the interview. I met Johan (Bass) and Richard (Drums) at a concert in Berlin in 2022. This was coming out of Covid, so we were all pumped to go to shows again. Johan and Richard, being friends from school, were already playing in a band that was going through a slight hiatus. I had just moved to Berlin and was looking for musicians to start a project with, as were the other two. After having met at the show we started rehearsing a week later when I showed them a song I had worked on. The rest is history.

Your band maintains its original lineup, only inviting Harry to join as a guitarist in 2026. He is a guitarist from China. How did you meet and invite Harry to join your band? What new changes did Harry's joining bring to the band?

C: 在我们乐队的大部分历史中，我们都是以三人组合的形式进行演出。在创作完首张EP后，我们开始寻找第二位吉他手，以丰富现场音效，并更好地在演出中还原我们的作品。试音了一两位不太适合乐队的吉他手后，我们很幸运地遇到了哈里！我们通过一位共同的朋友认识了他，这位朋友告诉我们，他结识了一位技艺高超的中国吉他手。这听起来就很令人期待，毕竟中国拥有众多技艺精湛的吉他手。一旦见到哈里并一起排练了几次，我们就知道这是绝配！我们不仅找到了能驾驭我们这种残暴且技术性极强的死亡金属风格的人，更找到了一位可靠且友善的伙伴。

For most of our band history we played as a 3-piece group. After having written our first EP we started searching for a second guitarist to help fatten the live sound, as well as to better reproduce our compositions in our performances. After having tried out 1-2 guitarists who didn't quite suit the band, we luckily came across Harry! We met him through a mutual friend, who told us that he had gotten to know a Chinese guitarist with great skills. Which already sounds promising, as China is a country of many high-skilled guitarists. Once we met Harry and rehearsed together a couple of times we knew it would be a good match! We found someone who can not only play our brutal/technical style of death metal, but who is also a reliable and kind person.

V: 你们目前已发行了三张专辑，而您是乐队的主要创作者。能否介绍一下您的创作过程？

You have currently released three albums, and you are the main creator of the band. Can you introduce your creative process?

C: 虽然大部分音乐和歌词都是我创作的，但这支乐队是一个非常注重协作的项目。每个人都会在创作过程中贡献自己的创意。理查德负责创作大部分鼓点，而约翰则负责创作许多贝斯部分。我通常先在家里构思一首曲子，然后带到排练室，大家一起打磨，调整歌曲结构和整体编曲。作为一支乐队，我们非常重视最大限度地发挥我们的创作产出、音乐潜能以及表现力。这意味着我们必须集思广益，才能取得最佳效果。

While I do write most of the music and lyrics, the band is a very collaborative project. Everyone contributes their creative ideas to the creation process. Richard writes most of the drum parts, while Johan writes a lot of the bass parts. I often work on a composition at home and then bring it to the rehearsal room, where we work on it together, tweaking the song structure and general composition. As a band, we place much value on maximising our creative output and musical potential, as well as expression. This means having to use all our minds collectively for the best results.

V: 你们的作品录音效果非常出色。这张专辑是在哪家录音室录制的？由哪位制作人操刀制作的？你们今年刚录制了一张新的EP专辑。这张专辑的录制过程顺利吗？

Your works have excellent recording effects. Which studio did you record your album in? Which producer made the album for you? You just recorded a new EP album this year. Did the recording process of this album go smoothly?

C: 谢谢。我们的首张试听带是在柏林市中心的一家小型青年中心录制的，那里同时也为初出茅庐的乐队提供录音室服务。我们的首张EP"Eschaton Foretold"以及最新专辑"Liturgies of the Vile Ones"，均由柏林LTMF Studios的Tom Tschernig负责录制、混音和母带处理。与他合作非常愉快，因为他非常精准地捕捉到了我们想要的声音。得益于他的专业素养和敬业精神，整个过程非常顺利。我们配合得十分默契，使得录音过程充满乐趣。因此，整个过程既顺畅又愉快。

Thank you. Our first demo was recorded at a small youth centre in central Berlin which also acts as a studio for bands that are starting out. Our first EP "Eschaton Foretold", as well as our current release "Liturgies of the Vile Ones" were both recorded, mixed, and mastered by Tom Tschernig of LTMF Studios in Berlin. It was great working with him, as he was able to capture our desired sound very well. The process was also very smooth due to his professional nature and work-ethic. So that was a good match, making the recording process a lot of fun. Consequently, the whole process was very smooth and enjoyable.

V: 死亡、末日、神话、社会、神秘主义是你们音乐的主题。为什么选择这些主题？你们希望通过这些主题表达什么？你们还创作了歌词部分，这些歌词的灵感来自哪里？

Death, Apocalypse, Mythology, Society, Occultism are your music themes. Why did you choose this music theme? What do you want to express through this music theme? You also created the lyrics section. What inspired these lyrics?

C: 这些主题让我（以及其他成员）着迷，因为它们背后的故事、神话和意象不仅引人入胜，更能发人深省。当今世界也面临着诸多全球性困境，这使得这些主题对于黑暗而残暴的音乐而言更加引人入胜且富有启发性。我们希望在音乐和声音层面以最大的冲击力和强度来表达自我。我们的音乐处于前沿地位，而歌词则讲述故事并传递思想，以此补充音乐中那种声音上的侵略性和残暴感。对我们而言，创作与现实生活事件和主题相关的歌词至关重要，同时将这些内容包装进神话和叙事背景之中。

These themes fascinate me (and the others as well), as the stories, mythologies and motifs behind these themes can not only be entertaining but also thought-provoking. Our current world also faces many global hardships, which makes these topics even more fascinating and inspiring for dark and brutal music. We want to musically and sonically express ourselves with maximum impact and intensity. Our music is in the forefront while our lyrics provide a telling of stories and ideas that supplement the sonic aggression and brutality of the music. It’s important to us to write lyrics connected to real-life events and themes, while packaging these into a mythological and story-telling context.

V: 你们与Lycanthropic Chants合作发行了今年的EP专辑。这是一家非常出色的厂牌，曾发行过大量高质量作品，其中包括几天前来中国演出的印尼乐队Exhumation的作品。你们是如何与这家厂牌取得联系并展开合作的？你对与这家厂牌的合作满意吗？

You collaborated with Lycanthropic Chants to release this year's EP album. This is an excellent label that has released a large number of high-quality works, including works by the Indonesian band Exhumation, who came to China to perform a few days ago. How did you get in touch with this label to collaborate? Are you satisfied with the job at this brand?

C: 你的调研做得真棒！与“Lycanthropic Chants”乐队的Steffen合作非常愉快。我们最初是在柏林的一场演出中认识他的，随后受邀参加了他的一场演出。我们一直保持着联系，并把最新的EP寄给了他。他很欣赏我们的作品，于是我们开始合作——毕竟我们也希望能将乐队提升到一个新的高度。“Lycanthropic Chants”确实是极佳的合作伙伴，不仅因为他们专业的工作流程，还因为他们推出的精彩作品和乐队，正如你所提到的。所以，是的，我们非常满意！

You did great research! Steffen of Lycanthropic Chants is amazing to work with. We first met him at a show in Berlin and were then invited to play one of his shows. We simply remained in touch and sent him our latest EP. He enjoyed our work, and we began collaborating together, as we also wanted to take the band to the next level. Lycanthropic Chants is great to work with, not only due to their professional workflow but also because of the amazing releases and bands they put out, like you mentioned. So yeah, we are very satisfied!

V: 首先，恭喜你们的乐队今年刚刚发行了EP专辑"Liturgies of the Vile Ones"。你们的作品风格阴暗、邪恶，与Incantation等一些美国老牌乐队颇为相似。那些快速而连绵不绝的Riff极具邪恶感，编曲也十分考究。可以看出Harry的演奏技巧非常出色，你的演唱同样深沉有力，与音乐配合得天衣无缝。你对自己的作品有何看法？新专辑与旧专辑之间是否有变化？

First of all, congratulations to your band for just releasing their EP album "Liturgies of the Vile Ones" this year. Your work is dark, evil, and similar to some American Old bands such as Incantation. The fast, continuous Riff is very evil, and the arrangement is responsible. It can be seen that Harry's playing skills are excellent, and your singing is also deep and powerful, well coordinated with your music. What is your opinion on your own work? Is there any change between the new album and the old album?

C: 非常感谢您的赞美！我们深受许多优秀的欧美死亡金属乐队的影响，其中不少来自90年代和00年代。我们力求让音乐尽可能地残暴且技术性强，同时通过深思熟虑的创作、律动感和氛围感来呈现。将这些元素融合在一起对我们来说非常重要。既黑暗又激烈，同时拥有复杂而富有概念性的编曲，这是我们不断追求的目标。我相信，凭借目前的EP，我们离实现这些目标更近了一步。对于乐队至今取得的成就，我感到非常自豪。没错，哈里的演奏非常出色。他在极短的时间内就学会了我们所有的歌曲。他非常适合这支乐队！

Thank you very much for the kind words! We are inspired by many great US and European Death Metal bands. Many from the 90s and 00s eras. We strive to make our music as brutal/technical as possible, while delivering it with thoughtful songwriting, groove, and atmosphere. Combining these elements is very important to us. Dark and intense, yet with intricate and conceptual arrangements, is something we continuously aim towards. And I believe we are closer to reaching these goals with our current EP. I am very proud of us as a band so far. And yes, Harry’s playing is great. He learned all our songs in a very short amount of time. He fits very well into the band!

V: 你们乐队的标志设计非常漂亮。这个标志是谁设计的？你们的专辑封面设计也很独特。这些专辑封面是谁设计的？

Your band's logo design is very beautiful. Who designed this logo for you? Your album artworks are designed in a unique way. Who designed these album artworks for you?

C: 谢谢。我们对此也非常满意。这位艺术家名叫 BMS illustration，与他合作非常愉快。我们专辑的封面插画都是由不同的艺术家创作的。我们的首张试听带封面其实是我的一张照片，哈哈。由我们的Richard拍摄并后期处理的！他负责乐队大部分的视觉形象设计。"Eschaton Foretold"的封面由瑞典艺术家Kim Jakobsson创作，而"Liturgies of the Vile Ones"则由葡萄牙艺术家Belial Necroarts创作。我们对当前这张EP的封面设计非常满意，因为它仅凭一幅插画就完美诠释了专辑的歌词与音乐主题。

Thank you. We are also very happy with it. The artist is called BMS illustration, who was also a pleasure to work with. The artworks for our releases are all from different artists. Our first demo is actually a picture of me, haha. Taken and edited by our Richard! He takes care of much of the visual identity of the band. The artwork for “Eschaton Foretold” was done by a Swedish artist, Kim Jakobsson, while “Liturgies of the Vile Ones” was created by a Portuguese artist, Belial Necroarts. We are very happy with the artwork for our current EP, as it perfectly represents the lyrical and musical themes of the record within one illustration.

V: 我发现了一件非常有趣的事。你们国家的“铁血首相”俾斯麦竟然是你的曾祖父，这真的让我很惊讶。哈哈，作为俾斯麦的后裔，你对这一身份有什么感想吗？你乐队的成员们对你的身份感到惊讶吗，哈哈！

I have learned a very interesting thing. Your country's iron blooded prime minister Bismarck is your great grandfather, which really surprises me. Haha, as a descendant of Bismarck, do you have any thoughts on this identity? Are the members of your band surprised by your identity, haha!

C: 哈哈，眼力真好。他是我高高高祖父的兄弟。我并没有感到太自豪，毕竟我只是碰巧出生在这个家族里，这并非我能控制的。不过，作为一名狂热的历史爱好者，我仍然觉得这段历史非常迷人。在投身音乐之前，我曾考虑过学习历史。尽管俾斯麦并非没有道德上的缺陷，但他无疑是德国历史上一位极其重要的人物。起初，我的乐队伙伴们对我的姓氏感到好奇或惊讶，但我猜这种“惊讶”很快就消失了，毕竟我们现在已经非常熟悉彼此了。

Haha well spotted. He is a great great great grand uncle to me. I don’t feel too much pride, since I simply happened to be born as part of that family, which is out of my control. Yet I still find the history very fascinating, as I am a huge history buff. I was thinking of studying history before going into music. While not being without moral failings, Bismarck was undeniably a very important character for German history. My bandmates were initially intrigued/surprised by my surname, yet the “surprise” factor went away quickly I imagine, due to us getting to know each other very well by now.

V: 哪些乐队对你们乐队产生了影响？能列举一些你们最喜欢的乐队吗？

What bands have influenced your band? Can you list some of your favorite bands?

C: 许多黑金属和死亡金属乐队在音乐上都给我们带来了启发，例如Suffocation、Behemoth、Dying Fetus、Decapitated、Cannibal Corpse、Morbid Angel、Necrophagist等，仅举几例。当然，还有许多不同流派的乐队也对我们这些音乐人产生了影响。来自最意想不到方向的影响，往往会以更微妙的方式深深植根于我们这些音乐人心中，即使我们未必能立即察觉。无论是古典音乐、爵士乐、流行乐、蓝调，还是电影原声带，所有乐队成员的音乐品味都极为多元。重要的是，作为一支乐队，我们努力将这些影响转化为支撑我们自身创作与音乐个性的动力。

Many Black- and Death Metal bands have inspired us musically. Suffocation, Behemoth, Dying Fetus, Decapitated, Cannibal Corpse, Morbid Angel, Necrophagist, to name a few. Although there are many bands from various genres that have all influenced us as musicians. Influences from the most unlikely directions can also be more subtle and ingrained within us as musicians, even when we don’t realise it immediately. Whether its classical music, jazz, pop, blues, or soundtracks, all band members have very diverse tastes in music. Importantly, as a band we try and channel our influences into supporting our own creative and musical identity.

V: 你们乐队迄今为止参加过哪些现场演出？其中哪些给你们留下了深刻印象？能否介绍一下当时现场演出的氛围？2026年还有哪些新的演出在等着你们？

What live performances have your band participated in so far, and which ones have left a deep impression on you? Can you introduce the atmosphere of the live performances at that time? What new performances are waiting for you in 2026?

C: 到目前为止，我们已经举办了许多令人难忘的演出，主要是在德国各地。因为我们来自柏林，所以曾多次作为暖场乐队，与Necrot、Sijjin或Mammoth Grinder等出色乐队同台献艺。柏林的观众也非常狂野且充满激情。因此，在主场演出总是特别尽兴。虽然我们也举办过200到300人规模的演出，但柏林及其他城市那些40到60人的小型俱乐部演出，正因其亲密无间的氛围，反而成为最棒的体验之一。八月我们将作为Immolation的暖场乐队登台，这显然令人无比兴奋。9月我们将作为Bodyfarm的暖场乐队，10月则将与来自巴西的Podridao共同进行欧洲巡演！所以有很多值得期待的事情……

We have played many memorable shows so far, throughout Germany mainly. As we’re from Berlin, we’ve played many amazing shows where we were supporting amazing bands. Bands such as Necrot, Sijjin, or Mammoth Grinder. The crowds in Berlin are also really wild and passionate. So, it’s always a blast playing the hometown shows. While we’ve played some shows with 200-300 attendees, some of the smaller 40-60 person club shows in Berlin and other cities, have been some of the greatest, due to their intimate nature. In August we’re supporting Immolation, which is obviously super exciting. In September we’re supporting Bodyfarm and in October we’re doing a Europe tour with Podridao from Brazil! So plenty of things to look forward to…

V: 除了发行新EP专辑外，今年还有其他计划吗？比如发行首张全长专辑？能和大家分享一些相关信息吗？

Do you have any other work to do this year besides releasing a new EP album? For example, releasing your first full-length album? Can you share some information with everyone?

C: 我们目前正在着手制作首张全长专辑，这让我们非常兴奋。也许会在2027年的某个时候完成，但我无法确定。这将是我们迄今为止最残暴、技术性最强，同时也是构思最周密、编排最精良的作品。因此，这是我们相较于以往作品的自然演进与进步。无论是创作和发行音乐，还是进行现场演出，我们始终以1000%的投入和热情寻求进步，奋勇向前。

We are currently beginning our work on the first full-length album, which is super exciting. Maybe it’ll be finished sometime in 2027, yet I cannot confirm. It’ll be the most brutal/technical, yet also the most thought-through and composed material of ours to date. So, a natural progression and advancement from our past releases. Whether its writing and releasing music, or playing live shows, we’re always looking to progress and surge forward with 1000% dedication and passion.

V: 虽然你们是一支非常年轻的乐队，但作品却十分成熟稳健。我也是你们乐队的粉丝。我已经通过你们的网站听过所有作品，今后也会继续关注和支持你们。我也希望通过这次采访，能吸引更多中国粉丝关注和支持你们。采访即将结束，最后想对中国的粉丝们说些什么吗？

Although you are a very young band, your works are mature and stable. I am also a fan of your band. I have heard all your works through your website, and I will continue to follow and support your band. I also hope to attract more Chinese fans to follow and support your band through this interview. The interview is coming to an end. Do you have anything to say to Chinese fans at the end?
