Formed in 2005, F.A.M is a long-standing and highly experienced Polish band. Their inception came about quite by chance: while another Polish band, Dissenter, was preparing a new album, Młody and the guitarist composed several tracks that they felt didn't quite fit the style of Dissenter at the time. Consequently, they decided to form a new group—and thus, F.A.M was born. The name "F.A.M" was derived from *Furor Arma Ministrat*, the title of a 2005 album by Dissenter. In 2006, the band released their debut EP, *Panzergrind*, followed in 2007 by their first full-length album, *Bullet(in)*, which was released via the Singaporean label Scrotum Jus Records to great acclaim. However, the label eventually ceased operations, leading the band to return to their home scene; in 2013, they released a split album through the Polish label Let It Bleed Records. Subsequent releases in collaboration with other Polish labels, such as Deformeathing Production and Fat Ass Records, also proved highly successful. This year, the band has partnered with the prominent Polish label Selfmadegod Records to release their latest album, *Pleasure of Torture*. To mark the release, our magazine—with the assistance of Selfmadegod Records—reached out to Młody, the band’s drummer and one of its founding members, for an exclusive interview.

Hello Młody, it's a pleasure to meet you and I'm very grateful for your participation in this interview. I think this is your band's first time being interviewed by a Chinese magazine. First of all, please say hello to all our Chinese fans. F.A.M was formed in 2005 and is a long-established band. How did you form this band in the first place? Does the name F.A.M mean anything?
Hello to all the readers! It’s a real pleasure for us to be featured in a Chinese magazine—this is actually our first-ever interview from China! The band came into existence somewhat by accident, ha ha. During one of our rehearsals—while we were working on material for a new Dissenter album—the guitarist at the time and I ended up with a few tracks that didn’t quite fit that band’s style. We decided to launch a new, low-pressure project. *Furor Arma Ministat* (which translates to "Hatred Arms") was also the title of the Dissenter album we were working on at the time, and that’s where the name came from ;)
Now you're the only original member left in the band; all the other members have been replaced, especially the three new members you brought in between 2025 and 2026. Why did the first-generation members leave the band? How did the new members join? Are you satisfied with their work? What new changes have they brought to the band?
每一次成员更迭总能带来一股全新的活力……2026年,乐队又经历了一些变动,目前的阵容如下:Jakub(主唱——同时也是Necrocranium和 Imperial Execration的成员)、Patryk(贝斯——同时也是Deadpoint的成员)、Łukasz(吉他——同时也是Cry of the Nile的成员),以及 Darek Młody(鼓——同时也是Squash Bowels、Magnus、Stillborn等乐队的成员……)。
Yes, I am the only member from the original lineup. Over the course of the band's existence, several bassists, vocalists, and guitarists have come and gone. The reasons for these lineup changes varied—ranging from burnout, a lack of time or commitment, and a loss of interest in the band's development, to plain old laziness ;) Every change in the lineup always brings a fresh burst of energy... The year 2026 brought further changes, and the current lineup is as follows: Jakub (vocals – also of Necrocranium, Imperial Execration), Patryk (bass – also of Deadpoint), Łukasz (guitar – also of Cry of the Nile), and Darek Młody (drums – also of Squash Bowels, Magnus, Stillborn…).
Every album your band releases has been exceptionally well-received in terms of recording quality. Which studio did you record your albums in? Who produced them? Is the production process for your new album going smoothly?
We recorded our first two releases, "Panzergrind" and "Bullet(in)," at JM Records in Wrocław. The 2013 split, "Radical Circus Team," was recorded across several different locations. Since the album "Human Cargo," we have been recording at our own "Panzerstudio" in Myszków. I have been responsible for the recording and production of our last three releases. After every recording session, I find myself reflecting on things that could have been further refined or done even better—which is why it’s always very gratifying to hear such positive feedback. The material for our latest album was actually written some time ago. In the meantime, there was a change of vocalist, which undoubtedly influenced the process and time of recording the new album.
You've collaborated with labels like Deformeathing Production and Fat Ass Records on album releases, which are all excellent labels. Your new album this year was released on Selfmadegod Records. How did you contact and collaborate with these labels? Are you satisfied with their work? Especially with Selfmadegod Records?
Our collaborations with labels have always come about spontaneously, as we’ve known each other and been active in the same scene for many years. I have no intention of complaining or badmouthing our previous labels, but things could always have been better ;) We operate in the underground—we don’t play commercial or catchy music—so none of us ever set our sights on some spectacular success ;) Selfmadegod holds the position of one of the most significant and respected independent labels within both the Polish and international extreme music scenes. It’s a brand recognized by fans of extreme metal all over the world. We hope that, thanks to this, our music will reach a wider audience of those who love brutal sounds.

War, Death, Murder—these are your musical themes. Why did you choose these themes? What do you want to express through them? Did you write the lyrics? Who wrote them, and what inspired them?
War, death and murder are topics that provide enormous scope for expressing strong emotions. However, our focus is not merely on brutality or shocking the audience; we are primarily interested in the darker side of human nature—the human psyche, obsessions, aggression, and the extremes to which people are capable of going. We are inspired by real events, stories of serial killers, wars, as well as human behavior and various types of psychological mechanisms. Often, our starting point is a specific thought, emotion, or narrative, which we then develop further in our lyrics. For us, brutal music serves as a natural complement to these themes. We do not seek to lecture anyone or impose specific interpretations—we simply want to convey emotions and create music that lingers in the mind.
Your logo design is absolutely the most creative I've ever seen. Who designed it for you? Your album art perfectly matches your musical themes, but I think your new album art has changed. Who designed these album artworks? What inspired the new artwork?
Thanks for the positive feedback on our logo. As for our album artwork, we’ve entrusted it to a different artist each time. For our releases, we’ve collaborated with Szymon Siech, Maggie Fox Art, Michał Grabowski, and Six Art. Each of them brought their own unique style and perspective on our music; consequently, while the covers differ from one another, each one captures the specific mood of the material it represents. For our new record, we also wanted to head in a slightly different direction. We don’t want to lock ourselves into a single formula or simply repeat past ideas. Changing the visual style was a natural step—the new material carries its own atmosphere, emotions, and message, so it was important to us to present something fresh from a visual standpoint as well. To us, the cover isn’t just an add-on to the music; it’s an essential part of the release as a whole.
Your 2006 EP *Panzergrind* and your 2019 album *Fascinated About Mortality* are quite interesting in terms of their song titles. First, all the song titles on your “Panzergrind” EP consist entirely of numbers, while all the song titles on your 2019 album “Fascinated About Mortality” begin with the letter “F,” much like chapters in a novel. Could you tell us about the inspiration behind the song titles on these two albums?
In the case of *Panzergrind*, the idea of using only numbers for track titles was simply our concept for that particular release. We wanted to do something different, avoiding typical song titles. This approach felt raw, technical, and mysterious—qualities that fit the character of the music perfectly. In turn, with Fascinated About Mortality we decided to play with the abbreviation FAM, which is the name of our band. Every track title begins with the letter "F"—a deliberate nod to both the album title and the band’s name. In this way, we wanted to maintain a certain consistency and create a distinctive leitmotif for the entire album. We enjoy these kinds of ideas and subtle touches—details that aren't always obvious at first glance. Not everything needs to be spelled out explicitly; it’s great when listeners discover these connections on their own. For us, it’s all part of the fun—both in creating the music and in developing the overall concept for a release.
First of all, congratulations on your band’s upcoming new album—your fourth full-length release. Your music really leaves a lasting impression; you’re not only influenced by Polish death metal and grindcore, but also by some Czech bands. Your tracks are short and powerful, and the rhythm is perfectly executed. You blend many different elements—groovy, crust/grind, and even some experimental touches. The two vocalists, one high and one low, complement each other perfectly, and the heavy, powerful riffs remind me of Mortician’s work. What are your thoughts on your own music? How does the new album differ from your previous work?
Thanks for the kind words and for noticing the various elements in our music! It’s true—we don’t limit ourselves to a single genre. You can hear everything from fast, grindcore-style sections and heavy, slam-influenced breakdowns to more rhythmic, groove-oriented parts. We also make no secret of the fact that classic death-grind bands are a major point of reference for us, especially when it comes to the weight of the riffs and that signature, crushing tempo. As for the new album, we didn’t want to just repeat what we’d done on previous releases. It’s still fast, heavy, and brutal, but there’s more experimentation with rhythm, transitions between tempos, and the contrast between high-speed passages and slow, heavy breakdowns. Our goal was to keep the tracks tight and focused, while ensuring they didn’t all follow the exact same formula. It’s hard for us to judge our own music, but we do know that this new material represents another step forward. We are not trying to forcefully reinvent FAM. rather, we want to evolve our sound while preserving the hallmarks that have defined us from the start—brutality, heaviness, and a direct, uncompromising approach.

As a long-established band, you’ve performed at many music festivals and live shows. Which festivals left a lasting impression on you? Can you describe the atmosphere at those events? What new performance invitations do you have lined up for 2026?
Over the years we have played in various places and conditions. The shows that stick in our memory the most are always the ones where something unusual happens—like our performances at the Obscene Extreme festival in the Czech Republic, for instance. Every time we’ve played there, fans have ended up on stage, showing off various "attributes" of theirs—ha ha! But then again, this is Obscene Extreme; But this is Obscene Extreme fest and whoever was there knows that this is the norm :) At the moment we are planning next year's concerts and festivals...
You’re an excellent band, and I’ll continue to follow and support you. I also hope this interview will help more Chinese fans discover and support your band. As we’re wrapping up, is there anything you’d like to say to your Chinese fans?
Many thanks for the kind words, the support, and the invitation to this interview! It’s truly great to know that our music reaches so far and that we have listeners in China as well. We’d just like to thank all our Chinese fans for their interest in our work and for supporting the underground scene. It’s really heartening for us that someone on the other side of the world takes the time to discover our music. We hope that even more people will come across FAM, and perhaps one day we’ll be able to play a show in China and meet you all in person. Until then—listen loud and keep supporting the underground! \m/
