In today’s interview, we feature a new project from an old friend of the magazine, Melkor: Ωverhuman Singularity. This is a fresh endeavor by Melkor, exploring the realms of Thrash and Death Metal. With its ferocious, razor-sharp riffs, captivating melodies, and aggressive vocal delivery, the project’s debut release, *Entropy of the Divine Machine*, has already garnered high acclaim. As is typical for his work, Melkor handled every aspect of the album himself—from composition and recording to artwork design. Additionally, he brought in Bruno Mendes and Luís Sanches to contribute to the songwriting and vocals. With the new album now out, Melkor reconnected with the magazine for an exclusive interview!

Hello, Melkor—good to see you again! This time, I’d like to interview you about your band, Ωverhuman Singularity. In what year was the band formed, and how did you go about putting it together? Also, is there any specific meaning behind the name "Ωverhuman Singularity"?

M: “Ωverhuman Singularity”是我个人的另一个音乐项目。这段旅程始于去年，当时我开始尝试将极端金属的侵略性与工业及电子元素相融合，并构建一个超越了单纯歌曲集合的概念框架。我一直对科技、超人类主义、人工智能，以及信仰与权力之间的关系等主题很感兴趣。随着时间的推移，这些想法自然地交织在一起，最终演变成了"Entropy of the Divine Machine"这一作品。至于名字“Ωverhuman Singularity”代表了人类跨越“不归点”的那一刻。“Singularity”一词源于科技概念，指智能超越其创造者；而“Ωverhuman”则象征着对人类局限性的抛弃，以及某种截然不同的事物的诞生。使用“Ω”这个符号是有意为之的——虽然在传统语境中它代表“终结”，但在本项目的世界观里，它也象征着转化、巅峰以及进化的最终阶段。从很多方面来看，这个名字本身就概括了整个项目的核心理念：人类创造出了比自身更伟大的事物，却最终发现，即便是“数字神明”，也难逃熵增与衰败的宿命。这就是“Ωverhuman Singularity”背后的核心思想。

Ωverhuman Singularity is another one of my solo projects. The adventure began last year when I started experimenting with ways of merging the aggression of extreme metal with industrial and electronic elements, while building a concept that felt larger than a collection of individual songs. I've always been drawn to themes such as technology, transhumanism, artificial intelligence and the relationship between faith and power. At some point, those ideas began connecting naturally and eventually evolved into what would become Entropy of the Divine Machine. As for the name, Ωverhuman Singularity represents the moment when humanity crosses a point of no return. The word "Singularity" refers to the technological concept of intelligence surpassing its creators, while "Ωverhuman" symbolizes the abandonment of human limitations and the emergence of something entirely different. The use of the Ω symbol was intentional, as Omega traditionally represents the end, but within the universe of this project it also represents transformation, culmination and the final stage of evolution. In many ways, the name itself summarizes the entire concept behind the project: humanity creates something greater than itself, only to discover that even a digital god is ultimately subject to entropy and decay. That's the central idea behind Ωverhuman Singularity.

V: 这个项目目前依然完全由你一人负责，还是有其他成员参与其中？

Is this band still just you on your own, or are there other members involved?

M: “Ωverhuman Singularity”本质上是一个“一人项目”。我负责创作词曲，演奏了所有的吉他、贝斯，完成了人声录制和程序编写，并亲自操刀了录音、制作、混音、母带处理以及视觉艺术设计。我一直很享受在项目中拥有完全的创作掌控权，尤其是在这种以概念为驱动的作品中，因为这能确保每一个音乐和视觉元素都服务于同一个愿景。话虽如此，在将"Entropy of the Divine Machine"变为现实的过程中，我并非完全孤军奋战。我邀请了Luís Sanches创作了开场曲"Genesis Error [Boot Failure Detected]:和结尾曲"Final Null [System Halted]"。这两段作品在专辑的叙事中扮演着关键角色，勾勒出了“机械之神”从诞生到最终停机的全过程。此外，我还邀请了Bruno Mendes在"Obsolete Fleshware"一曲中客串献声。我觉得这首歌需要一种不同的音色质感，以强化人类与作品中所描绘的冰冷技术教条之间的对比。他的参与为这首歌增添了新的维度，也进一步烘托了整体氛围。除了这些合作之外，Ωverhuman Singularity本质上仍是一次个人的独立创作。专辑所探讨的主题对我而言有着极强的个人意义；独自创作让我能够构建起一个完整的宇宙，且无需做出任何妥协——从最初的Riff到最终的视觉细节，皆由我一手打造。有时，这感觉不像是在组建一支乐队，而更像是在一点一滴地构建一个世界。

Ωverhuman Singularity is essentially a one-man project. I wrote the music and lyrics, performed all guitars, bass, vocals and programming, and handled the recording, production, mixing, mastering and artwork myself. I've always enjoyed having complete creative control over my projects, especially when they're concept-driven, because it allows every musical and visual element to serve the same vision. That said, I wasn't entirely alone in bringing Entropy of the Divine Machine to life. I invited Luís Sanches to create the intro "Genesis Error [Boot Failure Detected]" and the outro "Final Null [System Halted]". Those two pieces play an important role in the album's narrative, establishing both the birth and the final shutdown of the Machine-God. I also invited Bruno Mendes to contribute guest vocals on "Obsolete Fleshware". I felt that track needed a different vocal texture to strengthen the contrast between humanity and the cold technological doctrine being portrayed. His contribution added an extra dimension to the song and helped reinforce its atmosphere. Beyond those collaborations, Ωverhuman Singularity remains a solitary endeavor. The themes explored in the album are deeply personal to me, and working alone allows me to build an entire universe without compromise, from the first riff to the final visual detail. Sometimes it feels less like a band and more like constructing a world, one piece at a time.

V: 这张专辑是你独自创作的吗？录音过程也是由你一手操办的吗？

Did you create this album all by yourself? And did you handle the recording process on your own as well?

M: 没错。整个创作过程都在我的主导下完成，这让我能够从最初的构思到最终成品的每一个环节，始终保持清晰的创作愿景。这张专辑最棘手的地方不在于工作量，而在于如何让截然不同的音乐世界自然地共存。我不希望电子元素和工业元素仅仅像是金属乐曲上的“装饰品”；我的目标是让它们成为同一个有机整体的一部分。每一个合成音色、编程序列和氛围音层，都必须服务于叙事，并强化“机械之神”在整张专辑中的存在感。制作过程包含了大量的实验。有些歌是从吉他Riff开始创作的，有些则源于电子音型或概念构思。并没有什么固定的公式，我只是选择了最能服务于我想讲述的故事的那种方式。由于"Entropy of the Divine Machine"是一张概念专辑，我在创作时将其构思为一部反乌托邦科幻电影的原声带。挑战不仅在于创作出单首曲目，更在于让整张专辑呈现出一段连贯的旅程——从最初的“系统错误”一直到最终的“关机”。归根结底，我希望听众能有一种仿佛在见证一位“人造神”完整生命周期的感觉。每一个创作决策，都是围绕着这一目标做出的。

Absolutely. The entire creative process was developed under my direction, which allowed me to keep a very clear vision from the first idea to the finished album. What made this album particularly challenging wasn't the amount of work but the need to make very different musical worlds coexist naturally. I didn't want the electronic and industrial elements to feel like decorations added on top of metal songs. My goal was to make them part of the same organism. Every synthetic texture, programmed sequence and atmospheric layer had to serve the narrative and reinforce the presence of the Machine-God throughout the album.

The production process involved a lot of experimentation. Some songs started with riffs, others started with electronic patterns or conceptual ideas. There wasn't a fixed formula. I simply followed whatever approach best served the story I wanted to tell. Because Entropy of the Divine Machine is a concept album, I approached it almost like the soundtrack to a dystopian science-fiction film. The challenge was not only to create individual songs, but to make the entire album flow as a single journey, from the first system error to the final shutdown. In the end, I wanted the listener to feel as if they were witnessing the complete lifecycle of an artificial god. Every creative decision was made with that objective in mind.

What are the musical themes of this band, why did you choose them, and what do you aim to express through them? You also write the lyrics—what serves as the inspiration for those?

M: Ωverhuman Singularity 的音乐主题围绕着超人类主义、人工智能、技术信仰、数字威权主义，以及等待着每一个文明、每一个系统乃至每一位神祇的必然衰亡。我一直对这样一个现象很着迷：人类不断创造工具来解决自身的问题，但这些创造物往往会演变成远超其初衷的存在。我感兴趣的并非那种老套的“机器对抗人类”的叙事——这类题材已经被演绎过无数次了。我更想探讨的是：当技术演变为一种信仰体系时，会发生什么？当人们不再崇拜古老的神祇，转而崇拜起自己亲手创造的事物时，会发生什么？这一问题构成了"Entropy of the Divine Machine"这张专辑的基石。从歌词层面来看，这张专辑构建于一个虚构的宇宙之上，但其中许多核心理念都源于现实世界的发展。我们身处这样一个时代：人工智能、算法和数字网络对我们日常生活的影响，正逐年加深。我只是将这些概念推向了极致，并自问：如果这一进程在数百年间持续演变且不受任何制约，最终会走向何方？与此同时，我也从科幻作品、哲学、反乌托邦文学，甚至是传统的宗教象征中汲取灵感。我一直对宗教、帝国和意识形态的兴起、确立统治地位以及最终走向崩塌的过程深感着迷。在某种程度上，“机器之神”不过是又一个帝国、又一种宗教，也是人类追求永生的又一次尝试。不同之处在于，这一切并非基于信仰，而是基于代码；并非依托于大教堂，而是依托于电路。归根结底，我并不将这张专辑视为一种预言或警示，它更像是对“权力”本身的一种反思。无论这种权力掌握在君主、宗教、国家还是机器手中，它内部始终埋藏着自身衰落的种子。因此，这张专辑探讨的并非“机器之神”的崛起，而是揭示了一个事实：即便是一位数字神祇，也无法逃脱“熵增”的宿命。

The musical themes of Ωverhuman Singularity revolve around transhumanism, artificial intelligence, technological faith, digital authoritarianism and the inevitable decay that awaits every civilization, every system and every god. I've always been fascinated by the idea that humanity constantly creates tools to solve its problems, yet those same creations often become something far beyond their original purpose. What interested me wasn't the typical "machines versus humans" narrative. That's been done countless times. I was more interested in exploring what happens when technology becomes a belief system. What happens when people stop worshipping ancient gods and begin worshipping their own creations? That question became the foundation of Entropy of the Divine Machine. Lyrically, the album is built around a fictional universe, but many of the underlying ideas are inspired by real-world developments. We live in an age where artificial intelligence, algorithms and digital networks influence our daily lives more and more every year. I simply pushed those concepts to their most extreme conclusion and asked myself: what would happen if this process continued unchecked for centuries? At the same time, I draw inspiration from science fiction, philosophy, dystopian literature and even traditional religious symbolism. I've always been fascinated by how religions, empires and ideologies rise, establish dominance and eventually collapse. In many ways, the Machine-God is simply another empire, another religion and another attempt to achieve immortality. The difference is that it happens through code instead of faith, circuits instead of cathedrals. Ultimately, I don't see the album as a prediction or a warning. It's more of a reflection on power itself. Whether that power belongs to kings, religions, nations or machines, it always carries the seeds of its own decline. That's why the album isn't really about the rise of the Machine-God. It's about the realization that even a digital god cannot escape entropy.

V: 乐队的标志和专辑封面是你亲自设计的吗？专辑封面非常有创意，呈现出一种独特的“人工智能”美学。这个设计背后的构思是什么？

Did you design the band’s logo and the album artwork yourself? The album artwork is incredibly innovative—it has a distinct "artificial intelligence" aesthetic. What was the concept behind this design?

M: 是的，标志和专辑封面都是我亲自设计的。标志最初源于一个由人工智能生成的概念，考虑到该项目的主题，这显得非常契合。在此基础上，我在Photoshop中进行了大量的编辑和润色，直到它完全符合我为“Ωverhuman Singularity”所构想的形象。至于封面设计，我希望它能与专辑讲述同一个故事。机械之眼代表了“机械神”的觉醒，而带有控制论特征的头骨则象征着它神圣的形态及其最终的衰败。Ω 符号作为一种反复出现的标志，代表着超越、圆满与熵。我的目标是创造出一种既具未来感又带有宗教色彩的作品，仿佛技术本身已演变成一种全新的崇拜形式。

Yes, I designed both the logo and the album artwork myself. The logo actually started as an AI-generated concept, which felt quite appropriate given the themes of the project. From there, I heavily edited and refined it in Photoshop until it matched the identity I had envisioned for Ωverhuman Singularity. As for the artwork, I wanted it to tell the same story as the album. The mechanical eye represents the awakening of the Machine-God, while the cybernetic skull symbolizes its divine form and eventual decay. The Ω symbol acts as a recurring emblem of transcendence, completion and entropy. My goal was to create something that felt both futuristic and religious, as if technology itself had become a new form of worship

V: 专辑发布后，你有什么新的计划吗？能和大家分享一些细节吗？

Do you have any new plans following the release of this album? Could you share some details with everyone?

M: 目前，我的主要重心是继续拓展和完善“Ωverhuman Singularity”的世界观。这个项目引领我进入了一个与我以往风格截然不同的创作领域，而这恰恰是它最令人兴奋的地方。"Entropy of the Divine Machine"是第一步，它引入了“机械神”这一概念，并展现了它从升华到崩塌的历程。我觉得这一概念中仍蕴藏着巨大的未开发潜力，无论是在音乐层面还是歌词层面。未来的作品可能会进一步扩展这一神话体系，从同一世界观下的不同视角进行探索，甚至更深入地挖掘人类、技术与数字信仰之间的复杂关系。不过眼下，我想让这张专辑有足够的空间去沉淀，看看听众会如何与它产生共鸣。每个项目的演变路径各不相同，有时听众的反馈会为你揭示出一些你在创作之初未曾预料到的方向。有一点可以肯定：“Ωverhuman Singularity”绝不仅仅是一次“出一张专辑就结束”的实验。我觉得，对于这个项目所能达到的高度，我才刚刚开始探索。

At the moment, my main focus is to continue developing and refining the universe of Ωverhuman Singularity. This project pushes me into creative territory that is very different from what I'm usually known for, and that's precisely what makes it exciting. Entropy of the Divine Machine was the first step, introducing the Machine-God and its journey from ascension to collapse. I feel there's still a lot of unexplored potential within this concept, both musically and lyrically. Future material may expand the mythology, explore new perspectives within the same universe or even venture deeper into the relationship between humanity, technology and digital faith. For now, however, I want to give this album time to breathe and see how listeners connect with it. Every project evolves differently, and sometimes the audience helps reveal paths that you hadn't considered when you first started creating. One thing is certain: Ωverhuman Singularity is far from being a one-album experiment. I feel I've only begun to explore what this project is capable of becoming.
