今天采访到的是来自菲律宾的Death Metal乐队Comatose，组建于2003年的Comatose由jimboy，Lee，Milo共同组建，一开始乐队成员分别参加了一些其他的乐队，但是大家彼此认识，所以决定组建一支属于自己的乐队，最初乐队取名为Church Burner，但是大家觉得这个名字很老套，所以决定更名为Comatose，2004年开始乐队陆续发行了一些作品，2015年乐队在俄罗斯Satanath Records厂牌发行了第一张正式专辑，一张经典的Old School Death Metal作品诞生了，这张专辑也成为了菲律宾最出色的作品之一，精彩的Riff、沉重的鼓声、吉他Solo和恶魔般的演唱，Comatose是在这种风格音乐上保持纯粹的乐队之一。你可以在他们的音乐中听到一个明显的Morbid Angel, Deicide, Vomitory，甚至Slayer的影子。2018年乐队在Satanath Records厂牌发行了他们的第二张正式专辑，依旧是一张令人深刻的作品，2025年乐队推出了第三部作品，这也是2025年最精彩的作品之一，被很多乐评人点评，在新专辑发行之际杂志通过Satanath Records厂牌与乐队歌手Lee取得联系进行了一次专访！

Today's interview was with the Death Metal band Comatose from the Philippines. Comatose was formed in 2003 by Jimmy, Lee, and Milo. At first, the band members participated in some other bands, but they knew each other, so they decided to form their own band. The band was originally named Church Burner, but everyone felt that the name was clich é d, so they decided to rename it Comatose. Since 2004, the band has released some works. In 2015, the band released their first official album on the Satanath Records label in Russia, and a classic Old School Death Metal work was born. This album has become one of the most outstanding works in the Philippines, with exciting Riff, Heavy drumming, guitar solo, and devilish singing, Comatose is one of the bands that maintains purity in this style of music. You can hear a distinct shadow of Morbid Angel, Deicide, Vomitory, and even Slayer in their music. In 2018, the band released their second official album on Satanath Records, which remains a profound work. In 2025, the band released their third work, which is also one of the most exciting works of 2025 and has been praised by many music critics. On the occasion of the release of the new album, the magazine contacted the band's singer Lee through Satanath Records for an exclusive interview!

V: 你好兄弟，很高兴见到你，非常感谢你参加这次采访。我想这是你们乐队第一次接受中国杂志的采访。首先向所有中国球迷问好。Comatose成立于2003年，是一支历史悠久的乐队。你最初是怎么组建这个乐队的？

Hello brother, it's nice to meet you and thank you very much for participating in this interview. I think this is the first time your band has been interviewed by a Chinese magazine. First of all, let's say hello to all Chinese fans. Comatose was founded in 2003 and is a long-standing band. How did you form this band in the first place?

L: 兄弟万岁！！！首先，作为Comatose的一半，我感谢你的联系，是的，这是我们第一次接受中国杂志的采访。我不知道我们是否是有中国球迷，哈哈……但如果有，那就太棒了！！！是的，我们于2003年在宿务当地大学成立了一个大学乐队。起初，我加入了一个名为Goateye的乐队，Milo和Jimboy（鼓手）加入了另一支名为Putrid的乐队。Milo和我彼此认识，我们分享舞台和活动。有一天，Milo把我介绍给Moloy（声乐家），在那里我们聊了聊，交换了磁带，直到有一天我们决定组建一个乐队，Comatose就是这样形成的，我想大约是在2003年7月或8月。起初我给乐队起名叫Church Burner，但后来我意识到这听起来很老套，所以把它改成了Comatose。

Hailz brother!!! first of all in be half of Comatose I would thank you for reaching out, yeah for sure this is the 1st time We were interviewed by a Chinese magazine. I don’t know if their were Chinese fans out there lol… but if there's any that would be wonderful!!! Yes we started in 2003 as a college band in our local university here in Cebu. At first I was on a band Goateye at that time and milo and jimboy(drummer) were on the other band called Putrid. Milo and I knew each other we share stage and events. One day Milo introduce me to Moloy (Vocalist) and there we talk and trade tapes until one day we decided to make a band and that’s how comatose was formed I think its around July or August of 2003. At first I named the band Church Burner but later on I realized it sounds to corny so change it to Comatose.

V: 你的乐队目前只有一个第一代成员Milo Jan Mondejar，其他成员都已被替换。为什么第一代成员离开了乐队？新成员是怎么加入乐队的？你对新成员的工作满意吗？

Your band currently only has one first generation member, Milo Jan Mondejar, and all other members have been replaced. Why did the first generation member leave the band? How did the new members join the band? Are you satisfied with the new member's job?

L: Milo也在2006年左右离开了工作和家庭事务，当时他需要离开马尼拉，我想他在2012年左右全职回来了。Jimboy和Moloy他们因工作和家庭问题等个人原因离开了。为了让乐队努力，你需要找到丢失的谜题。说实话，在这种音乐中找到替代品并不容易，态度和奉献精神必须存在。我觉得我很幸运，这些家伙就在那里等着被选中。当然，我很满意，我不能要求更多！这些家伙倾其所有！支持就在那里！我知道没有完美的阵容，但我仍然很满意。如果有问题，我们坐下来讨论需要做什么。我们互相支持。我们有日常工作和家庭，我们需要尊重时间和空间。

Milo also left around 2006 for a job and family matters he needs to be out of Manila at that time and came back full time I think around 2012. Jimboy and Moloy They left for personal reasons like jobs and family issues. In order the band to strive you need to find the missing puzzle. To be honest its not that easy to find a replacement in this kind of music, attitude and dedication must be there. I think I’m just lucky this guys are just there waiting to picked. Of course I’m satisfied I cant ask for more! this guys gives everything they got! The support is all there! I know there’s no perfect line up but I’m still very satisfied. If there’s a problem We sit down and discussed whats need to be done We support each other We have day jobs and families we need to respect that time and space.

V: 你们乐队的每个成员都是有丰富创作经验的音乐家。你能介绍一下你的创作过程吗？我相信你的创作经验会给更多的年轻音乐家带来灵感！

Each member of your band is a musician with rich creative experience. Can you introduce your creative process? I believe your creative experience will bring inspiration to more young musicians!

L: 事实上，我们不是全职音乐家，我们每个人都有日常工作和家庭，这意味着我们每个人见面、写作和排练的时间都非常有限，与年轻时不同，我们有足够的时间去做。所以为了按时创作歌曲并取得进步。我亲自写所有东西，同时我也问我们的鼓手这个即兴重复段是否合适，或者需要这个或那个。对我来说，写歌时吉他和鼓总是很重要的。这几天，如果我脑子里有即兴重复段，我总是立刻把它录在手机里，这样我就不会忘记了。我们每个人写歌的方法都不一样。对我来说，你的影响力总是很重要，它会自动出现在你的即兴重复段中。你需要弄清楚如何安排或修改，只要感受一下，一切都会随之而来。

actually we are not full time musicians, each one of us has day jobs and family so it means each of us has very limited time to meet and write and rehearse not same as before in our younger years we had the whole time to do it. So in order to make songs and progress it on time. I personally write everything and in the mean time I also ask our drummer if this riff fits in or it needs to be this or that . For me its always the guitar and the drums matters when writing songs. This days If I have riff in my mind I always record it in my phone immediately so that I will not forget it. Everyone of us has different approach in writing songs. For me your influence always matters it will automatically come out in your riffs. It’s for you to figure out how to arrange or modify, just feel it and everything will follow.

V: 你们乐队的专辑录音效果很好。你在哪个录音室录制了这张专辑？哪位制作人为你制作了这张专辑？新专辑的录制过程进展顺利吗？

Your band's album recording effect is excellent. Which studio did you record the album in? Which producer made the album for you? Is the recording process of the new album progressing smoothly?

L: 哇，真的吗？谢谢，我真的很感激！！！工作室的名字是Chainzaw，这是我们第一次与老板Glen一起录制。我亲自制作了这张专辑。是的，录音过程非常顺利，因为我们的Glen作为一名录音师有着非常好的体验。他在工程、混音和掌握我们的最新专辑方面做得非常出色。

wow really? Thanks I really appreciate it!!! the studios name is chainzaw records its our 1st time recording with Glen the owner. I personally produced the album. Yeah the recording process was very smooth coz our guy Glen has a very good experience as a sound engr. He did an amazing job engineering, mixing and mastering our latest album.

V: 你是如何与Satanath Records和Dethrone Records建立联系并合作发行你的专辑的？你对这两个厂牌的工作满意吗？

How did you establish contact and collaborate with Satanath Records and Dethrone Records for the release of your album? Are you satisfied with the work of these two brands?

L: 2014/15年左右，我给很多唱片公司发了电子邮件，当时只有Satanath recs有兴趣发行我们的专辑。毫无疑问，我签了名，因为这张专辑自从我们完成录制以来，大约在2011年左右就睡着了。我们试图通过CD-r在本地发行，但这对我来说还不够，我需要一张专业发行CD。Dethrone Records是一家来自马尼拉的本地唱片公司，他只在2015年左右在CD-r的EP上发布了我们的Demo。一些歌曲后来出现在我们的第二张专辑中。

around 2014/15 I e-mailed a tons of label and Satanath recs is the only one who was interested to release our album at that time. With out any question I sign coz this album was sleeping around 2011 since we finished recording. We tried to release it locally thru CD-r but it wasn’t enough for me I need a pro release CD Dethrone Records is a local label from manila he only release our demos on an EP on CD-r around 2015. that some songs later appeared on our 2nd album.

V: 你们乐队的标志设计很漂亮。谁为你的乐队设计了这个标志？你的专辑封面设计也很漂亮，尤其是2025年的新专辑。谁为你设计了这些专辑艺术品？

Your band's logo design is very beautiful. Who designed this logo for your band? Your album artwork design is also very beautiful, especially for the new album in 2025. Who designed these album artworks for you?

L: 事实上，我们有一个由我们的原歌手Moloy绘制的旧标志，它的灵感来自Hypocrisy——非常相似——这就是为什么我试图修改一点——删除了一些明显的部分，使其看起来不像是模仿者。这件艺术品是由宿务当地艺术家赫尔姆斯画的，他很有天赋。我只是告诉他艺术的概念，他就做了剩下的。

Actually we had an old logo drawn by moloy our original vocalist it was inspired by hypocrisy quite similar that’s why I tried to modified a bit removed has obvious parts to be realistic that it will not appear as a copycat. The art work was painted by Herms a local artist here in cebu, the guy has an awesome talent. I just tell him the concept of the art and he did the rest.

V: 撒旦教、死亡、战争、反叛、黑暗历史是你的音乐主题。你为什么选择这个音乐主题？你想通过这个音乐主题表达什么？你还创建了歌词部分。谁创作了这些歌词，是什么启发了他们？

Satanism, Death, War, Anti rebellion, Dark history are your music themes. Why did you choose this music theme? What do you want to express through this music theme? You also created the lyrics section. Who created these lyrics and what inspired them?

L: 当你在一个极端的金属乐队中时，这个主题不可能不在你的名单上，也许还会加上血腥和末日。我们想表达每个宗教的虚伪——不仅仅是反基督教——它们都是一样的。他们想让我们崇拜天空中看不见的人？？？如果你不服从，你将在永恒的火焰中被诅咒，等等……除此之外，我还写了黑暗的历史、阴谋以及所有涉及死亡和黑暗的事情。当你结合你的想象力时，你可以写任何东西，没有界限，你自己的构图可以随心所欲，只要它与你的主题相一致，我从一开始就写了每一件事。

when your in an extreme metal band there is no way this themes is not your list maybe add gore and apocalypse as well . We want to express the hypocrisy in every religion not just anti-christian they are all the same. They want us to worship this invisible guys in the sky??? if you don’t obey you will be damned in eternal flame and etc…aside from that I also write about dark history, conspiracy and every thing that involves death and darkness. You can write anything when you combined with your imagination, there's no boundaries its your own composition do what you want as long as it aligns on your theme, I wrote every thing since the beginning.

V: 首先，祝贺你们乐队去年发行了一张新专辑。你的作品既残酷又复古，这让我想起了20世纪90年代佛罗里达州的Death Metal乐队。这些即兴的重复从中速到快速不等，独奏就像地狱里的恶魔一样野蛮。再加上即兴的重复，它们在音乐形式上实现了野蛮的纯粹平衡。歌手们唱得很激烈，你的作品是优秀的老作品。你对自己的作品有什么看法？新专辑和老专家之间有什么变化？

First of all, congratulations to your band for releasing a new album last year. Your work is cruel and retro, which reminds me of the death metal band in Florida in the 1990s. These improvised repetitions range from medium to fast, and the solos are as savage as demons from hell. Together with the improvised repetitions, they achieve a pure balance of barbarism in musical form. Singers sing fiercely, and your works are excellent old works. What is your opinion on your own works? What are the changes between the new album and the old expert?

L: 谢谢兄弟的欢呼！！！是的，坦帕佛罗里达的场景主要是我们受到Death, Morbid Angel, Deicide , Cannibal Corpse等的影响。你能想到的。一些影响也来自欧洲乐队，如老Hypocrisy, Sinister, Vader等等。我不知道，伙计，我只是拿起吉他，随机弹奏即兴重复段——如果我感觉不到，我会删除它，再弹一次，直到我满意为止——但是，有时候你很容易筋疲力尽，这并不能完成工作。所以我不强迫自己写作，我给自己放了一天假来提神。我的观点是，我认为我写的是一种Old Metal流派的结合，我不在乎他们是否喜欢。就是这样。改变？也许现在的制作技术比以前好得多，它易于获取，质量也更好，但对我来说，原始感仍然是获得好声音的关键，我不会过分修饰歌曲，它应该听起来很自然。几年前，你需要去录音室录制所有内容，现在你可以自己录制，只需投资一些东西，学习它，一切都在网上，做一些研究，你就可以开始了。

Thanks brother cheers!!! yeah mostly the tampa florida scene was our main influence from Death, Morbid Angel, Deicide , Cannibal corpse etc… you name it. Some influence also from European bands such as old hypocrisy, sinister, vader and to many to mention. I don’t know man I just grab the guitar and play random riff record it if I don’t feel it I delete it and play again until I’m satisfied but, it does not get the job done that easily you get drained sometimes. So I don’t push my self to write I gave my self a day off to refresh my mind. My opinion is I think I’m writing a combination of old metal genre and I don’t care if they don’t like it. that’s what it is. Changes? maybe production wise technology now is way better than before its easy to access and better quality but for me the rawness is still the key to a good sound I don’t over polished the songs it should sound organic. Couple of years ago you need to go to the studio to record everything now you can do it in your own, just invest some stuff learn it everything is in the net do some research and your good to go.

V: 作为一个老乐队，你参加过许多音乐节。哪些音乐节给你留下了深刻的印象？你能介绍一下当时的现场气氛吗？2026年，你们乐队将有哪些新的演出？

As an old band, you have participated in many music festivals. Which music festivals have left a deep impression on you? Can you introduce the live atmosphere at that time? What new performances will your band have in 2026?

L: 是的，我们在菲律宾有一些当地的节日。但最能推动我们的是当我们对外国乐队进行正面表演时，如Immolation、Sinister、fleshcraw等。这是我们从小就听的乐队，所以气氛非常热烈。与偶像分享舞台是一个难得的机会，为了让它值得，我们必须提供一场精彩的表演，让它令人难忘。

yeah we have some local festivals here in the Philippines. But what pushes us the most is when we do a front act on foreign bands such as Immolation, Sinister, fleshcrawl, and more. This were the bands we grew up listening so the atmosphere is so intense Sharing the stage with your idols is a rare opportunity, To make it worth we must deliver a good performance to make it memorable.

V: 你的乐队在2026年有什么新的工作要做？例如创作或录制新作品时，你能与每个人分享一些信息吗？

What new work does your band have to do in 2026? For example, when creating or recording new works, can you share some information with everyone?

L: 目前，我们正与Chainzaw Records合作，共同制作我们的第四张专辑。希望在2027年发布，目前还没有厂牌，们也期待着在东南亚进行一次海外迷你之旅，但我还不知道这是否朝着正确的方向发展，因为中东冲突现在正在影响一切，机票价格正在飙升……让我们看看会发生什么。

right now we are working on our 4th album with same in studio chainzaw records. Hopefully to be release in 2027, no label yet as of the moment. We are also looking forward for an overseas mini tour here in southeast asia but I don’t know yet if this go at the right direction coz the middle east conflict is affecting everything right now, air fare are souring high… lets see what will happen.

You are an excellent band, and I have listened to all of your albums. I will always pay attention to and support your band. I also hope to attract more Chinese fans to pay attention to and support your band through this interview.
