From the heavy power of traditional heavy metal to the fusion of metalcore, industrial music, and electronic elements, modern metal has constantly been pushing the boundaries of sound. Hailing from Stuttgart and Aschaffenburg, Germany, ANGA is a band exploring its own path within this evolving landscape. Through heavy riffs, powerful breakdowns, electronic atmospheres, and emotional melodic vocals, they have gradually developed a sound that combines dark emotions with modern textures. With the release of their latest single “Demons,” ANGA presents a more mature and aggressive direction. In this interview, we will explore their perspectives on metal music, creative philosophy, and future artistic exploration.

From Black Sabbath laying the foundation of heavy metal to the rise of new styles such as Metalcore and Modern Metal, metal music has constantly evolved. How do you view the role and position of modern metal within the overall history of metal?

A: 对我们来说，现代金属不过是重金属演变过程的一部分。金属音乐一直随着时间的推移而不断变化，我们认为“现代金属”是一个宽泛的术语，用来指代新一代乐队——它们在继承金属音乐根源的同时，将其与更现代的音色、制作手法和音乐影响相结合。

For us, modern metal is simply part of the evolution of heavy metal. Metal has always changed over time, and we see modern metal as a broad term for a newer generation of bands that take the roots of metal and combine them with newer sounds, production and influences.

V: 近年来，越来越多现代金属乐队开始融合电子音乐、工业元素以及流行音乐结构。你们认为这种“跨界融合”是金属发展的必然趋势，还是一种对传统的挑战？

In recent years, more and more modern metal bands have incorporated electronic music, industrial elements, and pop-oriented structures into their sound. Do you see this kind of cross-genre fusion as an inevitable direction for metal’s development, or as a challenge to traditional metal?

A: 我们确实看到了这种发展趋势。对我们来说，现代金属或金属核丝毫没有取代经典金属。它只是经典金属的另一个分支罢了。我们喜欢现代金属的一点在于，它既可以融入电子、工业甚至流行音乐的元素，又能始终保持其核心的厚重感。

We definitely see that development. For us, modern metal or metalcore doesn't replace classic metal at all. It's simply another branch of it. One of the things we like about modern metal is that you can bring in electronic, industrial or even pop elements and still keep the heaviness at the core.

V: 你们从 2021 年首张专辑"Shadows"到"Straight to Hell"EP，再到最新单曲"Demons"，音乐风格似乎越来越黑暗和厚重。这个变化是有意识规划的，还是随着成员经历自然形成的？

From your debut album Shadows in 2021, to the Straight to Hell EP, and now your latest single “Demons,” your music seems to have become increasingly darker and heavier. Was this evolution a conscious artistic decision, or did it naturally develop through your experiences as musicians?

A: 这两方面都有。有些变化是随着时间推移自然发生的，而有些则更具目的性。不同的成员也为乐队带来了不同的影响。Marvin引入了更多的嘶吼和呐喊，Tommy推动了更重型的音色和低音调吉他，而Gabriel在鼓点和许多编曲方面发挥了重要作用。所以，这并不是一个突然改变乐队的重大决定。我们的音乐风格是逐步发展而来的，但与此同时，我们确实希望朝着更重型的方向发展。

It was a bit of both. Some changes happened naturally over time, while others were more intentional. Different members have also brought different influences into the band. Marvin brought in more screams and shouts, Tommy pushed the heavier sound and lower-tuned guitars, and Gabriel has a big role when it comes to the drums and many of the arrangements. So it wasn't one big decision to suddenly change the band. The sound developed step by step, while at the same time we definitely wanted to move in a heavier direction.

V4: 最新单曲"Demons"的主题围绕“恶魔”展开。这里的“Demons”更多指向内心挣扎、心理阴影，还是现实社会中的某些问题？

The latest single “Demons” revolves around the concept of “demons.” Does this theme represent inner struggles and psychological shadows, or does it refer more to issues within society and the outside world?

A: "Demons"这首歌讲述的是我们内心的“恶魔”——那些我们有时难以应对的思绪、恐惧和情绪。创作灵感源于面对自身那些阴暗面时的体验，以及那种无法简单地逃避它们的感觉。这首歌非常个人化，因为它讲述的是直面这些“恶魔”，而不是任由它们控制自己。

"Demons" is about our own inner demons - thoughts, fears and emotions that we sometimes struggle with. The inspiration came from dealing with those darker parts of ourselves and from the feeling that you can't simply run away from them. The song is very personal because it's about facing those demons instead of letting them control you.

V: 现代社会中，人们经常面对压力、焦虑和身份困惑。ANGA 是否希望通过音乐传递某种精神力量或者价值观？

In modern society, people often face pressure, anxiety, and struggles with identity. Does ANGA hope to convey certain spiritual strength, values, or messages through your music?

A: 我们不想告诉人们在聆听我们的音乐时应该怎么想或怎么感受。如果我们的某首歌能帮助某人应对某些事情、暂时放松一下，或者仅仅是让他/她感觉不那么孤单，那已经意义重大了。而在现场演出中，我们希望人们能暂时忘却日常生活，感受到自己是金属乐迷大家庭的一员，并一起尽情享受这段美好时光。

We don't want to tell people what they should think or feel when they listen to our music. If one of our songs helps someone deal with something, switch off for a while or simply feel less alone, that already means a lot. And live, we want people to forget everyday life for a while, feel part of the metal community and just have a great time together.

V: 如果让你们用一句话描述 ANGA 想传递的核心理念，会是什么？

If you had to describe the core message of ANGA in one sentence, what would it be?

“你能感受到ANGA吗？”是我们的口号，它概括了我们的目标：通过音乐营造一种能让人久久难忘的感受。

"Can you feel the ANGA?" is our slogan, and it sums up what we want to do: create a feeling through our music that stays with people.

V: "Demons"的创作过程是怎样的？最初的灵感来自哪里？

What was the creative process behind “Demons”? Where did the initial inspiration for the song come from?

A: 在创作"Demons"时，先有了伴奏和主riff。这也是我们通常的创作开端。我们一般先制作一个粗略的伴奏版本，然后加入歌词和人声，之后再打磨细节，直到感觉歌曲完整为止。随着时间的推移，歌曲创作在乐队内部变得更加协作。有时Gabriel负责大部分编曲，有时Tommy或Marvin提出主要的伴奏创意，而Anne则负责写歌词。在其他歌曲中，我们几个人会共同参与创作。所以这真的取决于具体哪首歌，这也是我们非常喜欢目前这种工作方式的一点。

With "Demons", the instrumental and the main riff came first. That's also how we usually start writing. We normally build a rough instrumental version first, then the lyrics and vocals are added, and after that we work on the details until the song feels complete. Over time, the songwriting has become much more shared within the band. Sometimes Gabriel takes care of most of the arrangement, sometimes Tommy or Marvin bring in the main instrumental ideas, and Anne writes the lyrics. On other songs, several of us work on it together. So it really depends on the song, which is something we actually like about the way we work now.

ANGA’s music combines heavy riffs, breakdowns, electronic elements, and melodic vocals. How do you balance these different components while maintaining a cohesive emotional atmosphere throughout your songs?

A: 我们其实并没有固定的创作公式。每个元素都必须服务于歌曲本身。吉他即兴段落和节奏段落带来厚重感与能量，电子元素营造氛围，而人声则赋予旋律与情感。关键在于，整首歌要给人一种浑然一体的感觉，而不是零散想法的拼凑。重金属部分与旋律部分之间的对比，正是ANGA音乐风格的重要组成部分。

We don't really use a fixed formula. Every element has to serve the song.The riffs and breakdowns bring the weight and energy, the electronic elements add atmosphere, and the vocals bring melody and emotion. The important thing is that it all feels like one song and not like a collection of separate ideas. That contrast between heavy and melodic parts is a big part of the ANGA sound.

V: 你们认为现代 Metalcore 最大的魅力是什么？相比传统金属，它带来了哪些新的表达方

式？

What do you think is the greatest appeal of modern Metalcore? Compared with traditional metal, what new forms of expression does it bring?

A: 现代金属核最棒的地方之一就是这种反差。你可以先来一段大家能跟着唱的副歌，然后直接切入非常重型的吉他riff或breakdown。电子元素能让整首歌的氛围显得更加恢弘。与更传统的金属音乐相比，这种风格在融入流派之外的声音方面可能拥有更大的自由度。这让你可以在一首歌中以多种方式融合不同的情感和风格。

One of the best things about modern metalcore is the contrast. You can have a chorus people can sing along to and then go straight into a really heavy riff or breakdown. Electronic elements can make the whole thing feel even bigger. Compared with more traditional metal, there is probably more freedom to bring in sounds from outside the genre. That gives you a lot of ways to combine different emotions and styles within one song.

V: 你们的作品中有大量低音调、厚重的吉他音色。对于现代金属来说，你们认为一个优秀的Riff应该具备哪些特点？

Your music features many low-tuned guitars and massive, heavy tones. From your perspective, what qualities make a great riff in modern metal?

A: 一个好的即兴段落必须能立刻抓住你的注意力，让你在还没来得及多想之前就不由自主地跟着节奏摇头晃脑。它应该有自己的特色和一些变化，但不必过于复杂。对我们来说，律动感、能量以及让人过耳不忘的旋律，远比仅仅为了炫技而刻意让即兴段落变得技术难度高要重要得多。

A good riff has to grab you straight away and make your head move before you even think about it. It should have character and some variation, but it doesn't need to be complicated. For us, groove, energy and something that sticks in your head are much more important than making a riff technically difficult just for the sake of it.

V: Breakdown 是 Metalcore 文化中非常重要的元素。你们在设计Breakdown时，更注重现场带动性，还是音乐结构中的情绪爆发？

Breakdown is one of the most important elements in Metalcore culture. When creating breakdowns, do you focus more on creating an explosive live atmosphere, or on enhancing the emotional impact within the song structure?

A: 对我们来说，这两方面都有所涉及。首先，段落划分必须在歌曲中合乎逻辑，并能为歌曲的结构或情感增添色彩。一旦这一点做到了，我们自然也会开始考虑它在现场演出时的效果。有时在创作过程中，我们就已经知道某个部分在舞台上会表现得非常出色。因此，现场演出的考量无疑也是歌曲创作过程的一部分。

For us, it's a bit of both. First of all, the breakdown has to make sense in the song and add something to the structure or emotion. Once that works, we naturally start thinking about how it will feel live as well. Sometimes while writing we already know that a certain part will work really well in a pit. So the live side of it is definitely part of the songwriting process too.

V: "Demons"由乐队成员自己的录音室完成录制，并由 Thomas Höflein 负责混音与母带制作。自己掌控制作流程对于最终声音呈现有什么影响？

“Demons” was recorded in studios operated by your own band members, with Thomas Höflein responsible for mixing and mastering. How does maintaining control over the production process influence the final sound of the song?

A: 我们非常幸运，因为乐队内部就能完成大部分制作工作。我们有三个录音室可以使用，这给了我们很大的自由度。在"Demons"这张专辑中，鼓声是在Helios Studio与Gabriel一起录制的，而人声和嘶吼部分则是在SFR Recordings与Marvin一起录制的。Tommy深度参与了歌曲创作，并负责了混音和母带处理。正因为我们能自己完成这么多工作，所以可以大胆尝试、快速调整，并确保整个制作过程始终与乐队紧密相连。最终，Tommy在混音环节将所有元素完美融合，这有助于赋予歌曲一贯的ANGA风格。

We're very lucky because we can do a lot of the production within the band. We have three studios we can work in, which gives us a lot of freedom. For "Demons", the drums were recorded at Helios Studio with Gabriel, while the vocals and shouts were recorded with Marvin at SFR Recordings. Tommy was heavily involved in the songwriting and also handled the mixing and mastering. Because we can do so much ourselves, we can try things out, make changes quickly and keep the whole production close to the band. In the end, Tommy brings everything together in the mix, which helps give the songs a consistent ANGA sound.

V: 金属现场一直强调人与人之间的能量交流，例如Mosh Pit、Wall of Death等文化。你们认为现场体验对于金属音乐的重要性是什么？

Metal live performances have always emphasized the exchange of energy between musicians and audiences, with traditions such as Mosh Pits and Wall of Death becoming important parts of the culture. How important do you think the live experience is to metal music?

A: 对我们来说，现场演出大概是乐队生活中最重要的一部分。你可以花几个月的时间打磨一首歌，但当你终于在观众面前演奏它时，那种感觉完全不同。来自观众的热情、疯狂的摇滚圈、大家跟着一起唱——正是这些让歌曲真正活了起来。对我们来说，这就是幕后所有努力的回报。

Playing live is probably the most important part of being in a band for us. You can spend months working on a song, but the moment you finally play it in front of people is completely different. The energy from the crowd, mosh pits, people singing along - that's where the song really comes alive. For us, that's the payoff for all the work that happens behind the scenes.

V: 在德国以及欧洲金属现场文化中，你们观察到了哪些变化？年轻一代听众对于现代金属有什么新的需求？

From your perspective, what changes have you observed in the metal live scene in Germany and Europe? What new expectations or demands do younger generations of metal listeners have toward modern metal?

A: 从我们在演出现场看到的反应来看，如今观众对现场演出的期待已不再仅仅是歌曲演奏得准确无误。音效、能量、视觉效果以及整体氛围都变得愈发重要，尤其是在现代金属音乐领域。年轻观众似乎也对跨流派融合持非常开放的态度，因此电子乐段、流行音乐元素以及极具冲击力的重金属段落，完全可以在同一场演出中并存，而不会让人感到突兀。对我们来说，目标是创造一场真正的沉浸式体验，而不仅仅是演奏完歌曲就离开舞台。

From what we see at shows, people expect more from a live performance today than just hearing the songs played correctly. Sound, energy, visuals and the whole atmosphere have become much more important, especially in modern metal. Younger audiences also seem very open to mixing genres, so electronic parts, pop influences and really heavy sections can all exist in the same show without feeling strange. For us, the goal is to create an actual experience and not simply play the songs and leave the stage.

V: "Demons"是否代表 ANGA 下一阶段音乐方向？未来作品会继续探索更黑暗、更重型的声音吗？

Does “Demons” represent the direction of ANGA’s next chapter? Will your future releases continue exploring darker and heavier sounds?

A: 是的。"Demons"基本上是ANGA下一阶段的起点。新歌确实受到了更多金属核的影响，其中一些甚至更加重金属，但我们并不希望每首歌都听起来一样。其中仍然会有较为柔和、旋律性更强的段落——我们甚至还创作了一首抒情曲。

Yes. "Demons" was basically the starting point for the next chapter of ANGA. The newer songs definitely have more metalcore influence and some of them are even heavier, but we don't want every song to sound the same. There will still be quieter and more melodic moments as well - we've even written a ballad.

V: 对第一次接触 ANGA 的听众，你们最希望他们通过你们的音乐了解到什么？

For listeners discovering ANGA for the first time, what is the most important thing you hope they can understand or feel through your music?

A: 我们希望人们能感受到我们音乐中的情感与能量，无论是录音作品，尤其是现场演出。在舞台上，我们不想扮演角色，也不想伪装成自己本非那样的样子。我们只想做自己，倾尽全力，让观众融入演出之中。如果大家回家时脸上带着笑容，并觉得刚刚度过了一个非常棒的金属之夜，那正是我们所期望的。

We want people to feel the emotion and energy in our music, both on record and especially live. On stage, we don't want to play a role or pretend to be something we're not. We just want to be ourselves, give everything we have and bring the crowd into the show. If people go home with a smile and the feeling that they've just had a really great metal night, then that's exactly what we want.

Finally, could you introduce ANGA to Chinese metal fans in one sentence?
