今天采访到的是来自加拿大的一支新晋Heavy / Thrash Metal乐队Guardians of Purgatory，Magnus Chien和Rylan Jones离开了他们参加的Viper Church乐队之后并不想结束自己的音乐生涯，所以在2025年他们两个人组建了Guardians of Purgatory乐队，不久之后两个人发行了第一首单曲“The Man in the Padded Cell”，这首单曲发行之后便吸引了当地歌迷的关注，Guardians of Purgatory是受到了传统Heavy / Thrash Metal影响很深的乐队，如果你喜欢传统Heavy / Thrash Metal这种风格的话，Guardians of Purgatory乐队的作品绝对会让你欣喜诺狂，随着时间的推移乐队决定招募其他的成员加入乐队，让乐队拥有一个完整的阵容，Adam Babadi，Evan Andrews，Eddie Emery三名成员加入乐队并且在2026年以全新的阵容发行了他们的第二首单曲“Guardians of Hell”，新单曲发行之际杂志与乐队成员取得联系进行了一次专访！

Today we’re interviewing Guardians of Purgatory, an up-and-coming Heavy/Thrash Metal band from Canada. After Magnus Chien and Rylan Jones left Viper Church, they had no intention of ending their musical careers, so in 2025, the two formed Guardians of Purgatory. Shortly thereafter, they released their first single, “The Man in the Padded Cell.” The single immediately captured the attention of local fans. Guardians of Purgatory is a band deeply influenced by traditional Heavy/Thrash Metal. If you enjoy this style, their music is sure to thrill you. As time went on, the band decided to recruit additional members to complete their lineup. Adam Babadi, Evan Andrews, and Eddie Emery joined the band, and in 2026, they released their second single, “Guardians of Hell,” with this new lineup. To mark the release of the new single, the magazine reached out to the band members for an exclusive interview!

Hello brother, nice to meet you and thank you very much for participating in this interview. I think this is the first time your band has been interviewed by a Chinese magazine. First of all, I would like to say hello to all Chinese fans and friends. Guardians of Purge was founded in 2025 and is a very young band. How did you form this band in the first place?

R: Guardians of Purgatory最初由Rylan Jones和Magnus Chien在离开名为Viper Church的乐队后共同创立。Rylan希望与挚友Magnus一起，通过乐队首支单曲"man in the padded cell"来尝试自己的创意构想。这首歌讲述了一个被困在软垫牢房中逐渐精神崩溃的男人的故事。随着时间推移，我们陆续招募了其他成员。目前阵容包括：主唱兼主音吉他手Rylan Jones、贝斯手Magnus Chien、主音吉他手Eddie Emery、鼓手Evan Andrews，以及在现场演出中担任节奏吉他手的Adam Babadi！

Guardians of Purgatory was originally founded by Rylan Jones and Magnus Chien after leaving a band called Viper Church. Rylan wanted to experiment with his own creative ideas with his close friend Magnus on man in the padded cell, which was the first song we ever dropped. It tells the story of a man losing his mind while trapped inside of a padded cell. Over time we found other band members to fill the spots we now have Rylan jones on lead guitar and vocals, Magnus Chien on bass, Eddie Emery on lead guitar, Evan Andrews on drums and we have Adam Babadi on rythm guitar for live shows!

Your band currently only has two members, Rylan Jones and Magnus Chien, which will make it more convenient for you to create songs according to your ideas. Can you introduce your creative process?

R: 自从我们发布了前两首歌以来，乐队阵容现在已经完整了！最初的创作过程很简单：Rylan 会做个噩梦，然后把想到的点子和即兴段落写下来！现在有了完整的乐队，我们会一起构思点子，共同分享创作过程！而且我必须说，乐队目前正在筹备一些超棒的作品

Our band now has a full line up since our first 2 songs! And the original creative process would be simple. Rylan would have a nightmare and write down the ideas and riffs! Now with a whole band we come up with ideas together and share the creative process together! And I must say the band has some AMAZING things in the works

You only have members, but in your photos, I see a drummer who is not on your member list. Can you introduce this drummer?

Our drummers name is Evan Andrews! He’s absolutely incredible

You have only released two singles so far, but the recording effects of these two singles are excellent. Which studio did you record the album in? Which producer created these two singles for you?

We originally started producing with Martelins Music (Christopher Martins) he is an incredible producer and mixed MITPC (Man in the Padded Cell) after we made the song Rylan decided that the band was gonna try a different producer for the next song since he wanted to have the song for a specific due date. GOH (Guardians of Hell) was mixed by BBR (Nikhil Shetty) as great as the song was we knew it wasn’t quite our sound, so we decided that we are going back to Martelins Music and Recording in the Purgatory Lounge (Rylans basement)

The logo design of your band is very simple, but this design is my personal favorite form because I can easily remember your names. Who designed this logo for you? Your album artworks are all designed in cartoon form. I really like your artworks. Who designed these artworks for you?

R: 起初我只是画了乐队标志的草图，等觉得满意后，就发给了我们来自比利时的设计师她叫Eunice Thambo，她把标志矢量化处理，让它变得很漂亮！她还设计了"MITPC"的单曲封面！之后我们决定支持本地艺术家，助力身边的创作者。我们非常重视本地艺术家以及周围人的作品！支持我们的社区，正是我们对粉丝支持的回馈！于是我们聘请了Reese Roddick作为我们的新艺术家！他目前是Guardians of Purgatory的专属艺术家

So I originally drew the band logo for sketches and when I was happy with it I sent it off to our artist from Belgium her name was Eunice Thambo and she vectored the logo and made it pretty! She also designed the single cover for MITPC! After that we decided to go local and support our artists around us. We really value the local artists and work from people around us! Supporting our community is how we give back from the fans support! So we hired Reese Roddick as our new artist! He is the current artist for Guardians of Purgatory

V: 你的音乐主题是什么？为什么选择这个音乐主题，又想通过它表达什么？你还创作了歌词部分。这些歌词是谁写的，创作灵感来自哪里？

What is the theme of your music about? Why did you choose this music theme, and what do you want to express through this music theme? You also created the lyrics section. Who created these lyrics and what inspired them?

R: 音乐主题源于我（Rylan）经历的许多诡异梦境和情绪，为了解释那些毫无逻辑的梦境，我不得不创作同样有些莫名其妙的歌曲。我希望这个主题仅仅围绕大脑中能构想出的那些诡异超现实的事物。我（Rylan）创作了乐队80%的歌词，它们全都源自我的噩梦。

The music theme came from a lot of strange dreams and emotion that I (Rylan) was having, and to explain my dreams that didn’t make sense I had to write songs that also didn’t exactly make sense. I wanted the theme just to be about creepy surreal things your brain can make up in your mind. I (Rylan) have written 80% of all the lyrics for the band, and they all come from my nightmares.

First of all, congratulations to your band for discovering new works this year. Your works have been deeply influenced by traditional heavy metal, such as the razor sharp Riff, powerful and fast drumming, and powerful singing, which make your works full of vitality and passion. What is your opinion on your own works?

R: 我觉得我们的歌非常独特又怪异。我们其实并不遵循写歌的“规则”，我基本上就是写下感觉对了的东西，然后祈祷它能奏效。我认为我们乐队未来的前景一定充满希望且前途无量，我非常期待看到我们未来的发展！

I think our songs are VERY unique and strange. We don’t really follow the “rules” to song writing i kinda just write what ever feels right to put there and pray it works. I think our band certainly has a positive and strong career ahead of us and I’m extremely excited to see where we go!

V: 你们乐队参加过哪些现场演出？哪些演出给你们留下了深刻印象？能否介绍一下当时的现场氛围？2026年还有哪些新的演出在等着你们？

What live performances have your band participated in? What live performances left a deep impression on you? Can you introduce the atmosphere at that time? What new performances are waiting for you in 2026?

R: 到目前为止，我们的乐队只在 Rockpile 演出过一场，但我觉得作为首秀，我们的配合已经非常默契了！那场演出反响极佳，以至于我们不断接到后续演出的邀约

Our band has only played one show so far at the Rockpile and I would say we were extremely tight for our first show! We did so well that we are constantly getting booked for more shows coming up

Which bands have influenced your band? Can you list some of your favorite bands?

R: 我们的乐队深受以下乐队的影响（但不限于）：Iron Maiden、Megadeth、Tool、Pantera、Dream Theater、Metallica和Slayer

Our band is HEAVILY inspired by and not limited too: Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Tool, Pantera, Dream Theatre, Metallica and Slayer

V: 2026年你们有什么新计划？比如制作并录制首张正式专辑？有没有考虑过寻找唱片公司合作，以发行未来的专辑？

What new work do you have to do in 2026? For example, creating and recording your first official album? Have you considered finding a label to collaborate with for future albums?

R: 我们正在筹备一张包含8首歌曲的专辑！不过目前还没有确定发行日期，而且我们会保持独立，不签约任何唱片公司！

We are working on an album of 8 songs! But we don’t have a confirmed date yet , and we are gonna stay independent from labels!

V: 你们是一支充满活力的年轻乐队，我将一直关注并支持你们。我也希望通过这次采访，能吸引更多中国乐迷关注并支持你们的乐队。采访即将结束，最后你们有什么想对中国的乐迷和朋友们说的吗？

You are a vibrant young band, and I will always pay attention to and support your band. I also hope to attract more Chinese fans to pay attention to and support your band through this interview. The interview is coming to an end, do you have anything you want to say to Chinese fans and friends at the end?
