今天采访到的是来自法国的Heavy / Speed Metal乐队Titan，组建于1986年的Titan是法国一支法国非常有资历的老牌乐队，在组建不久之后乐队便发行了第一张正式专辑“Titan”，受到了法国歌迷的关注，具有攻击性的Riff，精彩的编曲，他们的作品让每一个歌迷都感受到了Metal的激情。1988年乐队发行了一张现场录音专辑之后宣布解散，直到2017年乐队才宣布重新组建，除了第一任吉他手Sébastien Blanc回归，其余成全全部更换，乐队也以全新的阵容回归，2020年乐队发行了最新单曲“Résurrection”强势回归，2021年乐队在法国Grumpy Mood Records厂牌发行了他们的第二张正式专辑“Palingenesia”，依旧还是大家熟悉的Titan乐队，2025年乐队与法国的老牌厂牌Adipocere Records合作发行了他们的第三张正式专辑“Lacrimæ Mundi”，在新专辑发行之际杂志与Titan乐队取得联系进行了一次专访！

Today's interview was with the French heavy/speed metal band Titan. Titan, formed in 1986, is a highly qualified French veteran band. Shortly after their formation, the band released their first official album "Titan", which attracted the attention of French fans. Their aggressive Riff and wonderful arrangements made every fan feel the passion of Metal. After releasing a live recording album in 1988, the band announced their disbandment. It wasn't until 2017 that the band announced their reorganization, with all but the first guitarist S é bastien Blanc returning. The band also returned with a brand new lineup. In 2020, the band released their latest single "R é rectification" and made a strong comeback. In 2021, the band released their second official album "Palingensia" on the French label Grumpy Mood Records, still known as Titan. In 2025, the band collaborated with the veteran French label Adipocere Records to release their third official album "Lacrim æ Mundi", which was released by the magazine on the occasion of the new album's release. I contacted Titan band for an exclusive interview!

Hello brother, it's a pleasure to meet you and be able to participate in this interview. I think this is the first time your band has been interviewed by a Chinese magazine. First of all, all Chinese fans and friends say hello. Titan band was founded in 1986 and is a long established band with a long history. How did you first form this band? What does the name Titan mean?

Hello to Volcano and to all your readers. First of all, thank you so much for your interest for Titan. It’s actually our first interview for a chinese magazine and a joy to answer your questions. Titan was established in 1986 in Bayonne (south west of France) after four members left their previous band Killers (which still exists and in fact never stopped !). Back in the days i was a member of Phantom Lord, a Thrash Metal band as you can imagine. It was a surprise for me to be contacted by musicians that were my local heroes, i was so young… impossible to refuse their proposal despite my commitment to my first band. My new partners where still in contact with Sydney Productions that was Killer’s label. They were interested in the new project and the new songs. I remember that some band names went on the table but Titan quickly made off with the pot. The gods of greek mythology ! a great name for our Heavy Speed Metal, symbol of power, with a rich graphic universe for the artwork to come (that was finally inspired by a Siudmak master piece).

V: 你的乐队现在只有一个原始成员Sébastien，其他成员都是新成员。为什么第一代成员离开了乐队？新成员是如何加入乐队的，你对他们的工作满意吗？

Your band now only has one original member, Sébastien, and the other members are all new members. Why did the first generation members leave the band? How did the new members join the band and are you satisfied with their work?

in the 80’s, it was almost impossible for an underground french band like Titan to live from its music. Things have evolved and the situation is better now, but back then France was not the best country for Rock music and Metal in particular. We were passionate, but it was not sufficient when you need to eat. So in 1988 we decided to stop. The fact is we had two great years playing together. In 2016, Patrice Le Calvez the former singer contacted me because he had the idea of an Accept cover-band. It was an instant yes for me ! We naturally proposed to the ancient Titans to join us but only Patrice Têtevuide (guitar) gave a positive answer. Anyway it was not difficult to find other guys, there are a lot of musicians around Bayonne. This project lasted approximately one year until some friend of us suggested to resurrect Titan. After realizing that there was a huge interest for old school Metal, we decided to start again and work on a new album. Since 2016 some members abandoned for family reasons or because they wanted something different. That’s the life of many music bands. We had the chance to right away find Romain (guitar), Loïc (bass) and Peio (voice) to continue the journey. I always had good times with Titan, but i must say that with these new guys, it’s a kind of a dream team. I hope it will last.

Each of you members is an experienced musician in creating music. Can you introduce your creative process? I believe your creative experience will bring inspiration to more young musicians!

R: 事实上，我们有一个非常常见的方法。大多数时候，Sébastien和我都会带来即兴重复段和或多或少的高级草稿。然后，我们在排练期间一起制作这些新材料。目的是每个成员都可以修改和/或添加新元素。最后，当器乐部分好的时候，Peio和Sébastien开始创作歌词和声乐旋律。即使他们提前有了想法，在我们的创作过程中，音乐总是第一位的。最后，在最终录制之前，我们做了很多Demo，以确保一切都很好。

Well, actually we have a pretty common way to proceed. Most of the time, Sébastien and I bring riffs and more or less advanced drafts. Then, we work this new material all together during rehearsals.The aim is that each member can modify and/or add new elements. Finally, when the instrumental parts are ok, Peio and Sébastien work on the lyrics and vocal melodies. Even if they have ideas in advance, the music always comes first in our creative process. At last, before the final recording, we make a lot of demos to make sure that everything fits well.

V: 你的音乐主题是什么？你为什么选择这个音乐主题，你想通过这个音乐主题表达什么？你还创建了歌词部分。谁创作了这些歌词，是什么启发了他们？

What is the theme of your music about? Why did you choose this music theme, and what do you want to express through this music theme? You also created the lyrics section. Who created these lyrics and what inspired them?

S: 我认为我们可以将我们的音乐描述为传统的重金属音乐，主要受到Judas Priest、Accept或Metallica/Megadeth等乐队的启发。我们也喜欢其他或多或少有意识地影响我们写作的音乐风格。我们在构建即兴重复段时非常关注，因为对我们来说，即兴重复段是Metal的核心。但这只是一个元素，歌曲的主要部分是佩奥旋律和歌词的载体。一旦我们对第一步感到满意，我们就会花时间精心编排音乐，以突出这首歌。至于歌词，它们是佩奥写的，在较小程度上是我自己写的。人类问题是我们灵感的主要来源。关于我们生活的世界，有很多话要说！环境、不公正、政治、有害技术…

i think we can describe our music as traditional Heavy Speed Metal mainly inspired by bands like Judas Priest, Accept or Metallica / Megadeth. We also love other styles of music that more or less consciously impact our writing. We pay great attention when building riffs, because for us, riffing is at the core of Metal. But this is just an element, the main part of the song being the vehicle for the Peio’s melodies and lyrics. Once we’re satisifed with this first step, we spend time to elaborate musical arrangements in order to highlight the song. Concerning lyrics, they’re written by Peio, and by myself to a lesser extent. Humanity’s issues are our main source of inspiration. There’s so much to say about the world we live in ! environment, injustice, politics, detrimental technologies…

V: 你和Adipocere唱片、Grumpy Mood唱片、Sydney Productions唱片公司合作发行了专辑。你是如何与这些厂牌合作关系的？你对这些厂牌作满意吗？

You and Adipocere Records, Grumpy Mood Records, Sydney Productions and other labels have collaborated to release albums. How did you establish contact with these labels for cooperation? Are you satisfied with the work of these brands?

Things have changed a lot between the 80s and now regarding the role of record labels, but one thing hasn't changed: the band has always been supported by passionate labels. When the band formed after the split of Killers, Sydney Productions immediately showed interest and financed their first two albums (1986's "Titan" and 1988's "Popeye le Road"). Similarly, when the band announced their comeback in 2017 and began working on a new album, Grumpy Mood Records also expressed interest and signed them. When the idea of releasing a new album in 2025 took shape, we once again approached record labels to see who would be interested, and the best response came from the legendary French label Adipocere. From our very first contact, we felt we were dealing with a passionate individual who had already been a fan of the band back in 1986. The choice was therefore a natural one, and we are very satisfied with the work done by the label, both in terms of promotion (which has allowed us to talk with you today), distribution, and also the quality of the products. This is very important to us, and the vinyl is magnificent.

V: 你们乐队的标志设计很独特。谁为你设计了这个标志？您的专辑艺术品也以独特的方式设计。谁为你设计了这些专辑艺术品？

Your band's logo design is very unique. Who designed this logo for you? Your album artworks are also designed in a unique way. Who designed these album artworks for you?

i don’t remember all the details but i think the idea of the “stone logo” was to evoke heaviness, indestructibility. Iñaki our drummer upgraded it few years ago but without changing it fundamentally. Stan Decker, a well known french artwork designer also worked on it for Palingenesia. Our logo is a major element of Titan’s visual identity. We are always looking for singularity. 1986 artwork was a very good point of entry with a direct link to the band’s name. With 1988 live album we wanted something funny. For the return with Palingenesia we needed something simple, efficient and clear with a modernized logo and new symbols. We are very satisfied of Lacrimæ Mundi’s design imagined by Peio who worked closely with Frédéric Steinmetz, a friend of him specialized in comic strips. Peio gave all the elements to Fred, with the idea to evoke the lyrics of our songs in several graphic elements. Whether you like the style or not, there’s a story and dynamics in this painting. I think that with its old school vibe, it’s at least interesting.

V: 首先，祝贺你们乐队在2025年发行最新专辑。你的音乐风格多种多样，包括具有纯粹而强烈的重即兴重复段和咆哮人声的歌曲，以及具有更多旋律元素的传统金属作品。节奏高亢，各种重复段交织在一起，沉重而刺耳的吉他音调贯穿其中。你对自己的作品有什么个人看法吗？新专辑和旧专辑之间有什么变化？

First of all, congratulations to your band for releasing their latest album in 2025. Your music style is diverse, including songs with pure and intense heavy riffs and roaring vocals, as well as traditional metal works with more melodic elements. The rhythm is high pitched, and various riffs are intertwined, with a heavy and piercing guitar tone running through it. Do you have any personal opinions on your own works? What are the changes between the new album and the old album?

R: 谢谢你的祝贺！我们很难对自己的作品发表评论。事实上，我们玩这些新歌很有趣，即使它们不完美，我们也为它们感到骄傲。这才是最重要的。那么，我们所能做的就是希望人们能在听我们的音乐时玩得开心。关于新旧事物的区别，这可能只是阵容变化的反映：新人，其他影响。..但我们也想继续提供一些新鲜的东西。以前的专辑很棒，但乐队一次又一次地制作同样的东西并不有趣。

Thanks for your congrats! It's difficult for us to comment on our own work. Actually, we have a lot of fun playing these new songs and even if they're not perfect, we're pretty proud of them. That's what matters. Then, all we can do is hope people will have a good time listening to our music. About the difference between old stuff and new stuff, it may just be the reflection of line up changes : new guys, other influences... But we also wanted to go ahead providing something fresh. Previous albums are great but it wouldn't be interesting for the band to make the same thing again and again.

V: 作为一支经典的老乐队，你参加了许多现场表演。哪些现场表演给你留下了深刻的印象？你能介绍一下当时的气氛吗？2026年还有哪些音乐节邀请你参加？

As a classic old band, you have participated in many live performances. Which live performances have left a deep impression on you? Can you introduce the atmosphere at that time? What other music festivals invite you to participate in 2026?

L: 2025年，为了庆祝这张专辑的发行，我们在巴黎和巴约讷（我们的家乡）组织了一次小型巡演，我们将发行日期定在Vouziers音乐节（一个法国机构，该音乐节自1986年以来就存在了（就像Titan一样），乐队已经在那里演出了四次）。这个发布日期的自然选择是一个真正的成功，因为我们在默奇展台签名了四个多小时。我们即将在法国和国外举办几个节日，如诺曼底金属节（以索蒂列日和杀手等为特色，在沃齐尔斯举行）、巴黎附近的Mennecy节和西班牙的Heavy Jaia。其他日期也在谈判中，我们希望很快公布。

In 2025, to celebrate the album's release, we organized a mini-tour in Paris and Bayonne (our hometown), and we set the release date to coincide with the Vouziers festival (a French institution, the festival has existed since 1986 (like Titan) and the band has already played there four times). This natural choice of release date was a real success, as we signed autographs for over four hours at the merch stand. We have several festivals coming up, both in France and abroad, such as the Normandy Metal Fest (featuring Sortilège and Killers, among others, in Vouziers), the Mennecy Festival near Paris, and Heavy Jaia in Spain. Other dates are also being negotiated, and we hope to announce them soon.

V: 2026年你有什么新工作要做？例如，创作和录制一些新歌？你能和大家分享一些信息吗？

What new work do you have to do in 2026? For example, creating and recording some new songs? Can you share some information with everyone?

R: 现在，我们正在重新发行Titan的第一张专辑，以庆祝其40岁生日。我们正在与前成员和前标签一起计划事情，这是一个漫长的过程，所以我们无法告诉你它确切的发布时间。与此同时，我们几乎有足够的素材来制作一张新专辑。几乎没有歌词缺失，我们必须全部排练，但我们希望我们能在2027年发布一些东西。

Right now, we are working on a reissue of the very first Titan's album to celebrate its 40's birthday. We are planning things with former members and former label and it's a long process so we can't tell you when it will be released exactly. At the same time, we almost have enought material for a new album. Few lyrics are missing and we have to rehearse it all but we hope we'll be able to release something in 2027.

As an old band, you have dedicated many classic songs to fans around the world. I will always support and follow your band. I also hope to attract more Chinese fans to follow and support your band through this interview. The interview is coming to an end. Do you have anything you want to say to Chinese fans at the end?

S: 再次感谢你的支持，伙计！想到离我们国家这么远的Metalheads可以听我们的音乐，我们真的很惊讶。我们希望他们会喜欢它，即使我们认为法语歌词可能会令人惊讶。不管怎样，我们祝愿大家一切顺利。
