Today we interviewed Azels Mountain, a Polish Pagan Black Metal band. Formed in 2013, Azels Mountain has been around for 13 years, making them a veteran and highly respected band in Poland. They have released two studio albums and one EP, all of which have received high praise, quickly establishing them as one of the most popular Pagan Black Metal bands in Poland. This year, they released their third studio album, "Echa Krwi," in which Azers Mountain continues to explore darker, more introspective territory. The band incorporates themes of memory, bloodline, sacrifice, and transcendence into their music, presenting a unique artistic vision through a more austere and grand musical expression that is both mysteriously contemplative and imbued with the shadows of modern history. Compared to their previous works, "Echa Krwi" showcases a more mature artistic vision rooted in local culture. In addition to its underground Black Metal roots, the album also draws inspiration from Polish classical music, literature, and the spiritual atmosphere that permeates the country's artistic tradition. Melancholy, longing, pride, and the lingering struggle for survival intertwine in the music, giving this album a distinct Polish character. The magazine contacted the band for an exclusive interview in celebration of the album's release!

V: 您好兄弟，很高兴认识您，非常感谢您接受本次采访。我想这是贵乐队首次接受中国杂志的采访。首先向所有中国乐迷问好。Azers Mountain乐队成立于2013年，今年是乐队成立的第十三年。当初你们是如何组建这支乐队的？

Hello brother, nice to meet you and thank you very much for participating in this interview. I think this is the first time your band has been interviewed by a Chinese magazine. First of all, I would like to say hello to all Chinese fans. Azers Mountain was founded in 2013 and this year marks the thirteenth year of your band's existence. How did you form this band in the first place?

A: 起初，乐队只是我们的一个爱好，也是我们这些对同一音乐流派充满热情的朋友们共度时光的方式。我们并没有什么具体的目标，只是想创作音乐，享受一起演奏的乐趣。

At first, the band was simply a hobby and a way for us to spend time together as friends who shared a passion for the genre. We weren't aiming for anything specific, we just wanted to make music and enjoy playing together.

V: 你们乐队的成员几乎都换了，看来只有鼓手是创始成员。创始成员为什么离开乐队？新成员是如何加入乐队的？你对新成员的表现满意吗？新成员的加入给乐队带来了什么新的变化？

Your band has changed most of its members, and it seems that only the drummer is the first generation member. Why did the first generation member leave the band? How did the new members join the band? Are you satisfied with the new member's job? Has the addition of new members brought any new changes to the band?

A: 组建乐队之初，往往纯粹是出于热情。然而，随着时间的推移，合同、截止日期、国际演出以及日益增加的责任开始接踵而至。到了某个阶段，可能会发现部分创始成员已无法再为乐队投入足够的时间和精力。值得一提的是，就我们而言，这并非一次性的阵容变动。目前的阵容是经过多年逐渐演变而成的。乐队需要时间来成熟，并找到那些真正致力于其长期愿景的人。

When you start a band, it is often driven purely by passion. However, as time goes by, contracts, deadlines, international shows, and increasing responsibilities begin to appear. At some point, it may turn out that some of the original members are no longer able to dedicate enough time and energy to the band. It is also worth mentioning that in our case, this was not a single lineup change. The current lineup evolved gradually over many years. It took time for the band to mature and find the people who were truly committed to its long-term vision.

V: 你们是一支拥有丰富创作经验的乐队。能否介绍一下你们的创作过程？我相信你们的创作经验会给更多年轻音乐人带来启发！

You are a group of musicians with rich creative experience. Can you introduce your creative process? I believe your creative experience will bring inspiration to more young musicians!

A: 每支乐队在创作歌曲时的做法都略有不同，很大程度上取决于参与其中的乐手的工作习惯。就我们而言，创作过程可以分为几个阶段。一切通常始于一个草稿。在练习乐器时，有人会即兴想出一个乐句。经过反复演奏，这个乐句开始演变，出现新的变奏，最终几个乐句融合在一起，构成了歌曲的基础。然后，我们将这些素材带到排练室，开始作为乐队共同打磨。通过头脑风暴和集体贡献，歌曲的初稿逐渐成形。经过数十次排练，这首作品逐渐演变为最终形态。一旦我们觉得一首歌已经完成，就会录制一个粗略的演示版，然后带到录音棚进行正式录制。有时整个过程非常迅速——有些歌曲在一两次排练内就能成型；而有些则可能需要六个月甚至更长时间才能完成。如果我们要给年轻音乐人一个建议，那就是把脑海中浮现的每一个想法都录下来并保存好。你永远不知道，哪个简单的即兴段落或未完成的草稿，最终可能会发展成真正特别的作品。

Every band approaches songwriting a little differently, and a lot depends on the working habits of the musicians involved. In our case, the creative process can be divided into several stages. Everything usually starts with a sketch. While practicing an instrument, someone comes up with a riff. After being played repeatedly, it begins to evolve, new variations emerge, and eventually several riffs come together to form the foundation of a song. We then bring that material into the rehearsal room and start working on it as a band. Through brainstorming and collective input, the first version of the song takes shape. After dozens of rehearsals, the composition gradually evolves toward its final form. Once we feel that a song is finished, we record a rough demo and bring it to the studio, where it is properly recorded. Sometimes this entire process is very quick—some songs come together within one or two rehearsals. Others may take six months or even longer to develop. If we could give one piece of advice to young musicians, it would be to record and save every idea that comes to mind. You never know which simple riff or unfinished sketch might eventually grow into something truly special.

V: 你们已经发行了三张专辑，每张的录音效果都非常出色。这些专辑是在哪家录音室录制的？由哪位制作人负责制作的？

You have released three albums, each with excellent recording effects. Which studio did you record the albums in? Which producer made the album for you?

A: 我们早期的专辑都是根据当时可用的资源录制的，使用自己的设备和麦克风制作出尽可能优质的音轨，然后才送去进行混音和母带处理。这些环节由Satanic Audio的Haldor负责。我们的最新专辑完全在Studio M23录制，而最终的混音和母带处理则再次委托给了Satanic Audio

Our earlier albums were recorded according to the resources we had available at the time, using our own equipment and microphones to create the best possible tracks before sending them for mixing and mastering. Those stages were handled by Haldor at Satanic Audio. Our latest album was recorded entirely at Studio M23, while the final mixing and mastering were once again entrusted to Satanic Audio

V: 你们乐队的标志设计非常漂亮。这个标志是谁设计的？你们的专辑封面设计也很精美。这些专辑封面是谁设计的？

Your band's logo design is very beautiful. Who designed this logo for you? Your album artworks are also beautifully designed. Who designed these album artworks for you?

A: 我们的标志由Christophe Szpajdel设计，他是一位比利时书法家兼杰出艺术家，以设计过数百个乐队标志而闻名，其中包括Dimmu Borgir、Emperor、Fleshgod Apocalypse、Nargaroth，甚至Metallica。对我们而言，标志必须体现966年之前我们这片土地上存在的古老信仰——那一年基督教传入波兰，许多异教传统逐渐消失或被摒弃。专辑封面由我们多年的好友兼艺术家、来自Black Metal乐队North的Krzysztof “Sirkis” Grzywacz创作。

Our logo was designed by Christophe Szpajdel, a Belgian calligrapher and exceptional artist known for creating hundreds of logos for bands such as Dimmu Borgir, Emperor, Fleshgod Apocalypse, Nargaroth, and even Metallica. For us, it was important that the logo reflected the ancient beliefs that existed in our lands before the year 966, when Christianity was introduced to Poland and many pagan traditions gradually disappeared or were pushed aside. The cover artwork was done by our longtime friend and fellow artist, Krzysztof "Sirkis" Grzywacz from the black metal band North.

How did your band collaborate with Pagan Records, Werewolf Promotion, and Hell Is Here Production to release an album? Are you satisfied with the work of these brands?

A: 我们始终致力于保持完全的创作独立性，因此通常只有在专辑接近完成时才会联系唱片公司。这种模式对我们来说非常有效。合作伙伴——尤其是Pagan Records——的支持，让我们能够专注于音乐创作，而唱片公司则凭借其在业界积累的经验，负责处理许多后勤和宣传方面的工作。这种支持弥足珍贵，因为发行专辑始终是一项重大工程，其中无数环节都需要关注和协调。

We always try to maintain complete creative independence, which is why we usually approach labels only when an album is already close to completion. This system has worked very well for us. The support of our partners—especially Pagan Records—allows us to focus on creating music while the label handles many of the logistical and promotional aspects, drawing on their experience in the industry. That kind of support is invaluable, because releasing an album is always a major undertaking with countless moving parts that need attention and coordination.

V: 斯拉夫异教、神秘主义，这些是你的音乐主题。你为什么选择这样的音乐主题？你想通过这些主题表达什么？你还创作了歌词部分。这些歌词是谁创作的？创作灵感来自哪里？

Slavic paganism, mysticism, these are your music themes. Why did you choose such music themes? What do you want to express through these 1? You also created the lyrics section. Who created these lyrics and what inspired them?

A: 与北欧神话不同，斯拉夫异教传统已大多被遗忘。这部分是因为我们的祖先留下的书面记录极少，部分是因为基督教的激进扩张，部分是因为早期斯拉夫社会高度平等。他们没有建造旨在流传数百年的宏伟纪念碑，而是专注于创建务实的社区，让每个人都有栖身之所。他们的遗产更多地保存在传统、仪式和口述历史中，而非石砌建筑里。我们相信，我们本土文化遗产的很大一部分已随时间流逝而消失，我们希望通过音乐，哪怕只是微薄之力，也能为保存祖先的记忆贡献一份力量。与此同时，我们的目标并非推广任何特定的宗教，而是探索并颂扬我们所传承的文化与历史遗产。我们的大部分歌词由Nauthiz和Ottir创作，灵感往往源自当地的仪式、民间传说、神话故事和历史事件。

Unlike Norse mythology, Slavic pagan traditions have largely been forgotten. This is partly because our ancestors left very few written records, partly because of the aggressive expansion of Christianity, and partly because early Slavic societies were highly egalitarian. Rather than building massive monuments meant to last for centuries, they focused on creating practical communities where everyone had a place to live. Their legacy was preserved more in traditions, rituals, and oral history than in stone structures. We believe that a significant part of our native cultural heritage has been lost to time, and through our music we want to contribute, even in a small way, to preserving the memory of our ancestors. At the same time, our goal is not to promote any particular religion, but rather to explore and celebrate the cultural and historical heritage from which we come. Most of our lyrics are written by Nauthiz and Ottir, and they are often inspired by local rituals, folklore, legends, and historical events.

V: 你们乐队的作品非常注重氛围营造，但在这种氛围中，依然散发着一种原始而粗犷的感觉。紧凑的Riff极具原创性，鼓手的表现非常出色，而主唱那冷峻的嗓音也是整张专辑最大的亮点。你们对自己作品有何看法？

Your band's works place great emphasis on atmosphere, but within the atmosphere, you still exude a primitive and rough feeling. The compact Riff has a strong sense of originality, the drummer's performance is very outstanding, and the singer's cold singing is also the biggest highlight of the entire album. What is your opinion on your own works?

A: 我们始终致力于确保乐队每位成员都能为音乐贡献自己的独特元素，同时在其中找到能与自己产生共鸣的部分。这种做法不仅让创作过程更加愉悦，也使作品更显真诚与真实。我们相信这种精神在专辑中得到了体现，这也是我们对最终成果感到满意的原因。与此同时，它也为我们指明了未来的发展方向，以及需要追求的新挑战。

We always try to make sure that every member of the band can contribute something of their own to the music and, at the same time, find something within it that resonates personally with them. This approach makes the creative process more enjoyable, but also more honest and authentic. We believe that this spirit is reflected in the album, which is why we are satisfied with the final result. At the same time, it has shown us a clear direction for future development and new challenges to pursue.

V: 你们乐队自2019年以来一直没有发布过新作品。2026年有计划发布新作品吗？

Your band has not released any new works since 2019. Do you have any plans to release new works in 2026?

A: 考虑到我们的工作方式，2026年发行一张完全全新的录音室专辑的可能性相当小。唯一的例外可能是现场专辑，或者或许是一支新的音乐视频。在创作方面，我们不愿给自己设定严格的截止日期。新作品会在真正准备就绪时发布。话虽如此，我们已经在创作新作品了，而且相信等待的时间会比我们前两张全长专辑之间相隔的七年要短得多。

Considering the way we work, releasing a completely new studio record in 2026 is rather unlikely. The only exception could be a live release or perhaps a new music video. We do not want to impose strict deadlines on ourselves when it comes to creativity. New music will be released when it is truly ready. That being said, we are already working on new material, and we believe the wait will be considerably shorter than the seven years between our last two full-length releases.

V: 作为一支资深乐队，你们参加过许多音乐节。哪些音乐节给你们留下了深刻印象？能否介绍一下当时的现场氛围？2026年，你们乐队计划参加哪些新的音乐节？能否和大家分享一些相关信息？

As an old band, you have participated in many music festivals. Which music festivals have left a deep impression on you? Can you introduce the live atmosphere at that time? What new music festivals are your band planning to participate in in 2026? Can you share some information with everyone?

A: 给我们留下最深刻印象的音乐节之一是由雷托和塔玛拉组织的Black Hole Fest。该音乐节的独特之处在于它高度聚焦黑金属音乐，并让观众有机会体验到广泛的文化影响——从日耳曼、斯堪的纳维亚和斯拉夫传统，甚至到美洲原住民主题。从某种意义上说，我们对观众来说也算是一道“奇观”，因为如此深度汲取斯拉夫文化遗产的乐队在那里依然相对罕见。与此同时，整个音乐节的筹办都饱含着真挚的热情，这种热情极具感染力。对我们而言，这始终是每年最重要的活动之一。一方面，它让我们有机会结识许多有趣的人；另一方面，它为音乐和视觉上都毫不妥协的演出提供了完美的环境。2026年，我们肯定会参加斯洛伐克的Gothoom露天音乐节，以及另一场目前尚不能透露的当地音乐节。此外，很可能会有几场小型演出，尽管最近我们主要专注于完成最新专辑的制作，暂未制定大规模巡演计划。

One of the festivals that left the strongest impression on us was Black Hole Fest, organized by Reto and Tamara. What makes it special is its strong focus on black metal and the opportunity it gives audiences to experience a wide range of cultural influences - from Germanic, Scandinavian, and Slavic traditions to even Native American themes. In a sense, we were a bit of a curiosity for the audience as well, as band drawing so heavily on Slavic heritage are still relatively uncommon there. At the same time, the entire festival is organized with genuine passion, and that enthusiasm is contagious.For us, it is always one of the highlights of the year. On the one hand, it offers the chance to meet many interesting people; on the other, it provides the perfect environment for the most uncompromising performances, both musically and visually. In 2026, we will definitely perform at Gothoom Open Air Fest in Slovakia, as well as at another local festival that we are not yet allowed to announce. There will most likely be several smaller shows as well, although recently we have focused primarily on completing our latest release before making extensive touring plans.

You are a classic old band, and I will always pay attention to and support your band. I also hope to attract more Chinese fans to pay attention to and support your band through this interview. The interview is coming to an end. Do you have anything you want to say to Chinese fans at the end?

A: 中国的听众对我们的音乐产生兴趣，这对我们来说既是莫大的喜悦，也是莫大的荣幸。看到地球另一端的人们在探索遥远的文化、被遗忘的历史以及地下音乐，我们由衷地感到高兴。
