今天采访到的是来自芬兰的Groove Metal乐队Northvoid，组建于2020年的Northvoid乐队由Markus和Timo再一次音乐节上认识并且组建了Northvoid，不久之后乐队的歌手Kimmo也加入了乐队，2022年贝斯手Risto加入了乐队，完成了他们的阵容并且在2022年发行了第一张EP专辑“Echoes from North”，随后乐队发行了四首单曲，受到了更多歌迷对乐队的关注，同时也吸引了来自芬兰的著名厂牌Inverse Records的关注，签约发行了他们的最新EP专辑“Ember Remains”，在新专辑发行之际杂志通过Inverse Records与乐队取得俩系进行了一次专访！

Today's interview is with Finland's groove metal band Northvoid. Formed in 2020, Northvoid was formed by Markus and Timo after meeting at a festival, soon joined by singer Kimmo, and in 2022 bassist Risto joined the band, completing the lineup and releasing their first EP “Echoes from North” in 2022. V: 你好兄弟很高兴见到你，非常感谢你参加这次访谈。我想这是你们乐队第一次接受中国杂志的采访。首先向所有的中国歌迷和朋友们问好。Northvoid乐队成立于2020年。是一支非常年轻的乐队。是谁提议组建这支乐队的？

Hello, brother. Nice to meet you and thank you very much for participating in this interview. I

think this is the first time for your band to be interviewed by China magazine. First of all, I would like to say hello to all China fans and friends. The Northvoid band was founded in 2020. It is a very young band. Who proposed to form this band?

N: 介绍一下背景；我们在十几岁时曾以不同的组合一起玩过。在2019年我们与一支老乐队（Markus、Timo 和 Kimmo）重新组合并在我们朋友的一个私人音乐节和另一个私人活动中演出。在2020年1月，Timo打电话给Markus提出了一个问题：“我们是否应该组建一支新的乐队？”一切由此开始。

A bit of background; we’ve played together in different combinations in our teens. In 2019 we re-grouped with an old band (Markus, Timo and Kimmo) and we played in a private “festival” of our friends and one other private event. We planned initially to continue under the old name, but in January 2020 a call was placed by Timo to Markus with a question “Should we form a new band?”, and there it all started.

V: 你们乐队在2022年加入了一位新的贝斯手。新贝斯手是如何加入乐队的？你对新成员的工作满意吗？

Your band joined a new bass player in 2022. How did the new bass player join the band? Are you satisfied with the work of the new members?

N: 之前的贝斯手不得不退出，因为他无法抽出所需的时间为Northvoid演奏。Risto是我们的一位老朋友，早些时候他和Timo一起玩，我们想谁会比他更合适，幸运的是一切都安排得最好！

Previous bass player had to step out due to just not being able to take time needed for Northvoid. Risto is an old friend of ours and was playing with Timo earlier and we thought who would be a better candidate than him and luckily all worked out to the best!

V: 能否介绍一下你们乐队的创作过程？

Can you introduce the creative process of your band?

We don’t really live too close with each other and usually we start building songs remotely. Usually it starts with a riff that starts to evolve gathering riffs around it. Initial structure is created by guitarist (Markus) and shared to others. Then the drummer (Timo) starts to build the drums around the initial song structure. Bass lines start to come to life at the same time by bassist (Risto). Lyrics are mostly written by Timo and he usually presents his idea of how verses/choruses etc. would be laid out. This is usually the point when things start to change, a common thing that Markus says is “do not get fixed by the structure, I’ll tear it down anyways”. Usually at the first practice with next evolution we get vocal ideas from Kimmo that will once again restructure the song. For us this has been quite an interesting way to write songs; we don’t get finished songs from one person but ideas keep on layering on top of previous and so on.

The recording effect of your band is excellent. In which studio did you record the album? Who produced the album for you? You will release a new EP album this year. Is the recording process of the new album going smoothly?

N: 这是我们自己录制的第一张EP，我们的所有专辑都是自己制作的。鼓由Timo和Markus录制。吉他和贝斯都是在家里单独录制的。这张EP的人声是在我们的“排练小屋"录制的。我们已经录制了歌曲的样带，大部分内容已经基本确定。当然在录制过程中也做了一些改动）整张EP已经完成，整个过程非常顺利。录制好的曲目被送到了我们信任的混音工程师Heikki Marttila的工作室。从第一张EP开始，Heikki已经为我们的所有作品混音。

This is the first EP where we recorded everything by ourselves. We have also produced all of our releases by ourselves. Drums were recorded by Timo and Markus. Guitars and bass are recorded individually at home. Vocals for this EP were recorded in our “rehearsal cabin” where Markus and Kimmo gathered for a weekend. We had done demo recordings for songs and most of the things were pretty much settled. Some changes were done while recording of course :) Whole EP is already finished and the whole process was really smooth this time. Recorded tracks were sent to our trusted mix engineer Heikki Marttila at Guru Studio Joensuu Finland. Heikki has mixed all of our releases from the first EP onwards.

The logo of your band is beautifully designed and very simple, but this design form is a design form that I personally like very much, because I can easily remember your names. Who designed this logo for you? Your album artwork is also beautifully designed. Who designed these artworks for you?

N: Logo是Kimmo设计的。艺术品由乐队设计，最后的插图由Markus完成。EP封面图片实际上是在我们的鼓手的夏日小屋的壁炉上。最后一首歌“The Ember”的名字我们当时就定好了。我们开始考虑EP的名字，而“微光”这个概念就成了我们今天看到的封面。

Logo was designed by Kimmo. Artwork is designed by the band and final illustration is done by Markus. The EP cover picture is actually taken from the fireplace at our drummer's summer cottage. We had the name of the last song “The Ember” pretty much set that the time and we started to think of the name for the EP and that was formed from the last song and the idea of fading ember came out as the cover as we can see today.

V: 你们的音乐主题是什么？为什么选择这样一个音乐主题？你想通过这样一个音乐主题表达什么？歌词是谁写的？他的灵感来源是什么？

What is your music theme about? Why do you choose such a music theme? What do you want to express through such a music theme? Did you write the lyrics? Who wrote these lyrics? What was his inspiration?

N: Timo是我们歌词的策划人。歌词在很大程度上受偏远地区、荒野的氛围。歌词通常并不表达确切的事情，而是试图描绘一种虚无的景色、想象中的情感和心境。

Timo is the mastermind behind our lyrics. Lyrics influence heavily on the atmosphere of remote areas, wilderness. Lyrics aren't usually expressing exact matters but are trying to paint a sort of a void scenery, imaginary of feelings, state of mind.

V: 你们与Inverse Records唱片公司合作发行了一张新的EP专辑。Inverse Records是贵国的一个优秀品牌。你们是如何与这个品牌取得联系并进行合作的？你对这个品牌的工作满意吗？

You have released a new EP album in cooperation with Inverse Records, which is an excellent brand in your country. How did you get in touch with this brand to cooperate? Are you satisfied with the work of this brand?

N: 我们之前通过与Inverse Records合作的朋友听说过他们。这次我们决定联系他们。我们也是芬兰金属社区“Bloodstained Metal”的成员，那里也有与Inverse合作的乐队。合作刚刚开始，目前进展顺利:)

We had heard of Inverse Records earlier through friends who have been working with them and this time we decided to contact them. We are also part of Finnish metal community “Bloodstained Metal” and there are also bands working together with Inverse. Cooperation just started and it’s been smooth sailing so far :)

V: 首先祝贺贵乐队即将发行最新EP专辑 "Ember Remains”. 目前我已经听到了这张专辑的试听曲目。这是一张非常棒的作品，快速和连续的Riff，非常令人愉快。此外你们的编曲也非常精致，包含了一些很高的技术含量。鼓手更精彩的表现给我留下了深刻的印象、歌手深沉有力的演唱也非常精彩。你对自己的作品有什么看法？新专辑与旧专辑相比有什么变化吗？

First of all, congratulations on your band's upcoming release of the latest EP album "Ember Remains". At present, I have heard the audition tracks of this album. It is a wonderful work, fast and continuous Riff, which is very enjoyable. Besides, your arrangement is very exquisite and contains some high technologies. I was deeply impressed by the drummer's more wonderful, fast and accurate performance, and the singer's deep and powerful singing is also very wonderful. What do you think of your work? Is there any change between the new album and the old one?

N: 谢谢大家的称赞，我们真的很感激！！这次我们在编曲上花了更多时间，删掉了一些歌曲中重复的部分，比如“Wilderess”我们曾与一位制作人讨论过合作事宜，但最终没有成行。但我们从他那里得到了一些非常好的建议，这些建议对声乐表现非常有帮助。

Thanks for all the praises, we really appreciate them!!! This time we took more time on arranging songs, we cut down quite a lot of repetitive parts from few songs, e.g. Wilderess. We were discussing with one producer in terms of cooperation, that didn’t come to happen after all, but we got some really good tips from him and those really helped with vocal performance.

V: 你们乐队参加过哪些现场表演？哪些现场表演给你们留下了深刻的？能否谈谈当时的气氛？2025 年您还将受邀参加哪些现场表演？

What live performances did your band take part in? What live performances left a deep impression on you? Can you tell us about the atmosphere at that time? What other live performances will you be invited to attend in 2025?

N: 我们的现场表演并不多，因为Covid导致了很多小型演出场所的问题，人们也不像以前那样经常来参加活动了。最难忘的一次演出是我们在北卡累利阿最大的俱乐部约恩苏的Kerubi演出。当时我们刚刚起步，这对我们来说意义非凡！现在我们只同意在EP发行时举办一场演出。

We haven’t been playing live too much, covid caused lots of issues with smaller venues and people aren’t coming to events as much as earlier. One of the most memorable shows was when we got to play in Kerubi, the biggest club in North Karelia, Joensuu. We had pretty much just started and that was something for us! For now we have just agreed on one show at the time of EP release.

V: 虽然你们是一支非常年轻的乐队，但却是一支非常有前途的乐队。我会一直支持和关注你们的乐队。我也希望通过这次采访能有更多的中国乐迷关注和支持你们的乐队。最后你有什么话要对中国歌迷说吗？

Although you are a very young band, it is a very promising band. I will always support and pay attention to your band. I also hope that more China fans will pay attention to and support your band through this interview. Do you have anything to say to China fans at the end？
