污染 - 法国Death / Thrash Metal乐队Corrosive Elements专访

今天采访到的是来自法国的Death / Thrash Metal乐队Corrosive Elements，2005年歌手Emilie和鼓手Rachid组建了这支乐队，最初乐队演奏的是Old School Death Metal风格，不久之后吉他手Yves加入乐队，新成员加入乐队之后同时也为乐队带来了新的创作灵感，乐队在Old School Death Metal的基础上加入了Thrash Metal元素，还有一些Hard Rock，Groove，Hardcore Punk等乐队的影响，2007 - 2010年新歌手Brice，吉他手Tarik，贝斯手Thomas加入乐队，为乐队带来了新的活力，2015年的第一张正式专辑“Toxic Waste Blues”发行之后，吸引了法国歌迷和乐评人的关注，好评，一张经典的Death / Thrash Metal作品诞生了，Groove的元素加入也让这支乐队的作品更加的具有观赏性和活力，这张专辑发行之后，Corrosive Elements乐队也成为了法国音乐节的宠儿，2016年乐队发行了现场录音专辑“Burn Them Alive”之后再无任何新作品发布，2024年乐队携带着他们的最新专辑“Cut the Serpent's Head”回归，在新专辑发行之际杂志为Corrosive Elements乐队进行了一次专访！

Today, I interviewed the Death/Thrash Metal band Corrosive Elements from France. In 2005, singer Emilie and drummer Rachid formed this band. At first, the band played the Old School Death Metal style, and soon guitarist Yves joined the band. After the new members joined the band, they also brought new creative inspiration to the band. The band added Thrash Metal elements on the basis of Old School Death Metal, and some bands such as Hard Rock, Groove and Hardcore Punk influenced it. From 2007 to 2010, the new singer Brice and guitarist Tarik, Bass player Thomas joined the band, bringing new vitality to the band. After the release of the first official album "Toxic Waste Blues" in 2015, it attracted the attention of French fans and music critics, and a classic Death/Thrash Metal work was born. The addition of Groove elements also made the band's work more ornamental and energetic. After the release of this album, the band Corrosive Elements also became the darling of the French Music Festival. After the band released the live recording album "Burn Them Alive" in 2016, no new works were released. In 2024, the band returned with their latest album "Cut the Serpent's Head", and the magazine conducted an exclusive interview for the band Corrosive Elements on the occasion of the release of the new album!

V: 你好Rachid很高兴见到你，非常感谢你参加这次采访，我想这是你们第一次接受中国杂志的采访，首先向中国粉丝问好，你是乐队的创始成员，你最初是如何组建乐队的？

Hello Rachid it's nice to meet you and thank you very much for participating in this interview, I think this is the first time you guys have been interviewed by a Chinese magazine, first of all say hello to the Chinese fans, you are the founding member of the band, how did you form the band in the first place?

R: 你好，谢谢你给我机会和对Corrosive Elements的兴趣。它抯这是我们第一次出现在中文杂志上抯这是我们的荣幸，我们向我们的新中国朋友致敬！Corrosive Elements乐队创建于2005年5月，出于演奏Old School Death Metal风格的音乐的需要。这是最初的主要目标，我和我们的第一位歌手Emilie很快就组成了第一阵容。2-3个月后我们需要第二个吉他手，我很幸运地在一些网站上找到了Yves。从那时起我们的阵容发生了一些变化，但我们对自己想要的打法有了清晰的认识。因此Thrash方面很快就出现了，随后是一些来自Hardcore Punk，Groove，Hard Rock乐队的音乐影响。自2010年以来Brice一直负责人声。

Hello and thanks for the opportunity and interest for Corrosive Elements. It the first time that we are featured in a Chinese magazine and it really an honour for us, and we salute our new Chinese friends! Corrosive Elements was created in May 2005, out of necessity to play a music grounded in the old school death metal style. That was the main objective at first, and a first line-up was quickly gathered around me and our first singer, Emilie. After 2-3 months, we needed a second guitar player and I was lucky to find Yves after an add that I put in some websites. From then on, we had some line-up changes but we managed to have a clear vision of the style that we wanted to play. Hence the Thrash aspect that came quickly, followed by some other influences from Hardcore Punk and some groove from Hard Rock bands. Brice is taking care of the vocals since 2010.

V: 现在乐队只剩下你和Yves这两个第一代成员，其他成员都被换掉了，为什么第一代成员要退出乐队？新成员是怎么加入乐队的？你对新成员满意吗？

Now that you and Yves are the only first-generation members left in the band, and all the other members have been replaced, why did the first-generation members quit the band? How did the new members join the band? Are you happy with the new members?

R: 在乐队的生活中，总有阵容崩溃的时候，就像每段感情一样，人们会改变，寻找生活中的其他兴趣或者想演奏其他风格的音乐等等？这就是为什么成员离开乐队，但我们很幸运，总是有音乐家准备参与乐队的生活。我们主要通过地下场景招募成员，我们的阵容2015年开始就没有改变过，目前为止最扎实稳定。Brice: 歌手，Yves: 吉他，Tarik: 吉他，Thomas: 贝斯和Rachid: 鼓手。

In the life of a band, there are moments where the line-up shatters, as with every relationship, people change and seek other interests in life or wanting to play other styles of music etc? That why members left the band but we were lucky to always have musicians ready to take part in the life of the band. We mainly recruited the members through the underground scene, our line-up hasn changed since 2015, and is the most solid and stable so far. Brice: Vocals, Yves: Guitar, Tarik: Guitar, Thomas: Bass and Rachid: Drums.

V: 你们乐队的每个成员都是创作极端金属的经验丰富的音乐家，能描述一下你们的创作过程吗？新专辑的写作过程如何？

Each member of your band is an experienced musician in creating extreme metal, can you describe your creative process? How did the writing process for the new album go?

R: “For the the serpent‘s head”？在我们的新专辑中我们用一种老式的方式创作了这些歌曲: 5个人在一个排练室里，作为一个集体，一起构思和创作一首又一首歌曲。我们想坚持我们的风格，但要让它更有效、更直截了当。我们分享我们的想法，一起写所有的东西，计划每一个细节来实现我们的愿景。

"For the the serpent‘s head" ? our new album, we created the songs in an old school fashion: 5 guys in a rehearsal room, bouncing off ideas and crafting song after song as a collective unit. We wanted to stick to our style but make it more efficient and straight to the point. We shared our ideas and wrote everything together, planning every detail to fulfil our vision.

V: 你的专辑在录音方面令人印象深刻，你们都是在哪个录音室录制的专辑？哪位制作人制作了你的专辑？新专辑的录制过程顺利吗？

Your albums are very impressive in terms of recording, what studio did you all record your albums in? Which producer produced your album? Is the recording process for the new album going well?

R: 那会是一个很长的答案！我们总是自己制作我们的唱片并且试着自己录制大部分的乐器，我们有知识和经验去做。我们的第一张专辑，“Toxic Waste Blue”我们在一个朋友家的录音室录制了鼓并在我们自己的录音室录制了所有其他的东西。我们以前的贝斯手 Lionel负责混音，我们有幸请到了Dan Swan履行控制职责。对于新专辑我们使用了同样的方法，在一个下降工作室录制鼓，然后在我们自己的工作室录制其他一切。这次我们把混音交给了Raphael Henry ，他巧妙的混音方法改变了我们的游戏规则。获得有力而清晰的有机声音。我们与来自Drudenhaus工作室的Benoit Roux合作制作母带，他也是理解我们项目的专业人士。

That going to be a long answer! We always self-produce our records, and try to record most of the instruments by ourselves, we have the knowledge and experience to do it. For our first album, “Toxic Waste Blues” we recorded the drums at a friend home studio, and tracked everything else in our own studio. Our former bass player, Lionel, did the mixing and we had the honour to have Dan Swan?performing the mastering duties. For the new album, we used the same approach, recorded the drums in a descent studio, then recorded everything else in our own studio. This time we handed the mixing to Raphael Henry whose clever approach to mixing was a game changer for us. Achieving a punchy and clear organic sound. We worked with Benoit Roux from Drudenhaus Studio for the mastering, again a great professional who understood our project.

V: 你的logo是我见过的最特别的logo之一，是谁为你设计的这个logo？你的专辑插图也很美，尤其是2024年新专辑的插图，是谁为你设计的这些艺术品？

Your logo is one of the most unusual I've ever seen, who designed this logo for you? Your album artwork is also beautiful, especially the artwork for the new album coming out in 2024, who designed that for you?

R: 第一个logo标志是由Emilie(前歌手)和我以DIY的方式设计的。这是为了强调乐队的风格。自2021年以来我们有了一个由乐队的密友Audrey Veilly创作的新logo，他为这个logo带来了一个更现代和更大的身份。至于“Cut the Serpent's Head”的封面艺术？我们选择与另一位女性艺术家Anan Chareyre-Man合作，她在电影行业工作，她的才华在艺术作品中熠熠生辉。

The first logo was designed by Emilie (former singer) and me, in a DIY manner. It was created to emphasise the style of the band. Since 2021 we have a new logo created by Audrey Veilly, a close friend of the band, who came with a more modern and massive identity for the logo.

As for the cover art “Cut the Serpent's Head” we chose to work with another female artist, Anan Chareyre-Man, who works in the film industry and whose talent shines through the artwork.

V: 社会、环境、爱情是你音乐的一些主题，你为什么选择它们？你想通过这些主题表达什么？你们还创作了歌词部分，这些歌词都是谁创作的，他的灵感来自于什么？

Society, Environment, Lovecraft are some of the themes of your music, why did you choose them? What do you want to express through these themes? You also wrote the lyrics, who wrote the lyrics and what inspired them?

Since the beginning, we wanted to have some social commentary as a theme for our lyrics, it was important for us to forward our way of thinking and our mentality and moral values, also, we wanted to avoid satanic or gore imagery that are more common in death metal. We are concerned about the state of our world, the rise of racism and hatred in general, our wrecked environment and we are against the hegemony of organised religion and crooked politics, two cancers that stop the individuals from achieving peace of mind and freedom of speech. We want to support the poor and voiceless people, who suffer from the inequalities of our societies. We used some writing of H.P. Lovecraft on our first album as we love his works, but it strayed a bit from our usual lyrical themes, hence we did not use that theme again.

V: 你的新专辑在Crypt of Dr. Gore发行，同时也将在你的老合作伙伴GreyveStorm Productions上发行，你是如何与两家唱片公司联系合作的？你对两家唱片公司的工作都满意吗？

Your new album is out on Crypt of Dr. Gore and it's also due to be released on your old collaborator GreyveStorm Productions, how did you get in touch with both labels to collaborate? Are you happy with the work of both labels?

Our new album which will be out on November 29th, will be released through a three-label collaboration. GreyveStorm Productions is our own label on which we released most of our stuff. We tried to contact a lot of labels for this new record but it didn receive much feedback or the offers were not on par with what we tried to achieve. As we decided to release it on GreyveStorm, we had a proposition from Crypt of Dr. Gore which is an underground Label/Fanzine who we knew since a few years. The guys had the perfect attitude and vision to help us spread the new music, so it was a no brainer for us to work in conjunction with them. The third label called Chien Noir Productions helped us for the vinyl format which will be available in December. All in all, we are proud to work with such passionate and talented people.

V: 你们的创作速度非常慢，2008年发布了第一张EP专辑，2015年发布了第一张正式专辑，2016年发布了现场专辑后，直到今年才选择发布第二张正式专辑，是什么让你发布专辑如此缓慢？

You guys have been very slow to create, you only released your first EP album in 2008, your first official album was not released until 2015, and after releasing a live album in 2016 you didn't choose to release a second official album until this year, what is it about releasing albums that has made you so slow?

Well, we must admit that we are not keen on releasing records with the band very often because we tend to take the time to craft the songs as a unit with a democratic process. We try to write in the rehearsal room as an old school band and that takes a lot of time?Bear in mind that we me not professional musicians, we all have main careers, families, etc? Also, we are involved in other bands and labels and for example between Toxic Waste Blues (2015) and Cut the Serpent's Head (2024) we have released 4 records with our other bands (Conviction,Chaos E.T. Sexual, Moonskin and Swamp Terror) plus hundreds of live shows!

V: 首先祝贺你今年发行了第二张正式专辑“Cut the Serpent's Head”，你是一个经典乐队，凶猛尖锐的重复Riff，令人难忘的旋律，你的鼓是专辑中最精彩的部分，歌手的人声低沉有力，这增加了你的作品的凶性。狠毒，你对自己的作品有什么看法吗？

Firstly, congratulations on the release of your second official album “Cut the Serpent's Head” this year, you're a classic band, with ferocious sharp riffs, unforgettable melodies, your drums are the best part of the album, and the singer's vocals are low and powerful, which adds to the ferociousness of your compositions. Venomous, do you have any thoughts on your work?

R: 对你的工作很难有一个客观的观点，我能说的是我为乐队留下的遗产感到骄傲，现场表演，唱片，我不后悔任何事，希望在未来和乐队一起创作更多的音乐。我确信我们有自己的风格，我们的身份，我们设法创造一些有趣的东西，至少对这种类型的粉丝来说！

It always hard to have an objective point of view on your work, what I can say is that I proud of the legacy made by the band, the live shows, the records, I don't regret anything and hope to make more music in the future with the band. I sure that we have our own style, our identity and we manage to create something interesting, at least for the fans of the genre!

V: 你们乐队参加过哪些音乐节，哪些给你留下了深刻的印象，你能描述一下气氛吗，你计划在2025年参加那些音乐节？

Your band has played a few festivals, which ones impressed you and can you describe the atmosphere and which festivals you are planning to play in 2025?

R: 我们最大的表演是在2016年Hellfest，我们在祭坛现场表演，这是一个献给Death Metal的舞台。对我们来说这是最大和最疯狂的时刻，因为我们必须站出来，走出我们的舒适区，更有准备，更专业，同时享受乐趣！这是一次很棒的经历，帮助我们参加越来越多的知名节目和节日。这也让我们意识到，我们希望与较小的场地和乐队保持联系，因为我们来自地下的本地场景，我们必须向那个场景支付我们的会费，这意味着我们不怕缩小我们的现场表演，以适应地下俱乐部等。

Our biggest show was at the 2016 Hellfest edition, where we played on the Altar scene, a stage dedicated to Death Metal. It was the biggest and craziest of times for us, as we had to step-up and get out of our comfort zone, be more prepared, more professional, and having fun at the same time! It was a great experience that helped us get on more and more renown shows and festivals. It made us also realize that we wanted to stay in touch with smaller venues and bands because we come from the underground local scene and we had to pay our dues to that scene, meaning that we are not afraid to downsize our live show to make it fit for an underground club for example.

V: 你刚刚发布了2024年的新专辑，我认为你也应该结束2024年，那么你们在2025年你们乐队还有哪些新的工作要进行？你可以向大家透露一些信息吗？

You just released a new album in 2024, and I think you should end 2024, so what new work do you have for your band in 2025? Can you tell us some information?

R: “Cut the Serpent's Head”很快就要发布了，明年我们会大力宣传，我们已经预定了一些节目，我们正在寻找更多在其他国家演出的机会。还有明年是我们的20周年纪念，所以我们要庆祝一下，也许会有一场特别的演出或一张特别的唱片。天空才是极限！

“Cut the Serpent's Head”will soon be released, and we will promote it heavily next year, we have some shows already booked, and we are looking for more opportunities to play in other countries. Also, next year will be our 20th anniversary, so we l have to celebrate that, maybe a special show or a special recording. The sky is the limit!

V: Corrosive Elements是一个经典和非常好的老乐队，我会永远支持，关注你的乐队，我希望通过这次采访更多的中国粉丝会关注，支持你的乐队，你最后有什么想对你的中国粉丝说的吗？

Corrosive Elements is a classic and very good old band, I will always support and follow your band, and I hope that through this interview more Chinese fans will follow and support your band, do you have anything you want to say to your Chinese fans in the end?
