今天采访到的是来自意大利的Metalcore / Death / Groove Metal乐队Straight to Pain，在组建Straight to Pain乐队之前，由于Chaos Tage乐队解散，Simone和Stefano依旧想继续音乐生涯，于是招募了埃米利亚诺和尼科洛组建了Straight to Pain乐队，也由Hardcore Punk转型成为了一支Metalcore风格的乐队，在组建四年之后乐队发行了第一张正式专辑“Horizon Calls”，这张专辑发行之后获得了很好成绩，2019年发行的第二张正式专辑“Cycles”更是让这支乐队成为目前意大利炙手可热的乐队之一，同时也成为各大重要音乐节的邀请对象，今年乐队刚刚发布了三首新的单曲，在新作品发行之际，杂志与乐队取得联系进行了一次专访！

Today we're interviewing Straight to Pain, an Italian metalcore/death/groove metal band. Before forming Straight to Pain, following the breakup of Chaos Tage, Simone and Stefano remained committed to pursuing their musical journey. They recruited Emiliano and Niccolò to form Straight to Pain, transitioning from a Hardcore Punk sound to a Metalcore style. Four years after their formation, the band released their debut full-length album “Horizon Calls,” which achieved significant success. Their second full-length album, “Cycles,” released in 2019, cemented their status as one of Italy's hottest bands, earning invitations to major music festivals. This year, the band released three new singles. To mark this new release, the magazine connected with the band for an exclusive interview!

V: 你好兄弟，很高兴见到你，非常感谢你参与本次访谈。我想这是贵乐队首次接受中文杂志的采访。Straight to Pain乐队成立于2009年，是支历史悠久的乐队。请问最初是如何组建这支乐队的？

Hello brother, it's nice to meet you and thank you very much for participating in this interview. I think this is the first time your band has been interviewed by a Chinese magazine. Straight to Pain was founded in 2009 and is a long-standing band. How did you first form this band?

S: 你好！是的，这是首次，我们深感荣幸！乐队源于前身乐队Chaos Tage的重组，鼓手Stefano和主唱Simone当时已在Chaos Tage共事，彼此相识多年。当他们决定从Hardcore Punk转型为Metalcore风格时，招募了Emiliano和Nicolò，由此组建了Straight to Pain的最初阵容！

Hello! Yes, it is the first time, and we're honoured! Well, the band rose from the ashes of a previous band, Chaos Tage, where Stefano (drummer) and Simone (vocalist) first played together. They had already known each other for a while at the time. When they decided to move from hardcore punk to metalcore, they recruited Emiliano and Nicolò and formed Straight To Pain's first lineup!

V: 你们乐队目前仅保留鼓手和主唱作为初代成员，其余成员均已更换。初代成员为何离开乐队？新成员又是如何加入的？你对新成员的表现满意吗？

Your band currently only has the drummer and singer as the first generation members, and all other members have been replaced. Why did the first generation members leave the band? How did the new members join the band? Are you satisfied with the new member's job?

S: 最简单的答案是他们选择了不同的人生道路。所有前STP成员离开是因为他们彻底停止了演奏，他们并不真正喜欢在抱有雄心壮志的乐队中演奏的经历，于是决定退出。至于新成员：当时我们在寻找新贝斯手时，通过一位共同朋友认识了Marco。她牵线搭桥让我们见面，彼此一见如故。当Nicolò离开乐队后，我们让Marco转任吉他手，随后又招募了Andrea（同样通过共同朋友介绍）和Thomas（Simone的表弟）。从"Cycles"专辑开始，Marco和Thomas对塑造STP的新音色起到了关键作用，因为他们创作了大部分音乐；可以说，没有他们，现在的乐队会完全不同。

The simplest answer is that they chose a different path in life. All former STP members left because they stopped playing altogether, they didn't really like the experience of playing in a band with serious ambitions and decided to stop. As for the new members: we met Marco through a common acquaintance at the time when we were looking for a new bass player. She put us in contact, we met, and we liked each other immediately. When Nicolò left the band, we moved Marco over to guitar duties, and later on we recruited Andrea (again, through a common acquaintance) and Thomas (who is Simone's cousin). Marco and Thomas have been instrumental in shaping the new sound of STP from Cycles onwards, as they're the ones who compose most of the music; it's fair to say that without them we'd be a completely different band, now.

V: 你们乐队的每位成员都是拥有丰富创作经验的音乐人。能否谈谈你们的创作历程？相信你们的创作经历会为更多年轻音乐人带来启发。

Each member of your band is a musician with rich creative experience. Can you introduce your creative experience? I believe your creative experience will bring inspiration to more young musicians.

S: Stefano曾效力于Alt-Rock乐队“The Sunburts”，目前参与多个面向儿童及残障人士的教育项目。Simone从事演唱与作词工作近二十年，同时经营个人陷阱音乐项目并担任多位本地歌手的极端声乐教练。Marco在现场音乐项目“Lost Symphony Orchestra”中演奏了约十年，该乐队翻唱西伯利亚交响乐团的曲目。自2015年起，他与当地歌手兼演员展开合作，为数部戏剧提供现场配乐并共同组建了致敬意大利唱作人的翻唱乐队；此外他还与当地剧团合作并持续创作个人作品。Thomas是乐队中唯一没有其他乐队经历的成员。

Well, Stefano played in an alt-rock band, The Sunburts, and currenltly plays in a number of educational projects with children and disabled people. Simone has been singing and writing lyrics for close to years 20 now, he has a parallel solo trap project and is an extreme vocal coach for a number of local singers. Marco has played for something like 10 years in a live musical project, Lost Symphony Orchestra, which covered music from Trans-Siberian Orchestra, and since 2015 he carries on a parallel activity in collaboration with a local singer-actor, for whom he provided live music for a few theatre plays and with whom he formed a cover band that tributes Italian singer-songwriters; besides that he's also collaborated with a local theatre company and he's writing and producing his own solo work. Thomas is the only one of us who has no other band experience.

V: 你们乐队的每张专辑都有出色的录音效果。是在哪家录音室完成录制的？由哪位制作人操刀制作？最新单曲的录制过程顺利吗？

Every album of your band has outstanding recording effects. Which studio did you record the album in? Which producer made the album for you? Did the recording process of your latest single go smoothly?

S: 自2019年起，我们便与热那亚Blackwave Studio的Fabio Palombi合作。这位才华横溢且专业的制作人总能精准把握我们的创作意图，并通过宝贵建议提升音乐品质。与他合作对我们而言是品质的保证。

Since 2019 we've been working with Fabio Palombi of Blackwave Studio in Genoa, an incredibly talented and professional producer who always managed to understand what we wanted and to better our music with his precious input. Working with him is a guarantee for us.

V: 你们音乐的主题是什么？为何选择这个音乐主题，又想通过它表达什么？你们还创作了歌词部分，这些歌词由谁创作，灵感源自何处？

What is the theme of your music about? Why did you choose this music theme, and what do you want to express through this music theme? You also created the lyrics section. Who created these lyrics and what inspired them?

S: 多年来我们探讨过多种主题，主要遵循Simone创作歌词时的兴趣。他从阅读的书籍和热衷的现实议题中汲取灵感。近期More也参与部分歌词创作，将自身情感经历与信念融入其中，为Simone的主题提供互补视角。例如“Earthless”探讨生态破坏、战争或熵增引发的精神与物质双重末日；而"Cycles"与"Closing Cycles"则描绘人类与神秘强大“异界存在”的关系——这个既可能是造物主、终极救赎者，也可能是毁灭者的存在，让我们既怀希望又心怀恐惧。在最新作品中，我们探讨了对现代世界的怀旧与敌意，以及渴望回归能获得安全感与接纳之地，从而开辟全新道路的愿望。

We've covered a variety of themes throughout the years, mainly following Simone's interests as he writes his own lyrics. He finds inspiration in the books he reads and the real-world themes that he's passionate about. More recently Marco also writes some of the lyrics, bringing in his own emotional experiences and beliefs as a complementary point of view to Simone's themes. For example, "Earthless" was about the spiritual and physical end of the world brought about by ecological destruction, war or enthropy, while "Cycles" and "Closing Cycles" talked about the relationship between humanity and a mysterious, powerful "other from beyond" that may or may not bring about our creation, our supreme bettermen, or our destruction, someone that we look at to with both hope and fear. For our newest songs we've been dealing with themes of nostalgia and hostility towards the modern world as well as a desire to return to a place where we can feel safe and accepted and from where we can forge a new, different path forward.

V: 你们是如何与Hellbones唱片公司和MYO Agency建立联系并合作发行专辑的？对这两家厂牌作是否满意？

How did you establish contact and collaborate with Hellbones Records and MYO Agency for the release of your album? Are you satisfied with the work of these two brands?

S: 乐队“商业事务”由Simone负责，因此是他主动联系并促成合作。这两家独立厂牌规模虽小，自然不具备传统唱片公司那样的资金实力和行业影响力，但其成员都是充满热忱的音乐人，他们深刻理解我们的需求和乐队运作模式，在全力协助的同时给予我们必要的创作自由。目前我们正与The Triad Records（可视为Hellbones Records的“继承者”）及GlobMetal Promotions合作，共同推广最新单曲！

It's Simone who handles the "business side" of the band, so he's the one who found them and contacted them. They're both small indipendent labels who of course don't have the kind of money or influence that one would expect from traditional labels, but they're made of passionate individuals who understood our needs and the way we like to operate as a band; they gave us all the help they could while leaving us the freedom that we need. Now we're collaborating with The Triad Records, a sort of "successor" to Hellbones Records, and with GlobMetal Promotions, for the promotion of our latest singles!

V: 你们乐队的Logo非常精美。是谁为你们设计的这个Logo？你们的专辑封面设计也相当出色。这些专辑封面是谁设计的？

Your band's logo design is very beautiful. Who designed this logo for you? Your album artworks are also beautifully designed. Who designed these album artworks for you?

S: 感谢你的评价！2015年为"Earthless"创作封面时，我们邀请了意大利漫画家Sara Antonellini，她将Stefano和Simone的设计构思付诸实践。2018年至今，所有视觉设计均由Stefano和Thomas负责，二人均具备丰富的艺术创作经验。现行标志由Stefano为"Cycles"专辑设计，近期经Thomas重新打磨，使其更显流畅现代。乐队其他成员偶尔会提供创意建议，但视觉设计工作主要由他们二人主导。

Thank you, we appreciate your words! In 2015, for "Earthless", we hired Italian comic book artist Sara Antonellini for the cover art, who worked on design ideas that Stefano and Simone had. From 2018 to now, all of our artwork has been handled by Stefano and Thomas, who both have quite some experience as artists. The current logo was designed by Stefano for "Cycles", and recently reworked by Thomas to make it smoother and more modern. The rest of the band occasionally chimes in with ideas or input, but it's those two who handle that side of the band.

V: 2019年之后，你们的乐队直到2023年才发布新作品。这四年间乐队经历了什么？

After 2019, your band did not release any new works until 2023. What did the band experience during these four years?

S: 正如你们所料，新冠疫情对我们造成了巨大冲击。Andrea离开了乐队，"Cycles"的所有宣传工作付诸东流，意大利整个地下音乐场景几乎被彻底摧毁。这几年我们创作了大量音乐，探索新理念，试图在与"Cycles"时期截然不同的世界中重新找到乐队方向。个人生活也经历了剧变，导致创作延迟、优先级改变。你绝对想不到我们积攒了多少未公开的素材！尽管如此，我认为我们从那段时期走出来后，彼此间的化学反应焕然一新，更获得了前所未有的创作自由！

As you may imagine, the Covid pandemic took quite a toll on us. Andrea quit the band, all the promotional stuff for "Cycles" went down the drain, the whole underground music scene in Italy basically burned to the ground. During those years, we wrote A LOT of music, exploring new ideas and trying to find our way again as a band in a world that changed completely compared to when we produced "Cycles". Our personal lives went through quite some turmoil and changes during those years, so that meant that our work was delayed, our priorities changed. You'd be surprised by how much material we have from those years that hasn't been released yet! Still, I think we came out of that period with a renewed chemistry between us and a sense of songwriting freedom that we didn't have before!

V: 首先恭喜乐队刚刚发布新单曲。你们的音乐兼具金属的躁动、死亡金属的凶猛与律动金属的节奏感，这让你们在众多乐队中独树一帜。你们如何评价自己的作品？

First of all, congratulations to your band for just releasing their latest single. Your work is full of the restlessness of metal, the ferocity of death metal, and the rhythm of groove metal. This makes it easy to distinguish your work among many bands. What is your opinion on your own work?

S: 非常感谢！正如你所言，我们的音乐融合了多元影响——每位成员都带着独特的背景（作为听众、音乐人、个体）加入，各自的创意在创作中碰撞交融。自"Horizon Calls"时期起，我们始终难以被简单归类于单一风格！但我们坚信这正是我们的优势：唯有这样独特的组合才能孕育出如此融合的音乐理念——正是成员间的碰撞与交融造就了这种特质，我们为此深感自豪。

Thank you very much! As you said, we have a multitude of influences in our sound, due to the fact that each of our members comes from his own peculiar background (as a listener, as a musician, as a human) and each of us brings his ideas to the mix. Ever since our "Horizon Calls" days, we've always been very hard to pin down into one and only one genre! However, we believe that this is our strenght: this particular mix of influences and ideas can only be born from this particular mix of persons working together and bouncing off of each other! This is something we're very proud of.

V: 作为资深乐队，你们参与过众多音乐节。哪些音乐节给你们留下深刻印象？能否描述当时的现场氛围？2026年计划参加哪些音乐节？

As an old band, you have participated in many music festivals. Which music festivals have left a deep impression on you? Can you introduce the live atmosphere at that time? Which music festivals are you planning to attend in 2026?

S: 当然是2014年Summer Core Festival！当时我们与众多新锐及资深核心乐队同台竞技。那正是整个音乐圈蓬勃发展的时期，整个音乐节都洋溢着澎湃能量。至于2026年，我们正在筹备几场演出和音乐节，但目前不便透露太多。

Oh, surely the 2014 Summer Core Festival to which we participated along with lots of both upcoming and well-established bands from the -core scene of the time. It was a moment of great activity in the scene and at the festival you could feel all the energy. As for 2026, we're working at a couple of dates and festival but we can't annouce much at the moment.

V: 2026年是否有新作品计划？例如创作录制新曲或发行专辑，能否透露些信息？

Do you have any new work to do in 2026? For example, when creating, recording new works, or releasing a brand new album, can you share some information with everyone?

S: 目前我们正在为全新专辑创作歌曲，新单曲"Submerged"和"Bow Down"正是先行曲目！专辑何时面世嘛...等它准备好了自然会发布，哈哈哈！另外我们已敲定几场演出，还在积极争取更多场次！

Well, at the time we're in the process of songwriting for a new full-lenght album, of which our new singles "Submerged" and "Bow Down" are the first taste! The album will come out... when it's ready, ahahah! Also, we already have a couple of gigs and are hunting for more!

V: 你们是支非常出色的乐队，我将持续关注并支持你们。也希望通过这次访谈让更多中国乐迷认识你们。最后想对中国的乐迷说些什么吗？

You are a very excellent band, and I will always pay attention to and support your band. I also hope that through this interview, more Chinese fans can get to know your band. Do you have anything you want to say to Chinese fans at the end of the interview?

S: 非常感谢！我们深知中国拥有极具魅力的Heavy Metal与Metalcore场景（Tang Dynasty! Ego Fall! The Last Successor! Five Penalties! Yaksa!），这些乐队理应获得西方更多认可。我们衷心希望中国乐迷能欣赏我们这支意大利现代金属乐队的风格并给予支持。说不定哪天我们就能去你们那里演出呢！感谢你们拨冗接受采访，也感谢你们的热情接待。
