Today's interview was with the Italian Symphonic Metal band Vivaldi Metal Project, a solo project formed by Misteria in 2013. In 2016, they released their first official album, "The Four Seasons," which lasted for over an hour and used a large number of keyboards, pianos, orchestral instruments, and other instruments to replace traditional ones, creating a majestic atmosphere. The addition of symphonic elements also made their works more grandiose, Mistria invited female singers to perform, making their works more melancholic and atmospheric. In 2022, the band released their second official album "EpiClassica", which still maintained all the advantages of their first album. After the release of this album, the band was also recognized by more fans. In 2025, Vivaldi Metal Project released their latest single "Deep Core (Special Video Version)". At the time of the release of the new single, the magazine contacted the band for an exclusive interview!

Hello Mistheria, nice to meet you and thank you very much for participating in this interview. I think this is your first time accepting an interview from a Chinese magazine. Vivaldi Metal Project was formed in 2013 and is a long-standing band. How did you form this band in the first place? What does the name Vivaldi Metal Project mean?

Hello and thank you for the invitation to my first interview for a Chinese magazine. I'm happy and so thrilled to speak to you and Chinese music lovers. The Vivaldi Metal Project was born in December 2013, and the first album, "The Four Seasons," was released in 2016. The idea of performing it live came gradually, first with some unplugged concerts in 2017, featuring piano and vocals, held in Finland and Italy. In the summer of 2018, I received an offer to perform a concert with the entire band, so I decided to accept and chose the musicians. The initial lineup consisted of musicians who had participated in the recording of the first album. We performed three concerts in 2018: an acoustic one in Finland, then the electric debut in Bulgaria, and then in Italy. From these three concerts, the live DVD "Live Concert Premieres 2018" was released. The name Vivaldi Metal Project refers to the initial idea of the project, which wanted to re-propose, in a symphonic-metal key, Antonio Vivaldi's masterpiece, "The Four Seasons". So the name was born in his honor, but then it stuck, having become very recognizable and represents the idea of dressing classical music in metal clothes.

You are the only one in this band, but there are many other musicians who have accepted your invitation to join the band. How did these musicians join the band?

I'm the creator and producer, but as a musician, I'm not alone; I couldn't perform our music on stage as a solo project. The other 12 musicians in the band are an integral part of the project and the concerts. The musicians have changed somewhat since 2018. I personally invite them, and based on their schedules and geographic location, we work out the logistics, especially regarding rehearsals, general preparation, and pre-concert preparation. In general, most of the preparation is done independently by the musicians. I follow them online and then we all meet up for rehearsals together, usually in Rome.

You are an excellent musician, can you introduce your creative process? I believe your creative experience will bring inspiration to more young musicians!

Thank you so much for appreciating my work. My creative process varies depending on the purpose, whether it's my solo work, the Vivaldi Metal Project, or for third-party artists/bands. I enjoy both original composition and the arrangement and refinement of pieces written by other musicians. Inspiration can come from many sources, but the common thread is that I sense when the time is right to compose and when it's best to put it off. I almost always start by getting my hands on the piano, which is my primary composing and recording instrument. This is followed by the arrangement, which coincides with the recording. Ideas usually flow naturally throughout the entire process, and I usually do record them all on the first take to keep the inspiration and feeling high. Then, I continue with adjustments while simultaneously choosing sounds and parts for the other instruments. With the Vivaldi Metal Project, there's teamwork; in fact, I have a group of about 10-15 composers/arrangers/orchestrators who work for me and with me on all the songs.

Your works have excellent recording effects. Which studio did you record your album in? Which producer made the album for you? Did the recording process of your latest single release in 2025 go smoothly?

I'm glad you like the sound of the albums. All Vivaldi Metal Project releases are mixed and mastered at Artesonika Recording Studio in Italy, engineered by Ivan Moni Bidin. I produce both Vivaldi Metal Project and my solo works. The recent Vivaldi Metal Project single, "Deep Core," was an official cover featuring two of the band's vocalists, Arianna Marciano and Gianluca Mastrangelo, based on the studio version as found on the "EpiClassica" album. The vocals for this version were recorded at Native Sound Studio (Italy), engineered by Enzo Di Giuseppe. The video was filmed and edited by Mario Perrella (Italy). The production was very smooth, thanks in large part to the outstanding talent of the two singers.

Your band's logo design is very simple, I can easily remember your names, and your logo design is also very beautiful. Who designed this logo for you? Your album artwork is also beautifully designed. Who designed the artwork for you?

As I mentioned before, the name immediately became highly recognizable and memorable, thanks in large part to the logo, simple yet elegant and iconic. Its shapes and lines perfectly embody the Vivaldi Metal Project's style and almost evoke a “sound” behind that image. It

was designed by German graphic designer Henrik Ringbert. The album artwork was created by various graphic designers: Henrik Ringbert for "The Four Seasons," the EP "The Extended Sessions," and the DVD "Live Concert Premieres 2018" (Lorenzo D'Angella also worked on this packaging), and Nello Dell'Omo for the latest studio album, "EpiClassica."

Conceptual stories about life and death is your music theme. Why did you choose this music theme? What do you want to express through this music theme? You also created the lyrics section, were these lyrics created by yourself? What does his inspiration come from?

This that you mention is the theme of the first album, "The Four Seasons". The inspiration came from the concept of this instrumental masterpiece by Vivaldi, inspired by sonnets about the seasons of nature and their changes throughout the year. My idea was to draw a parallel with the seasons of human life, from before birth to after death. The second album, "EpiClassica," instead tackles different themes depending on the pieces, which are based on many composers (Vivaldi, Bach, Mozart, Liszt, Chopin, Beethoven, etc.). For "The Four Seasons," the lyrics were written primarily by Douglas Docker, while for "EpiClassica" there are various lyricists. I recommend reading the booklets because so many musicians and composers participated—over 300 for the two albums, plus orchestras and choirs.

You have collaborated with Sifare and Pride&Joy Music to release albums. Can you introduce these two labels and how did you establish contact and collaborate with them? Are you satisfied with the work of these two brands?

These two record labels have done a tremendous job on both the Vivaldi Metal Project albums and my solo work. The German label "Pride&Joy Music" believed in the Vivaldi Metal Project from the start and offered me my first contract based only on a couple of demos I had just finished. "Sifare" (Italy) released my solo Piano works and the Vivaldi Metal

Project’s DVD "Live Concert Premieres 2018." For Sifare, I also work as an external collaborator, arranger, and composer. Both labels have been incredibly supportive, and I will always be grateful to them. "EpiClassica," the second studio album from VMP, was released by me because the production was long and very demanding. I wanted to see it through to the end, even though I received various offers from other record labels, but I preferred to keep the work under my control at every stage. I'd also like to mention Lion Music (Finland), my first record company, which released my debut album, "Messenger of the Gods," in 2004. Rockshot Records, Italian label, released a very significant album for me, the instrumental"Gemini," which showcases my work as a composer and pianist/keytarist/keyboardist. This album collects my unreleased (at that time) instrumental works, composed between 1992 (my first metal song) and 2017. Thanks to the teams at these labels who have supported my career so far and allowed me to bring my music to the world and fans.

First of all, congratulations on the release of your latest single "Deep Core (Special Video Version)" this year. Your work is very particular about atmosphere, stability, complex arrangement, grandeur, clear voice, and beautiful female voice. Your work has left a deep impression on people. What is your opinion on your own work? Have there been any changes between the new and old works?

Thank you so much for the wonderful feedback on the recent video for "Deep Core." It's a song that always resonates, being based on Albinoni's legendary "Adagio in G minor," and both the original studio version (featuring singers Mark Boals, Alessandro Del Vecchio, Emmanuelle Zoldan, and Elmas Mehmet) and the video version (featuring Arianna Marciano and Gianluca Mastrangelo) are deeply moving and engaging, creating that magical, evocative, and majestic atmosphere you described. I share your vision of the song, and as for my own work, I believe it has been linked by the same style and approach from the beginning to today. Epicness and majesty combined with melody and emotion are distinctive and important characteristics of my music.

V: 你参加过哪些音乐节，哪些音乐节给你留下了深刻的印象？你能介绍一下当时的现场气氛吗？2026年还有其他音乐节邀请你参加吗？

Which music festivals have you attended and which ones have left a deep impression on you? Can you introduce the live atmosphere at that time? Are there any other music festivals in 2026 that invite you to participate?

Given the number of band members—between 11 and 12—participating in festivals requires a bit more organization than other “normal” bands, both for us and for the festival organizers themselves. For this reason, we haven't participated in many festivals so far, except for the “Kitee International Music and Art Festival” in Finland, the “Tangra Mega Rock” in Bulgaria, and the “Dokkem Festival” in the Netherlands, and recently we have performed at the “BaRock Festival” in Italy, featuring the latest lineup. All three of these festivals were fantastic; the audience responded incredibly and surprisingly, the reception was truly thrilling! The Dokkem Festival was very special for us; we were "outsiders" for that event dedicated exclusively to extreme metal, where we performed after great bands in this genre, our spot was after Pestilence and before Cannibal Corpse … can you believe it? :) It was definitely one of the most special experiences that allowed us to bring Classical music to hard-to-die Metal fans, and the reception was impressive! For 2026, we've been invited to a couple of festivals, one of which is in Italy. I can't give any details yet, as they haven't been confirmed. We would definitely like to participate in more festivals, this is one of my goals for 2026.

Correct. Work on the new Vivaldi Metal Project studio album is scheduled for 2026, and has already begun with the preparation of the first single that I’m co-working with singer/composer Gianluca Mastrangelo. I can anticipate that it will be a single album (not a double disc) and that it will be recorded by the band itself, orchestra and choir, with the participation of a few very special guests. The team will be the same as for "EpiClassica", featuring most of the composers, arrangers, and orchestrators, sound engineer Ivan Moni Bidin at the Artesonika Recording Studio for the mixing and mastering, Nello Dell’Omo as graphic designer, and, again, me as producer. The current band lineup features: Arianna Marciano, Kate Nord, and Gianluca Mastrangelo on vocals; Abigail Stahlschmidt, Anna Buevich, and Tanya Swinton on violin; Francesco Mattei, Leonardo Porcheddu, and Marko Pavic on guitar; Mistheria on keyboards; Luca Basile on cello; Dino Fiorenza on bass; Paolo Conte on drums.
