奥地利有很多大家熟悉的Black Metal乐队，比如国内知名很高的乐队Summoning乐队，还有之前采访到Herbscure乐队也是来自这个国家，那么今天继续给大家介绍一支来自奥地利的Death/Black Metal乐队Richthammer，组建于2009年的Richthammer乐队是奥地利一支很有资历的老牌乐队，虽然乐队目前只发行一张EP和正式专辑，三首单曲，但是他们在奥地利参加过众多演出的乐队，尤其是2018年发行的第一张正式专辑“Ascheland”深受奥地利歌迷的关注和好评，一张充满了邪恶，愤怒，残暴的Death/Black Metal式作品，今年乐队也发行了他们的最新单曲“Durch Trieb zur Qual”，在新单曲发行之际杂志与乐队取得联系进行了一次专访！

There are many well-known Black Metal bands in Austria, such as the well-known domestic band Summoning, and the Herbscure band that was previously interviewed also comes from this country. Today, we will continue to introduce a Death/Black Metal band Richthammer from Austria. Richthammer, formed in 2009, is a very experienced and veteran band in Austria. Although the band has only released one EP, official album, and three singles, they have participated in many performances in Austria, especially their first official album "Ascheland" released in 2018, which was highly praised by Austrian fans. It is a Death/Black Metal style work full of evil, anger, and cruelty. This year, the band also released their latest single "Durch Trieb zur Qual", On the occasion of the release of the new single, the magazine contacted the band for an exclusive interview!

Hello brother, nice to meet you and thank you very much for participating in this interview. I think this is the first time your band has been interviewed by a Chinese magazine. First of all, I would like to say hello to all Chinese fans. Richthammer band was founded in 2009 and is a very experienced veteran band. How did you form this band in the first place?

R: 首先，向在中国的听众致以问候！这实际上是我们第一次接受中国杂志的采访，我们对此感到非常兴奋。早在2009年，我们还处于青少年时期，只是想做音乐——从那以后我们就再也没有停止过。

First of all, hello and greetings to our listeners in China! This is actually our first interview with a Chinese magazine, and we’re really excited about it. Back in 2009, we were still in our teenage years and just felt like making music—and we’ve never stopped since.

V: 为什么在2014年至2022年更换了两名新成员后，第一代成员离开了你的乐队？新成员是如何加入乐队的，你对他们的工作满意吗？新成员给乐队带来了什么新的创作灵感？

Why did the first generation members leave your band after two new members were replaced from 2014 to 2022? How did the new members join the band and are you satisfied with their work? What new creative inspirations did the new member bring to the band?

R: Richthammer的所有前成员都因个人生活的变化而离开了乐队。然而，这从未影响我们与他们的友谊。我们对目前的吉他手非常满意——就像他之前的每个人一样，他是乐队的正式成员。

All former members of Richthammer left the band due to changes in their personal lives. However, that never affected our friendships with them. We’re very happy with our current guitarist—just like everyone before him, he is a full-fledged member of the band.

V: 你们乐队的每个成员都是有丰富创作经验的音乐家。你能介绍一下你的创作过程吗？我相信你的创作经验会给更多的年轻音乐家带来灵感！

Each member of your band is a musician with rich creative experience. Can you introduce your creative process? I believe your creative experience will bring inspiration to more young musicians!

R: 多年来，我们的歌曲创作发生了很大变化。早期，我们的歌曲大多来自排练室里的即兴演奏，当然是全音量的😉 与此同时，我们两人在维也纳学习了我们的乐器和作曲，这对我们的歌曲创作帮助很大。如今，我们立即将想法记录为演示，大部分工作发生在工作室而不是排练空间。

Over the years, our songwriting has changed a lot. In the early days, our songs mostly came from jamming together in the rehearsal room—of course at full volume 😉 In the meantime, two of us studied our instruments and composition in Vienna, which has helped us a lot when it comes to songwriting. Nowadays, we record ideas as demos right away, and most of the work happens in the studio rather than in the rehearsal space.

Your works have excellent recording effects. Which studio did you record your album in? Which producer made the album for you? Did the recording process of your new single go smoothly?

We’re extremely happy—and honestly very excited—to have Victor Bullok from Woodshed Studio in Germany on board for the upcoming album. As the guitarist of Celtic Frost, Dark Fortress, and Triptykon, he is considered a living legend of extreme metal in Europe. And yes, as you can imagine, we’re more than satisfied with the overall situation surrounding the new project.

V: 你的乐队换了个新标志，比旧的更精致。谁为你设计了这个新标志？你的专辑艺术品经历了从早期血腥封面到后来祭祀风格艺术品的重大风格变化。谁为你设计了这些专辑艺术品？

Your band has changed to a new logo, which is more exquisite compared to the old one. Who designed this new logo for you? Your album artworks have undergone significant style changes from early bloody covers to later sacrificial style artworks. Who designed these album artworks for you?

R: 我们一直试图把我们所做的一切都变成艺术。这就是为什么我们一直在艺术品和视觉概念等方面投入大量精力。多年来，你自然会认识许多来自不同创意领域的艺术家。

We’ve always tried to turn everything we do into art. That’s why we’ve consistently put a lot of effort into things like artwork and visual concepts. Over the years, you naturally get to know many artists from a wide range of creative fields.

V: 你的乐队与Studio Hundert Records合作发行了他们的第一张官方专辑。你是如何联系到这个品牌进行合作的？你对这个品牌的工作满意吗？

Your band collaborated with Studio Hundert Records to release their first official album. How did you get in touch with this label to collaborate? Are you satisfied with the job at this brand?

All in all, Ascheland worked out really well for us. We learned a lot. For the first time, we really dove deeper into the topic of sound and what we actually want to sound like as a band. Working with Jay Hundert was great—but we were his first extreme metal band. So not only did we learn a lot from him, but he also learned a lot from us. For sound-related reasons, we eventually decided to go separate ways artistically. However, we’re still good friends and continue to work together outside of the creative side.

V: 你的音乐主题是什么，你为什么选择这个音乐主题，你想通过这个音乐主题表达什么？你还创建了歌词部分。谁创作了这些歌词，是什么启发了他们？

What is your music theme about, why did you choose this music theme, and what do you want to express through this music theme? You also created the lyrics section. Who created these lyrics and what inspired them?

R: 我们没有选择这个音乐主题，而是它选择了我们😉 说到歌词，我们喜欢合作。一旦一首歌大致完成，我们就开始头脑风暴，然后把所有东西拼凑在一起，进一步发展想法，直到我们满意为止。

We didn’t choose this musical theme—it chose us 😉 When it comes to lyrics, we like to work collaboratively. Once a song is instrumentally roughly finished, we start with a brainstorming session, then piece everything together and develop the ideas further until we are satisfied.

V: 你们乐队的专辑发行速度很慢。你只在2013年发行了一张EP专辑，随后在2018年发行了专辑，并在2025年至2026年发行了两首单曲。你为什么选择这么慢的释放速度？

Your band's album release speed is very slow. You only released an EP album in 2013, followed by an album in 2018, and two singles in 2025-2026. Why did you choose such a slow release speed?

As mentioned before, we were very young at the beginning and had to finish our education first. After that, we had to work a lot—because it’s very hard to make a living from extreme metal alone in Europe. Line-up changes, as well as the two-year break during the pandemic, also slowed us down.

First of all, congratulations to your band for releasing their latest single this year, a traditional death metal plate full of obvious black metal influences and some intense improvisational repetitions. The drumming is very precise, and the bass is the perfect pillar of music, providing enough space for guitar works to showcase their skills. Your tuning creates a dark and contemplative atmosphere. Do you have any opinions on your own works? Is there any change between the new album and the old album?

R: 正如你之前提到的，我们的发布之间已经有一段时间了。这给了我们重塑自我的机会。多年来，我们学到了很多，现在我们更兴奋地应用这些知识，充分享受创造自己的艺术形式。新歌更复杂，但同时也比我们以前的材料更容易理解。也就是说，我们仍然很难将Ascheland和我们的新单曲或即将发行的专辑进行直接比较。

As you mentioned earlier, there has been some time between our releases. This gave us the opportunity to reinvent ourselves. We’ve learned a lot over the years, and we’re even more excited now to apply that knowledge and fully enjoy creating our own form of art. The new songs are more complex, yet at the same time more accessible than our previous material. That said, it’s still difficult for us to make direct comparisons between Ascheland and our new singles or the upcoming album.

V: 作为一个老乐队，你参加过许多音乐节。哪些音乐节邀请你参加并给你留下了深刻的印象？你能介绍一下当时的现场气氛吗？2026年还有哪些新的音乐节邀请你参加？

As an old band, you have participated in many music festivals. Which music festivals have invited you to attend and left a deep impression on you? Can you introduce the live atmosphere at that time? What other new music festivals invite you to participate in 2026?

R: 对我们来说，每一个音乐节都像是一场庆祝活动！然而，我们特别想强调一下卡尔滕巴赫露天球场。这个音乐节在奥地利阿尔卑斯山脉中部的一片森林中举行，为我们的音乐提供了完美的氛围。奥地利的金属行业和社区一直非常强大，多年来一直如此。

Every music festival feels like a celebration to us! However, we especially want to highlight Kaltenbach Open Air. This festival takes place in the middle of the Austrian Alps, in a forest clearing, and provides the perfect atmosphere for our kind of music. The metal scene and community in Austria have always been incredibly strong and have stayed that way over the years.

V: 你刚刚发行了一首新单曲，这是否意味着你即将发行一张新专辑？你能和大家分享一些信息吗？

You just released a new single, does this indicate that you are about to release a new album? Can you share some information with everyone?

R: 当然！我们迫不及待地想发行整张专辑（希望在2027年初）。在那之前，我们全年都会继续取笑零碎的东西😉

Hell yeah! We can’t wait to release the full album (hopefully in early 2027). Until then, we’ll keep teasing bits and pieces throughout the year 😉
