今天采访的是来自马达加斯加的乐队，说实话我也是第一次接触到来自这个国家的乐队，在网站上查询了一下关于这个国家的乐队也只有区区的32支乐队，Osy Mainty是组建于2010年的一支单人项目，不过直到2022年乐队的唯一成员BlacK才发行了作品，第一张作品“Born Within Disgrace”由哥伦比亚的Masters of Kaos Productions（现已关闭）厂牌发行，Osy Mainty的作品充满了浓重的实验味道，一些Black Metal和Doom Metal元素让他的作品在氛围方面得到更高的提升，冰冷，缓慢的节奏，给人一种沮丧的感觉，2022年乐队在Masters of Kaos Productions发行了第二张正式专辑“Abomination's Nest”，2023年乐队与来自肯尼亚的Chovu乐队合作了三张Collaboration专辑，随后乐队与美国的Pagan Pride Records厂牌合作发行了一张Spilt专辑，2023 - 2025年乐队发行多张作品，可以感受到BlacK的强烈创作欲望，前不久杂志与乐队取得联系进行了一次专访！

Today, we are featuring an interview with a band from Madagascar. To be honest, this is my first time encountering a band from this country; a quick online search reveals there are a mere 32 bands listed from the nation. Osy Mainty is a one-man project formed in 2010, though its sole member, BlacK, did not release any material until 2022. The debut release, *Born Within Disgrace*, was issued by the Colombian label Masters of Kaos Productions (now defunct). Osy Mainty’s work is heavily experimental; the incorporation of Black Metal and Doom Metal elements elevates the atmospheric quality of the music, while the cold, slow-paced rhythms evoke a sense of despondency. In 2022, the band released its second full-length album, *Abomination's Nest*, via Masters of Kaos Productions. This was followed in 2023 by three collaborative albums with the Kenyan band Chovu and a split album released in partnership with the US label Pagan Pride Records. With multiple releases between 2023 and 2025, BlacK’s prolific creative drive is evident. We recently got in touch with the band to conduct this exclusive interview!

Hello, BlacK. It’s a pleasure to meet you, and thank you so much for taking part in this interview—I believe this is your first time being interviewed by a Chinese magazine. To start things off, please say hello to all your Chinese fans. The band Osy Mainty was formed in 2010, making it a veteran group with a 16-year history; how did you go about forming the band back then?

B: 你好，感谢这次采访。我必须说，这是我第一次接受中国杂志的采访。Osy Mainty能拥有中国粉丝真是出乎意料，能在中国获得认可我感到非常高兴，向整个中国金属乐迷群体致以崇高的敬意。虽然这是一本金属乐刊物，但我还是想告诉你，我最喜欢的许多演员都是中国人。老实说，如果没有中国电影，我的童年将会变得非常空虚。顺便提一下，Osy Mainty的故事其实有点长，但我会尽量简明扼要地讲述。正如你所说，如果单看这个项目的历程，人们可能会以为它是一支老牌乐队；但由于——姑且说是——国家和人口状况的原因，Osy Mainty实际上从未真正作为一支实体乐队组建起来。对某些人来说，它仅仅是一个传闻或者是一件永远不会发生的事情。然而，新冠疫情爆发了，我丢了工作。在找新工作遇到困难的那段时间里，我有了大量空闲时间，于是重新拾起了这个项目。我在Facebook页面上发布了几首曲目以接触听众，并有幸与许多才华横溢的人合作。事实上，多亏了这个项目，我在2026年获得了官方认证艺人身份——这得益于法律程序的推进以及当地版权保护机构OMDA的协助。

Hi and thanks for this interview. I must say that it’s the very first time that I have an interview with a Chinese magazine. The fact that Osy Mainty has Chinese fans is just unexpected and I’m so happy to be recognized in China so Hail and all respect to the whole Chinese metal family. I do realize that it’s a metal zine but I wanted you to know that many of my favorite actors are Chinese. To be honest, without Chinese movies, my childhood would had been very empty. By the way, I must admit that the story of Osy Mainty is a sort of long but I’ll try to make it short and clear. As you said, if we refer to the lifespan of the project, peoples might think that it’s an old school band but due to – let’s say – the situation of the nation and the population, Osy Mainty was never bornas a real band. For some peoples it was just a sort of rumor or something that shall never happen. But Covid 19 came and I got fired from my job. Then, as I had trouble with finding a new one, I had a lot of free time and I went back to my old works on the project. I released few tracks on the Facebook page in order to reach peoples and I had the chance to work with so many many many talented peoples. In fact, thanks to the project, I even got recognized as an official artist this year 2026 achieving to the legal process and within the help of OMDA, a local structure that protects copyright.

V: 既然你是“一人乐队”，便拥有完全的创作自由，可以完全按照自己的构想来创作歌曲。能跟我们谈谈你的创作过程吗？

Since you are a one-man band, you have complete creative freedom to write songs exactly the way you envision them. Could you tell us a bit about your creative process?

B: 关于Osy Mainty的创作过程，首先要提的是，这个项目有着深厚的情感基础。除了音乐元素中显而易见的实验性特质外，我在作曲时非常注重捕捉和确认自己的真实感受，力求让音乐本身的情绪得到更充分的表达。其次，在制作设备方面，我的方式非常“DIY”（自制）。其实，我用的麦克风甚至算不上专业级设备；但幸运的是，多亏了曾在多媒体学校接受过（尽管因故未能修完）的优质培训，我掌握了足够的技巧，能够胜任Osy Mainty人声部分的自主录制。至于器乐部分的制作，流程很简单：先用Guitar Pro之类的软件编排音乐，在进行人声录制和混音之前，为每个音轨设定合适的音色参数。此外，随着时间的推移，我的音乐技能和知识不断积累，这也推动了项目的成长。事实上，Osy Mainty并非我的首次尝试，而且我从未接受过正统的学院派音乐训练。其实，我是伴随着一位音乐天才长大的——他教会了我识谱和作曲，而他正是我的亲弟弟。简而言之，如果说学校的老师让我学会了英语，那么我的弟弟则让我成为了一名作曲家。对于Osy Mainty而言，灵感大多源于情感，尽管有时我也说不清灵感究竟从何而来。我只是享受将灵感转化为现实作品的过程，或许这正是连接“构想”与“观察”之间的一步吧。

Well, the first point I can mention about the creative process around Osy Mainty is that the project has a strong emotional base. I think that beside the noticeable experimental side of the musical elements, I try to be sure of what I feel when I compose it in order to bring a more important exposure to the mood of the music itself. Secondly, when it comes to equipment for production, what I’m using is very – DIY - . Actually, even my microphone is not professional but by luck and thanks to an excellent paying training in a multimedia school that I couldn’t have completed for some reason, I’m good enough at the self-recording I do for the vocal tracks of Osy Mainty. The instrumental phase just consist in programing the music with an app like Guitar Pro and adding the right sound settings for each track before the vocal recording and the mix. Beside this point, with time, my musical skills and knowledge increased and helped the project to grow up. Indeed, Osy Mainty was not my first trial and I never had any academic music’s learning. Actually, I grew up with a sort of music virtuoso and genius who taught me how to read and write music, and that is my just lil brother. In a couple of worlds, if my teachers at school and more made me an English speaker, my lil brother made me a composer. Most of time, when it comes to Osy Mainty, inspiration is generated by emotions however sometimes I just can’t say where is the inspiration from. I’m just happy with bringing it to the physical world and maybe that’s just the step between an idea and an observation.

V: 你们在2010年组建了乐队，却直到2022年才发布作品；是什么让你们决定在这么多年之后将其公之于众？

You formed the band in 2010 but didn't release any material until 2022; what made you decide to release your work after all those years?

B: 我一直以来都热衷于音乐，也偶尔会做些音乐项目——哪怕只是出于兴趣。不过，在封锁期间，我发现社交媒体上涌现出了大量个人音乐项目，这让我不禁想到：也许互联网的某个角落也能容纳我的音乐？于是，我创建了在线主页，好让大家能听到我的作品。

Somehow I’ve always been a music fan within his lil world that’s sometimes includes a couple of project – even for fun – sometimes but during the lockdown, the number of solo project sharply increased if I refer to what I’ve seen on social medias and maybe I whispered to myself that there would be a lil place for my music somewhere in the internet so I created online pages in order to make ir reachable.

V: 2023年，你与肯尼亚乐队Chovu合作制作了三张专辑。你是如何与该乐队建立联系并促成这次合作的？

In 2023, you collaborated on three albums with the Kenyan band Chovu. How did you connect with the band to initiate this collaboration?

B: 嗯，最初这个想法大概源自"Masters Of Chaos"，不过也许是因为这两个乐队太享受彼此的合作了，所以才一而再、再而三地继续合作下去……

Well, at the beginning, I think the idea came from Masters Of Chaos but maybe the two bands just enjoyed working together so much that they did it again… and again.

V: 你的所有作品音质都非常出色；请问制作工作是在家里完成的，还是在专业录音室录制的？

All your works have excellent sound quality; did you handle all the production work at home, or was the recording done in a professional studio?

B: 因此，在制作Osy Mainty的大部分工作中，一旦设备调试妥当，我便能独立完成；不过必须承认，有时我还是需要在专业录音室进行录音——尤其是为了首张专辑中的几首曲目。

So, for most of my work on Osy Mainty, I’m independent once the gear works well but I must say that sometimes I had to have recording sessions in professional studios especially for a couple of tracks from the debut album.

V: 你音乐的主题是什么？为何选择这一主题，又希望借此表达什么？歌词也出自你之手——其创作灵感源自何处？

What is the theme of your music? Why did you choose this theme, and what do you wish to express through it? You also wrote the lyrics—what was the inspiration behind them?

B: 我认为主题因曲目而异，但对于Black Metal而言，黑暗的基调无处不在。在歌词创作上，我喜欢发挥自己的诗歌功底；将音乐创作与诗歌结合起来，实在是一件美妙的事情。寻找灵感并不需要费多大劲，一旦有了切入点，我便开始在词句间自由驰骋。我遵循的原则是让韵脚朗朗上口、通俗易懂，但若细细品味，字里行间往往又蕴含着多重含义或深层讯息。我也会尝试使用多种语言来构思韵脚——即便这意味着可能要耗费数周甚至数月的时间才能打磨出满意的佳句。那种独特的音韵美感令人着迷，这种文字游戏般的创作过程更是让人欲罢不能。

I think the theme depends on each track but when it comes to black metal, darkness is everywhere. For lyrics, I love to let my poetry skills talk. Combining music creation and poetry is just an amazing activity. I don’t need much to find a good topic and then I just play with worlds and sentences. My principles is to make my rhymes catchy and easy to understand but within, most of time, several meanings or messages at the same time when you read it well. I also use several languages trying from time to time to use different language to make rhymes even if it can take me weeks or months to make good ones. The way it rings or sounds is sometimes lovely and that mind game is just addictive.

V: 你早期的作品大多是与Masters of Kaos Productions厂牌合作发行的，但该厂牌现已停业，于是你选择通过总部位于肯尼亚的Anatomy Africa厂牌发行最新作品。看来你与肯尼亚有着深厚的渊源；能向我们介绍一下这个厂牌吗？马达加斯加当地有金属乐厂牌吗？

You released most of your work in collaboration with the label Masters of Kaos Productions, but since that label has shut down, you chose to release your latest material through Anatomy Africa—a label based in Kenya. It seems you have a strong connection with Kenya; could you tell us a bit about this label? Are there any metal labels in Madagascar?

B: 说实话，我已经很久没有收到关于Masters Of Chaos的消息了，你是第一个告诉我他们已经停止运营的人。由于我与最初的商业合作伙伴（即Masters Of Chaos）之间缺乏反馈互动，我觉得暂时搁置一下是明智之举。此外，在以“Osy Mainty”的名义与肯尼亚团队合作后，双方都觉得联手打造一个集体项目会很有趣，于是他们创立了Anatomy厂牌，并邀请我担任制作人（或者说是负责提供器乐伴奏的角色）。在肯尼亚及其周边地区推广了几首器乐曲目之后，该厂牌发行了数张专辑，收录了众多当地摇滚和金属乐艺人及乐队的作品；其中一些艺人甚至利用自己的设备和方式，对部分曲目进行了重新录制。考虑到我察觉到Masters Of Chaos遇到了一些麻烦，我觉得选择与Anatomy合作发行"Nocturnal Voodoo"这张专辑会更稳妥。另外，虽然马达加斯加全岛也有几家金属乐厂牌，但据我所知，真正专注于金属乐领域的寥寥无几。必须承认，金属乐在这里远非主流音乐。

Ok, it’s been a while that I got no news from Masters Of Chaos and you’re the first one who told me about the shutdown. As I didn’t receive much feedback from them who were my first commercial partners, I thought taking a lil break would be wise. Beside this, after collaborating with the Kenyan crew as Osy Mainty, both side agreed that working together on a collective project would be interesting so they started the label Anatomy and gave me the position of producer or maybe instrumental provider. After they have spread a couple of instrumental tracks all across Kenya and its neighborhood the label released a couple of albums featuring a large number of regional rock and metal artists and bands including some who even re-recorded some of the tracks using their own methods and gears. And as I

also noticed that Masters Of Chaos had a couple of troubles, I have supposed that releasing the album Nocturnal Voodoo with Anatomy would be a safer choice. Besides that, Madagascar has few metal labels all across the island but according to what I heard only a minority can deal with 100% of metal. I must say that metal is far of being mainstream here.

V: 恭喜你在2025年发布新作。作为一名创作动力充沛的音乐人，你已积累了相当丰富的作品。你的音乐具有浓厚的实验色彩，融合了Black Metal与Doom Metal的元素，营造出一种庄严而沉重的独特氛围。你如何看待自己的作品？这张新专辑与你以往的作品有何不同？

Congratulations on the release of your new work in 2025. You are a musician with a powerful creative drive who has already released a substantial body of work. Your music is deeply experimental, blending black metal and doom metal elements to create a distinctive atmosphere—one that feels solemn and heavy. What are your thoughts on your work? How does this new album differ from your previous releases?

B: 老实说，我觉得这两个子流派在某种程度上反映了我的个性。我这人节奏比较慢，所以Doom Metal契合我的步调也就不足为奇了；至于我对DSBM或Post-Black Metal这类忧郁风格的喜爱，在这张专辑中体验这些情绪更多是创作过程的一部分，而非我刻意追求的最终目的。

To tell you the truth, I think these two subgenres are some reflects of my personality. I’m a slow guy so no surprise if doom metal suits my speed and as I love sad or melancholic stuff like DSBM or post black metal, feeling those emotions through this album was more a part of the process than a real purpose to me.

V: 你在2026年有什么新的工作计划吗？比如创作或录制新作品？能否与大家分享一些细节？

Do you have any new work plans for 2026—such as creating or recording new material? Could you share some details with everyone?

B: 今年，在“Osy Mainty”项目之外，我有机会与另一个来自马达加斯加的个人音乐项目“Roots Volta”合作，该项目风格更偏向Thrash Metal。此外，我正在筹备一张风格不那么实验性的专辑，计划于2027年推出，不过目前尚未完全确定。欢迎大家关注相关页面。

This year, For Osy Mainty I had the chance to work with an other Malagasy solo band called Roots Volta who is more into thrash metal. I’m also preparing a less experimental album for 2027 but nothing is sure so far. I invite you to follow the pages.

V: 老实说，这是我第一次接触来自马达加斯加的金属乐队。我一直对你们国家的金属音乐圈很好奇——能跟我介绍一下吗？有没有什么音乐节或特定的金属乐队值得推荐？

To be honest, this is my first time encountering a metal band from Madagascar. I’ve always been curious about the metal scene in your country—could you tell me a bit about it? Are there any music festivals or specific metal bands you’d recommend?

B: 若用一句话概括，马达加斯加的金属乐坛可谓人才济济，但在获得认可方面，却往往给人一种“孤儿”般的无助感。谈及演出与音乐盛会，“October Rock”是一项不容错过的年度活动；“Thrash Mania”也汇聚了众多金属乐迷，正逐渐成为当地的经典盛事。此外，“Gasy Metalheads Shows”和“Rage Of Rock Madagascar”等演出也极具吸引力，值得乐迷专程前往。这里的乐队阵容同样不容小觑：从Kazar或Samar这样的传奇乐队，到West Bullet或Hope Of A Dreamer等才华横溢的新生代力量，再到Set On Fire、Egregore或KR78这种在舞台上极具爆发力的“猛兽级”乐队——这座岛屿汇集了风格各异的金属乐队、艺人与音乐作品，足以满足各种口味的需求。

In one sentence I would say that the Malagasy metal scene is huge in regards of talent but sometimes feel like if they were orphans when it comes to recognition. If I had to talk about gigs and feasts I’d say that October Rock is coming soon and takes place every year. Thrash Mania also gathers a lot of metalheads and tends to become a local classic. Apart from that shows like Gasy Metalheads Shows and Rage Of Rock Madagascar do worth a travel to the island. And bands are not the least. From legendary bands such as Kazar or Samar to the new generation that features extremely talented band like West Bullet or Hope Of A Dreamer and our local stage beasts such as Set On Fire, Egregore or KR78, the island can easily cover various styles of metal bands, artists and music.

V: 你们的乐队非常出色，我会继续关注并支持你们。也希望这次采访能让更多中国乐迷认识并支持你们。在采访结束之际，你们有什么话想对中国的乐迷说吗？

Your band is excellent, and I will continue to follow and support you. I also hope this interview helps more Chinese fans discover and support you. As we wrap up, is there anything you would like to say to your fans in China?
