今天要介绍的是来自荷兰的Thrash Metal/Metalcore乐队Zubzero组建于1999年的Zubzero乐队最初由Dirk和Lars Draaisma组建，直到现在Dirk和Lars Draaisma兄弟两个人依旧还在乐队当中，两年之后乐队自主发行了他们的第一张正式专辑“Stolen Land”，这张专辑充斥着Thrash Metal风格的狂野和Metalcore的凶狠，2005 - 2020年新的贝斯手Herman和歌手Ferdinand加入乐队，也从最初的五人的阵容转变成为现在四个人的阵容，但是他们对于Thrash Metal/Metalcore的热情从未改变，2025年乐队发行了最新EP专辑“Perverseverance”，这张专辑依旧是一张Old School歌迷感到兴奋的作品，在这张专辑当中你不会感受到一丝现代化的感觉，而是把所有歌迷带回到那个充满激情的80 - 90年代，就像他们的最新作品名字一样“顽固不化”前不久乐队的歌手Ferdinand与杂志取得联系进行了一次专访！

Today we’re featuring Zubzero, a thrash metal/metalcore band from the Netherlands. Formed in 1999, Zubzero was originally founded by Dirk and Lars Draaisma; to this day, the Draaisma brothers—Dirk and Lars—remain active members of the band. Two years later, the band independently released their first full-length album, Stolen Land, This album is brimming with the wild energy of thrash metal and the ferocity of metalcore. Between 2005 and 2020, new bassist Herman and vocalist Ferdinand joined the band, transforming the lineup from the original five members to the current four-piece. However, their passion for thrash metal and metalcore has never wavered. In 2025, the band released their latest EP, “Perverseverance,” This EP remains a thrilling release for Old School fans; you won’t find a hint of modernity in it—instead, it transports all listeners back to the passionate ’80s and ’90s. Just like the title of their latest work, “Perverseverance,” the band’s vocalist, Ferdinand, recently reached out to a magazine for an exclusive interview!

Hello Ferdinand, nice to meet you and thank you very much for participating in this interview. I think this is the first time your band has been interviewed by a Chinese magazine. First of all, let me say hello to all Chinese fans and friends. Zubzero was founded in 1999 and is a very experienced old band. How did you form this band in the first place? What does the name Zubzero mean?

F: 你好，Volcano Mag和中国的朋友们！非常感谢你们在中国给予我们这份最初的关注。感激不尽！在退出各自之前的乐队后，Dirk和Lars，Draaisma兄弟决定联手组建乐队。他们将乐队命名为“Zubzero”（以字母Z开头），这个名字比“subzero”（意为“零度以下”）还要酷。

Hello Volcano Mag and China! Thank you so much for giving us this very first bit of attention in China. Much appreciated! After quitting their previous bands, the brothers Dirk and Lars Draaisma deceided to join forces. They called their band Zubzero with a Z, which is even cooler then subzero, meening (a temperature) below zero.

V: 如今，乐队中仅剩Dirk Jacob Draaisma和Lars 'Göran' Draaisma是第一代成员。你和Herman Mulder都是后来加入乐队的。为什么原成员离开了乐队？你和Herman Mulder是如何加入乐队的？你们的加入给乐队带来了哪些变化？

Now only Dirk Jacob Draaisma and Lars 'Göran' Draaisma are the first generation members of the band. You and Herman Mulder both joined the band later. Why did the original members leave the band? How did you and Herman Mulder join the band? What changes did your joining bring to the band?

F: 贝斯手Joas加入了朋克摇滚乐队Grofvuil，而原主唱Ynse则因在荷兰军队服役，于2006年离开了乐队。Herman于2005年接手了贝斯手的位置。2020年，我被邀请担任主唱，由于我多年来一直是这支乐队的粉丝，所以我没有犹豫太久，便抓住了这个机会。我们重新激活了Zubzero的Facebook主页，完成了乐队成员们正在创作的歌曲，于2022年发行了首张新专辑"Lost Sun"并再次带着乐队踏上巡演之路。那真是段美好的时光。

Bass player Joas joined the punk rock band Grofvuil and original frontman Ynse left in 2006 because of his job in the Dutch army. Herman took over the bass duties in 2005. I was asked to pick up the mic in 2020 and since I was a fan of the band for years, I didn't hesitate long and took the chance. We dusted off the Zubzero Facebook page, completed the songs the guys were working on, released our first new cd 'Lost Sun' in 2022 and took the band on the road again. Good times.

V: 你们是一支拥有丰富创作经验的乐队，创作了许多经典作品。能否介绍一下你们的创作过程？我相信你们的创作过程会给更多年轻音乐人带来启发！

You are a group of musicians with rich creative experience, and you have created many classic works. Can you introduce the creative process? I believe your creative process will bring inspiration to more young musicians!

F: 非常感谢你的赞美。我们的创作过程很传统。Dirk来到排练室时，通常只带一两个即兴乐段。即兴演奏一番后，Herman通常会再想出一些即兴乐段。然后我填上歌词，我们不断打磨这首歌，直到满意为止。如果结果达不到我们的标准，我们会提取其中最好的部分，然后重新开始整个过程。绝无凑数之作，只有经典之作！

Thank you so much for this compliment. Our writing process is old school. Dirk comes to the rehearsal room with only one or two riffs. After jamming with it, Herman usually comes up with some more riffs. Then I add lyrics and we tweek the song untill we are satisfied. If the result isn't up to our standards, we take out the best part and start the process all over. No fillers, just killers!

V: 你们每一张专辑在录音效果方面都取得了显著进步，这与时代变迁密切相关。环境的变化也促使录音设备得到了显著提升。你们是在哪家录音棚录制专辑的？是由哪位制作人负责制作专辑的？新专辑的录制工作进展顺利吗？

Each of your albums has made significant progress in terms of recording effects, which is closely related to the changing times. Environmental changes have also led to significant improvements in recording equipment. Which studio did you record your albums in? Which producer made the album for you? Is the recording process of the new album progressing smoothly?

F: 多年来，Zubzero曾在多家录音室工作。前两张专辑是在Sing Sing Studio（荷兰）录制的，但制作人Milan Ciric已不在人世：愿他安息。2008年和2023年的专辑是在Landscape Studio（荷兰）录制的，但就在我们完成"Frostbite"录制的一周后，该录音室不幸被大火烧毁。2025年，我们进入了制作人WD的录音室——你可能通过荷兰金属Hardcore乐队Boneripper听说过他。他让"Perverseverance"的录制过程变得轻松，最终成果也令人惊艳。

Throughout the years, Zubzero worked in several studio's. The first two releases were recorded in Sing Sing Studio (NL), but producer Milan Ciric isn't among us anymore: RIP. The cd's from 2008 and 2023 were recorded in Landscape Studio (NL), but it burned down a week after our recordings for 'Frostbite'. In 2025 we hit the studio of producer WD, which you might know from the Dutch metallic hardcore band Boneripper. He made the recordings of 'Perverseverance' easy and the result is stunning.

V: 你们乐队自2008年以来整整14年都没有发布新作品，直到2022年才推出新作。为什么这么久都没有发布新作品呢？

Your band did not release any new works for 14 years after 2008, and only released new works in 2022. What is the reason why you haven't released any new works for so long?

F: Zubzero的主唱经常更换。我想，当Wytze在2009年离开后，乐队就没能形成适合录制一张像样CD的阵容。虽然前两任主唱时期还有一些未发布的素材留存，但2009年至2020年间没有任何可用素材。不过，Zubzero确实曾与多位主唱一起进行过现场演出。

Zubzero changed vocalists regulary. I guess when Wytze left in 2009, the setting hasn't been right to record a proper cd. From the periods with the first two vocalists there's even unreleased material laying around, but there's nothing useable from between 2009 and 2020. Zubzero did play live though with various frontmen.

Your early works were all self released, except for the latest EP album 'Perverseverance' which was released in collaboration with Stichting Metalization, a public-private partnership established in 2011 and currently only releasing EP albums for your band. I have heard that Ferdinand has founded this label. Can you introduce this label?

Yes, Metallization is a foundation that supports high quality underground metal. I founded it in 2011, with my friends ex-bandmate Jelle and label boss Tamme from BigBadWolf Records. We released many albums and compilation cd's, we organised gigs, a big festival and even a drum battle. In 2015 I was diagnosed with cancer and things slowed down. Tamme teamed up with Headbangers Records from the south of The Netherlands. From 2019 up till 2025 Metalization helped with the organization of the Dutch Wacken Metal Batlle and since 2020 we do the promo, management and bookings for Zubzero and act as executive producer. I hope in the future I will have some more time to get back at releasing albums for other bands.

Your music theme is about War, Justice, Politics. Why did you choose this music theme? What do you want to express through this music theme? You also created the lyrics section. Who created these lyrics and what inspired them?

F: 大多数时候，歌词都是关于那些让我感到愤怒的事情，这与喧嚣的金属/硬核音乐非常契合。这也有助于在现场演出中传递能量。此外，我还是个历史迷。历史每天都在书写，这为我提供了源源不断的灵感。另外，赫尔曼有时也会提供歌词，而"Biopiracy"这首歌是我与Dirk共同创作的。它探讨了西方世界如何剥夺贫困国家获得廉价药品的权利。对某些人来说，赚大钱比帮助需要帮助的人更重要。

Most of the time the lyrics are about stuff I can get angry at, that works really well with loud metal/hardcore music. It also helps convey energy during gigs. Next to that I'm a history geek. As history is made each day, this is a never ending source of inspiration. Also Herman sometimes delivers lyrics and I co-wrote 'Biopiracy' with Dirk. It deals with how the western world denies poor countries access to cheap medicines. For some people it's more important to make loads of money then to help those in need.

First of all, congratulations to your band for releasing their latest work this year. Your works have been influenced by Thrash Metal/Metalcore, with strong and powerful riffs, precise drum beats, and powerful vocals. Every riff can feel your great dedication. As an old band, each of your albums is very attractive. What is your opinion on your own works? What are the changes between the new album and the old expert?

F: Zubzero最初是一支受Metal影响的Hardcore乐队。2001年的"Stolen Land"和2005年的"Words Will Kill"至今听来依然不过时。强劲的吉他riff一直是音乐的基础。2000年代末期，我们逐渐摒弃了硬核的律动，但这始终是我们音乐中自然而然的一部分。现在我认为我们是一支受硬核影响的金属乐队。"Frostbite"（2023）听起来粗粝未经打磨，因为录音室发生火灾，我们没能完成混音和母带处理。2025年的"Perverseverance"音场宏大且残暴，但并不显得过于现代。

Zubzero started out as a hardcore band with metal influences. 'Stolen Land' from 2001 and 'Words Will Kill' from 2005 still sound up-to-date. Strong riffs have always been the at the base of the music. The hardcore grooves were grinded out in the late 2000's, but they are a natural part of us. Now I think we are a metal band with hardcore influences. 'Frostbite' (2023) sounds raw and unpolished as we couldn't complete the mixing and mastering due to the fire at the studio. 'Perverseverance' from 2025 sounds huge and brutal, but not too modern.

V: 作为一支资深乐队，你们参加过许多音乐节。哪些音乐节给你们留下了深刻印象？能介绍一下当时的现场氛围吗？2026年你们还计划参加哪些音乐节？能和大家分享一些相关信息吗？

As an old band, you have participated in many music festivals. Which music festivals have left a deep impression on you? Can you introduce the live atmosphere at that time? What other music festivals are you planning to participate in in 2026? Can you share some information with everyone?

F: 去年我们和Lies、Vengeance以及Destruction一起参加了Surhuzum Open Air。那是一段难忘的时光，但还是比不上去年夏天为Prong担任暖场嘉宾的那次经历。Prong是我们最崇拜的偶像，当时我们紧张得差点吓得拉裤子，不过他们都是很棒的人。今年年初我们演了三场，现在正短暂休整，为今冬的演出打造新的曲目。

Last year we played Surhuzum Open Air with Lies, Vengeance and Destruction. An unforgettable day, but it cannot top opening for Prong last summer. Prong are our biggest heroes and we almost shitted our pants, but they are great guys. We did three gigs early this year and are on a small live break now, forging a new set for coming winter.

V: 除了在2026年发行EP专辑外，你们乐队还有哪些新计划？比如创作、录制更多作品，以及发行第二张正式专辑？能和大家分享一些信息吗？

What new work will your band do besides releasing EP albums in 2026? For example, creating, recording more works, and releasing a second official album? Can you share some information with everyone?

F: 我们已经参与了波兰/乌克兰和比利时的合辑，还有更多合辑正在筹备中。今年晚些时候的演出将带来新歌和新周边，但目前尚未计划录制新专辑。希望今年秋天能把这件事挤进日程安排里。

We joined compilation cd's from Poland/Ukraine and Belgium already and more are in the making. New songs and new merch are coming for the gigs later this year, but no recordings have been planned yet. I hope we can squize that into the planning somewhere this autumn.
