说到意大利的极端金属发展历史，大家永远绕不开1这支乐队的名字，他们就是Schizo，组建于1984年的Schizo乐队，是意大利极端金属的推广乐队之一，1985年发行的Demo作品“Thrash the Unthrashable - Thrash to Kill!!!”以黑暗的氛围，凶狠毒辣的Riff为特点，迅速在意大利地下圈子传播，引起了大量歌迷的关注，1989年发行的第一张正式专辑“Main Frame Collapse”再次引起了更多歌迷的关注！第一张专辑发行之后更是得到更多歌迷的认可和关注，也被更多乐评人评为当时最出色的Thrash / Black Metal作品，在第一张专辑发行不久乐队宣布解散，直到1992年才重新组建，重组之后乐队在1992 - 11998年发行的作品均收到高度好评，2007 - 2016年发行的三张专辑也被选为当时最出色的作品，今年乐队发行了最新单曲“Paralysis”，在新单曲发行之际杂志与乐队取得联系进行了一次专访！

When discussing the history of extreme metal in Italy, one band's name is always at the forefront: Schizo. Formed in 1984, Schizo became one of the pioneering bands promoting Italian extreme metal. Their 1985 demo “Thrash the Unthrashable - Thrash to Kill!!!” characterized by its dark atmosphere and vicious, venomous riffs, quickly spread throughout the Italian underground scene, capturing the attention of a large fanbase. Their first official album, “Main Frame Collapse,” released in 1989, garnered even more attention from fans! Following its debut album, the band gained widespread recognition and acclaim from fans and critics alike, with many reviewers hailing it as one of the finest Thrash/Black Metal works of its era. Shortly after the album's release, the band announced their dissolution, only to reunite in 1992. Their subsequent releases from 1992 to 1998 received universally high praise. The three albums released between 2007 and 2016 were also selected as some of the finest works of their era. This year, the band released their latest single “Paralysis.” To coincide with the new single's release, the magazine connected with the band for an exclusive interview!

Hey, man, it's great to meet you, and thanks so much for joining us for this interview. I believe this is your band's first time being interviewed by a Chinese magazine, right? First off, say hi to all your Chinese fans. Schizo was formed back in 1984, making it a long-standing, veteran band. Who originally proposed starting the band? And what's the story behind the name “Schizo”?

S: 我们的音乐能传到你们那里，真的让我们很开心。知道在中国有乐迷支持，让我们感到自豪，也激励着我们继续前行。记得1984年那会儿，Alberto把当摆设的电吉他卖给了我，当我学会弹第一个和弦时，就邀请他来弹贝斯组建乐队。

We are really happy that our music made its way to you. Knowing we have fans in China makes us proud and pushes us to keep going. I remember back then in 1984. Alberto sold me an electric guitar that he used as an ornament, and when I learned how to play the first chords, I asked him to play the bass and create a band.

V: 你们的乐队基本保持了原始阵容，只有主唱Tony Grave于2024年加入。首位主唱为何离开乐队？新成员是如何加入的？你对新成员的工作满意吗？

Your band has largely maintained its original lineup, with only vocalist Tony Grave joining in 2024. Why did the first vocalist leave the band? How did the new member join? Are you satisfied with the new member's work?

S: 我们四十多年前创立Schizo乐队，成员更迭本是常态。我无意对任何人妄加评判，每位成员都在乐队历史中留下了独特印记。现任主唱Tony Grave完美诠释了Schizo音乐中晦暗与暴力的核心诉求。

We created Schizo more than 40 years ago. The band members changed over time. I don’t feel like praising or criticising anyone in particular. Each of them represented something in the history of the band. I can tell you that the current singer, Tony Grave, interprets perfectly what Schizo wants to express in terms of the obscurity and violence within our music.

V: 乐队每位成员都是极端金属领域的资深音乐人，你们创作了无数经典作品。能否分享你们的创作过程？相信你们的经验能激励许多年轻音乐人。今年你们刚发行了最新单曲——这次创作过程顺利吗？

Every member of your band is an experienced musician in creating extreme metal, and you've produced countless classic works. Could you share your creative process? I believe your experience will inspire many young musicians. You just released your latest single this year—did the creative process for this single go smoothly?

S: 我弹吉他，在创作过程中，这种乐器无疑是该流派的核心。创作歌曲时，我们专注于通过音乐呈现的主题，这必须与歌词相呼应。“Paralysis”是我八十年代创作的曲子，我们始终铭记这一点，力求保留其原始的悲怆感。

I play the guitar, which in this genre is for sure the main instrument as far as the composition process is concerned. When we compose a song, we focus on the theme that we want to portray in music, which has to be coherent with the lyrics. Paralysis is a song that I originally wrote in the 80s. We bore that in mind, trying to keep the pathos it had originally.

V: 你们专辑的音质非常出色。是在哪家录音室完成录制的？专辑制作人是谁？新单曲的录制进展如何？

The sound quality of your album is outstanding. Which studio did you record it in? Who was the producer for your album? How is the recording process for your new single going?

S: “Rotten Spiral”是张非常出色的专辑，录制于Tommy Vetterli（Coroner乐队成员）的录音室，他也参与了制作。但如今我们想重拾80年代标志性的粗粝晦暗音色，因此选择了本地录音室。少些精雕细琢，多些血肉之声。

Rotten Spiral is a very good album recorded in the studio of Tommy Vetterli (Coroner), who also participated in the production, but now we want to take back those raw and obscure sounds that characterised us in the 80s, and this is the reason why we turned to a studio from our area. Less subtlety and more blood.

V: 你们的乐队在1990年短暂解散，随后于1992年宣布重组。导致乐队解散的原因是什么？又是什么促使你们重聚？1999年至2005年间，乐队进入休整期，这次休整的缘由是什么？

Your band briefly disbanded in 1990 before announcing its reunion in 1992. What led to the band's dissolution? And what prompted your reunion? From 1999 to 2005, you entered a hiatus period. What caused this hiatus?

S: 录制完“Main Frame Collapse”和“Mondocane Project”第一辑后，矛盾激化至顶点。当时我们刚因场地破坏赔偿诉讼败诉——那场与Necrodeath和Incinerator联合举办的演唱会导致场地严重损毁。自那晚之后，再无人愿意接纳我们的现场演出，这也是促使我离开乐队的原因之一。

After recording Main Frame Collapse and Mondocane Project one, tension was at its highest. At that point, we had lost a lawsuit for damage due to the wrecking of a venue where we organised a concert with Necrodeath and Incinerator. After that night, nobody wanted us to play live, and that was one of the reasons that pushed me to leave the band.

V: 1989年录制“Main Frame Collapse”期间，你曾邀请Death乐队主唱Chuck Schuldiner参与项目。但因他主唱乐队行程繁忙，最终婉拒了邀约。你还记得当时的情况吗？

During the recording of “Main Frame Collapse” in 1989, you invited Chuck Schuldiner, the vocalist of Death, to join the project. However, due to his busy schedule with his main band, he declined the invitation. Do you remember that situation?

S: 确实如此。Chuck同意让我们在“M.F.C.”中献声，但我们预定的录音室档期与他随Death乐队巡演的时间冲突。于是我们邀请Ingo Veleno负责主唱部分。

It’s true. Chuck gave us his okay to sing on M.F.C. But the days we booked the studio were conflicting with the tour Chuck had had with Death. At that point, we asked Ingo Veleno to take care of the vocals.

V: 你们乐队的Logo设计非常简洁，但这种设计风格正是我个人最喜欢的，因为它让乐队名称更容易被记住。这个Logo是谁设计的？你们的专辑封面设计也相当独特——这些封面是谁设计的？

Your band's logo is designed very simply, but this design style is my personal favorite because it makes your name easy to remember. Who designed this logo for you? Your album artwork is also quite unconventional—who designed these album covers for you?

S: 那时我们没有电脑和那些现代数字设备可用。因此，我们邀请了热衷平面设计的友人Angelo Liotta来设计。最终在我们的指导下，诞生了至今仍代表我们的标志。

Back then we didn’t have computers and all those modern digital devilries at our disposal. For that reason, we asked a friend of ours who was very passionate about graphic design, Angelo Liotta, to design it. In the end, with our indications. The logo that still nowadays represents us came out.

V: 你曾与多家厂牌合作发行专辑，目前正与Punishment 18唱片公司合作，该公司也将重新发行你的早期专辑。你是如何与这些厂牌建立合作关系的？对这些厂牌的工作是否满意？

You've released albums with numerous labels, and you're currently working with Punishment 18 Records, who will also be releasing your earlier albums. How did you connect with these labels to establish these collaborations? Are you satisfied with the work of these labels?

S: Punishment 18的Corrado对我们音乐类型充满热忱，且是位极佳的合作对象。与他共事令我们完全满意。

Corrado of Punishment 18 is very passionate about our genre and he is also a phenomenal person to work with. We are absolutely satisfied to have to deal with him.

V: 首先恭喜你们推出最新单曲“Paralysis”——这张毫不妥协的Black / Thrash Metal杰作中，爆裂的狂怒与催眠般的中速节奏交织缠绕。连绵不绝的吉他轰炸冲击耳膜，呈现出精妙而严谨的编曲结构。浓重的黑金属迷雾包裹着强劲的鞭击元素，主唱的邪恶嗓音回荡着恶魔般的嘶吼。你们如何评价这张作品？与早期作品相比有何不同？

First off, congratulations on your latest single “Paralysis”—an uncompromising black/thrash metal masterpiece where explosive fury intertwines with hypnotic mid-tempo rhythms. The relentless riff barrage assaults my eardrums, delivering intricate yet tightly structured arrangements. A thick black metal haze envelops potent thrash elements, while the singer's malevolent vocals echo demonic screams. What are your thoughts on this creation? How does this new work compare to your earlier releases?

S: 正如我之前所言，我们渴望重拾血腥的本源精神，凭借在技术与创作层面的深厚积淀，不断攀升悲怆感与音乐暴力的巅峰。但对我们而言，至关重要的是避免沦为其他乐队那般毫无意义的混乱。音乐本身才是核心。Paralysis既是Schizo的缩影，亦是其未来发展的预演。

As I was saying before, we want to take back the bloody spirit of our origin and exploit our long experience both in technical terms and composition-wise to achieve and always higher levels of pathos and musical violence. It’s very important for us nevertheless that all doesn’t turn into pointless chaos as most other bands do. For us, music is important. Paralysis is the example and the preview of what Schizo are and will be.

V: 你们刚发布了新单曲——这是否意味着新专辑即将问世？能否透露些细节？

You've just released a new single—does that mean a new album is on the way? Can you share any details with us?

S: 新专辑将于2026年由Punishment 18厂牌发行，名为“Electrosurgery”这张包含11首作品的专辑延续了我们标志性的核心元素——疯狂、病态、痛苦与暴力，所有元素都将通过音乐进行驱魔。

The new album will be published by Punishment 18 in 2026. It is called “Electrosurgery” and will be made of 11 songs following the main features that characterise us, being madness, disease, pain, and violence. All elements to exorcise with music.

V: 作为资深乐队，你们曾参与众多音乐节演出。哪些音乐节给你们留下深刻印象？能否描述当时的现场氛围？2026年是否有音乐节已邀请你们参演？

As a veteran band, you've performed at numerous music festivals. Which ones left a lasting impression on you? Could you describe the atmosphere at those events? Are there any festivals scheduled for 2026 that have invited you to participate?

S: 我们刚在Obscene Extreme音乐节完成了现场演出。这是一次非常棒的体验，你们很快也能看到，因为演出视频即将发布。关于其他现场演出也有新消息——我们即将与一家重要经纪公司合作，这将为我们创造更多海外演出的机会，说不定还能去中国演出。

We just played live at the Obscene Extreme Fest. It was a very nice experience that you will be able to see as well very soon because it will soon be posted. There will also be other news as far as other live performances because we are about to collaborate with an important agency that will make us have more chances to play live mostly abroad and who knows, maybe even in China.

V: 你们是意大利极端金属乐坛的先驱者，为该国金属音乐发展做出了巨大贡献。我将继续追随并支持你们的乐队。也希望这次访谈能让更多中国乐迷发现并支持你们的音乐。访谈即将结束之际，你们想对中国的乐迷说些什么吗？

You are pioneers of Italy's extreme metal scene and have made tremendous contributions to the genre in Italy. I will continue to follow and support your band. I also hope this interview will help more Chinese fans discover and support your music. As we wrap up this interview, is there anything you'd like to say to your Chinese fans?

S: 我们通过Spotify注意到，众多乐迷从中国收听我们的音乐，这再次印证了你们确实是了不起的人民。

We noticed through Spotify that numerous fans listen to our music from China and that is just another evidence that you are really a great people.
