Today, we are interviewing the veteran Dutch grindcore band My Minds Mine. Formed in 1995, My Minds Mine stands as one of the most iconic Dutch bands of the 90s. Their 1997 demo garnered attention from the local scene, but it was their second full-length album, *Scenes of the Complete Annihilation of This Planet* (released in 2002 via the Dutch label Amenta Records), that truly put them on the map. Leaning heavily into a powerviolence style and deeply influenced by acts like Napalm Death, Brutal Truth, and 80s thrashcore, the album perfectly embodied the punk essence of grindcore, delivering a powerful, hard-hitting impact. Following the album's release, the band announced their breakup. In 2004, they released a compilation album titled *48 Reasons to Leave This Planet*, serving as a perfect retrospective of their early material. The band announced their reunion in 2015, subsequently releasing two split albums and their third full-length, *Passengers of the Void*. Upon its release, *Passengers of the Void* was hailed by critics and fans alike as one of the standout grindcore albums of 2018. While reunion albums from veteran bands often disappoint, My Minds Mine’s work is a definite exception; they stayed true to their established style and songwriting approach. Although the material might not feel "innovative" in a modern sense, it employs a creative formula that resonates deeply with longtime fans. If you are a fan of 80s and 90s grindcore, *Passengers of the Void* is an album you simply cannot miss. In 2025, the band released their latest EP, *Carve in the Holy Flesh*. To mark the release, we connected with the band's guitarist/vocalist, Shantia—with the assistance of Selfmadegod Records—for an exclusive interview.

V: 嗨，很高兴见到你，也非常感谢你接受这次采访。我想这应该是你们乐队第一次接受中国杂志的采访吧。首先，请向中国的乐迷们打个招呼。My Minds Mine成立于1995年，是一支资深乐队。当初你们是如何组建这支乐队的？“My Minds Mine”这个名字背后有什么含义吗？

Hi bro, it's nice to meet you and I'm very grateful for your participation in this interview. I think this is your band's first time being interviewed by a Chinese magazine. First of all, I'd like to say hello to all the Chinese fans. My Minds Mine was formed in 1995 and is a long-established band. How did you form this band in the first place? What is the meaning behind the name My Minds Mine?

S: 你好，不客气。确实如此，多年来我们很少接受采访，而这确实是我们第一次接受来自中国的采访。我和朋友 Rosco 曾活跃于当地的硬核和金属乐队，但我们想尝试节奏更快、风格更极端的音乐。我们的另一位朋友Ype（愿他安息）担任鼓手，他非常热衷于快节奏的音乐。我们最初是在一个旧马厩里排练，后来找到了一位名叫Lauwrens的贝斯手。至于“MMM”这个名字，其实是无意间取自Exit-13乐队的一张专辑。我一直隐约记得这是某支乐队某首歌的歌名，但当时怎么也想不起来具体出处。直到多年后，我查看了那张Exit唱片的封底，才终于弄清楚了这一点。

Hello, your welcome. That is correct, throughout the years we haven’t done too many interviews and indeed this is the first one from China. My friend Rosco and me were active in local HC and metal bands, but wanted to do something faster and more extreme. Another friend of ours, Ype (RIP) was drummer and totally into fast stuff. We started rehearsing in an old horse barn and sometime later we found a bass player, named Lauwrens. The name MMM was simply but unconsciously taken from an Exit-13 album. It was always in the back of my mind that it is a song title from some band, but could make up where it was from. It was years later that I found out after looking at the back of the Exit LP

V: 作为一支老牌乐队，成员难免会有更迭。新成员是如何加入乐队的？老成员为何离开？新成员给乐队带来了哪些变化？你们对新成员的表现满意吗？

As a veteran band, you've likely changed some members. How did the new members join the band? Why did some of the older members leave? What new changes have the new members brought to the band? Are you satisfied with the new members' work?

S: 在上述阵容进行排练后，我们在Bato家的一次聚会上结识了Rooth。他是一位极其出色的吉他手，所以我邀请他加入乐队，他也欣然应允。当时我们对原任贝斯手已不太满意，于是便分道扬镳；随着Rooth的加入，我转而担任贝斯手。到了2000年，Rooth离队，Bato接手贝斯，而我又重新弹回了吉他。当然，我对这些“新成员”的表现非常满意——毕竟他们可能也会看到这段话……😊 总之，我们并不把他们称为“新成员”，因为我们上一次更换阵容已经是十多年前的事了。我们至今仍保持每周聚会，偶尔也会一起外出旅行等等。所以，是的，我很开心。

After rehearsing in the forementioned lineup, we became friends with Rooth at a party at Bato’s place. He is an incredible guitar player so I asked him to join and he was in the band. By that time we already weren’t happy with our bass player, so we separated ways and I switched to bass, when Rooth joined. By 2000 Rooth quit and Bato came in on bass and I switched back to guitar. Of course I am happy with the “new members” work, they may read this too…😊 Anyway, we don’t call them new, as our last line up change was over 10 years ago. We still get together weekly and travel from time to time etc. So yeah, I am happy.

V: 你们是一群拥有丰富创作经验的音乐人，创作了大量经典专辑。能否分享一下你们的创作心得？相信你们的经验会给许多年轻音乐人带来启发！

You are a group of musicians with rich creative experience, and you have created a large number of classic albums. Could you share your creative experience? I believe your experience will inspire many young musicians!

S: 我认为每位成员都贡献了自己的创意与活力，而最终呈现出的作品就是大家所听见或看到的样子。这对我们来说早已是常态，毕竟我们从事这一行已经三十多年了。在创作层面，我们的做法与许多老派乐队如出一辙：通常由 Bato 和我构思灵感、创作Riffs等，以此为基础打造歌曲；随后我们会与乐队其他成员分享这些素材，大家再各自加入新的想法、歌词、鼓点编排等内容。

Well I think all members deliver their part of creativity and energy and the total output is what you hear/see. For us it is nothing new as we do this for over 30 years. Creative wise I think it is very standard to what lots of old school bands do; Bato and me come up with ideas, riffs etc. and make songs. We share these with the rest and they come up with additional ideas, lyrics, drum patterns etc.

V: 你们的每一张专辑录音质量都极佳，且一张比一张出色。这无疑得益于时代的进步，毕竟现在的录音条件远胜以往。你们是在哪家录音室录制的专辑？由哪位制作人操刀？你们 2025 年的 EP 录制进展如何？今年，Selfmadegod Records 将重新发行你们的经典专辑"Scenes of the Complete Annihilation of This Planet"。你们是会重新录制这张专辑，还是直接使用原始版本？

Each of your albums boasts exceptional recording quality, with each showing significant improvement. This is undoubtedly due to the changing times, as recording conditions are far superior to those of the past. Which studio did you record your albums in? Which producer produced them? How is the recording of your 2025 EP progressing? This year, Selfmadegod Records will re-release your classic album "Scenes of the Complete Annihilation of This Planet." Will you re-record this album or use the original version?

S: 谢谢。这些全长专辑是在当地的Sing Sing录音室录制的——遗憾的是，这家录音室如今已不复存在。前两张专辑的录制和混音均在那里完成；第三张专辑则仅在那里进行录制，混音工作是在另一家本地录音室WD完成的。"Carve in the Holy Flesh"于2025年底发行。是的，SMG确实已经发行了前两张专辑的CD再版。

Thank you. The full lengths were recorded at Sing Sing by Milan, a local studio that unfortunately does not exist anymore. The first two albums were recorded and mixed over there. Third one was only recorded over there and mixed at WD, another local studio. The Carve in the holy flesh” was released by the end of 2025. Yes SMG did put out the first two rereleases on CD already.

V: 你们的Logo设计非常简洁，却是我个人最喜欢的一个，因为它让我很容易记住乐队的名字。这个 Logo 是谁设计的？你们的专辑封面设计也极具特色，这些作品出自谁之手？

Your logo design is very simple, but it's my personal favorite design because it makes it easy for me to remember your band's name. Who designed this logo for you? Your album art is also very distinctive. Who designed these album art pieces for you?

S: 同意。我也更喜欢这些清晰的标志。1995年那会儿，我就是用打字机打出来的，然后把它放大处理了一下，哈哈。至于美术设计方面：这是Bato的作品与我们委托其他人（比如曾为"Passengers"设计过视觉图案的Raf the Might）所创作的酷炫设计的一个结合体……

Agreed. I like these clear logo’s better too. In 1995 I simply typed it on a typewriter, and boosted it hahahh Artwise: it is a mix of Bato’s and some guys who we asked to make some cool looking stuff like Raf the Might who made the art for Passengers…

V: 政治、厌恶、战争——这些是你们音乐的主题。为什么选择这些主题？你们想通过这些主题表达什么？

Politics, Disgust, War – this is the theme of your band's music. Why did you choose this theme? What do you want to express through this theme?

S: 这得问Rosco，因为相关内容是他写的。在歌词方面，我乐于探讨各种严肃议题，以此反对各种愚蠢行径；我们通常不喜欢那种既滑稽又愚蠢的歌词。

We would have to ask Rosco as he writes about that. Lyric wise I am happy with all kind of serious subjects against any kind of stupidity. We generally do not like funny and stupid lyrics.

V: 你们曾与多家唱片公司合作发行专辑。你们是如何联系并达成合作的？这也不是你们第一次与 Selfmadegod Records 合作了吧。如果我没记错的话，你们2004年的合辑"48 Reasons to Leave This Planet"就是由这家厂牌发行的。今年你们再次合作，重新发行了经典专辑"Scenes of the Complete Annihilation of This Planet"。对于这次合作，你们有什么样的期待？

You've collaborated with many labels on albums. How did you contact and collaborate with these labels? This isn't your first time working with Selfmadegod Records. If I remember correctly, your 2004 compilation album, "48 Reasons to Leave This Planet," was released on this label. This year, you're collaborating again to re-release your classic album, "Scenes of the Complete Annihilation of This Planet." What are your expectations for this collaboration?

S: 没错，我想那张专辑是SMG在2004年发行的，当时我们乐队已经在2002年解散了。不过，我早在几年前就和Karol保持着联系；2000 年时，他邀请我们去波兰演出，期间他也随队同行。当时我并没有抱什么特别的期望——毕竟过了这么多年，谁还需要一张老MMM乐队的 CD呢？但Karol确信还是有一定市场的，所以我们就决定：那就做吧。

Correct, I think in 2004 SMG released that one, after we disbanded in 2002. Although I was in contact with Karol years before that and in 2000 he invited us for some Poland shows, in which he joined us on the road. No special expectations; I was wondering who needs an old MMM CD after all these years, but Karol ensured there is a small market for that, so we said; Go for it.

V: 你们的乐队曾在2002年解散。是什么原因导致了那次解散？又是什么让你们在2015年重组？

Your band disbanded in 2002. What caused the disbandment? And why did you reunite in 2015?

S: 当时遇到了一些问题，出于朋友情谊，我们选择了直接解散，而不是把某位成员踢出乐队。解散后，我们组建了另一支名为“Blood I Bleed”的乐队，后来也开始演奏“MMM”时期的歌曲。于是我们想，何不干脆来一场“My Minds Mine”的专场演出呢？这次由 Ragnar 担任鼓手。一些演出主办方听到了风声，于是在 2015 年，我们收到了一些音乐节和演出的邀请。

At the time there were some issues and as we were friend we disbanded instead of throwing out someone. After we quit, we started another band called Blood I Bleed and after a while we started playing MMM songs as well. So we said why not play a My Minds Mine set. This tome with Ragnar on drums. Some promotors got to hear the rumours and in 2015 we got offers for a couple of festivals and shows.

V: 首先，恭喜你们在2025年发行新专辑！你们的作品是我近年来听过的最棒的Old-School Grindcore音乐。“疯狂”——这是我能用来形容它的唯一词汇。疯狂的鼓点、极速的吉他、连绵不断的复古Riffs，还有那歇斯底里的唱腔，让人不禁联想到90年代的许多经典曲目。你们如何看待自己的作品？与旧作相比，这张新专辑有哪些变化？

First of all, congratulations on the release of your new album in 2025! Your work is the best old-school grindcore I've heard in recent years. Crazy, crazy—that's the only word I can use to describe it. Insane drumbeats, fast guitar, continuous retro riffs. The hysterical vocals remind me of many 90s tracks. What are your thoughts on your work? How has the new album changed compared to the old one?

S: 这算不上是一张完整的专辑，而是一张EP。没错，音乐风格非常疯狂。其实录制工作早就完成了，但考虑到我们组建MMM至今已有30年，我们想推出一些特别酷的作品，于是就有了这张5英寸EP的构想。风格上没什么大变动，依然是那种带有老派气息、极速且狂暴的Grindcore音乐。

Well it is not a full album, but an EP. Yes it is crazy stuff. It was recorded earlier but as it was 30 years ago since we started MMM, we said let’s put out something cool. Hence we camu up with the 5”EP idea. No big changes. Just relentless fast grindcore stuff with an old school vibe.

V: 作为一支资深乐队，你们参加过许多音乐节。哪些音乐节给你们留下了深刻印象？能否描述一下当时的现场氛围？2026年你们还计划参加哪些音乐节？

As a veteran band, you've participated in many music festivals. Which festivals left a deep impression on you, and could you describe the atmosphere at those events? What other music festivals are you planning to participate in in 2026?

S: 我有着美好回忆的音乐节包括Obscene Extreme，我们分别在2015年和2025年在那里演出过。像“Grind the Nazi Scum”和“Grind here, right now”这类Grindcore音乐节，氛围都非常轻松惬意。1999 年在荷兰北部举办的Wald Rock也是一个非常棒的音乐节。目前没有参加大型音乐节的计划，但就在我写下这段话时（2026年9月），我们正筹备10月份的亚洲巡演。我们将前往新加坡、马来西亚和日本。这将是我们第二次去日本演出，上一次去还是在2001年。

The festivals I have very fond memories of are Obscene Extreme, where we played in 2015 and 2025. Grindcore fests like Grind the Nazi Scum and Grind here, right now are really chill fests. Wald rock in 1999 was a really cool festival in the north of The Netherlands as well. No big festival plans, but as I write (Sept 2026) we are preparing for an Asia tour in October. We will visit Singapore, Malaysia and Japan. This will be the seconds time we will go to Japan as we were there in 2001 as well.

V: 除了重发旧作，你们是否有计划在2026年发行一张全新专辑？能否透露一些相关信息？

Besides re-releasing your old albums, do you have any plans to release a new album in 2026? Can you share some information with us?

S: 今年夏天，我们录制了几首歌，准备与Kandarivas和Tools of the Trade联合发行一张Split。原本计划在巡演前发行，但这已无法实现，发行将推迟到之后进行。

This summer we recorded a couple of songs for a three-way split with Kandarivas and Tools of the Trade. The idea was to release it before the tour but that will not happen. It will be released later.

V: 作为一名资深乐迷，我一直关注并支持着你们的乐队。我期待尽快听到你们的新作，也希望通过这次采访，能让更多中国乐迷关注并支持你们。采访即将结束，你们有什么话想对中国乐迷说吗？

As a veteran band, I am a loyal fan of yours. I have always followed and supported your band. I hope to hear your new works soon. I also hope that through this interview, more Chinese fans will pay attention to and support your band. The interview is about to end. Is there anything you would like to say to your Chinese fans?

S: 我也希望如此，那肯定很棒；每当有人在看过我们的现场演出或听过我们的音乐后，跑来告诉我们他们感到惊喜，那感觉总是特别好。非常感谢你付出的时间和精力。继续加油！
