今天采访到的是来自德国的Technical/Brutal Death Metal乐队Cytotoxin，组建于2010年的Cytotoxin乐队以Technical/Brutal Death Metal为主，乐队以切尔诺贝利核灾难为主题，所以乐队也把自己的风格定义为"切尔诺贝利死亡金属"，2011年乐队自主发行了第一张正式专辑“Plutonium Heaven”，这张专辑融合了残暴死亡金属与技术性演奏的精髓，同时保留了Slam风格的厚重感。他们既受到了欧洲传统的影响，也吸收了美国风格的元素。我偶尔会想到Abysmal Torment，短暂地联想到Devourment。当爆裂节奏达到巅峰时，我的脑海中浮现出Brodequin的影子，而技术性的演奏则让我想起Incinerate和Prostitute Disfigurement。但无论与哪些乐队存在相似之处，我确信Cytotoxin也受到Old School Death Metal乐队相当多的影响，因为部分吉他riff确实带有佛罗里达风格。节奏变化极为丰富，一秒钟可能在疯狂轰炸，下一秒又会突然放慢节奏，转为短暂的半旋律性慢速段落，随后再次加速并骤然转变为粗犷的Slam节奏。鼓点编排堪称惊艳，技术性恰到好处，而突如其来的技术性吉他独奏更是让我肾上腺素飙升。但他们没有过度使用技术，而是将技术性控制在合理范围内，以免过于直白地冲击听觉。人声方面，嘶吼、低吼、尖叫等各种元素应有尽有。制作方面堪称完美，让所有乐器都得以充分展现。这无疑是今年最佳发行之一。令人惊叹且震撼！这张专辑发行之后乐队收到了来自美国的Unique Leader Records厂牌的合同，让这支惊艳的乐队得到了更多曝光和关注，在Unique Leader Records发行的三张专辑都收到非常高的评价，2024 - 2025年乐队发行两首新的单曲，也预示着新专辑的发行，2025年乐队在法国厂牌Blood Blast Distribution发行了他们的最新专辑“Biographyte”，在新专辑发行之际杂志与乐队取得联系进行了一次专访！

The band I interviewed today is Cytotoxin, a German band specializing in Technical/Medical Death Metal. Founded in 2010, Cytotoxin focuses on the Chernobyl nuclear disaster and defines their style as "Chernobyl Death Metal". In 2011, the band released their first official album, "Plutonium Heaven," which combines the essence of brutal death metal and technical performance while retaining the heaviness of the Slam style. They were influenced by both European traditions and American style elements. I occasionally think of Abyssal Torment and briefly associate it with Devonment. When the explosive rhythm reached its peak, Brodequin's shadow came to my mind, and the technical performance reminded me of Incinerate and Prostitute Disfigure. But regardless of which bands it shares similarities with, I am confident that Cytotoxin has also been heavily influenced by the Old School Death Metal band, as some guitar riffs do have a Florida style. The rhythm changes are extremely rich, one second may be a crazy bombardment, the next second may suddenly slow down the rhythm, turning into a brief semi melodic slow section, and then accelerate again and suddenly transform into a rough Slam rhythm. The drumming arrangement is truly stunning, with just the right amount of technical skill, and the sudden technical guitar solo made my adrenaline soar. But they did not overuse technology, but kept the technicality within a reasonable range to avoid overly blunt impacts on hearing. In terms of vocals, there are various elements such as roaring, low growling, screaming, etc. available. The production is impeccable, allowing all instruments to be fully displayed. This is undoubtedly one of the best releases of the year. Amazing and shocking! After the release of this album, the band received a contract from Unique Leader Records in the United States, which brought more exposure and attention to this amazing band. The three albums released by Unique Leader Records received very high praise. In 2024-2025, the band released two new singles, which also foreshadowed the release of the new album. In 2025, the band released their latest album "Biographyte" on the French label Blood Blast Distribution. At the time of the release of the new album, the magazine contacted the band for an exclusive interview!

Hello Mr. Fonzo nice to meet you and thank you very much for participating in this interview, I think this is the first time that your band has been interviewed by a Chinese magazine, first of all say hello to all the Chinese fans, Cytotoxin 2010, a band with a long history of veteran bands, how did you first form this band?

F: 感谢你给我这次机会，也感谢我们所有的中国支持者！Cytotoxin于2010年在德国开姆尼茨成立。1986年切尔诺贝利核灾难的悲剧极大地鼓舞了我们的乐队成员和乐队。由于我们大多数人都有科学背景或热情，我们被技术流程和精密制造的架构以及辐射或核辐射的主题所吸引。此外，我们大多数人都是在事件发生后不久出生的，在附近地区，我们受到了父母或祖父母告诉我们的故事的影响。这最终导致了乐队的主题和由此产生的流派。

Thanks for this opportunity and Nǐ hǎo to all our Chinese supporters! Cytotoxinwas formed in 2010 in Chemnitz, Germany. Our band members and thus the band were heavily inspired by the tragic Chernobyl nuclear disaster of 1986. Since most of us have a background or passion for science, we were attracted to technical processes and precision-made architectures as well as themes of radiation or nuclear fallout. Also, most of us were born shortly after the incident, in the close area and we were kind of affected by the stories that our parents or grand-parents told us. This led ultimately to the band’s theme and the resulting genre.

V: 你的乐队在2014-2023年更换了两名新成员，鼓手Maximilian Panzer和吉他手Jason，为什么第一代成员退出了乐队，新成员是如何加入乐队的？你对新成员满意吗？

Your band has replaced two new members in 2014 - 2023, Maximilian Panzer on drums and Jason on guitar, why did the first generation members quit the band and how did the new members join the band? Are you happy with the new members?

F: 由于我们都在空闲时间做这个乐队，前成员决定设定不同的优先事项，例如工作或家庭。这是完全合理的，因为乐队本身在写歌、巡演或所有我们自己完成的运输过程中都消耗了大量时间！当然，我们对或多或少的新乐队成员感到满意！

Since we all do this band in our free time, former members decided to set different priorities, for instance work or family. And this is totally reasonable since the band itself consumes a lot of time when it comes to writing songs, touring or all the shipping processes that we all do by ourselves! And of course, we are happy with our more or less new band members!

V: 你们乐队的每个成员都是一位经验丰富的Death Metal音乐家，你的演奏技巧非常好，你能告诉我们你的写作经验吗？我相信你的经历会激励更多的年轻音乐家！

Each member of your band is an experienced musician in writing death metal and your playing skills are very good, what can you tell us about your writing experience? I'm sure your experience will inspire more young musicians!

F: 两位吉他手都写音乐，主要是Grimo在Fonzo的支持下写歌词。对于第一张唱片，Fonzo写了所有的歌曲。从Gammageddon开始，Jason加入了一直与Fonzo密切合作的歌曲创作。为了保持创意，我们试着听不同的流派，而不仅仅是金属。这有助于跳出思维定势并融入其他一些影响或吉他技巧。

Both guitarists write the music and mainly Grimo with support of Fonzo write the lyrics. For the first records, Fonzo wrote all the songs. Starting from Gammageddon, Jason joined the songwriting which always was in close collaboration with Fonzo. To stay creative, we try to listen to different genres, not just metal. This helps to think out of the box and to incorporate some other influences or guitar techniques.

The theme of your band's music is about nuclear contamination, why did you choose such a musical theme and what do you want to express through such a musical theme? You also wrote the lyrics section, who wrote these lyrics and what was his inspiration? You also define yourselves as Chernobyl death metal, why do you define a genre for yourselves?

As mentioned in the first answer, our families were kind of affected by the Chernobyl disaster and it was always present for us. We wanted to have a theme of our own but also realized that we can write music that sounds alarming, distressing or unsettling. The whole theme also plays with the fear of radiation which is something that can be well combined with death metal. Grimo started to write lyrics, he is also the one who was born in 1986 and read many diaries and documents about the whole period of time. It made sense to us to find our own label or genre for this kind of music!

V: 你的每一张专辑在录制效果方面都很出色，你在哪个工作室录制了这些专辑？哪位制作人制作了你的专辑？你今年刚发行了一张新专辑，新专辑的录制过程怎么样？

Each of your albums has been outstanding in terms of recording results, what studio did you record the albums in? Which producer produced your albums? You just released a new album this year, how is the recording process going for the new album?

F: 谢谢！我们与传奇人物Kohle在Kohlekeller Studio独家制作了过去的专辑！对于我们最新的唱片“Biographyte”，我们刚刚在Kohlekeller录制了鼓，所有以下过程，如所有声音的混音、母带制作和工程设计，都是由我们的朋友Mendel Audio的Mendel bij de Leij完成的。对于那张专辑，我们只是想尝试一些新的东西，比如在我们的排练室录制人声，以便有更多的时间来录制特别刺耳的人声。

Thank you! We did the past albums exclusively at Kohlekeller Studio with Kohle – the legend! For our newest record, Biographyte, we just recorded drums at Kohlekeller and all the following processes, such as mixing, mastering and engineering of all sounds, was done by our friend Mendel bij de Leij at Mendel Audio. For that album, we just wanted to try something new, like recording vocals in our rehearsing room to have more time for extra gnarly vocals.

Your band's logo is very simple, but this form of design is my personal favorite because I can easily remember your name, who designed this logo for you? Your album artwork is also about nuclear contamination, which is closely related to the theme of your music, who designed this album artwork for you?

F: 再次感谢！我记不清是谁设计了这个Logo，但我们显然想用基里利亚字母来创造一些非凡的东西，再创造一些突出的东西。之前的专辑艺术品是由Jan Yrlund完成的，但最新的是由我们的朋友German Latorres完成的，他也设计了我们的衬衫。

Again, many thanks! I can’t fairly remember who designed the logo, but we clearly wanted to have something remarkable with Kyrillian letters and again something that would stand out. The previous album artworks were done by Jan Yrlund, but the newest one was done by our friend German Latorres who also designs our shirts.

V: 你的乐队在所有发行中都与Unique Leader Records合作，你是如何联系该唱片公司进行合作的？你对Unique Leader Records的工作满意吗？

Your band has been working with Unique Leader Records for all of your releases, how did you get in touch with the label to collaborate? Are you happy with your work with Unique Leader Records?

F: 早在2012年“Radiophobia”就被记录下来了。我们正在寻找一个唱片公司，多亏了互联网社区，Unique Leader Records偶然发现了我们的乐队并幸运地与我们签约了另外两张唱片。我们很高兴他们对过去专辑（Radiophobia、Gammageddon、Nuklearth）的支持以及对我们的信任。我们的新专辑是独立发行的，哈哈！

It was back in 2012 when Radiophobia was recorded. We were searching for a label and thanks to the internet community, Unique Leader Records came across our band and luckily signed us for 2 more records. We are happy with their support for the past albums (Radiophobia, Gammageddon, Nuklearth) and for putting their trust in us. Our new album was released independently, tho!

First of all, congratulations to your band for releasing their latest album "Biographyte" this year, featuring beautiful and catchy melodies. Incredible style, setting high standards from the beginning; The vibrato pickup melody entering the sweeping section is a bombshell! The structure and paragraphs of the song sound purposeful, with unwavering determination and direction. Especially the drummer's talent is fully displayed here, his performance is flawless, and the sound of the snare drum is just right. Its volume is just right, giving a strong impact in the mix, but not overwhelming the audience. The intricate interweaving and guitar harmony complement each other, and the singing further enhances this effect, highlighting the intensity of the music and making it more impactful. The seamless combination of two guitars demonstrates their absolute control over the instrument. The rhythm decay in the middle section is definitely full of attitude, with the addition of complex melodic lines, forming a contrast with uncompromising cruelty. What is your opinion on your own work? Is there any change between the new album and the old album?

F: 谢谢！我们很高兴“Biographyte”的结局。我们真的尝试了很多，有了新的方法，有意识地让事情变得不同。想想声乐的多样性，合成器和合唱团的结合或者更全面、更有条理的歌曲创作。与孟德尔和德语合作对我们来说也是全新的！

Xièxiè! We are pretty happy how Biographyte turned out. We really tried to experiment a lot, to have new approaches and to make things consciously different. Think of the vocal variety, the incorporation of synths and choirs or a more well-rounded and structured songwriting. Also working with Mendel and German was new to us!

V: 作为一支经典的技术乐队，你参加了许多音乐节。哪些音乐节给你留下了深刻的印象？你能介绍一下当时的现场气氛吗？2025年，哪些新的音乐节将邀请您参加？如果未来中国音乐节的组织者邀请你参加中国巡演，你愿意为中国歌迷带来精彩的表演吗？

As a classic technical band, you have participated in many music festivals. Which music festivals have left a deep impression on you? Can you introduce the live atmosphere at that time? What new music festivals will invite you to participate in 2025? If the organizers of future Chinese music festivals invite you to participate in a tour of China, would you be willing to give a wonderful performance to Chinese fans?

F: 在过去的几年里，我们举办了许多给人留下深刻印象的节日，所以很难特别提及一些节日。我们重视Summer Breeze, Brutal Assault, Obscene Extreme, Party.San等大型节日。San或Full Force很多，因为它非常适合曝光。但也有一些较小的或当地的节日，我们喜欢玩，因为它们更亲密，我们更接近人群，这意味着更多的能量交换！我不确定我们今年是否会举办一些新的节日，但我们当然非常期待有一天能来中国！这将是一种荣幸！

In the past years, we played many festivals that left deep impressions, so it’s very hard to mention some festivals in particular. We value big festivals such as Summer Breeze, Brutal Assault, Obscene Extreme, Party.San or Full Force a lot because it’s great for exposure. But there are also smaller or local festivals that we love to play because they are way more intimate and we are closer to the crowd which means more energy exchange! Not sure if we play some many new festivals this year but we would be super down to come to China one day, of course! It would be a pleasure!

V: 除了在2025年发行新专辑外，你的乐队还有什么新的工作要进行？你能和大家分享一些信息吗？

In addition to releasing a new album in 2025, what other new tasks does your band have to undertake? Can you share some information with everyone?

F: 在我们发行新专辑后，我们显然想专注于巡演和演出！我们刚刚在四月进行了专辑发行巡演，并在年底有了更多的计划。我们也期待着今年的《夏日微风》！我们也想回到美国。

After we released our new album, we clearly want to focus on touring and playing shows! We just did our album release tour in April and have some more plans for the end of the year. We are looking forward to playing Summer Breeze this year as well! We would also like to come back to the US.
