天生杀人狂 - 芬兰Melodic Death/Groove Metal乐队Inborn Tendency专访

今天采访到的是来自芬兰的Melodic Death/Groove Metal乐队Inborn Tendency，乐队的三名成员解散了之前的乐队之后，依旧还想继续创作自己喜欢的音乐，所以在不久之后Inborn Tendency乐队成立，2021年乐队发行了第一张EP专辑“Godkiller”，由美国The Charon Collective厂牌发行，优美的旋律，凶狠毒辣的Riff，疯狂，连续的鼓点精准无误，再加上一些Groove Metal的元素让这支乐队更加充满了活力，歌手凶狠的演唱也是整张专辑中最大的亮点，随后乐队发行了多首单曲，让这支乐队迅速成为了芬兰目前炙手可热的乐队，今年乐队也发行了最新单曲“Fist Evangelist”，在新单曲发行之际杂志与乐队鼓手Hugo取得联系进行了一次专访！

Today's interview is with Inborn Tendency, a Melodic Death/Groove Metal band from Finland, the three members of the band still wanted to continue creating their favorite music after disbanding their previous band, so shortly after Inborn Tendency was formed and in 2021 the band released their first EP album “Godkiller”, released on The Charon Collective label in the US, features beautiful melodies, vicious riffs, frantic, continuous drumming with precision, and some Groove Metal elements to make the band even more energetic, and the singer's vicious singing is also one of the main features of the album. The singer's ferocious vocals are the highlight of the album, and the band has released several singles that have quickly made the band one of the hottest bands in Finland, and this year the band has released their newest single, “Fist Evangelist”, and on the occasion of the release of the new single, the magazine contacted the band's drummer Hugo for an interview! Hello brother, it's nice to meet you and thank you very much for participating in this interview. I think this is the first time your band has accepted an interview from a Chinese magazine. First of all, I would like to say hello to all Chinese fans and friends. In what year was the Inborn Tendency band founded and how did you form this band? What is the name Inborn Tendency

H: 你好，感谢你给我这次采访的机会！Inborn Tendency乐队成立于2017年，在我们之前的项目结束后，我们需要坐下来决定是否要继续做音乐。我们花了一个周末的时间，在我们歌手的住处聚会、我们就这样成立了！Inborn Tendency 这个名字来源于“肉体之罪”的概念，因为我们每个人都有这种 "Inborn Tendency"。

Hello, and thank you for the opportunity to interview! Inborn Tendency was formed in 2017 when the three of us needed to sit down and decide whether we were going to continue making music after our previous project ended. We spent one weekend gathering at our singer's place, and here we are! The name Inborn Tendency comes from the idea of 'carnal sin,' as all of us have this 'Inborn Tendency' to sin.

The three members of your band are all first generation members. If you are very familiar with each other and know what kind of songs they want to create, could you introduce your creative process? Your band doesn't have bass, how do you solve the bass problem?

Our creative process usually starts with our singer, Ville, having some kind of demo of the song. Then, we work on the song together, and when we think it's ready to take the next step, we introduce it to our producer, Juho Koskinen. After Juho's changes, we record the song in our own home studios as far as we can, and Juho does all the final mixing and mastering. Our guitarist, Mika, plays the bass on the record, and for the live gigs, we have two session musicians who play the songs live—one for guitar and one for bass

Your band's works have excellent recording effects. Which studio did you record your album in? Which producer made the album for you?

As mentioned before, we're doing all the recording ourselves in our home studios. Some of the processing is done by Juho Koskinen, our producer, who is responsible for our tremendous sound!

Your band's logo design is very beautiful. Who designed this logo for you? Your album art design is very unique. Who designed these artworks for you? Do these artworks have any meaning?

Thank you very much! Our original logo was created by the amazing artist Timon Kokott. The new logo was designed in collaboration with the band and some incredibly talented artists from All4Band Designs. Our lead designer for it was Henri Tervapuro, a Finnish comic book artist. Each of our cover artworks has a meaningful connection to the song it represents. Do you have a favorite cover art of ours?

Christianity, Struggles, these are your music themes. Why did you choose this music theme? What do you want to express through this music theme? You also created the lyrics section, who created these lyrics？

First and foremost, we want to make it clear that we don’t want to confine ourselves to a strict mold when it comes to lyrics. These themes are complex and always have some kind of impact on people—whether positive or negative. Our connection to these subjects is deeply personal, rooted in our own lives and the experiences of those close to us. Everyone faces struggles, and through our music, we aim to bring those struggles into the light.

Your band's 2021 EP album was released on The Charon Collective label in the United States. Currently, you are collaborating with the local label Inverse Records, which is an outstanding label in your country. How did you establish contact and collaborate with these labels? Are you satisfied with the work of these brands?

Firstly, we want to thank both of these amazing labels for helping us grow! We wouldn't be here without you! The Charon Collective contacted us in 2021 when we released our first singles. After some talks with Eric Shirey, the owner of the label, we decided to collaborate with him. He has an amazing background in heavy music and is a really good guy, which really helps—haha. Inverse Records came on board in 2023 before we released our first single, 'Heritage,' from the upcoming album. We contacted them, and we reached an agreement on how to take our thing to the next level

First of all, congratulations on the upcoming release of your first official album. Your work has left a deep impression on me, with beautiful melodies, complex arrangements, and some Groove elements that make your work more modern. Your work speed is not very fast, but it is very heavy. What is your opinion on your own work?

Thank you! You're absolutely right about our work pace. The main thing that slows us down is the distance between the three of us—we're based in three different cities in Finland: Vöyri, Mikkeli, and Kuopio. Most of our collaboration happens through weekly online meetings, and we typically meet in person about six times a year—unless we’re on tour. While it might go against the current zeitgeist, we genuinely value quality over quantity. And we’re pretty confident that this approach will pay off in the end.

V: 你们乐队参加过哪些音乐节或现场表演？哪些现场给你留下了深刻印象？能否介绍一下当时的气氛和现象？2025年，你们是否还打算参加音乐节？

What music festivals or live performances have your band participated in? What live performances have left a deep impression on you? Can you introduce the atmosphere and phenomena at that time? Are you still planning to participate in music festivals in 2025?

H: 我们还没有参加过大型音乐节的演出。我们所有的演出都很棒、见到新朋友总是很棒的！我们的粉丝非常棒。也许最难忘的经历是我们去瑞典参加彩虹摇滚音乐节的演出。那是瑞典中部一个非常小的音乐节。这些长途演出最棒的地方在于与乐队和我们出色的临时乐手在一起。我们的日程表上没有安排任何音乐节但如果有机会，我们随时准备参加。

We have not performed at large-scale music festivals yet. All of our gigs have been awesome, and it's always great to see new people! Our fans are amazing. Perhaps the most memorable experience was our trip to Sweden to perform at the Rainbow Rock Festival, which was a very small festival in central Sweden. The best thing about these long-distance gigs is spending time with the band and our awesome session musicians. We don't have any scheduled festivals on our calendar, but we're always ready to participate if the opportunity comes.

V: 你们的乐队即将在今年发行第一张正式专辑。除了发行新专辑你们还有什么新的工作要进行吗？能和大家分享一些信息吗？

Your band is about to release their first official album this year. What preparations will you make around this new album? Can you share some information with everyone?

H: 我们的首张专辑将会非常疯狂。我们已经计划好了很多事情，但我们暂时不告诉大家。至少你们可以期待一些新的酷炫商品和现场演出。

Our debut is going to be crazy. We have a lot of things planned out, but we're keeping those to ourselves for now. You can expect some new cool merch and live gigs, at least.

You are a very excellent band, and I will always support and follow your band. I also hope to attract more Chinese fans to follow and support your band through this interview. Do you have anything to say to Chinese fans in the end?
