Today's interview is with the Thrash Metal band Toxic Soul from Ecuador. Founded in 2010, Toxic Soul is a long-standing band originally formed by Doko. A few months later, guitarist Freddy Chac ó n and bassist/singer Christopher Jaramillo joined the band, completing their first lineup and releasing their first single in 2010. In 2015, they released their first EP album "Democrasia" and toured Ecuador. With neat and powerful Riff, fast and precise drum beats, and highly infectious vocals, the band quickly became one of the hottest Thrash Metal bands in Ecuador After the album, they did not choose to continue releasing new works, but entered a "hibernation period". It was not until this year that the band announced their comeback and collaborated with Italian label Punishment 18 Records to release their first official album "Visiones Putrefactas". At the time of the release of the new album, the magazine contacted Toxic Soul through Punishment 18 Records for an exclusive interview!

Hello brother, nice to meet you and thank you very much for participating in this interview. I think this is the first time your band has accepted an interview from a Chinese magazine. First of all, I would like to say hello to all Chinese fans and friends. Toxic Soul was founded in 2010 and is a long-standing band. Who proposed the formation of this band in the first place?

T: 大家好！首先，我们想说，我们很荣幸能参加这次采访。事实上，这是我们第一次有机会与一家中国杂志交谈，所以向所有中国的打破常规者和狂热分子致以问候！Toxic Soul的第一个阵容由JoséEstupiñan（Doko）用吉他和Víctor Mejía用鼓创作。几个月后，Freddy Chacón加入成为吉他手，Christopher Jaramillo成为歌手和贝斯手。这第一批人开始在我们的家乡瓜亚基尔写歌和现场表演，并参观厄瓜多尔的其他城市。

Hello everyone! First, we want to say that it’s an honor for us to be part of this interview. Indeed, this is the first time we’ve had the opportunity to talk with a Chinese magazine, so greetings to all the Chinese thrashers and headbangers out there! The first lineup of Toxic Soul was created by José Estupiñan (Doko) on guitar and Víctor Mejía on drums. A few months later, Freddy Chacón joined as guitarist and Christopher Jaramillo as vocalist and bassist. This first formation began composing songs and playing live shows in our hometown, Guayaquil, as well as visiting other cities across Ecuador.

V: 你的乐队目前只有Doko和Víctor作为第一代成员，而所有其他成员都已被替换。为什么第一代成员离开了乐队？新成员是怎么加入乐队的？你对新成员的工作满意吗？

Your band currently only has Doko and Víctor as the first generation members, while all other members have been replaced. Why did the first generation members leave the band? How did the new members join the band? Are you satisfied with the new member's job?

Currently, the only founding member is Víctor Mejía. Doko left the band due to personal reasons, and Christopher Jaramillo moved to another country. Despite these hard blows, the band continued rehearsing with just two members — Víctor and Freddy. A few months later, our current vocalist and bassist Jared Piñeiros joined. His adaptation was very quick since his musical influences match Toxic Soul perfectly, and he brought the aggression and crossover edge that we needed in our vocals. A year after Doko’s departure, our current guitarist David Valverde joined. His arrival has been very important for us — he has shown great commitment and passion for the band, and musically he fits perfectly with Toxic Soul’s style, contributing new riffs and ideas for the album and future songs.

V: 你通常是如何创作歌曲的？你能介绍一下你的创作过程吗？

How do you usually create songs? Can you introduce your creative process?

T: 每首歌的创作过程总是遵循相同的模式：开头、主音和排练室，哈哈。因为我们不是只靠音乐生活，所以每首歌都是在家里诞生的——每个吉他手都写下自己的想法，然后我们通过WhatsApp的音频分享这些想法，以听取彼此的意见。之后，我们在排练室见面，与其他成员一起完成这个想法。至于歌词，我们通常在最后才写。

The creative process for each song always follows the same pattern: the head, the house, and the rehearsal room, haha. Since we don’t live exclusively from music, every song is born at home — each guitarist writes ideas and then we share them through WhatsApp audio to hear each other’s opinions. After that, we meet in the rehearsal room to complete the idea with the rest of the members. As for the lyrics, we usually work on them at the very end.

V: 你的作品在录音方面相当出色。你的专辑是在哪个录音室录制的？你为哪位制作人制作了这张专辑？

Your works are quite outstanding in terms of recording. Which studio did you record your album in? Which producer did you produce the album for you?

T: 为了录制这张专辑，我们决定在瓜亚基尔以外的地方录制。在制作人Sebastián Peña（Sage）的指导下，我们前往图姆巴科与Zavage Lab合作。

For the recording of the album, we decided to do it outside of Guayaquil. We traveled to Tumbaco to work with Zavage Lab, under the direction of our producer Sebastián Peña (Sage).

V: 你们乐队的Logo设计很简单，但这种设计形式是我个人非常喜欢的。谁为你设计了这个Logo？是什么促使你的相册艺术作品使用真实照片？

The logo design of your band is very simple, but this design form is something I personally really like. Who designed this logo for you? What inspired your album artwork to use real photos?

T: 这个Logo是很久以前由我们的前吉他手Doko设计的，专辑的艺术品是由一位名叫Julian Mortus的哥伦比亚艺术家创作的。关于使用真实照片，我们想展示这些年来我们的经历、音乐会和轶事。

The logo was designed long ago by our former guitarist Doko, and the album artwork was created by a Colombian artist named Julian Mortus. Regarding the use of real photographs, we wanted to show a glimpse of our experiences, concerts, and anecdotes throughout all these years.

V: 你的音乐主题是什么？你为什么选择这个音乐主题，你想通过这个音乐主题表达什么？你还创建了歌词部分。谁创作了这些歌词，是什么启发了他？

What is the theme of your music about? Why did you choose this music theme, and what do you want to express through this music theme? You also created the lyrics section. Who created these lyrics and what inspired them?

T: 歌词是Toxic Soul成员的集体创作。他们的灵感来自对社会和政治现实、日常不公正、人类历史和人性最黑暗一面的原始观察，经常探索后启示录和科幻主题。他们还引导个人的愤怒、沮丧和幻灭感，与观众建立发自内心的联系。

The lyrics are a collective creation of the members of Toxic Soul. They are inspired by the raw observation of social and political reality, daily injustices, human history, and the darkest sides of human nature — often exploring post-apocalyptic and sci-fi themes. They also channel personal feelings of rage, frustration, and disillusionment to create a visceral connection with the audience.

V: 2015年发行了一张两首歌的EP专辑后，就再也没有任何新的作品发行。为什么你多年来没有任何新的作品发行？

After releasing a two-song EP album in 2015, there have been no new releases. What is the reason why you haven't had any new updates for many years?

T: 正如我们之前提到的，我们决定在城外呆一周录制我们的专辑，我们相信这是最好的决定。这是一项艰巨的工作——每天录制两次，一次又一次地重复——直到我们在制作人Sage的指导下达到了最高的质量。我们对最终的作品感到非常满意，不仅作为作品的作者，而且作为打破者，因为我们实现了我们想要的声音：侵略性的即兴重复段、纯粹的风格、雷鸣般的鼓声和原始的撕裂声。

As we mentioned earlier, we decided to spend a week outside the city to record our album, and we’re convinced it was the best decision. It was a hard job — two recording sessions per day, repetition after repetition — until we reached the highest quality possible, all under the guidance of our producer Sage. We were really satisfied with the final product, not only as the authors of the work but also as thrashers, because we achieved the sound we were looking for: aggressive riffs, pure style, thunderous drums, and a raw, tearing voice.

V: 你的作品给我留下了深刻的印象。你对自己的作品有什么看法？

Your works have left a deep impression on me. What is your opinion on your own works?

T: 我们觉得每一首歌曲都反映了我们多年来坚持不懈所建立的身份。每一段即兴重复段、每一个鼓型、每一首抒情诗都承载着我们作为一个乐队的奋斗和进化的一部分。我们为自己所取得的成就感到自豪，并为创造出真正代表我们的东西感到自豪：原始、诚实和具有侵略性的Thrash Metal。

We feel that each track reflects the identity we’ve built through years of persistence. Every riff, every drum pattern, every lyric carries a part of our struggle and evolution as a band. We’re proud of how far we’ve come and of having created something that truly represents who we are: raw, honest, and aggressive thrash metal.

V: Punishment 18 Records刚刚与你们乐队签订了一份合同。这是一个非常好的厂牌。你是如何联系到这个厂牌进行合作的？

Punishment 18 Records has just signed a contract with your band. This is a very excellent label. How did you get in touch with this label to collaborate?

T: 在完成录制过程后，下一步是找到一个对我们的作品感兴趣的唱片公司。Toxic Soul一直希望我们的音乐能够跨越国界，我们很荣幸能引起Punishment 18 Records的注意。在向Corrado发送了一封包含我们完整提案的电子邮件后，我们收到了他的积极回复，我们毫不犹豫地接受了报价。这对我们所有人来说都是一个非常高兴的时刻，因为Punishment 18 Records是一个在全球范围内备受尊敬的唱片公司。

After finishing the recording process, the next step was to find a label interested in our work. Toxic Soul has always wanted our music to cross borders, and we were honored to catch the attention of Punishment 18 Records. After sending an email to Corrado with our full proposal, we received a positive reply from him, and we didn’t hesitate for a second to accept the offer. That was a moment of great joy for all of us, since Punishment 18 Records is a highly respected label worldwide.

V: 你的乐队参加过一些小型演出，哪些给你留下了深刻的印象？你能介绍一下当时的气氛吗？

Your band has participated in some small performances, which ones left a deep impression on you? Can you introduce the atmosphere at that time?

T: 多年来，我们参加过各种规模的演出，但最令人难忘的是我们与Violator、Tungsteno、Havok、Torture Squad、Grim Reaper和Hyena等伟大的Thrash和Metal乐队同台演出。在每一场演出中，气氛都是纯粹的狂欢——充满了激情、砰砰声和啤酒！每一个时刻对我们来说都是难忘的。

Over the years, we’ve played at shows of all sizes, but the most memorable ones are those where we shared the stage with great thrash and metal bands such as Violator, Tungsteno, Havok, Torture Squad, Grim Reaper, and Hyena. In every one of those shows, the atmosphere was pure thrash — full mosh, slam, and beer! Each of those moments was unforgettable for us.

V: 据我所知，你将在2025年发行你的第一张官方专辑。那么，你的乐队在发行新专辑后有什么新的工作要做呢？我可以与大家分享一些信息吗？

As far as I know, you are about to release your first official album in 2025. So, what new work does your band have to do after releasing the new album? Can I share some information with everyone?

T: 专辑发行后，我们计划在国内巡演以推广它并在该地区的其他城市和国家进行推广，希望很快能安排一次国际巡演。我们目前还在为第二张专辑创作新歌，我们计划用英语录制。

After the album release, our plans are to tour within our country to promote it, as well as promote it in other cities and countries in the region — and hopefully schedule an international tour soon. We’re also currently working on new songs for a second album, which we plan to record in English.

V: 你们是一支优秀的乐队，我会一直关注和支持你们的乐队。我也希望听到这次采访能吸引更多的中国歌迷关注和支持你们的乐队。采访即将结束，你有什么想对中国球迷说的吗？

You are an excellent band, and I will always pay attention to and support your band. I also hope to hear this interview to attract more Chinese fans to pay attention to and support your band. The interview is coming to an end. Do you have anything you want to say to Chinese fans?
