Today's interview is with Admire the Grim, a Melodic Death Metal band from Finland. Formed in 2021 by guitarist Jani and first bassist, the band was soon joined by Sirja and Tommi and released three singles in 2022, with bassist Kalle quitting the band soon after, and new bassist Petri joining the band and releasing their EP “Rogue Five” in 2023. Bassist Petri joined the band in 2023 and released their EP “Rogue Five”, which combines familiar 90's sounds and melodies with modern songwriting and production, the band's energetic and entertaining performances and exciting music were well received by all fans. After the release of the EP and the signing of the young, energetic band to the famous Finnish label Inverse Records, Admire the Grim's first official album “Resist” was released on Inverse Records in 2025. On the occasion of the release of the album, Inverse Records contacted the band for an interview!

Hello Ms Katri nice to meet you and thank you for participating in this interview, I think this is the first time your band has been interviewed by a Chinese magazine, first of all say hello to your fans in China, Admire the Grim was formed in 2021 and is a very young band, who initiated the formation of this band? Admire the Grim is a very young band formed in 2021, who came up with the idea of forming the band?

K: 你好是的，这是我们第一次接受中国杂志的采访。感谢您邀请我们接受采访！这支乐队成立于2021年初，由Jani（我们的吉他手兼主要歌曲作者）和我们的前贝斯手组建。在短短几个月内，我们就准备好了我们的阵容，因为我们中的大多数人都已经互相认识了。

Hello! Yes, this is our first interview by a chinese magazine. Thanks for asking us to do this! This band was started in early 2021 by Jani (our guitarist and main song writer) and our former bassist. In just a few months we had our line up ready, since most of us already knew each other.

V: 你们基本上保持了乐队的原始阵容，只是在2023年加入了一位新的贝斯手Petri，他是如何加入乐队的？你们对这位新成员满意吗？

You guys have basically kept the original line-up of the band, you've just added a new bassist, Petri, for 2023, how did he come to be in the band? Are you happy with the new member?

Yes, Petri is a cool guy and a skillful bassist. He also has a lot of knowledge about technical stuff that has been a great help for us. He joined us right before our debut EP Rogue Five was released and has played with us since the very first gig.

V: 能谈谈你们乐队的创作过程吗？你们明年发行的新专辑的创作过程是怎样的？

Can you tell us a little bit about your band's creative process? How does the creative process work for the new album you're releasing next year?

K: 通常情况下，雅尼会提出歌曲创意，并负责每首歌的器乐部分。凯特丽负责写声乐和歌词，最后由每个人自己编曲。在录制之前，我们会在排练场排练歌曲，如果觉得有什么地方需要修改，就会进行调整和修改。

Usually Jani comes up with song ideas and works on every song’s instrumental parts. Katri writes the vocal lines and lyrics and everyone arranges their own parts in the end. We rehearse the songs at our rehearsal place before recording them and make adjustments and changes if we feel like something should be changed.

V: 你们乐队的录音非常出色，我喜欢你们的录音方式，你们是在哪个录音棚录制专辑的？是制作人为你们制作的专辑吗？新专辑的录制进展顺利吗？

Your band's recordings are brilliant, I love the way you record, what studio did you record the album in? Did the producer make the album for you? Is the recording of the new album going well?

K: 谢谢！我们在芬兰的Crane录音室和Deep Noise录音室录制了这张专辑。Deep Noise Studios的Saku Moilanen还负责专辑的混音和母带制作。我们自己制作了这张专辑并在实际录制前进行了前期制作，因此在去录音室之前，一切都准备得相当充分。专辑已经全部完成，我们很期待明年1月31日的发行！

Thanks! We recorded the album in Crane studio and Deep Noise Studios here in Finland. Saku Moilanen from Deep Noise Studios also mixed and mastered the album. We produced the album ourselves and did pre-production before the actual album recordings, so everything was quite well prepared before going to the studio. The album is all done and we are excited to have it released on January 31st next year!

What is the theme of your band's music about? Why did you choose this musical theme and what do you want to express through this musical theme? Do you have a lyrics section, who writes these lyrics and what inspires him?

K: 我们的主唱Katri创作歌词。这张专辑的主题是抵抗和改变。她认为这两个主题是紧密相连的，例如一个人心态的改变可以彻底改变他们的思维方式和看待世界的方式。她的想法是，人们应该能够捍卫自己的权利，创造自己的未来。这张专辑从不同的角度，用不同的故事展开了这一主题。

Katri, our vocalist, writes the lyrics. The themes on this particular album are resistance and change. She feels like these themes are closely connected to each other, for example a change in one’s mindset can revolutionalize their way of thinking and seeing the world. The idea is that people should be able to stand up for their rights and create their own future. The album opens this theme up from different angles, with different stories.

V: 你们即将在Inverse Records厂牌发行第一张正式专辑，这是贵国一个非常好的唱片公司。你是如何与这家唱片公司取得联系并合作的？你们对他们的工作满意吗？

You are about to release your first official album on Inverse Records, which is a very good label in your country, how did you get in touch with the label to work together? How did you get in touch with the label to work with them? Are you satisfied with their work?

K: 我们很高兴再次与Inverse Records合作。几年前当我们准备发行首张EP“Rogue Five”时，他们联系了我们。一切都很顺利，他们也想发行即将发行的专辑。

We are happy to work with Inverse Records once again. They contacted us couple of years ago when we were about to release our debut EP Rogue Five. Everything went well and they wanted to release the upcoming album as well.

First of all, congratulations on the release of your first official album ‘Resist’ next year, I've heard the singles you've been releasing, they're fierce, melodic, unforgettable and aggressive, with some great solos, your vocals are very powerful, fierce and low, what do you think of your work?

K: 我们非常高兴，认为这张专辑已经做到了最好！最后的混音完善了整体音效，Saku在录制等一切方面做得很好。我们认为总有一些地方需要改进，但就这张专辑而言，我们认为这是一个随着时间一点一点发展乐队声音的问题。

We are very happy and think the album turned out as good as it could possibly be! The final mixes perfected the over-all sound and Saku did great work balancing everything out. We think there’s always things to improve, but in this case we think it’s a matter of developing the band’s sound over time, little by little.

V: 你在2024年参加了哪些音乐节，哪些音乐节给你留下了深刻印象，你能描述一下当时的氛围，2025你们乐队有什么新的演出要进行吗？当然首先你必须全力推广新专辑，你能提供一些相关信息吗？

What festivals did you attend in 2024, what festivals impressed you and can you describe the atmosphere, and what new work do you have coming up in 2025? Of course first of all you must be promoting the new album with all your might, can you give some information about that?

K: 对我们来说，2025年将是不错的一年，因为我们将在一月份发行新专辑，之后我们还将在芬兰举办一些演出。我们还没有预订夏季的音乐节演出，但我们会看看是否会有。去年我们参加了在爱沙尼亚举办的室内音乐节Bloodstained Metal Fest。这是我们第一次出国演出，对我们来说是一次很酷的经历！

2025 is going to be a good year for us considering that we are releasing our new album already in January and after that we have some gigs booked in Finland. We haven’t booked any festival gigs for the summer, but we’ll see if that happens. Last year we got to play at an indoor festival, Bloodstained Metal Fest, in Estonia. It was our first gig abroad and a cool experience for us!
