Today's interview was with Progressive Rock band PulsaR from Italy, which was formed in 2014. PulsaR is a very experienced old band in Italy, and their works blend psychedelic atmosphere, symphonic rock, and electronic experimental elements. Their music inspiration comes from Pink Floyd to Porcupine Tree, deeply influenced by the Progressive Rock scene in Italy in the 1970s, and also influenced by modern bands such as Opeth, Mastodon, and Tool. So far, they have released four albums, each marked by the following features: seven tracks, covers in two main tones, and album titles consisting of three words. This unique band quickly stood out in Italy, receiving widespread attention and praise, and was also invited to perform at major music festivals. This year, the band just released their latest album "Days Months Years" and contacted a magazine for an exclusive interview!

V: 你好兄弟，很高兴见到你并非常感谢你参与这次采访。我认为这是贵乐队首次接受中国杂志的采访。首先向所有中国粉丝和朋友问好。PulsaR乐队成立于2014年，是一支历史悠久的乐队。你最初是如何组建这支乐队的？PulsaR这个名字有什么含义？

Hello brother, it's nice to meet you and thank you very much for participating in this interview. I think this is the first time your band has been interviewed by a Chinese magazine. First of all, let me say hello to all Chinese fans and friends. PulsaR band was founded in 2014 and is a long-standing band. How did you form this band in the first place? What does the name PulsaR mean?

A: 你好，首先感谢你们在页面上为我们留出的空间。是的，这是我们15年音乐生涯中第一次接受中国杂志的采访。 “PulsaR”这个名字是为了体现我们希望融入音乐创作中的星际概念。就像脉冲星在太空中标记时间一样，太空摇滚音乐常常依赖于催眠和循环的节奏模式。因此，我们认为这是最适合我们的名字。遗憾的是，当时我们没有考虑到已经有数百支乐队采用了相同的名称，但我们仍然认为它真正代表了我们今天的身份。

Hi, first of all thank you for the space you're dedicating to us on your pages. Yes, this is the first time in 15 years of making music that we've been interviewed by a Chinese magazine. The name PulsaR was chosen to represent the stellar concept we wanted to infuse into our compositions. Just like a pulsar marks time in space, space rock music often relies on hypnotic and cyclical rhythmic patterns. So we thought it was the perfect name for us. Unfortunately, at the time we didn’t consider that hundreds of other bands had already adopted the same name, but we still feel it truly represents who we are today.

V: 你们乐队现在有多少名成员？你们都是第一代成员吗？你们是否曾经更换过成员？第一代成员为什么离开乐队？新成员是如何加入乐队的？你们对新成员的工作满意吗？

How many members do you have in your band now? Are you all first generation members? Have you ever changed members? Why did the first generation members leave the band? How do new members join the band? Are you satisfied with the new member's job?

A: PulsaR的核心理念源于我和Iorad（鼓手）共同构思的创意。在经历了多年在不同乐队中的磨练后，我们决定共同开启这个项目。随后The Urge（贝斯手）加入了我们，这一核心三人组自此便一直保持不变。在第一阶段，从首张专辑"Fine Tuned Universe"的发布直至第二张"The Arecibo Message"的开端，我们迎来了Solomos担任键盘与单簧管演奏。他最终因音乐理念分歧离开乐队。他被Rach（键盘手）取代，后者成为固定成员直至第三张专辑"Origins Of Life"。由于时间和后勤原因，他也不得不离开以专注于其他项目。如今我们是三人组合。

The essence of PulsaR was born from an idea shared by me (Away – Guitar/Vocals) and Iorad

(Drums). After years of experience in various bands, we decided to create a project together.

Later on, The Urge (Bass) joined us, and this core trio has remained unchanged throughout the years. In the first phase, from the release of our debut Fine Tuned Universe up to the threshold of our second chapter The Arecibo Message, we were joined by Solomos on keyboards and clarinet. He eventually left the band due to musical diƯ erences. He was replaced by Rach (Keyboards), who became a permanent member until Origins Of Life, our third chapter. He too had to step away to focus on other projects due to time constraints and

logistical reasons. Today, we are a trio.

V: 你们乐队中的每位成员都是创作这种风格的资深音乐人。能否介绍一下你们的创作过程？我相信你们的创作经验能为更多年轻音乐人带来启发。新专辑的创作过程进展顺利吗？

Each member of your band is an experienced musician in creating this style. Can you introduce your creative process? I believe your creative experience will bring inspiration to more young musicians. Is the process of composing the new album going smoothly?

A: 我们在歌曲创作上属于老派乐队——每个人都会提出新想法，然后在排练过程中共同发展这些想法。我（Away）无疑是最高产的一位，哈哈哈，但如果没有Iorad和The Urge对素材进行评估并将其适应我们的风格，我们就无法创作出这些多年来逐渐成形的曲目。从一开始我们就为自己制定了一些规则并在每张专辑中始终如一地遵循这些规则，因此每当我们开始制作新专辑时，我们总是对我们要做的事情有清晰的愿景。我们的每张专辑都有七首歌曲，每张专辑的标题由三个单词组成，每张专辑的封面都以两种主要颜色为特色。我们相信这些规则有助于为项目赋予独特的身份并使我们与音乐界其他作品区分开来。

We’re an old-school band when it comes to songwriting—each of us brings new ideas, and we develop them together during rehearsal sessions. I (Away) am definitely the most prolific one, hahahah, but without Iorad and The Urge evaluating the material and adapting it to our style, we wouldn’t be able to create the compositions that have come to life over the years. From the very beginning, we set some rules for ourselves that we’ve consistently followed with every album, so we always have a clear vision of what we’re doing whenever we start working on a new record. Each of our albums has seven tracks, the title of each album consists of three words, and every cover features two main colors. We believe these rules help give the project a distinct identity and set us apart from the rest of the music scene.

V: 你们每张专辑在录音效果方面都非常成熟。你们每张专辑的录音效果都非常令人印象深刻。你们是在哪家录音室录制这张专辑的？是哪位制作人为你们制作了这张专辑？新专辑的录音过程进展顺利吗？

Each of your albums is very mature in terms of recording eƯ ects. The recording eƯ ects of each of your albums are very impressive. Which studio did you record the album in? Which producer made the album for you? Is the recording process of the new album progressing smoothly?

A: 感谢大家！我们一直独立制作作品，我深信没有人能比我们更深刻地理解专辑背后的概念与音色。我们拥有一间小型录音室，负责每张专辑的录音和制作。这张最新专辑是现场录制的，我们所有人都在同一个房间里。之后我们审视了素材，保留了鼓的部分，纠正了贝斯和吉他的错误，当然还添加了额外的音轨。我们对这张最新专辑"Days Months Years"的声音特别自豪！

Thank you! We've always produced our work independently, and I truly believe that no one can understand the concept and sound behind our albums better than we do. We have a small recording studio where we handle the recording and production of each album ourselves. This latest album was recorded live, with all of us together in the room. Afterward, we reviewed the material, kept the drum parts, corrected any bass and guitar mistakes, and of course added additional tracks. We’re particularly proud of the sound of this latest release, Days Months Years!

V: 你们乐队的Logo设计非常漂亮。是谁为你们设计了这个Logo？你们的专辑封面属于抽象设计风格。是谁为你们设计了这些专辑封面？其灵感来源于哪里？

Your band's logo design is very beautiful. Who designed this logo for you? Your album artworks belong to abstract design. Who designed these album artworks for you? What does its inspiration come from?

A: 我们的专辑封面由我们自行设计。我们具备一些基础的平面设计技能，这使我们能够创作出令人满意的作品。如我之前所提，每张封面都以两种主色调为特色，这使得它们在其他艺术家的封面中脱颖而出。如果你从远处观察专辑封面——尤其是在金属音乐领域——它们往往看起来非常相似，因为存在一种趋同的倾向。如今这种现象更为普遍，因为许多乐队不再委托实际艺术家创作封面艺术，而是依赖人工智能来生成视觉效果。

Our album covers are designed by us. We have some basic graphic design skills that allow us to create decent work. As I mentioned, each cover is characterized by two main colors, which helps them stand out from other artists’ covers. If you look at album covers from a distance—especially in the metal scene—they often look very similar to one another, because there’s a tendency to conform. This is even more true now that many bands no longer commission artwork from actual artists, but instead rely on AI to generate their visuals.

V: 你们的专辑是通过哪些唱片公司发行的？你们是如何与这些唱片公司建立联系并展开合作的？你们对这些唱片公司的表现是否满意？

Which labels were your albums released on and how did you establish contact and collaborate with these labels? Are you satisfied with the work of these brands?

A: 为了发行我们的作品，我们成立了自己的独立唱片公司。遗憾的是对于像我们这样的小型乐队来说，要找到一家愿意投入时间和资金到一个无法带来利润的项目上的唱片公司，是非常困难的。其他提供合同的唱片公司通常会以对乐队不利的条款进行合作，艺术家的收入被压缩到最低水平——更不用说他们可以随意处理你的音乐。这完全不符合我们的理念。

To release our work, we set up our own independent label. Unfortunately, for small bands like ours, it’s very diƯ icult to find a label willing to invest time and money in a project that doesn’t generate the kind of numbers that lead to profit. The other labels that do oƯ er contracts often do so under terms that are disadvantageous for the band, where the artist’s earnings are reduced to a minimum—and not to mention, they can do whatever they want with your music. That’s just not for us.

First of all, congratulations to your band for releasing their latest album this year. Your album combines psychedelic elements, symphonic rock, and electronic experimentation, leaving a deep impression on all fans. The beautiful melody gives people a psychedelic feeling, and the singer's singing feeling is clear. The guitarist's technical skills are skilled, and the drummer's performance is very stable. The precise strikes further reflect the characteristics of your work. What is your opinion on your own work? What are the changes between the new album and the old album?

A: 非常感谢，我们真的很感激你花时间聆听我们的专辑。与之前的“Origins Of Life”相比，“Days Months Years”创作起来更加直接且轻松。我们已经有了一个清晰的概念，因为我们首先以短篇小说或叙述的形式写下了故事，然后围绕它创作音乐——几乎就像配乐一样。与此同时我们作为音乐家也成长了，这帮助我们更好地通过乐器表达自己。值得一提的是，决定一起在录音室现场录制专辑，为我们的创作带来了完全不同的动态。我相信我们会在未来的发行中再次采用这种方法。

Thank you so much, we really appreciate that you took the time to listen to our album. Compared to the previous Origins Of Life, Days Months Years was much more immediate and easier to create. We already had a clear concept in mind, because first we wrote the story in the form of a short book or narrative, and then built the music around it—almost like a soundtrack. In the meantime, we’ve also grown as musicians, which helped us express ourselves better through our instruments. It’s also worth noting that the decision to record the album together, live in the studio, brought a completely new dynamic to our compositions. I believe we’ll use this approach again for future releases

V: 作为一支老牌乐队，你们参与过许多音乐节。哪些音乐节给你们留下了深刻的印象？能否介绍一下当时的现场氛围？你们计划在2025年参与哪些音乐节？你们是否也发行过在参与的音乐节上录制的现场录音专辑？

As an old band, you have participated in many music festivals. Which music festivals have left a deep impression on you? Can you introduce the live atmosphere at that time? Which music festivals are you planning to participate in in in 2025? Have you also released a live recording album, which was recorded at the music festival you participated in?

A: 假设我们经历过的最深刻的体验是在撒丁岛的努拉吉考古遗址进行表演。你应该知道努拉吉文明是地中海撒丁岛上于公元前1800年至公元前238年间发展起来的古代文明。它以最具代表性的建筑——努拉吉塔命名，这些大型石塔采用无灰浆建造技术，是撒丁岛独有的建筑形式。对我们而言，这是与根源深度连接的时刻。在那次活动中，我们专门为该活动创作了一首曲目，旨在捕捉我们对这片土地的归属感。这首曲目后来收录于专辑“Origins Of Life”中。我们发布的现场专辑是另一个重要里程碑，因为它是在撒丁岛一家历史悠久的音乐场地进行的最后一场演出中录制的。我们是该场地因琐事关闭前最后一支在此演出的乐队。

Let’s say the most profound experience we’ve had was performing at a Nuragic archaeological site here in Sardinia. You should know that the Nuragic civilization was an ancient culture that developed on the island of Sardinia, in the Mediterranean Sea, around 1800 BCE to 238 BCE. It is named after its most iconic structures: the Nuraghi, which are large stone towers built without mortar, unique to Sardinia. For us, it was a moment of deep connection with our roots. On that occasion, we composed a piece specifically for the event, aiming to capture the essence of our sense of belonging to this land. That track later became part of the album Origins Of Life. The live album we released was another important milestone, as it was recorded during our final performance at a historic music venue in Sardinia. We were the last band to play there before it was closed down for trivial reasons.

V: 你们乐队在发行新专辑后还有那些新的工作要进行？能否与大家分享一些信息？

What new tasks does your band need to undertake after the release of the new album? Can you share some information with everyone?

A: 目前我们专注于推广这张专辑。我们最近举办了一场演出，完整演绎了这张新专辑，反响非常热烈。秋季期间我们在撒丁岛将有新的演出日期。

For now, we’re focused on promoting the album. We recently played a show where we performed the entire new record, and the feedback was very positive. During the autumn, there will be new dates across Sardinia.
