来到地狱 - 意大利Death / Thrash Metal乐队Stefano Zani's Project专访

今天采访到的是一支来自意大利的老牌Death / Thrash Metal乐队Stefano Zani's Project，2011年乐队的创始人Stefano录制一张专辑之后开始了这个项目，在不久之后乐队的其他成员也加入乐队了并且在2013年录制第一张EP专辑“Hanging from the Chain of Oblivion”，这张专辑深受Death / Thrash Metal风格的影响，有力，凶残的Riff，疯狂的鼓点，低沉有力的演唱，乐队通过这张专辑迅速成为了意大利一支很受欢迎的乐队，这张EP专辑录制完成之后乐队的吉他手Willi退出了乐队，2017年乐队发行了第一张正式专辑“The Last Days”发行，2019年第二正式专辑“No Salvation... Today's interview was with Stefano Zani's Project, a veteran Death/Thrash Metal band from Italy. The founder of the band, Stefano, started this project after recording an album in 2011. Shortly after, other members of the band also joined the band and recorded their first EP album "Hanging from the Chain of Oblivion" in 2013. This album was deeply influenced by the Death/Thrash Metal style, with powerful and ferocious riffs, crazy drum beats, and low, powerful vocals. The band quickly became a popular band in Italy through this album. After the completion of the EP recording, the guitarist Willi of the band left the band. In 2017, the band released... The first official album "The Last Days" was released, and the second official album "No Salvation... No Redemption... Only the End" was released in 2019, After the release of this album, a heartbreaking thing happened. In 2019, the band's guitarist Giuseppe Aufiero passed away due to a sudden heart attack, causing the band to lose a great musician. However, the band did not lose motivation. Currently, the band continues to create works with a trio of drummer Alessandro Tinti, guitarist Stefano Zani, and singer Uruk Hai. In 2024, the band released their latest EP album "Descent Beyond Hell". At the time of the release of the new album, the magazine contacted the band's Stefano and Tato members for an exclusive interview!

Hello brother nice to meet you and thank you very much for participating in this interview, I think it's the first time that your band has been interviewed by a Chinese magazine, first of all say hello to all the Chinese fans, Stefano Zani's Project was formed in 2012 and is a band with a long history, who initiated the formation of this band in the first place? Do you still remember the scene at that time?

thank you so much for hosting us in your home, it is truly an honor for us to bring music to your immense nation, we hope to be up to it and can arouse curiosity in you. my project is commonly called S.Z.P and the logo recalls as you see those three letters, I started this project after 11 years of records and live with another Italian thrash metal band from 2001 to 2012. In 2013 my first EP called hanging from the chains of Oblivion was released in which musicians known at Italian and international level participate, it has never been physically printed but there will be a surprise soon. In 2017 the last days was released, in 2019 No Salvation ... No Redemption ... Only The End, these two full length are currently available in digital format on bancamp.

Your band has kept the original lineup, which is hard for an old band, you only changed singers in 2013, why did the first generation of singers quit the band? How did the new singer join the band and are you happy with what the new members are doing?

That's not exactly the case, I have to correct you, S.Z.P was born with the aim of not locking anyone into the concept of a traditional band, it is a project open to any collaboration in order to always create something new while always remaining tied to the extreme metal roots. At the moment there are only two of us, in this new EP entitled descent beyond hell I played the guitar, programmed the drums, took care of the mix and mastering whileTato took care of the bass and vocals

Each member of your band is an experienced musician in creating extreme metal. How do you create your works? Can you introduce your creative experience?

The experience of the project members is essential to complete interesting products while my creativity starts from negative experiences, from horror readings, stories of murders, isolation, mind control, psychosis, hallucinations, from stories of abuse, the more negative events there are the more my creativity increases

Every album of your band has made significant progress in recording effects, which is closely related to the development of the times. With the changes of the times, the recording work has also become more perfect. Which studio did you record the album in? Which producer made the album for you?

With this latest work you can really notice the change in approach we had, I studied meticulously together with Tato the approach to have in each song, the riffs and rhythms are more cadenced and suffocating than the other works, it's an extreme fluid madness! We recorded in separate private studios and then concluded the mix and mastering in my escape room studio

V: Evil, Sickness是你音乐的主题，你为什么选择它，你想通过它表达什么？你也写过歌词，是谁写的，是什么激励了他？

Evil, Sickness is the theme of your music, why did you choose it and what do you want to express through it? You have also written lyrics, who wrote those words and what inspired him?

T: 歌词直接而自然地从音乐中诞生，从Stefano给我音乐基础时我所感受到的感觉和情绪中诞生以及从我们每个人内心存在的内在反思中诞生，在某些情况下是休眠的，而在其他情况下则不是。

The lyrics were born directly and naturally from the music, from the sensations and moods towards which I was transported when Stefano sent me the musical bases, and from inner reflections that are present, in some cases dormant and in others not, inside each of us.

V: 你的Logo很漂亮，谁为你设计了这个Logo，你的专辑艺术品是独一无二的，谁为你设计了这个专辑艺术品？

Your logo is beautiful, who designed this logo for you and your album artwork is unique, who designed this album artwork for you?

S: 该Logo于2013年通过与一位设计师的合作而诞生，该设计师还创作了“Hanging from the Chain of Oblivion”的第一张EP封面，而来自The Triad Rec的Andrea则致力于绘制“Descent Beyond Hell”的血统图形。

The logo was born in 2013 through the collaboration with a designer who also created the cover of the first ep hanging from the chains of oblivion while Andrea from the triad rec worked on the graphics of descent beyond hell.

You've released albums with some great labels, currently your band is working with The Triad Rec, which is a great label in your country, how did you guys get in touch with this label to work together? How did you get in touch with the label to work with them?

I've known Andrea from the triad rec for a long time. Years ago he ran the label maculata anima rec and he always put me in touch with excellent musicians. I advise everyone to support Andrea and his hard work of promotion and graphics

V: 你们发行专辑的速度很慢，很久没有发行新的东西了，是什么让你们发行的材料如此缓慢？

You guys are very slow in releasing albums, it's been a long time before you release something new, what is it about releasing material that makes you so slow?

S: 如果是这样，我的主要工作和收入来源会有所不同，你怎么看？玩笑归玩笑，显然所有迄今为止在S.Z.P合作过的人在音乐方面都有自己的时代和主要需求，但当一切都结合在一起时，我们会发挥出最好的效果。

If it were and my main job and source of income it would be different what do you think?Jokes aside obviously all those who have collaborated up to now at S.Z.P have their times and primary needs with respect to music but when everything fits together we bring out the best.

First of all, congratulations on the release of your latest EP “Descent Beyond Hell” in 2024, a classic, excellent piece of work, vintage style of playing, it seems that you are heavily influenced by a lot of old-school bands, the wonderful Thrash Metal Riffs, coupled with the ferocity of the death metal. The metal brutality makes your work very recognizable, what do you think of your work? How does the new album compare to the old one?

S: "Descent Beyond Hell"已经有一年多的工作了，这只是4首新歌加上我以前乐队的封面，我不想给这张专辑一个流派的身份，因为还有很多细微差别需要掌握，我希望评论家们在这种情况下暴露自己。

Descent Beyond Hell has had over a year of work behind it, it's only 4 new songs plus a cover of my former band, I don't like to give a genre identity to the album also because there are many nuances to grasp, I would like the critics to expose themselves in this case.

V: 作为一支经验丰富的乐队，你参加过很多节日，哪些节日给你留下了深刻的印象，你能描述一下当时的气氛吗？2025年你还受邀准备参加了哪些其他节日？

As a veteran band, you've played a lot of festivals, what festivals have impressed you and can you describe the atmosphere and what other festivals you've been invited to in 2025?

If you mean in my past live the best festival intended as a big event I played at was the metalcamp in Slovenia where Slayer were the headliners and I had the opportunity to share the hotel where I was with anthrax and children of bodom to name a few, the support we gave to destruction in Brescia, sodom in Pavia,Vader, Decapitated and another hundreds of live shows with dozens of Italian underground bands.

We both come from several other projects that we have been carrying around for years, and with which we have had the opportunity to have several experiences, even live. I personally have great memories of underground festivals such as the Underworld metal Fest that took place near Rome, the Chaotica Fest in Sicily, the God Bless Metal and the Calabrian Metal Inferno in Calabria, the Petrogrind Fest in Russia, the Rock Hard Festival in Trezzo, as well as several concerts with bands that we knew each other over time and with which great friendships were born, and it is precisely this that keeps the good memory alive, the atmosphere of real brotherhood that could be felt between the groups, all there to have fun and listen to the other bands, with which in many cases we then organized other concerts or splits to consolidate the sincere bond that we still maintain tight today.

V: 2025你的乐队有什么新的工作计划吗，比如创作、录制一些新歌，你能向人们透露一些信息吗？

2025 Is there any new work your band is planning to do, like writing, recording some new songs, can you reveal some information to people?

S: 是的，有一个新的工作计划，我想说正在进行中，这将是一首完整的8首新歌，它将是“Descent Beyond Hell”和第一部作品的结合。

Yes, there is a new work planned, I would say in progress, it will be a full length of 8 new songs and it will be a cross between Descent Beyond Hell and the first works.

certainly, we are working on new material, Stefano is a riff grinder, and already from what he made me listen to I can say that it will be a worthy successor to Descent Beyond Hell
