后来,他在多个项目(Rotten Apples、Toxic Dogs、No Smoking、Manicomio Zero......)

Lorenzo Schiavo's Chain project was launched at the end of 2022 with the aim of disrupting established norms and dismantling the falsehoods that have become exhausting in today's world. He was born in Trieste, with Italian parents and an Ethiopian father. His introduction to music began with Bob Marley and reggae/ska music, which were an integral part of his family's cultural heritage. However, it wasn't until he was ten years old that he discovered punk music and realized that music could be a tool for change. From there, he began playing various instruments, but the drums became the starting point for his musical career as he matured. Later, he served as an instrumentalist in multiple projects (Rotten Apples, Toxic Dogs, No Smoking, Manicomio Zero...), then moved to Valencia, eager for new music to teach him new things. About a year and a half later, he returned to Italy and began creating a project that could guide his personal growth, but most importantly, bring him closer to his goals.

Hello Mr. Lorenzo Schiavo, it's a pleasure to meet you and thank you very much for participating in this interview. I think this is the first time your band has been interviewed by a Chinese magazine. First of all, let's say hello to all Chinese fans and friends. When was Chain band founded? How did you form this band?

Hi everyone, I'm Lorenzo, aka Chain. This project was born at the end of quarantine in 2020. Initially, it was called *Strays in Cage*, but due to band-related issues, we had to set the idea aside and revisit it later. During this hiatus, I kept developing some concepts, incorporating part of the *Strays* essence into what is now a solo project.

How many members do your band have now? Are they all members of the first generation? How did they all join the band?

L: 尽管我是一名独唱艺术家,但我会与原项目中的两位乐手一起进行现场表演:吉他手Massimo Lombardo(艺名“Mad Faxe”)和DJ Giuseppe Caccetta(艺名“Unligal B”)。

Though I’m a solo artist, I perform live with two other instrumentalists from the original project: guitarist Massimo Lombardo (aka "Mad Faxe") and DJ Giuseppe Caccetta (aka "Unligal B"). I met Massimo when we were 14—he’d only been playing for a few months but was already a prodigy. Giuseppe and I crossed paths in an artists’ commune; he invited me to an event during dinner, and from that day on, we collaborated on multiple musical ventures.

Can you introduce your creative process?

From the start, we aimed to fuse the aggression of metalcore and hardcore punk with industrial metal’s signature sound. But that alone didn’t satisfy my creative vision, so we infused it with a more urban style. As the project evolved, more influences seeped in, ultimately shaping a new cyberpunk prototype. The lyrics envision a future where cyberization industrializes both lives and minds—a rebellion against homogenization.

The logo design of your band is very simple, but this design form is my personal favorite because I can easily remember your names. Who designed this logo for you? Your album artwork is also very beautifully designed. Who designed this artwork for you?

My biggest challenge was finding a graphic designer who understood my needs. I wanted a simple yet striking logo that conveyed my roots and message. After months of searching, my childhood friend Simone Trausi mentioned his hobby of using design software for D&D sessions. When I saw his casual work, I knew he was the one. Simone has a gift for translating words and their meanings into visuals, and he applied that philosophy to every page of the book.

What is the theme of your music about, why did you choose this music theme, and what do you want to hear this music theme express? Who created the lyrics and what inspired them?

L: New Alcatraz,

New Alcatraz is, as I mentioned, a highly experimental project. Its dystopian vision—a world where machines and technology dominate humanity rather than the opposite—is not so distant from reality. This concept makes the fusion of rock and metal with electronic genres an effective tool. Expressing anger becomes a necessity when fighting to prevent a future worse than the past. My lyrics channel this anger, but in a constructive and preservative way. Watching the world crumble fuels my desire to write and scream.

Your band's album recording effect is excellent. Which studio did you record the album in? Which producer made the album for you? Is the recording process of the album going smoothly?

For the creation of the first album, I collaborated with two studios in particular: **BxF Moving Sound** in Savona and **Raw Rats Records** in Pomezia (Rome). The definitive partnership was with the latter—Cristiano Iovino of Raw Rats composed all the beats and handled mixing and mastering, except for *Dark & Bass*, which was produced by BxF.

How did you get in touch with The Triad Rec to collaborate on your upcoming album? Are you satisfied with the job at this brand?

My connection with **Triad Rec** came through my vocal coach, Simone Luise, who already worked with them as the singer of **Straight to Pain**. Seeking feedback on my album, he suggested I present it to them. They were impressed enough to sign the project. We’ve been collaborating for a year now, and their support has given *New Alcatraz* the chance to roar across the world—a dream for someone like me, coming from a heavily industrialized reality.

First of all, congratulations to your band for the upcoming release of a new album. Your work combines Punk, Metalcore and other styles, with both Punk's debauchery and Metalcore's insured feeling. What is your opinion on your own work?

I’m proud of the work done with the team, but I can’t help looking ahead—this album is just the tip of the iceberg. Thanks to what I’ve learned, I can keep exploring the countless cages the world has imposed on us, finding ways to break them all open.

What bands have you mainly been influenced by? Can you list some of your favorite bands?

L: 我最大的音乐影响包括**Slipknot、Bloody Beetroots、The Prodigy**和**The Casualties**等乐队,而在歌词方面,我从**Ska-P、The Clash**和**Bob Marley**等艺术家那里汲取灵感。

My biggest musical influences include bands like **Slipknot, Bloody Beetroots, The Prodigy**, and **The Casualties**, while lyrically, I draw inspiration from **Ska-P, The Clash**, and **Bob Marley**. However, incorporating Japanese anime theme songs was the final key—their tempo shifts and layered compositions heavily inspired the song structures.

Although Chain is a very young band, I will always support and follow your band. I also hope that through this interview, more people will pay attention to and support your band. Do you have anything to say to your Chinese fans and friends in the end?

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for this opportunity. Reaching you through music is incredible—a dream come true. I hope to visit your fascinating country one day, immerse myself in your culture, and maybe even perform for you. Keep following and supporting the project because things are about to get even more interesting. Greetings from **Chain**, and as I always say:

**"Stay Strays!"**
